A/N: Hey friends, hope you've had a good week! I have! :D I'm excited to get this ball rolling and I hope you are, too! So many fun things coming up, including the eventual rescue of Harry and Henry. I've written half the part now and I'm having to split it up into two parts because it's so long, but that's not for a few chapters. So I can make sure I have material to upload to you guys, I try to always stay ten chapters ahead. I'm so excited!
@Mewtwoz - Thank you so much for your review and don't worry, the rescue is swiftly approaching, but some things are going t9 happen in the rescue that I'm setting up context for beforehand so the story can flow smoothly.
(Urie POV)
Tzieta, my little house elf had dropped me off at the station around ten-thirty, so of course I was one of the first to get onto the train and find a place to sit. Eventually though, within about five minutes, I was curled up on my seat and fast asleep. I'd woken up really early in anticipation of returning to school, and now, I was starting to feel that exhaustion.
Last summer, my father had sent me to the United States, where I should've been relaxing and surfing, but instead, I'd been unceasingly writing to Draco and trying to see if he knew anything about where Henry and James— No, Henry and Harry could be— I still couldn't believe that I'd been friends with Harry Potter for a whole year and didn't even realize it. In any case, Draco and I had been very cryptic in our letters and only spoke a little in person when his father had allowed him to come out and see me, but other than that, we'd had little communication.
In his last letter though, he'd told me that when he saw me, there would be much to discuss and so now I was all anxious about what he had to say. It was around the time the train would be leaving that I heard the door open and shut again. Still curled up in my seat however, I just assumed that some kid had peaked in before leaving, but that's when I heard something moving around and I peaked an eye open.
Putting two trunks away was a girl with short, dark brown hair with dark cherry red strands all throughout it and sharp features that reminded me of a sharp blade. The girls gray eyes scanned the room, and thinking me asleep, she seemed to let herself relax as she sat down and looked out the window. I could tell that she was not a girl to mess with— she kinda reminded me of McGonagall in that way I suppose.
I was just wondering if I should 'wake up' and introduce myself, when I heard her open the window, which made me freeze. Was she going to talk to someone, or— it only took me a second to realize that she was listening to someone, though because I wasn't as close as she was to the window, I couldn't make out what it was. This girl liked to listen into conversations, huh? I honestly found that really interesting. What was she doing it for? Was she trying to gather information? She had to only be eleven or so, so maybe she was listening in to her parents.
It was when I heard her close the window that I decided to yawn and slowly stretch, causing her to look at me in surprise, before the look was wiped off her face and replaced with an unreadable expression. Oh, so she was a defensive one? Pure blooded parents like Dracos? Maybe? If she was anything but pure blooded, she was going to find herself in a world of people now that not only wanted to hurt her, but thought that it would be better if she didn't exist.
"Hi." I said and she just stared at me, not opening her mouth or even appearing as if she intended to say anything. "I'm Urie."
"Cool." She looked back out the window and I glared at her as a knock sounded, then the door and— ohmygoodnessitwasJakoba.
I stared, wide-eyed as he entered the compartment and smiled from me to her. "Hey Urie, I see you've met my friend, Axelle."
Wait, that name sounded familiar. "Isn't she your muggle friend?" At his grin, my heart sank.
"Turns out she's a witch." Oh great, the girl he'd told me he likes is a witch. My life is over! I nodded with a smile as I looked at Axelle.
"You know her?" The gray eyed girl looked from Jakoba to me and I nodded, feeling a bit smug, though I tried not to show it.
"I know him from school. We met last year." I said. "We have loads of classes together."
"I wonder how this years going to be." Jakoba said as he sat down next to the other girl and I nodded.
"Draco says he's got stuff to tell us, but he couldn't risk saying anything through the mail. He only just convinced his father to let him come to school. They almost weren't going to let him."
"My father says I shouldn't trust him." Jakoba said and I huffed.
"Well your father is wrong." Came a voice from the compartment door and Jakoba grinned.
"That's what I told him." Jakoba said as Draco Malfoy entered the room, put his trunk away, then sat beside me.
