(Henry POV)
"Should I wear my robes on the train, or change when we're almost there?" I looked at my brother, who stood over his bed, looking at his robes, anxiously. Beside them, he had a regular outfit set out, just a pair of jeans and a graphic T-shirt.
"I'm going to change on the train." I said and nodding, he decided he'd do the same. We were both worried about making a good first impression, but ultimately, I wasn't going to let the worry and stress get to me. I had a lot more to worry about.
Like the nightmares.
God, I hated the nightmares.
They weren't random in any stretch of the imagination and I was really starting to figure out what was happening in them, but it didn't make them any more pleasant.
The pensive I'd gotten for my birthday seemed to help some— especially working on forgetting the nightmares after I had them, but I was starting to wonder if I would need anything to help me start preventing them, like a potion or something.
I picked out the clothes I was going to wear and got dressed quickly. I looked at the clock beside my bed and sighed when I saw it was only half past seven. We wouldn't be leaving until a quarter past ten, so I had time to look through my trunk and make sure I had absolutely everything I would need. I was so impatient to go, but also too nervous to think too much about it.
"Haven't you checked your trunk like a thousand times?" Harry said and I shrugged.
"Never hurts to make sure everything's perfect."
"If we forget anything, Aunt Rose can just send it to us with Hedwig."
"That's true." I said as I stood and walked over to the window, where we'd let Hedwig, our snowy owl out last night to hunt. I'd let Harry name her, because when we were little, I'd gotten to name the hamster we'd had for a year before it died. He'd decided on Hedwig, a name he'd seen in one of our books and I'd liked the name.
I watched the window for a long moment, then turned to begin cleaning up my side of the room. Harry and I didn't really have sides of the room, but just our own separate beds, desks, drawers and the such. Our beds didn't take up too much room as they were nook-like bunk beds, which were inset into the walls and took up the entire side. Dad had put them like that, so we could have plenty of space in our room without feeling too crowded and I liked it. It made it feel like the room was massive, plus because mom had opted for light colored curtains in our room, which let the sunlight in, it was nice to have curtains on our beds to close when we wanted it dark, especially if the other wanted light.
I, for example had been scared of the dark until I was nine and had needed a nightlight during that time, while Harry preferred to sleep in the dark. I loved so much that despite our differences, my cousin was ultimately more like my brother and was my best friend through and through.
Once I was done cleaning up, I looked at the clock and seeing it was eight, I looked at Harry and asked if he was ready to go downstairs. When he confirmed that he was, we headed downstairs to find Mum making breakfast, while dad was under the sink, trying to fix the pipe, which had started leaking last night. I loved this house and how it wasn't perfect, so it often broke in some places. Mum didn't like to use magic on everything, so dad had been forced to pick up some muggle trades.
"Morning boys." Mum said as she flipped a pancake. "I didn't realize you were already awake."
"It's fine, Aunt Rose." Harry said as we sat down. "We're just too anxious and excited to sleep." I nodded in agreement as dad moved out from under the sink and went to turn on the faucet, which was now leaking in a second place.
"Rooossee." Dad groaned, "Please, can't I just fix it with magic?"
"No, you already fixed the bathroom doorknob, the kitchen lightbulb, the basement freezer and the back door with magic. You've got to learn to be practical. What if you lose your wand or something?"
"I'll get a new one..?" He huffed and she sighed.
"Zander, muffle skill are important to have."
"Yeah, well, it's still leaking and I've been here half an hour. If it's not fixed by the time we sit down for breakfast, I'm fixing it with my wand, okay?"
Mum nodded in agreement, though she said, "okay, but you better be actually trying to fix it and not just pretending like yesterday."
"You can always come fix it."
Mum laughed, "Zander, why do you think the freezer was as fried as it had been when you fixed it? I couldn't do that, my hands are destructive when it comes to repairing, not helpful." Dad laughed in return and Harry and I smiled.
As dad went back to work, trying to fix the sink, Mum talked to Harry and I about the train and how the platform worked. It was a big mystery to us and we were so excited. "Your dad told me all about it and Hogwarts when we were soon to be engaged." I knew a lot of times when wizards married muggles, they hid their magic from them, but dad, he'd wanted to be as honest with mum as he could. It helped that mum had had a sister that had been a witch, too.
"I love the story of you and dad getting engaged." Came Amber's voice as she entered the room, Sam behind her.
