Two weeks later the fallout of the Deila Wilson case began to calm down. It was just in time for Olivia's vacation with Alex and Calvin.
Calvin was officially out of school for the summer. They left early Sunday morning driving through a few different states looking at the scenery as they went. They were staying in a quaint loft style cottage right next to the water. The reviews for the cottage and the surrounding area were too great for Olivia to pass up.
Olivia opened her eyes to the bright sun glaring through the windows of their rental cottage for the week. Olivia closed her eyes back, rolled over arm reaching out as she went but it hit nothing but sheets. Olivia opened her eyes pouting looking around the room not seeing the blonde she was hoping to wake up to. Olivia blinked, pulling herself up into a sitting position grabbing her watch off the bedside table. Olivia saw it was a little after ten in the morning and was surprised that they let her sleep so long.
Olivia yawned and got out of bed, she made her way from the bed to the curtain that separated the living room and kitchen from their room. Alex was lounging on the couch with one of her new historical fiction romance novels with the fireplace running from across the room. Alex still had her sweats she wore to bed and a long sleeved shirt that matched them with her hair pulled up in a messy bun book on her knees and her coffee cup in hand. Olivia had a smile tug at the edge of her lips at the sight of her girlfriend.
Olivia went over to the kitchen and poured herself a cup of coffee, then went to sit down next Alex sipping away at her coffee.
"Good morning sleeping beauty" Alex greets her as she sits down.
"Hmm, Good morning to you" Olivia says back softly.
Olivia tilted her head to the side listening in on the rest of the cottage, after not hearing anything she turned back to look at Alex raising an eyebrow.
"Is our son still in bed too?" Olivia asked, taking another sip of her coffee.
Alex shook her head, placing her bookmark in her book and shutting it.
"No, actually he was up before me. I found him out on the side patio drawing the sights of the water crashing against the rocks, listening to his IPod" Alex told her.
"He really is one of a kind isn't he?" Olivia chuckles at Alex's response.
Alex genuinely smiles back at her nodding in agreement.
Alex's stomach grumbled bringing them back to the present.
"I better get started on brunch, how do you feel about banana pancakes?" Olivia asked scooting closer to Alex who slightly opened her legs so Olivia could get in between.
Alex sat her coffee on the table as Olivia got closer. Olivia was inches from her face when Alex answered.
"Hmm, sounds good" Alex says, stealing a kiss from Olivia's lips.
Olivia grinned into the kiss giving Alex another quick kiss before pulling back.
"How about I get started on the pancakes and you get Calvin" Alex suggests.
"Absolutely, I want to see the masterpiece he is working on anyway '' Olivia agrees.
Olivia gets up walking over to the door putting her shoes and jacket on before going outside to get Calvin. Olivia shuts the door behind her and follows the side of the cottage around until she sees him sitting there with a sketch pad on his lap looking out into the water. Olivia walked over to him gently, setting her hand on his shoulder letting him know she was there. Calvin looked up at her, smiling wide. He took out his headphone from his ear.
"Morning ma!" Calvin says excitedly.
"Good Morning, it looks like you've been busy. This is beautiful Calvin!" Olivia exclaimes smiling widely at him.
Calvin grinned back at her just as wide. He looked down at his sketch then back up to Olivia.
" Do you really think so?" Calvin asked shyly like he was battling with his insecurities.
Olivia bent down to be eye level with him.
"Absolutely" Olivia says her voice says with conviction.
He gives her a goofy grin and hugs her, after a moment they separate.
" Alex is starting on brunch, we should get inside and help" Olivia tells him.
"Okay" He tells her packing up his few different pencils and sketch pad.
Olivia threw her arm around his shoulder when he stood up and they walked back to the cottage.
" When you're done with that, We are framing that in the apartment" Olivia tells him proudly.
" Oh, you really don't have to" Calvin says, trying to brush it off.
"If you don't want us to frame it, that's fine, but I think it would make the apartment look even better." Olivia counters, not trying to pressure him.
Calvin is quiet the rest of the way back to the cottage. Olivia goes to open the door and Calvin grabs her arm holding her back for a second.
" I think it will look nice in the apartment too. I'll let you know when I'm done." Calvin tells her.
"Great" Olivia says back smiling at him.
They open the door and head inside. Alex was finishing up with the first batch of pancakes.
"Hey guys, pancakes are done! Help yourself" Alex tells them over her shoulder.
Calvin sat down at the island reaching over, putting a couple pancakes on his plate. He drowned them in syrup.
"Uh, don't you think that's enough syrup?" Olivia chuckled asking him.
Calvin looks up grinning at her.
"You can never have too much syrup!" Calvin says sweetly, picking up a bite of pancake and eating it.
Once Alex was finished with the batter she had she turned off the stove. Olivia and Alex made their breakfast plates sitting down next to Calvin.
"So I know it's a little colder than what we wanted but we can still go look around the town" Olivia says to them.
"Sounds good," Calvin comments through a mouth full of pancakes.
"I saw a hiking trail only a couple miles away, maybe after shopping we could do that too" Alex says to them.
"Yes, I saw the pictures online. It looks great" Calvin says excitedly.
"Sounds good to me too" Olivia says back.
They spent the day exploring what was around them. They hiked up the trail and stopped along the way for a picnic before finishing the trail. Calvin took pictures with his IPod excited to see everything. A couple passing by took a picture of all of them together and it was much appreciated.
That night when they went back to the cottage they made home made pizza and had smores over the fire for dessert.
The rest of the week that they were there it was more rainy and cold then they wanted but they did get to still do the boat tour they booked to see the coast of Maine. They still went out to some of the restaurants that were near them and the historical museums that Alex found so exciting. They found a great little ice cream shop and a hidden gem of a restaurant that turned out to be their favorite of the whole trip.
The week finally ended and they had to go home.
Calvin talked to his grandparents when they got back from their trip and they decided he would come up for the summer the following week.
That first week of summer went great for them.
Calvin hung out with Matt, Emily and Jake wanting to see them before going to his grandparents. Olivia and Alex took them to a movie that was playing in central park and they had a blast.
They dropped Calvin off at the airport the next week with hugs and told him to call as much as he wanted.
Alex and Olivia sighed as he walked through the gates.
"It's only for a little while" Olivia tells her.
Alex leaned her head against Olivia's.
"I know" Alex says back.
The weather heating up in New York made the crime rate go up a bit too, which made Alex and Olivia more busy with work.
By the time fourth of July came around Olivia and Alex decided to throw a celebration and be able to relax. They invited Fin,Munch, Ken and Alejandro to the beach for a picnic to watch the fireworks across the water. Alex and Olivia swam in the water for a bit before grilling up the food and making drinks for everyone.
