Author's note: In this chapter, I wanted to explain what is happening on Vulken Island. It's not as small as you think. Humans are aware that there is a castle (They are not forbidden to go near it) and that vampires live there, but what Seth does not know is that vampires do not have as much, if at all, humanity in them. Vampires respect too much Seth to even show their dark side openly, even if Lazarus do so on lots of occasion.

I get the idea that vampires don't actually have souls or lose it over the years of killing humans and making too many dents in their souls, hence why dementors can't sense them, but Seth does. The emotions that vampires can feel depends on their powers, like Lazarus and Nathaniel, for example, who know how to show some empathy towards others and that's why Lazarus was supposed to be the next king, since he shows more humanity than other vampires.

Going back to the island, several guardian vampires, if you will, take care of *patrolling* the streets of the village at all hours of the day and night. I estimate that the village has about 1000 inhabitants for about fifty vampires. In the world, Nathaniel and Elena know a maximum of 700-800 vampires, I say well, in the WORLD. (USA, Africa, Japan, Russia, France, Brittany, Mexico) If, for my part, I think that there are 1 million wizards, for 6 billion humans, well, the path will be difficult for Seth and the equality he desires. He will constantly be torn between the choices of his own humanity and his vulnerability vs what the vampires desire.

The laws that Nathaniel made were only to mislead the wizards because anyway, very few follow them...

The Purpose, Rewritten, Chapter 16 Covetousness

July 17, 1943

Seth saw a huge structure built into a gigantic cliff where clouds or fog hid parts of the structure. All kinds of birds and flying creatures came and went through the open spaces of this structure.

'Welcome to Uagadou, Seth. We are waiting for you.'

The voice seemed to come from heaven. It was sweet and inviting. At the bottom of the cliff, there was a gigantic lake with other creatures jumping in the air. Trees of all sizes and shapes lay nearby, with paths and colors that seemed to come out from everywhere. Even still there, various animals were running, jumping, all in harmony. The place was really beautiful.

Seth woke up, a smile on his face. Mijuu Me had sent him a vision of Uagadou in a dream, thus inviting him for the new year. He checked the time with a Tempus, indicating 4:32am. He got up and dressed quickly before going to the stables, not without first stopping to take vials of potion to regenerate blood. He had wanted to know how his island was doing for a long time, but Flamel had also sent him a letter the day before, telling him that the protection spells on the island would have to be renewed. He knew what rituals to perform, but they would require a lot of energy to produce, and he intended to use the population at the village of the inhabitants of this island to achieve this.

A servant who had been asleep on a chair woke with a start at his approach and prepared his usual horse, named Lightning, for him, and Seth galloped off towards the marina. By the time he arrived, the sun was beginning to rise. He could already see workers preparing the next boat for supplies.

Steven suddenly appeared in front of him, and the horse whinnied in surprise before calming down. No one escaped Steven's vigilance for the safety of the marina.

"Hm, my Prince. Why are you coming here?" Steven asked out of politeness, as he already knew that Seth was just checking that everything was in order.

"Steven." Seth replied simply.

"The supply continues to be done once a week. The human war affects some materials needed to repair our structures, for example, but at least everyone has enough to eat thanks to our fields.'' Steven said.

"War..." Seth muttered, before vaguely remembering reading in the papers what was going on in the muggle world. "What structures are you talking about?" Seth asked, looking away to where the village was.

"Some public buildings and houses. The ocean has been hitting the coast hard for the past few weeks, which is not usual." Steven said.

Seth wondered if the Flamel spells protecting the island were losing much power. There was a time when the people of the village knew that magic protected them from bad weather, but since he was born, the Flamels no longer went near the people. The village was fed by a source of magic that Flamel had put right in the middle of the village, and he had to go investigate.

"No, my prince. They don't realize who lives in the castle now.'' Steven said reading his thoughts. "Your father hasn't been there for several decades. We ensure that humans are chosen to serve you and only return to the village for rare visits from their families. Your presence might terrify them, especially if you perform magic in front of them."

''I have to go renew the source of magic in the village, Steven. Humans can't leave this island, can they?' asked Seth. "And why would they be terrified?"

