Chapter one

August 30th 1991

Peggy grunted at the shaking of her shoulder. "Miss…" the voice was muffled and Peggy couldn't quite make it out as actual words. "Miss!" Peggy groaned and felt herself being sat up. "Miss are you alright can you hear me?" Peggy cracked her eyes open and was blinded by sunlight. She groaned again rubbing her forehead. "Someone get a healer over here if there is one." It was an older woman's voice,
"wh-where am I?" Her voice sounded off, too high pitched almost child-like. "Miss, you're diagonally. You must have hit your head quite hard when your portkey dropped you off "
Peggy twitched her nose and looked around, her vision starting to clear. She could see twittings and tatings, and ollivanders. She groaned again. I must be dreaming. The woman placed her hand on her forehead and frowned slightly.

"You're burning up, we best get you to a healer. Being as no one seems to be capable of finding one." She scoffed. She was wearing a dark green robe with a black hat. Peggy let herself be pulled upright and led to the side of the bustling ally. "what is your name dear?" Peggy clenched her face, her head pounding massively.
"that's alright dear, let's get you patched up first." She was led a few buildings down to a small parlor whose name she didn't catch, and then led inside. "Miss Delia are you in?" A portly woman with frizzy black hair peaked from around a shelf and grinned "Madame Tonks, what can I do for you?" The now identified woman who sounded familiar to Peggy gestured down to her.
"This poor dear was plopped right in the middle of diagon. I believe there was an issue with her portkey, she wasn't in the designated portkey area." The miss Delia looked Peggy up and down and pulled out a red wooded wand. "hold still dear " with a couple of waves a green mist fell over her for a brief moment before looking at her again. "Mild concussion, and some bruising, nothing this won't help!" A glass vial was placed to her lips and before Peggy could object it was eased down her throat. She coughed violently for a moment before her mind began to clear.

"wow…" she spoke softly, the two women smiled down at her. "now dear, can you remember your name?" Madame Tonks asked. Memories flooded her mind quickly and now she looked familiar, she looked just as Bellatrix had been described only kinder and laugh lines graced her nose and cheeks. "My name…" she whispered. She hated her name, it was a name her father called cruelly when he drank his body weight. A tingle in her mind caused it to spin again… "the date… what is the date?"
"Why it's august 30th, 1991 dear. Although a bit late I assume you're here to get your school supplies." Madame Tonks spoke kindly. This can't be real, but if it is a dream I can be whoever I want right? She thought for a moment only a split second before she grinned her cosplay would do just nicely for this dream. It was after all her dream. "G- Gallows, my name is Persephone Gallows."
"Well! It is a pleasure to meet you miss Gallows. My name is Andromeda Tonks, and this is Abigail Delia." She portly woman gave her a grin. "Mediwitch in training!" She boasted softly but with a child-like glee. "Now dear." Andromeda spoke rolling her eyes. "Do you have your money do we need to go to gringotts?" Persephone pursed her lip softly. She felt around her outfit, noticing right away it was 'muggle'. "I don't think I have any on me." She nodded softly and nodded for the door. "Bill me for the potion Delia!" Without waiting for a response, they walked out of the shop.