"Good, because I got news, but first." He stood, and beginning to walk around the compartment, he pulled out his wand and put up silencing charms, which made me look at him in wonder. Where had he learned to do that?
I didn't have to wait long for my answer though, because as Draco sat back down, he said. "Been practicing that one for a month now, along with a few others, you can never be too careful."
"So a lot of bad stuff is happening." Jakoba stated. "Is You-Know-Who back? Is your father a Death Eater?" He sat forward in his seat as Draco seemed to fidget uncomfortably in his own, obviously thinking about what to say, before ultimately deciding that the truth would be what was best and of course, it was the right thing to do.
"The Dark Lord has returned and he has Henry and James— err, Harry. They're both hard to get to, but I used an invisibility cloak to sneak around until I found them." I gave him a look, knowing exactly what cloak he was talking about. How had he gotten Harry's invisibility cloak? Had he stolen it? As if he'd read my mind, Draco looked at Jakoba and Axelle and said. "The cloak was Harry's, but when we went into the chamber, he left it at the entrance and I found it on my way out. It's a really nice cloak and a really helpful tool."
"Blimey." Jakoba said, his voice quiet. "My father says that his followers are already beginning to gather, is this true?"
"Yes." Draco said, "My fathers Manor is a main point of gathering, but I think they're planning to break a lot of people out of Azkaban. Without those locked away, the Dark Lords ranks are merely a skeleton of what they once were."
"…but with everyone..?" My voice was quiet as I spoke and I glanced at Axelle, who had pursed her lips, not seeming to find the conversation very pleasant.
"With everyone in Azkaban most likely going to rejoin the Dark Lord, and the Order of the Phoenix a shell of what it once was, this is looking very grim indeed." Draco sighed as Jakoba watched him carefully.
"So, you really don't believe in all that blood supremacy stuff your father preaches?" He'd seen the way Draco had acted the previous year and even if the boy could've been a lot worse, he'd still shown some pretty awful behavior, but I had faith in Draco.
"I mean, I believe magic in it of itself to be superior, but honestly, I've learned that it doesn't matter the kind of magic one has. Not to mention that I was looking through my family tree and the amount of inbreeding is disturbing if you look at it from a biological point of view." Jakoba snickered.
"That's the problem a lot of royalty faced in times of old." Then as an afterthought, he said. "My father thinks that muggleborns come up in the gene pool to help wizards not inbreed and keep us an intelligent and strong bunch. Magic doesn't stop the horrific effects that close relatives having children can cause, so naturally, there's got to be some way fixing things."
"You know." I said, "Instead of hating muggles, they should be encouraging us to be with them— if everyone's a wizard, then you can't hate muggleborns."
"That's a fascinating thought." Draco nodded, then with a sigh, he said. "I don't want to be at school without Harry and Henry. I don't give a damn if 'James' is Harry Bloody Potter. It sucks that they were caught."
"We can talk to Professor Darken when we get to school." Jakoba said and with a nod, we all agreed that we weren't just going to sit around, but we would see about helping things out as best we could.
Three months had passed since the Dark Lord had escaped Hogwarts with the sorcerer's stone and though he was seemingly returning to power in a very quiet way, I knew that that wouldn't last much longer and that war was very much on the horizon.
(Axelle POV)
It was more frightening than I'd expected, sitting beside Jakoba as he and the other kids sat around me and discussed everything that was going on in the wizarding world. I definitely hadn't expected things to be as grim as they sounded and Jakoba and I hadn't really discussed too much about the Dark Lord in detail, so hearing all of this made me uneasy; so much so, that I was rather pleased when a knock sounded on the door and the trolley witch poked her head inside the room to offer us snacks.
Immediately, Jakoba was on his feet, along with Urie and while Draco and I watched, they were buying the lot of snacks and returning to us, where they dumped the treats on the remaining seats, offering us some to share as they did I decided only to have a cauldron cake, but other than that, I continued to quietly listen as they discussed anything and everything.
Draco had apparently snuck around his family's home over break, being hidden under an invisibility cloak and he'd also read many books, which he spoke of in great detail. "Did you know that Voldemort was once called Tom Riddle? Not only that, but he's not a pureblood— I searched every record I could find from several different countries and couldn't find the family name 'Riddle' anywhere."