"No, sir. Muggle-repelling spells still work as much on the island as they do the other way around and no other boat than ours or planes pass through here.'' Steven reassured. "For your second question, we… sometimes use threats, since they have what they have through magic, and it was Flamel who gave them that gift. Now...it will be you."

"Threats are necessary?" Seth asked, frowning.

Steven sniffled and ran his tongue over his teeth.

"Nin còon, humans are never happy with what they have. Most understand what it means to live here, but there will always be… deviants. That's what we're here for." Steven replied.

"Hn."

Seth tugged on his horse's reins to head for the village while Steven bowed before heading back to the marina.

It was still early, but villagers were already outside their homes performing various tasks. Streetlights still lit up the streets. Electricity was produced by a small coal-fired power plant and another part by water from a river that ran through the village to the ocean.

The vampires he passed all bowed briefly and asked him what he was doing here. He replied that he was going to the source of magic and that they were welcome to observe what he would do. Onlookers, seeing Seth and vampires following him, also began to walk behind him.

'Who is this?'

'Is he the king?'

'What is he doing here?'

Seth continued on his way to the statue of his father. The statue stood proudly with a sword in its right hand and touching the ground. It seemed almost animated, emanating an unparalleled energy. On the pommel of the sword shone a glowing green stone, but Seth could see that its energy was low and could shine even brighter. He was there exactly for that.

He dismounted from his horse, leaving his bag hanging on it, and approached the statue. Warning signs were all around, stating never to touch the statue for possible death.

"Don't touch it! People died…" Warned a human.

Seth turned to the man who had shouted.

"Your name?" Seth asked.

The man blinked and looked at the others, uncertain.

"Uh… Danyck." He replied.

"Well, Danyck. Thanks for letting me know.'' Seth said before clicking his tongue. "How about...giving me your blood after I'm done..." Seth pointed at the statue. "…giving my magic to the village? Hmm? Would you feel worthy enough of me to perform this task?'

Danyck gulped, still looking at the others to try to reassure himself. A vampire approached and grabbed his shirt to bring him closer to Seth.

"Ah, there's no need to be abrupt, Mr…" Seth began.

''Keith, your majesty.'' Said the vampire who released Danyck, who was not reassured.

"Keith." Seth repeated before sniffling and turning to the statue.

Several other villagers kept arriving to see why so many people had gathered around the statue. The guardian vampires stopped the villagers from getting too close as Seth walked around the signs and placed his hand on the hilt of the statue's sword.

The magic of the stone overwhelmed him and passed through all his skin pores. It was Flamel's magic that he recognized and through it, the magic showed him the whole village, all the magical connections, the runes on every house, building, tree...it was an extraordinary work.

He felt like he was bathing in a giant lake of colors and sensations that gave him the feeling of being able to create anything as he saw fit. He could see where the runes had been scratched and needed fixing and even see focal points where the magic needed a dose of energy. The runes reacted to his magic and were fully functional again.

He didn't know how long he had been there, watching all this village that had changed so much in the last two hundred years and it seemed that he could change everything to his liking if he wanted.

But it was a Flamel masterpiece, and he knew he was a powerful wizard…even more so now than before.

When he had finished his observations, he began to focus his magic on the points where it was necessary. There were anti-apparition spells, muggle-repelling charms, among other things, to protections against natural disasters, such as earthquakes. Seth was fascinated by whatever Flamel could think of in order to keep the island's population protected with whatever he could.

Waves of energies were flowing out of his body and empowering absolutely everything, everywhere. He noticed that he was putting his own shields, his magic, his essence, on top of Flamel's, giving him absolute control and the magic let him do as if that was exactly Nicholas' goal when Seth would have had the necessary strength to do it.

He opened his eyes, seeing the stone shine brightly under his fingers. As he expected, a wave of fatigue hit him like a rock. The heartbeats around him echoed in his head like hammers and an unparalleled hunger fell on him. He took his hand away and turned to Danyck and walked towards him, his eyes black as ink. Danyck took a step back, but Keith was there and Danyck turned his head, panicking for a split second before Seth grabbed him and sunk his teeth into his neck, ignoring the crowd around who were screaming in surprise or of terrors. Several vampires surrounded him, preventing others who wanted to approach.