They walked swiftly through the crowds and approached the large white marbled building. Persephone looked up at it in awe. This dream is incredible she thought allowing her eyes to take in everything. The laughing magic folk chatting in small groups, to the smaller children gathering around a window chatting excitedly. The door was heavy though by magic, Persephone assumed, it opened easily for them.
The bank was mostly empty, only a few stood at various tellers. The goblins looked almost nothing like Persephone had imagined when she read the books. Their features were not over dramatized. In fact besides the pointed ears, teeth and slight tint of a brownish green skin, they seemed… normal in a way. Her mind puzzled over and over. They dressed sharply, looking almost like fae folk from early stories her mother would read her. The guards looked deadly. They stood in armour, their still forms holding menacing looking axes. Helmets shimmered in the natural light from windows one couldn't see from the outside. As though she knew all of what was before her, Andromeda took her to the open teller without a word.
Persephone raced again. She had read so many fanfictions of the goblins in this world, and decided to just give something a try. When Andromeda cleared her throat softly and gained the goblins attention she gestured to Persephone to speak.
She took a deep breath and steadied herself. "well met Teller, may your gold ever flow from your fallen enemies." She bowed her head ever so slightly never breaking eye contact with the goblins before her. There was silence, Andromeda looked worried for a moment before the goblins gave a wicked grin. "Well met witch. May the blood of your foes color your floors. How may Gringots help you today?" Andromeda let out a loud breath she failed to cover silently. "I'm afraid I woke up in the alley here and only know my name, I will need your assistance if you would be so kind sir " Persephone had no idea what she was doing, a bead of sweat dripped down her neck. "We can do this for you, but it will require some of your blood, and of course the fee " Andromeda quickly cleared her throat and told the goblin she would cover the fee for her. The goblin nodded and reached below the counter and pulled out a slip of parchment. Handing it to Andromeda which she quickly signed with the provided quill on the counter. "very well. Now I will not lie to you child. It will hurt, but the cut will heal itself after the process is done." Persephone held a shaky hand forward, and in a flash a blade slit her palm. She winced and hissed but quickly bit her tongue. What…it hurts ..you can't get hurt in your dreams right?! Her blood dripped into a saucer-like bowl and swirled into a green liquid which quickly flashed gold. Once the liquid returned to green he poured it over a much larger parchment. It absorbed almost instantly into the parchment then began to bleed ink onto it. The goblin glanced it over and raised an eyebrow softly. "Well, Miss Gallows, if you will follow me, there are some things to discuss." The goblin then looked to Andromeda. "You may wait here in the sitting area, if you wish." Persephone looked pleadingly to her and she smiled nodding. "I'll be here." With that the teller flipped his small sign to closed and beckoned her to follow.

The hall was large and marbled, strikingly white but bled into an almost blood red floor. The goblin was fast paced, but she kept up as long as she sped walked.
They came up on a simple solid wood door with a good plaque on it with the name BloodAx on it. The teller knocked three times in a slow deliberate hard knock. "Enter!" Came the voice from within. The teller opened the door and ushered Persephone inside. "she has arrived." The teller stated blankly and BloodAxe looked up from his papers. He sat at an elegant black wood desk, books and parchment stacked high on both sides, his eyes held an exhaustion she knew well from long nights of study. "Thank you Teller Axe Grind, you may go." Persephone felt a bit abashed for not asking the tellers name but quickly gave a curt bow to him, saying her thanks. The goblin again looked at her curiously, then responded in kind. "Good day Miss Gallows." Then quickly exited the room.
She stood for a moment unsure what to do before BloodAx motioned for her to sit in front of him. "I have heard much about you Miss Gallows." He began looking her up and down. "Me?" The goblin nodded. "Shall we say, a close friend of yours told us you would be coming, although we didn't truly believe it at the time." Persephone felt her skin prickle. A friend? "You see, time as the muggles say, is an illusion. As such time turners work but only for going backwards. The magical world has yet to figure out how to move it forward. Both in reality and in mindset." He grunted to himself. "you however were told to us by a person from the future. Sent us a parchment on a device like a time turners only… it went at least 20 years into the past, something we are unable to achieve." Persephone touched her forehead and rubbed the nose between her eyes. "I don't understand, this is a dream. It has to be. None of this is…is.. real."

"Oh it very much is reality " Blood Axe stood, a tail coat swished behind him as he rounded the desk to stand directly before her. "the letter also stated you wouldn't believe anything quite yet. But, as time is money I suggest we get to the point wouldn't you say?" She gave a hesitant nod. BloodAx read allowed from the parchment the teller had given him.

BloodAxe looked at Persephone with a curious eye, finally noticing her shocked expression. "There is more but that can be explained at a later date. We are unsure if your family has a title or not, frankly the vault is fairly new for the amount of money inside it."
"That's all mine? Seriously?" The goblin nodded and walked behind his desk once again. "Here is your vault key, money pouch, for a fee we can charm it to fill with however much money you need at the time. We can supply a muggle wallet for a fee as well to do the same with muggle currency." She nodded to both and was handed a quill to sign the two slips of parchment for the purchase. "Um, I have never written with a quill before…" the goblin smiled at her, an unnerving feeling washed over her at the sight of it. "Just try your best." After a blotch or two was removed by a wave of the goblins hand, he had the two slips and pulled out what looked to be a pouch, and a simple black leather wallet with a gold G on it's center. "while holding the pouch or wallet with your left hand, think of what you need and pull it out with your right. Until you master the art of it of course."

