December
Dear Will,
I am so drunk right now. I had to go to a New Year's Eve party(Happy New Year, by the way), and I knew people would be all up on their significant other when the clock struck twelve. I knew it would remind me of missing you, so I got hammered.
It reminds me of our first New Year as a couple. I got convinced we would have our first kiss at midnight. I was super nervous. I had a few drinks to give me courage. I ended up throwing up all over Dustin's bed. Nancy picked me up about half an hour before midnight. I preferred our actual first kiss. That day at the school carnival was perfect.
I found out the identity of Dustin's girlfriend! It's Jane. It's not a hunch. I know! They confirmed it on Christmas. It started when Jane visited him during Labor Day weekend. Society tells me I should be mad that my best friend is dating my ex, but I'm not. I'm too in love with you to care. Besides, Jane and I only dated from middle school to the first year of high school. That was almost a decade ago. We all deserve to be happy.
I'm not writing this one paper. I'm writing this one my notes. I didn't bring any with me to this party. I'm also hiding out in the bathroom. Again, I didn't want to be present when everyone makeout at midnight. I've heard everyone yell Happy New Year. It should be safe to leave.
Happy New Year, Will Byers! The love of my life! My future husband! Did I type that? Eh, who cares; these letters are for me. I should head home and go to bed soon—time to call my Uber, aka Nancy.
Love, your boyfriend,
Mike
Mike exited his notes app. He noticed he had a new email. Mike made sure to clean out his emails every once in a while. He would typically ignore a new email, but he was too curious.
Mike
Don't try to trace this email. They will find you. I'm writing this to say goodbye. This goodbye is forever. You deserve to find love again after me. I love you, Mike, and I will never stop loving you.
Will