Blood rushed rapidly down his throat and reinvigorated him as memories of the man raced through his head. Danyck was the same age as Seth, theoretically, and had always admired the stories his parents told him about the castle, and he had developed a strong fascination and interest in the castle. He had hoped to be chosen as a servant for several years, in vain. He knew how to talk to animals… Seth detected a latent energy, different from the others, in his blood.

Seth pulled away from him before Danyck's heart seriously started beating too slowly. Danyck sat down on the ground clutching his neck. Seth wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and reached into his pack on the horse, ignoring the worried mutterings of the humans, and pulled out a vial of blood replenishing potion. He went to give the vial to Danyck who was now on his feet, helped by other villagers.

"Take this, you'll feel better." Seth said.

Danyck nodded and took the vial with a trembling hand before drinking it.

"Why are you doing this?" asked a woman taking Danyck by the arm.

She looked at the other vampires nervously.

"Do what?" Seth asked before getting back on his horse.

The woman shook her head and looked down. Seth frowned and looked at the villagers. He saw the fear in their eyes.

"Aren't you happy living here?" Seth asked in a louder voice.

"Ugh, they're not grateful, sir." A vampire said.

Seth looked at the woman who had spoken to him.

''Speak! I asked you a question.'' demanded Seth.

"It's…it's them…you…the vampires. We… we don't need anything, but we are treated like vermin, and you act…"

"Like you belong to us?" Seth cut in.

"That's… that's it." The woman replied.

"Tsk." Seth said before advancing his horse closer to the villagers and he pointed at the statue. "Do you know what I just did?"

The villagers did not respond. They did not know. All these humans bore the name of Vulken. To differentiate between families, they sported their fathers' first names as middle names. Lazarus had told him over and over again that he should consider humans his servants and nothing else. The forces from beyond had given him life, magic, and a royal vampiric birth. All this should not be in vain.

He had to govern.

"You belong to me." Seth decided. "You have been mine since the day I was born. I have just placed the necessary magic in the heart of my father's statue, which allows you to be protected from the other humans of this earth. I protect you from the oceans, from war, from famine, from poverty, from disease… AND YOU DARE TO COMPLAIN?" Seth continued.

"And who will know how to protect us from you?" A man said further.

Seth drew his horse closer to the man and he backed away as he approached.

''Me? Because you'd rather go to war with weapons and have to futilely kill other humans just like you? Because you prefer to work so futilely for money to support your family when you already have everything here? Do you feel your children are in danger here? That other men could steal from you…'' Seth said before looking at the women around. "Rape you, beat you..." Seth grimaced. "You are humans, nothing more, nothing less."

Seth went further, seeing a man with a book in his hands.

"You." Seth said and the man in question looked down. "Do you know how to read?"

"Uh… yes, sir, s-sire." The man hesitated. '' And who taught you to read? To write? To count?" Seth asked.

''School… sire.'' stammered the man.

Seth smirked.

"So, you are educated here, on my island! Do you know History? Do you read the newspapers that Galea and Steven bring back every week from London?''

"Y-yes... sir."

Seth brought his horse closer to him.

"So...let me ask you a question." Seth said harshly. "Isn't everything you have here worth serving a higher entity? For a little of your blood? Of your loyalty? Of your devotion and protection?'' asked Seth.

The villagers nodded.

"I will inform Steven and Galea so that those who wish to leave the island can do so soon. Know that outside this island, you are alone, you will never be able to return, and you will lose your identity. I'll also make sure you forget we exist, so…'' Seth said before turning his horse back to where it originally came. "Be sure of your choice." Seth finished before putting his horse into a gallop.

He would come back for Danyck because he had piqued his curiosity.

OoOoO

Greengrass Manor

Seth listened to Lord Greengrass talk about his family, his work, and how fascinating it was that the vampires tried every year to gain more rights just like the goblins had. Seth rolled his tongue in his mouth, containing his anger, since it was clear that Monica's father was trying to provoke him.