Persephone took the items and carefully put the wallet in her pocket and tied the leather straps of the pouch around her belt loop. Once she had her robes it would be easier to conceal it. "unless you allow someone access to your vault, only you will be able to pull money out of your trust vault. Others will simply get leprechaun gold and we will know right away."
"Will you be my account manager?" She simply asked. BloodAxe looked shocked by the question. "Well no, no one is assigned your account at the moment. And I am only in research and new accounts." Persephone cocked her head slightly. "but if I asked, you could be?" Again the goblin seemed shocked. His mouth twitched and he looked unsure. "well, I am not certain. That would be a promotion for me, most magical just wait to be assigned one."
"Well if you are free, I would like you to be in charge of my account. Help me with investments and the like." Persephone stated simply. BloodAxe bowed his head deep. A look of pure gratitude filled his every feature as he looked at the young girl in front of him. "If it can be done it will. You will receive a bank statement within two weeks. This statement will include the name of your account manager. Now I must insist you get your school supplies. And while others will seek simplicity, I suggest you seek a bit more than that. Good day Miss Gallows and may your gold stack high and deep."

Persephone stood and bowed. "Good day Account manager BloodAxe, may your enemies tremble in your wake." She gave him a smirk. One that reminded him of a young boy with shaggy black hair a long time ago. Persephone exited to find Madame Tonks waiting patiently for her, sipping a cup of tea. "Mrs. Tonks?" She spoke as she approached. "Oh good dear, any trouble?"
"No ma'am."
"Do you have your school supplies?"
She shook her head. "Very well, let's get you fitted first, it take the longest."

After two hours, Persephone's arms were tired. She had a stack of books, most of which she didn't need right away but the titles caught her eye. Like 'staffs and wands, the difference.' she looked at Madame Tonks who only smiled at her antics. "why don't we get you a trunk? Make it easier for you?" She chuckled. The door clinked with a bell as they walked in, a short man gave them a happy smile. "Welcome! A school trunk I take it?" He ushered Persephone over to the trunks. Some as simple as you could get, basic redwood with initials added, the Hogwarts crest prominent. As she walked down the row they got more elaborate and beautiful. Her eyes landed on a solid black trunk, wheels and handle able to tuck safely within it, an added feather weight charm, a library compartment, a stasis potion compartment, a stasis food and beverage compartment, a wardrobe, a broom closet and school compartment.

It had a dial and a password lock charm. Her eyes lit up in excitement. "guaranteed to last 30 years or more?" She read the small tag again. "Yes Miss. It is expensive though, much too much for a school trunk." She gave the man a soft look, then turned to Madam Tonks. "Would you say that buying a better quality trunk that will last is better than having to buy two or three school trunks over the course of the school years? Having to buy larger ones for the school supplies you would need?" Madame Tonks eyed the girl. "Well yes, but wouldn't you rather spend your money on other things?"
"According to BloodAx, I should be just fine to get this and all my supplies, even a pet." Madame Tonks nodded to her. "If you wish. It's your money." A quick clinking of coins and an embroidery paint spell later, she was the owner of said trunk. PG proudly on the lid and side, books stored in the library compartment. "I really hate to be a bother Madame Tonks. And I apologize for not addressing you correctly this whole time." Andromeda gave a soft chuckle. "I am known as both. My husband is muggleborn and I spend a lot of time in the muggle world." Persephone smiled. "Oh good! Because after this…I need help with one other thing."

"What's that dear?"
"Well the goblins don't know who my family is, the test thing never said. So I only have what I'm wearing. I need muggle clothes too. maybe a mitt and ball set for activity." Her eyes lit up and a sinister smile crawled over her lips. Persephone instantly regretted opening her mouth. Ollivander's stood directly in front of Persephone and she grinned. Time to get a wand. An actual wand! Quickly before Madame Tonks even attempted to follow she rushed in. the door chimed just like in the trunk store and a man's voice called out. "just a moment!" Persephone took that time to look around. Wand boxes littered everywhere, parchment and scorch marks, the place was a complete mess.

