The week goes by good. They stay at Olivia's apartment. Calvin comes to the station after school until Olivia leaves to go home.It was Olivia's weekend to be on call but they went out on Saturday to go watch the lorax. Even though it was a kid movie, Calvin wanted to go see it.
Sunday morning Olivia got called into a case so she had to call a babysitter to stay with Calvin because Alex was still out of town.
Olivia calls Alex, stepping out of the car at the crime scene.
"Alex,I got called into a crime scene. Drive safe. I love you" Olivia says into her voicemail pocketing the phone.
The case opened up a case Olivia had eight years prior. Olivia wholeheartedly believed she put the right guy in prison. Haden was the ADA that caught the case. Olivia had to give him her word she had the evidence to back up her putting him in prison eight years ago. They ran with the copycat angle when it looked like Pena could have set it up from inside prison. It looked promising that it was a copycat until the DNA came back and wasn't the guy they had in custody. Cragen had to cover all the bases and had the team also look into the previous rape. The detectives went over witness statements and re-interviewed them again.
Olivia and Amaro interviewed the first victim again and Olivia noticed a discrepancy in the color of the scarfs. They checked the color in the evidence box and Olivia felt horrible.
Olivia and Cragen had to tell Haden what happened and he was not happy with how the investigation was turning out.
Olivia went with Ellis to visit Pena to tell him the good news that they had real evidence that didn't point towards him. The visit didn't go well. Olivia told Ellis she prided herself on not being a coercive detective but that's exactly what she did eight years ago.
Olivia and Ellis went separate ways when they got off the train.
Olivia pulled her phone out to call Alex. The phone rang three times and went to voicemail. Olivia breathes out and calls Haden asking him to meet her for dinner. Olivia sees him walk in and sit across from her.
"Thanks for meeting me" Olivia tells him.
"Of course, I take it Greenhaven didn't go so well?" He asked, sipping his water.
Olivia shook her head.
"No, Pena is pissed and it's my fault he's in there" Olivia tells him.
"You couldn't have known, you were just looking at an evidence log you trusted to be right" Haden tells her.
"I pride myself on not being that good ol boy detective, but that's what I did and an innocent man is in prison right now" Olivia shook her head unbelievably.
"This guilt you're feeling proves that you aren't like them, but I do appreciate you keeping me updated" Haden tells her.
They finish dinner and Olivia heads over to Alex's.
Olivia knocks on the door and Calvin answers.
"Hey, where's Alex?" Olivia asks, crossing the threshold.
"In the shower, we are about to watch a movie. Did you want to stay?" Calvin asks, looking up at her hopeful.
Olivia musters up a small smile.
"That sounds like just what I need right now" Olivia tells him.
They sit on the couch and wait for Alex to come out snacking on popcorn and twizzlers.
That night when Calvin went to bed Olivia poured her and Alex a glass of wine. Alex sat putting her feet in Olivia's lap. Olivia set her glass down on the table and took one of Alex's feet in her hands to rub it. Alex let out a little moan at how nice it felt to have Olivia rub her foot. Olivia continued to rub her foot before switching to the other.
"How was Albany?" Olivia asked, taking a sip of her wine.
"It was good. I completed all my training for the year" Alex tells her while sipping her wine.
"How was your meeting with McCoy?" Olivia asked.
"McCoy asked me if I'd be interested in an Executive Assistant District Attorney position coming open in a few months." Alex told her.
"Really? Do you want it?" Olivia questioned intrigued.
"I do, I mean it gets me out of SVU so we don't have to hide our relationship from the squad. There would be no conflict of interest concerns. I would be my own boss again" Alex says smirking at the last comment.
"Does that mean you've accepted it?" Olivia asked her, looking over at Alex's face, to see it light up at this opportunity.
"I told him I'd have an answer by the end of the week. I wanted to talk to you about it" Alex says, finishing off her glass and setting it on the table.
"It sounds like it's something you want. What department is it?" Olivia asked.
"The violence against women's and children's department. I would be supervising a group of young ADA's that think they know everything. I've had this opportunity in the past and I don't think I did so well in homicide as bureau chief." Alex tells her quietly.
"Let's not forget you were one of those know it all young ADA's" Olivia says chuckling which caused Alex to give her a small smile.
Olivia reached over and held Alex's hand causing her to look up.
"It's different this time, you're not trying to find your footing in this world. And for the record I think you did a good job then" Olivia says back softly.
"You really think so?" Alex questioned with emotion catching in her voice.
"I do, I think McCoy is giving you this opportunity to prove to yourself something he already knows, that you can do this" Olivia tells her supportively.