"Why do you hate vampires so much, Lord Greengrass? I can sense your anger directed at me." Seth asked.

Emmanuel took a sip of his wine before answering.

"Did you know that the Greengrass are one of the Twenty-eight Sacred Families, Mr. Vulken?" he asked.

"Of course, I know." Seth said.

"Hmph. Our family is old, just like vampires, and we have a history with…your family. About five hundred years ago, a vampire fell in love with a girl, who then deserted him when she figured out what he was. Of course, this vampire had a special skill, for a creature like him, and he caused a curse to fall on the Greengrass women.'' Explained Emmanuel.

Seth looked for a moment at Monica, who gave an embarrassed smile.

"I imagine this concerns your daughter?" Seth asked.

Lord Greengrass placed his glass back on the table.

"What are you looking for in my daughter, Mr. Vulken? She cannot give birth. If she does, she'll die." Asked Emmanuel. "Her body is already weakened by this curse."

Seth raised his eyebrows. The fact that Monica could not give birth, or the fact that she could die from it, did not interest him. Even if he would have relations with her, he probably wouldn't be able to give her children either.

"Progeny is not in my interest, Mr. Greengrass. Besides, I don't think I'm able to... have children anyway." Seth said.

Monica looked at him, surprised.

"You see us surprised. Among wizarding families, an offspring is all that matters to us, especially in our world filled with these… muggles. Would you really have feelings for Monica, then?' asked Emmanuel.

Seth shook his head slowly.

''No. You have an item that is rightfully mine. The book written in Parseltongue.'' hissed Seth, not taking his eyes off the patriarch.

Monica shuddered when she heard the snakes' tongue. She was also disappointed with Seth's response, since he had used her in order to get the book she had told him about.

"So, it's true, then. You are a descendant of Slytherin. You want the book, don't you?' asked Emmanuel.

''Yes.''

"Hmph. If you want this book, you're going to have to do something for the women in my family. Because of your family, you owe it to yourself to find a way to remove this curse and this book will be yours.'' Emmanuel said.

"Show me the book first." Seth said.

''Obviously. ROMY!'' Emmanuel called and a house-elf appeared near him. "Bring me the black and silver book."

The elf disappeared for a moment. There was an awkward silence among the diners until the elf returned, giving the book to the Patriarch before disappearing again. Seth had time to read the title: Parseltongue Magic and All Its Secrets. He refrained from snatching the book from his hands. Emmanuel placed it on the table. It was a voluminous book and Seth could sense the various protection spells in order to guard this book against the effects of time.

"How long have you had this book?" Seth asked.

Emmanuel placed his hand on it.

"It wouldn't be surprising to tell you that the vampire who was behind this curse gave it to the witch woman he fell in love with."

"It doesn't belong to you." Seth replied dryly.

''You want it? Do what I ask of you!'' Emmanuel said.

Seth suddenly stood up. Emmanuel pointed his wand at him, and the others gasped.

"You are not in a position to negotiate with me! Not even threatening me, Greengrass." Seth said as his eyes turned black.

''No…'' muttered the patriarch, not believing his eyes. His wand shook slightly.

"We control the Gringotts vaults. I don't think you want to make me your enemy for a book, do you?" Seth said menacingly.

Monica ran to her mother who hadn't said a word from supper. Emmanuel cast a spell towards Seth who avoided it by only stepping to the side. He used his vampiric speed and went to push Monica to the ground before grabbing her mother from behind, preventing her from moving.

"Katherine! Fucking vampires! You don't respect your own laws!'' launched Emmanuel angrily.

"Seth!" cried Monica. "Don't hurt my parents, please!"

Monica stood up as Seth smelled Katherine's neck, then released her, taking a step back. Emmanuel cast another spell on him which he dodged before going over to him and slapping his hand which caused him to drop his wand. He then grabbed him by the collar.

"GAH! Have you got no respect?" Greengrass spat.

''Yes, I have, and that's why I give myself the right to take the book, but I also intend to see if I can undo this curse, but only because I respect Monica.'' Seth said before letting him go violently who fell and snagged the chair as he passed.

Seth picked up the book from the table. He looked at Monica, then at Emmanuel again.