"So he really is like Hitler." Jakoba said. "A non-pureblood who is probably only appealing to purebloods, because it's what helps him gain power." He sighed. "The lot of them are hypocrites."
Draco looked for a brief moment, as if Jakoba had offended him, but then seeming to remember something, he scowled. "My father is always going on and on about how our family is one of the best and purest, but did you know that most of our wealth was made from dealing with muggles before the statute of secrecy? It's disgusting hypocrisy and I couldn't believe it when I read it. That's when I got into learning about all the inbreeding going on."
"My family is one of the purest, but we never mind muggles entering the family, though it does make things harder for them, because if they're the only one who can't do magic, then I bet they can feel really lonely." Draco nodded and I watched as Jakoba shook his head.
"Did you get the chance to talk to Harry or Henry this summer?"
"I was able to speak with Harry and he's glad I got his cloak. I was going to give it back, but he told me to keep it and give it to his Uncle Zander if I ended up giving it to anyone, but I'll see what this year brings. I know with everything happening, Hogwarts definitely won't look as it usually does." The others nodded and I pulled my knees up to my chest. I would be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little scared.
"What house do you think you'll be in?" I looked up at Urie, who was smiling at me and as I opened my mouth to say something, there was a thud outside and a bunch of laughter as someone cried out.
Jumping to their feet, everyone turned to the door as I slowly stood up last to follow. When Draco opened the door, there were two kids on the floor, both looking up as Dan and two other Slytherins pointed their wands at them. "You might as well jump off the train now." Dan was sneering and horrified, I took a step back as if he were speaking to me. "The Dark Lord will rid the world of filthy Mudbloods soon enough!"
"Adandri!" Jakoba looked horrified at his brothers actions and as Dan turned to sneer at his little brother, the two kids on the floor snuck off.
"Damn it, Jakoba. Can't you just mind your own damn business!" Dan yelled and his younger brother glared at him.
"No! What would mother think if I told her you were bullying muggleborns?" He sneered with a laugh.
"It's none of her business what I do at school."
"It is if you don't want to be cut off!" Jakoba countered and in anger, Dan raised his wand towards his brother but before he could do anything, he stumbled and as his wand flew from his hand, Jakoba turned and looked at Ian.
"How dare you!" Ian roared. "Just wait until father hears about this!" I looked at Jakoba as he stood in shocked fear, having never thought Dan would really try to attack him, it was only when Draco set a hand on Jakoba's arm that the boy started and turned away angrily. Though he only looked pissed off from the outside, I could tell that my best friend was trying his hardest not to cry and that for me was another reason to be scared. If a family that I thought was perfect was falling apart, maybe there was more for me to fear than I'd previously thought.
"Guys..?" We'd all gone back into the compartment and sat down when I decided to speak up and as everyone looked at me, I sucked in a breath. I hated having to do this, but I knew it was for my own protection. "Can you guys keep it between us that I'm a muggleborn? It's my first year and I don't want trouble." I couldn't meet anyone's eyes, the shame of having to ask for help like this was beginning to overwhelm me.
I just had to think of my survival in this jacked up world though, because this was nothing like the chronicles of Narnia.
"Yeah." It was Draco who spoke first, his steely blue eyes roaming from myself to Urie, then Jakoba. "I'll tell people you're an orphan but my family had your blood tested and it's pure. That'll hold a lot of weight with most purebloods."
I looked around and though Jakoba looked uncertain, he nodded with Urie and pulling out a piece of parchment and a quill I made them agree with their names so there was no misunderstandings.
The Wizarding World was a terrifying place to be right now and I had to be protected.
A/N: There is an explanation why Sam is not mentioned to be going to Hogwarts. Well, two- one, None of the characters here know him and two will be explained by Zander in a future chapter, so hang tight, loves.
Also, I'm still going through and editing and adding to all the previous chapters, so go check those out. I plan to completely redo and add to "memories" and keep going from there. Thanks so much for the support guys and don't forget to REVIEW!