"Ah! Hello! Heading for Hogwarts are we?" She nodded slightly disgruntled by the animated man who bounded over. "Now, which is your wand hand?" Persphone shrugged. " I am ambidextrous if that helps any?" He gave her a blank stare. "I can write and use both hands equally." His face lit up. "Ah! I see! Now hold still." After having everything in the history of man measured, he began to pull boxes and set them on his somewhat clear counter. "Holly and dragon heart string. Swishy." He spoke handing her a darker wand. Nothing, cold. "Yew…. Rose…. Oak…. Ceder .." ollivanders grew more and more excited the more wands didn't accept her. A few spat out tiny sparks or glowed pitifully but nothing was working. "Mmm yes, it seems to me I'll have to make one. I haven't made a wand in at least 10 years! Oooh this is exciting! Let's see. Hmmm based on your ability to utilize both hands, your stance, yes that could work." He grew to a mumble as he walked around the shop picking up odd jars and blocks of wood. One at least five feet long. Continuing to mumble to himself he sat the samples down after begrudgingly shoving the mess off the counter and onto the floor.

"Wood first miss?"
"Sorry I am so rude. I am Persephone Gallows."
"Ah! Any relation to Hadias Gallows?"
"Erm…I don't have any idea. I don't know who my family is just my name." Curiously he looked her up and down again before sliding the samples of wood closer. "I want you to feel each wood, touch it hold it whatever you need to do, see if any calls to your very core. Like a vibration or song." Cocking an eyebrow Andromeda watched the girl pick up each block. She went over a few of them a couple of times before she touched the largest sample on the desk. She froze.

"It...it feels like my arm was touched by a close friend, like my heart beat into the wood." A smiling ollivander picked up the large sample block and cleared the rest away. Next he placed out jar after jar on the counter. "Same thing. Now Miss Gallows."

An hour later and nothing was connected to her. She sighed in dejection. "Perhaps you have a familiar?" Ollivander asked hopefully. "I have yet to go get a pet or familiar. I wanted to get my wand first." He nodded his head. "well, I suggest you go pick a friend, I'll see if I have more samples down below, it might take me a few moments to locate them." The two witches left the store, a supportive hand on Persephone's shoulder. "Don't worry he will find something." A sad nod of her head lead them into Magical Menagerie.
Soft noise filled Persephone's ears and she slowly began to smile. Owls hooted, cats meowed and some other creatures chirped or hissed. She began to circle around the different pens and cages, looking at all sorts of cats, snakes, and owls. She refused to look at the toads. Not her thing. Yuck! A sorrowful deep guttural mow was heard and she instantly turned for it. It was solid black, eyes a deep green that shines with unshed moisture. The maw was angular but square. Persephone's eyes lit up and her face curved into a mystical smile. She took careful steps to the heavy barred cage. All around it in bright red warning tags, it read ' dangerous, will bite' she slowly lowered into a squat and looked at the animal within. It had a thick black tail that thumped softly at its tip, its ears were drawn back slightly in fear, teeth peeking over lips. "Hey it's ok little guy." Her voice made the small creature look at her with its head slightly bowed. "I won't hurt you. You're such a handsome boy." She continued to speak softly, the creature inside slowly inched closer. "That's it, it's ok, I won't hurt you." Gently she put the back of her palm to the cage and the creature sniffed it a few times before beginning to vocalise more. "See? I won't hurt you little guy." Without permission or approval, she unlocked the cage door and held her hand out to him again. The creature sniffed her again then nuzzled his head on her palm. "Come on then, let's get you out of here ok? You can be my best friend if you want too." The creature now curled up in her arms could be fully seen. His pelt was almost solid black save for the slightly lighter shade of black spots that covered his body. His paws were large and dangerously sharp. "H-how did you do that? He's been a menace to all the employees since we got him!" Persephone gave a calm smile. "He just wants to be loved and shown he won't be hurt, if I'm correct he is way too young to be away from his mother." The man coughed and looked away. "He's a Jaguar cub from the rainforest born from the magical pride there." "Pride?" "Well I don't know! That's what they called it!" Persephone cuddled the little cub closer. "He's magical?" The man nodded. "He can change size when he is full grown. Blend into the shadows and track just about anything. Though I will admit you're the first in a long time to be able to just…hold one!" Persephone glanced down at the ball of fluff and saw it had dosed off. "I'll take him."