"Your word, Vulken, and House Greengrass will ally with you." Emmanuel muttered, seeing an opportunity.

Seth smirked.

"You have it." He replied before apparating away.

OoOoO

Vulken Castle

Seth apparated in the living room, the only possible place without an anti-apparition spell. Tom, who was reading in a sofa, looked up at Seth who placed the book on his lap. Tom opened his eyes wide as he read the title and started flipping through it immediately. Seth sat down next to him and read what he was reading at the same time as him.

There were dozens of rituals, spells, transfiguration spells and enchantments that they had never read or known at Hogwarts. Some used dark magic, but all were recited in Parseltongue.

"That's amazing." Tom muttered in Parseltongue.

"It is." Seth said similarly.

Seth had a photographic memory and absorbed every line, every paragraph, and for a long time he believed that Tom had this same gift as he did, for he could recite every line when a teacher asked him a question.

It is without saying a word that they passed through the book several hours later. They then went to the hall of mirrors practicing some spells they had read, and it was not until the wee hours of the morning that they went to bed.

Days repeated and Seth embedded several enchantments on the castle using Parseltongue.

He also acquired two house-elves with the help of the Malfoys. It definitely took a wizard in a family to have a house-elf, so the elves couldn't have bonded with the Vulken before Seth was born. Lazarus looked at them with a face of disgust and nudged one lightly with the tip of his cane.

"Did you say house elf? And what does it do?'' asked Lazarus.

"Take them as... servants, but with magic, their own magic." Seth explained.

Lazarus blinked.

''Magic? But are you crazy or what? What if they hex us because they're not happy or whatever.'' Lazarus said.

Seth chuckled and shook his head. The two elves were embarrassed.

"Lazarus. House elves will never use their magic on you or even the humans here on this island.'' Seth said before looking at the elves. "On the other hand, although you must obey the vampires here, some humans will also be able to help you familiarize yourself with the tasks to be done here. That's what they're here for, you don't have to be nervous. They need to get to know you too.'' Seth said.

Elisabeth, one of the servants present, approached them and held out her hand. There was also Michael and Kathleen.

"I'm Colpy." The elf squealed before taking Elizabeth's hand in his.

"Me, Padry." squealed the other elf.

Seth turned heels and walked out to the garden with Lazarus.

"I don't know how long I will be leaving for Uagadou. Can I trust you, Lazarus, as always?''

"Of course, my Prince."

"Elves can send messages to me and my father much faster than owls. They can fix, clean, and do things much more efficiently than humans. As they are bound to me, only me can release them from their… service, which I won't, but treat them right, for they'll be the two most loyal creatures you'll know.'' Seth said.

Lazarus sighed.

"Okay, fine, and what about your…guest?" Lazarus said.

"Tom? He returns to Hogwarts for his final year. I don't see how he would bother." Seth said.

Lazarus said nothing as they continued their walk through the garden.

"He is…disturbed. He gives off a vibe that I've only experienced with Emrick." Lazarus said before sitting down in a bench.

Seth sat down next to him. Servants were cleaning the flower plants near them. Seth knew why Lazarus could feel that something was wrong with Tom, since his soul was already fractured into three pieces, and Lazarus probably felt it somehow.

"He found a way to be immortal." Seth said. "It required using very dark magic."

"Hmm. He's more dangerous than Grindelwald, my Prince." Lazarus noted.

"Dangerous?" Seth asked.

"Tell me... what does he want, exactly?" Lazarus asked.

"Knowledge, among other things. He wanted the time needed to reach the heights of magic.'' Seth said.

"Becoming a vampire could have been an option." Lazarus smiled.

''No. You know Grindelwald can't do magic anymore. Besides, Tom would never have wanted to be dependent on anything, like blood." Seth explained.

"Tsk. What else?''

"Let wizards rule the world."

"That's a nice rehearsal of someone we know." Lazarus said, thinking of Gellert. "And so, what are we in this world of his?"

"I intend to work at the ministry to change things, little by little. It takes the alliance of the wizarding families and when we finally have control over the humans, there will be no limits.'' Seth said.