"I do, I want this" Alex confirmed, smiling brightly at Olivia.
"Congratulations lex" Olivia says smiling back at her.
Alex grins and climbs over into Olivia's lap.
The next day Ellis had to go to Haden's office to talk with him. It was during the course of their conversation Ellis realized there might be something more than professionalism before him and Olivia. When Haden tells him exactly the same thing Olivia said about her pride about this case the day before.
Ellis questioned Haden's relationship with Olivia. He made it out to be more than what it is. Olivia and Haden stopped any type of relationship that could be foreseen as unprofessional when she realized she never wanted to do anything that could jeopardize her relationship with Alex.
That night Haden called Olivia and asked her to meet him. They drove around until they found an empty parking lot. He told her what Ellis had insinuated about their relationship and they both knew even though they stopped anything before it could hurt a case or Olivia's relationship. They did have moments outside of work that could be used against them.
Olivia went to see Ellis the next day. She tried to explain that their friendship had nothing to do with the case. Ellis believed her because he knows Olivia and he knows Haden but how was he supposed to defend his client when he had a way to get him out now but that two people could lose their jobs. Olivia bargained with Ellis asking for a week to finish out the case before he did anything. Ellis granted her the time and she left his office feeling worse then she did when she went in. She had a week to find the real suspect she let get away eight years prior. It also means she has to tell Alex that she could potentially lose her job and what happened between her and Haden.
Olivia went into the office and doubled down on trying to find leads on a new suspect. They find that the US navy uniforms are similar to the Brazilian navy ones. Two of the witnesses they had interviewed on the previous rape were a part of the Brazilian navy and one of them pointed the finger at Pena initially. They hurry to get both victims a lineup with pictures to see if they can ID him. They both do. Fin gets the suspect's friend to get him off the ship so they can arrest him. They set up a sting at the bar, the suspect tries to hit Amaro and he arrests him.
Olivia spends the rest of the weekend at work. Alex and Calvin come to see her on Sunday at the precinct surprising her with lunch.
"Olivia!" Calvin shouts across the room which causes her and a few uni's to look her way.
Olivia stands up and Calvin runs to her, hugging her.
Alex makes her way over to them.
"Hi Detective" Alex says grinning, handing her a container with a turkey and cheese sandwich and chips.
"Thank you, Counselor" Olivia says back lovingly as her heart hurts knowing she's going to have to talk to her soon.
Calvin sits in the chair beside Olivia's desk and Alex sits on the side.
"We wanted to come visit you" Alex tells her.
"Yea, we already had lunch so we wanted to bring you some" Calvin tells her in agreement.
"Well thank you, I'm starving" Olivia tells them while taking a bite of her sandwich.
They stay there for a while talking with Olivia. Alex finally decides for them to leave so Olivia can actually get some work done. Olivia finishes up late and stays at her place that night.
The next day Olivia goes to court to see the hearing of getting Pena out of jail since they found the real colbert. The judge rules for it and lets him out of jail. Olivia heads back to work and finishes out her day. It was right before she left the lab called to tell her the suspect's DNA matched all the crime scenes. She breathed a sigh of relief knowing he didn't get away this time. Olivia heads into Cragen's office to tell him. Cragen also tells her that Haden is being transferred to a new division and will be looking at all of their old cases.
Olivia calls him when she is leaving the squad and meets him for drinks. Olivia finds him at the bar and sits next to him.
"So Chief Haden, congratulations" Olivia tells him toasting.
"Thanks" Haden says back.
He paused for a second.
"I asked Ellis to be a part of my outside counsel" Haden tells her.
"I don't think he's a joiner" Olivia replied cheekily.
"We'll see" Haden says back with a smirk.
"I should go, I need to get back to Alex and Calvin" Olivia says standing up.
Haden puts his hand out grabbing her wrist for a second then letting it go.
"How'd she take it?" Haden asked seriously.
"Which part? The fact that I let you kiss me? Or that I could've lost my job over it?" Olivia questioned huffing out.
"Liv" Haden starts to say.
"I haven't told her. I'm going to tonight" she tells him.
Haden gives her a nod and she walks away.
"Goodluck" Haden calls after her.
Olivia unlocks Alex's apartment door and comes in seeing that the lab in the living room is on and Alex is sitting there with a book and a glass of wine.
Olivia locks the door and sets her stuff down on the table next to the door. Alex looks up from the book to give her a soft smile.
"Hey, long day?" Alex asks, setting her book down.
Olivia sits down on the couch, hands folded, looking over at Alex.
"Yea, tough case but we finally got the innocent man out of prison and the real rapist is behind bars" Olivia tells her nodding.