After a good amount of coin had gone and she had a basket plus toys and treats, they made their way back to ollivanders. Said man was mumbling over three jars but smiled when they walked in. "Ah! Good. I have three final jars for you too…" then his eyes caught sight of the cub. "Sweet Merlin, is that?" "A magical jaguar cub? Yes." Spoke Madam Tonks. Ollivander smiled brightly and leaned a little closer but not too close. "I believe if your cub is willing, you may have a core for your wand." Persephone looked down at the cub and nuzzled his ear to rouse him. "What would you need?" Ollivander rubbed his chin as the cub looked him over before grunting. "A whisker if he is willing." She looked down at the cub and touched a whisker. He didn't move and only started in her eyes. With a quick plink she pulled it out with only a slight huffing from the cub before he tried to bury himself back into her chest. She carefully handed the whisker over to ollivander who smiled. "Excellent! Give me a few hours if you please." Then he vanished behind his shelves. "Well, I say we get some lunch then go get those clothes you need. We can shrink your trunk and basket and out them in your pocket. Your cub however will need to be disillusioned when we go out into London." Persephone nodded and followed the witch out into the ally on e again.

The shopping in the muggle London was faster than they thought. After she received several new outfits, under things and shoes, they also picked up some sporting equipment, a football, a frisbee, a couple of baseball mitts and some balls. they returned to the leaky cauldron and sat at one of the many empty tables. "I should see if I can get a room for the night, so I can get to the train easier tomorrow." Persephone spoke calmly, but Madam Tonks frowned. She had grown to like this girl quickly and just as quickly she shot that idea down. "No, you'll stay with us. My daughter is in her last year, and you'll be able to get to the platform easier." She left no room for debate with a heated glare. "Ok…thank you Madame." After a quick and light tea, they walked back into ollivanders. There were flashes of different colors in rapid succession before an excited exclamation was heard. "I've done it!" Madam Tonks gave her a slight eye roll but smiled. A smudged and sooty ollivander walked briskly to the counter. "I have your wand ready and a little something extra." Swiftly he pulled out a long wooden box. "African blackwood, eleven inches. Slightly stiff with a temperament. Good for potions and defence. Now as to the rest." He softly handed the wand over where warmth and a glow illuminated her face. "Good, now this." He dramatically swished from behind the counter. "is a staff base. Your wand shall slip in here and once it does they will merge until you release it. It will cast easier for your ability." The African blackwood staff base was beautifully carved in intricate knots that were woven and created a beautiful pattern. "It's beautiful Mr ollivander." Persephone gawked. The staff was slightly warm but still cool to the touch, if she wanted she could put an ornament on the base of the handle and make it a cane, like the movie luscious had held. "I am pleased you like it!" He handed her the wand box. "Now a standard wand would have been 11 gallions, but this custom wand and staff base, I'll only ask 12." He had a sparkle in his eye. "For the challenge." She paid and they walked out of the shop and to the apparition point. "Let's get you to my home and be ready for the train tomorrow." And with a crack, they vanished.

Persephone collapsed to the floor fighting the rising vomit in her throat. Madam Tonks only chuckled. "You'll get used to it young Gallows." Persephone met and ate with the other two Tonks's and enjoyed their company. Nymphadora don't say my name Tonks fell instantly for the jaguar cub and played with him as much as she could, much to her mother's chagrin. Persephone's eyes began to droop, and she was ushered to the guest room and left to ready herself for bed. The bed was soft and she sunk in, the gruff of her cub came from beside her chest his face in her armpit. "I still need to name you. I think I'll name you…hmmm Hades." The cub gruffled and snuggled closer. With a sleepy smile she drifted off to sleep.