"Do you mean we won't be confined to this island only?" Lazarus asked hopefully.

''Exactly. It will be on a global scale, without hiding.'' Seth said.

"Hmm."

There was a moment when they didn't speak, and then Seth remembered the conversation he'd had with Greengrass.

"Lazarus. Do you know of a vampire who courted the Greengrass family hundreds of years ago and had the power to put a curse on women?'' Asked Seth.

"Oh...hmm...maybe Francois." Lazarus thought, one hand rubbing his chin. "His venom is peculiar… and he is as old as your father, even that I believe it was Emrick who sired him. On the other hand, I know that with the war of humans at the moment, François finds himself in the heart of the conflict. France was… conquered by this… Hitler. So, talking to him won't be easy."

"Heh, the human war... I wonder how many died from it." Seth said.

"Several millions, I believe. Too bad we can't take advantage of it and thus expose ourselves. Just imagine... killing humans as we see fit, no matter who wins, HA!'' Laughed Lazarus.

"You are thinking aloud, my dear friend. I didn't think you were so bloodthirsty.'' Seth said.

Lazarus shook his head and chuckled lightly.

"One of the pleasures of being a vampire, my prince. We are always hungry for blood. The only control we have on ourselves is that we might be exterminated.'' Lazarus replied with a sigh. "You must surely know that feeling too, right? Didn't you enjoy killing that woman while you were staying with your father?''

Seth frowned.

"How do you know what happened?" Seth asked.

"I have my sources. I am your guardian and adviser. It is my duty to know everything about you and to protect you. I will never judge you for the decisions you make, just like bonding with… Tom.'' Lazarus said as Tom exited the castle and walked towards them. "Speaking of the devil…"

Lazarus was talking about Tom and from his tone of voice, Seth understood that he really didn't like him, and Lazarus didn't like any wizard, no matter who it was. Lazarus stood up and nodded to Seth before heading towards the castle. Tom sat down where Lazarus had been a moment before.

"That Lazarus really doesn't like me." Tom said.

"Don't take it personal, but I think he likes your goals for us. Since the mark…he has a very hard time trusting anyone or anything that possesses magic. Getting chained up like this…" Seth said. "But, on the other hand, more and more families are allying themselves with the Vulken."

The sun was setting, and the sky was filling with pink and purple colors. The bench was placed facing the cliff and the ocean. The view was splendid, and no one needed to speak. Seth sometimes wondered if Tom was capable of appreciating certain beauties of nature.

"Tell me, the other day when you brought the book…I felt a magic that morning…it went to my chest and through my body. What was that?'' Tom asked.

Seth snorted. No, Tom didn't like anything but magic.

"I had gone to the village and renewed the various spells, enchantments, and runes of the island, once placed by Flamel… but this time it was my magic. That's what you must have felt.'' Seth said with a hint of pride.

"Show-off." Tom said.

Seth laughed and another silence fell.

"Won't you come with me there?" Seth asked, speaking of Uagadou.

''No. I have something I want to get.'' Tom said.

"Ah, so what else could be in Hogwarts that you don't know or don't have?" Seth asked.

"The Founders' artifacts." Tom replied.

"Do you know what they are? Other than the Ravenclaw Tiara, I don't know the others." Seth said, very vaguely remembering reading a passage in one of the Hogwarts history books.

"Hmm. The fact that you remember this object and not the others surprises me. Gryffindor had a sword, Helga Hufflepuff had a chalice, and Slytherin had a locket. The tiara is the one I believe I can get." Tom said.

''Really? Did you manage to speak with Helena, the Ravenclaw ghost?'' said Seth.

Tom smirked.

"She almost told me before the end of classes. This time I'll get it." Tom assured.

"And what are you going to do with it… no, let it be, I don't want to know." Seth said realizing that Tom would only want those items to make Horcruxes out of them.

Seth fiddled with his golden blood pact ring mind-absently.

"I will probably go to all these schools. For now, I have other goals.'' Tom said after another moment of silence.

Seth rose from his seat.

"If you say so, V. Would you like to duel?" Seth asked, stretching.

"I'll always be up for it." Tom said.