"Good, at least he's not going anywhere now." Alex says looking at the defeated look on Olivia's face.
"Liv, I know you feel like this is your fault but you couldn't have known" Alex tells her softly.
"That's what everyone keeps telling me" Olivia mutters.
"What matters now is he is caught" Alex says reassuringly.
They sit in silence for a moment before Olivia looks up to Alex staring at her.
"There's something you should know" Olivia admits quietly.
"Okay?" Alex says confused.
"During the course of this case Ellis found something out that could have cost me my job" Olivia says, holding her breath.
Alex looks at her confused, eyebrows scrunched together.
"What could he have found out?" Alex questioned slowly.
"David Haden and I hung out a couple of times through the case when he and I worked together. It was just drinks during the case and dinner when it was over, but he did kiss me" Olivia tells her quietly looking at the ground.
"He what!?" Alex questioned standing up putting her hands on her hips looking pissed.
Olivia stood up too, holding her hand out to Alex so she could explain.
"He kissed me, and I didn't stop him. But I never let it go further than that one kiss. I told him that it wasn't going to work and since then it's just been friendly meetings. After the hostage situation he asked about you and Calvin and I told him how lucky I was to have you. This case we just had he was the acting ADA on it. We had dinner to go over my meeting with Ellis and his client. I was just updating him on the case and I know it could've waited but it didn't mean anything. Ellis used our dinner against us and made it seem like we were more than what it was" Olivia rushes out taking a breath.
"Which was what?" Alex asks through gritted teeth.
"A friendly dinner between colleagues. I was updating him on my case. I promise you it didn't mean anything" Olivia tells her, stepping closer.
"And that's all it was, just that one kiss?" Alex questioned, glaring at her.
"Yes. I promise. It didn't mean anything to me. I don't even know why I did it" Olivia says pleadingly
"I- you could've lost your job over DAVID HADEN for a kiss. You risked our future over something as meaningless as a kiss. Were you ever going to tell me?" Alex raises her voice heatedly.
"It didn't mean anything, Alex! How was I supposed to know that a kiss and advances I turned down would jeopardize my career!?" Olivia yells back.
"Everything always comes out in the end Olivia!" Alex yells back just as loud.
Calvin comes out of his room rubbing his eyes.
"What's going on?" Calvin asked, looking at them through sleepy eyes.
"Nothing Calvin, go back to your room" Alex angrily says to him.
"But you're yelling" He says, sounding more awake than he had been.
"Everything's okay Calvin, sometimes adults argue but everything is just fine. Go back to sleep" Olivia says more softly to him giving him a reassuring smile.
Calvin looks between the two, Alex's cheeks are pink and her eyes are red with unshed tears. Olivia's face looks less mad than Alex's, especially while she's trying to smile at him. He nods at them and goes back to his room, shutting his door.
"Alex, listen to me" Olivia states much more calmly than she was a moment ago before Calvin interrupted them.
Alex crossed her arms sending Olivia a glare.
"I didn't tell you because it didn't mean anything to me. I promise you I would never do anything to jeopardize our relationship. I love you so much. I love Calvin and I love our life together. There is nothing I have ever wanted more than this right here, what we have '' Olivia tells her eyes burning with tears.
"I think I just need time" Alex softly says.
Olivia's face looks crestfallen at Alex's words.
Alex clears her throat and steps closer to Olivia taking both of Olivia's hands in hers.
"I know you love me. I know you love Calvin. Okay. I know that, but what I need is time to feel this, okay. I know you didn't tell me for malice but what I also know is you just told me you cheated on me. You let him kiss you, for a moment you wanted him." Alex explained her voice in pain.
"I don't want him" Olivia says, rushing out.
"You don't want him now" Alex responds back emphasizing on the now.
"Alex" Olivia says, her voice breaking.
"Olivia, I love you. I do, and I made a promise to you that I wasn't going anywhere. So, please. Let me feel this. We'll talk soon. Okay" Alex says softly.
Alex's eyes are on Olivia pleading her to understand.
Olivia opens her mouth and closes it a moment later. Olivia leans in and kisses Alex's cheek. Alex's eye's close at the feeling. Olivia lets go of Alex and walks out the door closing it behind her.
Alex sits down on the couch and let's a tear fall. Alex wasn't even really mad over the fact Haden kissed her. Alex was more mad over the fact that, one stupid little kiss could have ruined the rest of Olivia's career. Alex was hurt, yes, because Olivia let him kiss her. Alex knew Olivia was beautiful and a lot of people may want her attention in the future. Alex sighed and drained the rest of her glass and went to bed.
