Chapter 14: Return for Thanksgiving – Persuasive Judy
Ross went to pick them up at the airport, the plane arrived in NY at 07:25 on Sunday, he left Judy and Jack at their house, and Chandler and the children stayed at Ross's house during that week. - The travelers arrived all tired, due to the time difference for them it was just over 03:00 AM, so after a comforting breakfast they went to rest. Of course at 5 PM they were cool as salads.
In the evening all the friends and Judy and Jack came, with enough pizzas and ice cream to go around, and they caught up on their experiences from both sides of the country.
Ross noticed his parents rejuvenated from him.
Phoebe noticed a more handsome and sexy Chandler with sun-lightened hair and a very tanned even to his more toned muscles, she found herself thinking of Chandler that way, she had never seen him like that.
After everyone left, arranging a barbecue for the next day, Chandler Ross and Rachel talked for a while. Chandler told them about the problems that Jack had at the beginning and that both kids were attending therapy in the school cabinet, and that it had done them good, he also told them that they had advised him to try to spend time alone with each kid, and it is doing it.
Ross asks him how his coworkers were, if he made friends, if he at least goes out for a drink. -
Chandler smiles to himself; "Actually, we get along well with our colleagues at the office, but they all have their families, so except at work we don't have a relationship, with whom I become friends and we go out on some Friday nights is Willy, my surf instructor. He is a guy in his 50s, bohemian, with an adventurous life, it's fun to talk to him, although he doesn't understand why I don't drink alcohol, but he entertains me with his stories, sometimes the occasional "seagull" appears, as he calls the surfers, who just want to have fun and are not looking for anything else. The truth is that with a couple of them I had some physical fun, no romance. Romance or crazy, just satisfaction…. it is understood"
"Yes, perfectly," Rachel said, "but no one you like a bit."
"Rachel, now I'm worse than when you met me in terms of commitment, I'm just looking for fun, the only difference with those years is that I'm no longer afraid of being alone, I have my children and when they leave to make their lives, I'm not afraid stay alone while I have peace in my heart. I am not going to expose him to any other blow, that is over for me "
Rachel was saddened by this stance of Chandler, the goofy 25-year-old when she met him, he had become a great guy and a great father, she really felt mad at Monica since she had screwed up her life forever, and he didn't deserve it.
The next day, during the barbecue, the bomb went off at the Gellers' house, Jack told them that they were going back to Honolulu to live permanently, that they planned to move after the New Year. Judy was nodding with a big smile.
Ross turned red and his mouth dropped open.
They all fell silent, not because they weren't happy with the decision, but because of Ross's reaction.
"Dad, they are crazy…. How are they going to move, where are they going to live, are they going to leave me alone…. "
"Son" Judy spoke "in the first place you are not left alone, since you have a beautiful family, and you really do not need us" Ross looked at her in astonishment.
"Who told you I don't need you."
"Son, we love you and we know that you love us, we do not abandon you or your family, but we believe that we deserve to live the last years in that place where we feel physically and emotionally so, so well" "I don't think you are so selfish to deny us that destiny"
"But mom, where are they going to live, what are they going to do with the house…"
Jack took the floor "we are going to live where we are now, with Chandler and the children"
Ross looked at Chandler with a "Geller" look "and you're okay with them living in your house?"
"Yes Ross, I agree and I'm happy for them, when I asked them to come with me I told them to do it for as long as they wanted, a month, several months or for a lifetime..., and on the other hand your parents can live wherever they want, they can continue with us or occupy one of the other two cabins, they choose, although me and the children love that they are with us"
"Besides, Ross, you're never going to stop being his favorite son, I'm only the second of the boys…. How could you be jealous of me?" Chandler said with a smile and some sarcasm.
Only then did Rachel intervene, "I'm happy for you, it's a brilliant decision, you look so radiant and rejuvenated -…. You are a great couple and it is beautiful that you have found your place in the world" "And forget about Ross he is still a capricious mama's boy" and they all laughed
Ross now turned the "Geller" look at Rachel.
From that moment on, the other friends congratulated them on their decision, despite Ross's offended and sad face.
While Chandler went to the head office to meet Steve and Harry, Judy and Jack got to work by contacting a real estate agent and starting to go through all the things they were going to get rid of since they didn't weigh much to carry, the clothes, the occasional souvenir, photos, and as for the trophies they still had from Ross, they would give them to him.
Thanksgiving day will be spent with the family, Phoebe and Mike went with his family.
Chandler, over the past few years, with the arrival of the children, had changed his attitude and was willing to join the others and eat the inevitable turkey.
On Friday Chandler and the children left for Honolulu, since on Monday the children would resume classes and Chandler would work for him, agreeing to return on December 22.
The following week Judy started a hell of a job trying to convince her son and daughter-in-law to move to Hawaii. She knew it was going to be a difficult undertaking, especially with Ross, so she decided to move on with Rachel first.
With the excuse of seeing the grandchildren, she arranges with Rachel to go to her house after school. Over coffee, Judy began to tell her how good it was in Honolulu, and that it would be good for them to live there too.
"Rach, these days I've been thinking how good it would be if they moved there, sell this house and buy something there"
"Judy, the idea is tempting, I would like a change of scenery and we could all be together, but what will Ross and I be working on?"
"Well, in your case you would have to see if Ralf has an office or representation there, and ultimately Jack and I could help you open a franchise, your own store."
"That would be a dream" Rachel sighed "I would have to find out very well in the company..." and I add "but what would Ross do?"
"Daughter, I was finding out, there are possibilities there at the university and also at the Museum of Natural Sciences, only Ross would have to give me his resume and I would take them, one of the ladies I play Bridge with is the sister-in-law of the director of the museum, and told me that she would introduce me…"
"Judy, talk to Ross" Rach said, "tell him all this, I'll support you, but I know that if anyone can convince Ross it's you, so go ahead"
Judy and Jack had several talks with Ross, at first he was totally skeptical and negative, but Rachel helped him think about how good it would be to live close to his parents and his best friend Chandler, and that actually sending a resume wouldn't risk nothing.
Finally, Ross gave in to the pressure from the women and handed Judy two resumes.