Even though we were blood relatives, I didn't feel as close to my little brother as I did to Harry. Sam was the kid in the family that was so quiet and often not seen because he wasn't heard. He was quiet and shy, even with us, though he was always happy and positive. He had the best outlook on the world in my opinion and I loved him for that.
"Well, I'm telling the boys about Hogwarts." Mum said and at this Sam brightened as he sat down.
"Ooooh, I wanna go to Hogwarts." Amber said and Mum smiled.
"Two more years, then you're there."
"I wanna go now." She pouted and as she did, Xayla, Sirius, Jade and Sapphire came in, the twin girls looking grumpy and tired as usual.
"Waking up is the worst." Jade said as she rubbed her eyes and her sister nodded. When they'd been little, we'd all assumed they were identical, but after watching them get older, it was apparent that though they very much looked alike, the two girls were as different as possible. Jade had long, black hair with her fathers eyes, while Sapphire's eyes had slowly changed color over the years to resemble more of a mix of her parents and her hair was cut short, resting at her jawline. They were the same height and body build but for the most part, I at least could always tell them apart.
"They sound just like their mother, when she was a kid." Dad said as he got out from under the sink and testing the water again, he cheered when the leak seemed to be gone and as I made eye contact with him, he put his finger to his lips and hid his wand back into his shirt.
"Yeah, well not everyone can be as happy in the morning as you, Sunshine Bear." Xayla said and we laughed as Toby came in with Remus, who was holding Relena. Mum was setting out food now and dad came over after washing his hands to help her.
(Harry POV)
Getting out of the house was absolute Chaos.
Hedwig had returned, so after Henry and I put her in her cage, we grabbed all of our stuff to take downstairs. Amber was crying, because she wanted to go to the platform but this time, Uncle Zander had put his foot down and said no.
"This is your brother and Harry's special day." He'd told her, "Only your mum and I are going."
Amber continued to cry though, until finally, she stormed off and I could hear her bedroom door slam in the distance.
Then it was time to say goodbye to everyone and as I said goodbye to uncle Sirius, he stopped me for a second before I could move on. "Here, I was going to give this to you on your birthday, but I wanted to save it until now." He handed me a parcel, then pulling something else out, he set it in my hand.
"A mirror?" I asked, curiously.
"It's a two way mirror, when you look into it and say my name, I will have my mirror on me and it will let me know you're there. If you ever need anything, just use that mirror, okay?" I nodded as he gave a smile and hugged me tightly. "James and I used to get up to some crazy shenanigans when we were younger, using those mirrors." I grinned in reply as I shoved the parcel and mirror into my trunk and moved on to hug Uncle Remus.
Once we were finally all at the platform, Uncle Zander hurried us along, but stopped when he saw something that caught his attention. "Molly! Arthur!" The two redheads turned, thus causing their kids to turn, every single one of them having their parents signature red hair.
"Zander!" Molly hurried over and embraced him, "How are you? Oh I bet you're wonderful! Those must be your kids! First years? Ron is going into his first year." As she went on, Uncle Zander and her talked for a moment and I looked at the group of redheads, a bit shyly.
"Hey." Henry grinned, "Which one of you is Ron?" A young boy that looked about our age gave a smile and we smiled back.
"Look." An older redhead said and that's when I noticed he was talking to his twin brother. "Another set of identicals." They snickered.
"I'm Henry and this is James." My brother introduced me, easily used to introducing me, using my middle name.
The boys nodded and we looked at Ron, "are you excited? What house do you think—"
"Come on, we must get through the barrier." Uncle Zander now said and nodding, we followed him as he reminded us what to do when we go through. Henry and I went first, then Ron and his brother Percy went next.
When Uncle Zander and Aunt Rose were through, Henry and I went to them to say goodbye.
"I can't believe you're already old enough to go to Hogwarts." Aunt Rose cried as she hugged us tightly. I smiled as I hugged her back, then hugged my uncle just as tightly.
"We're still your little boys." Henry said, "Just bigger and pimplier." She laughed through her crying as Uncle Zander looked proudly down at us.
"You boys be good, okay? I'll see you when you get there." We nodded in Unison and as crewmen came around and began closing up the train, Uncle Zander helped us get our trunks onto the train, then as we got in, he and Aunt Rose gave us each one last tight hug.
"Have fun." Aunt Rose choked and we grinned at each other.
"We will!" With that, we watched as the train pulled away from the platform, along with our childhood.
Now we were off to school and a new life.
