Totally Spies IS NOT mine
It was surreal to think she was an actual mother. Having, finally, little Gabe in her arms was the most wonderful feeling ever and she just couldn't believe how beautiful was the little boy she was lucky enough to call son.
"He's so cute!' Alex said while touching the baby cheeks. Clover walked to the penthouse, opening the door. Gabriella helped her daughter and grandson, opening the car's door. Carefully, Sam got out of the car, making sure to hold the little child properly.
"You'll get used to it' Sam looked at her mother, who was smiling at her.
Since birth, Sam had been learning a lot of things from her. The way to hold him was her biggest concern at the moment. He looked so fragile and small that she feared she could hurt him at any moment.
"I know" It would be a lot easier with Tim there "He's been in this world for only two days and I can't imagine my life without him"
"I understand" Sam walked to the penthouse with her mother and Alex by their side and with little Gabe peacefully asleep in her arms. The baby made a little noise when they entered the place he would be calling home. The red-headed spy assumed he felt the warmness surround him.
"Welcome home, sweetie!" Clover exclaimed. Gabe stayed in his peaceful state while the adults looked at him, lovingly. "Is he asleep?
"Yes" Sam walked to the nursery and laid little Gabe in the crib "I'll wait for him to wake up; I need to feed him soon"
"You talk like a mother already" Sam smiled at Clover
"Well, I am one"
"We're going to make lunch; Sam, you should rest before he wakes up" Alex guided her to the rocking chair next to the crib "We got everything under control"
"That's why we're getting take-out." Clover said "We'll be back soon; let's go, Alex" The two best friends left shortly after, leaving mother and daughter alone.
Gabriella was still adjusting to the idea of being an actual grandma. It wasn't the actual idea of being an old lady, it was more about the whole picture of her becoming one. She never thought her Sam would get pregnant before marriage, left alone the baby's father would be an international criminal who was in jail. But even with those "issues", she couldn't be happier. When he saw the new parents with her grandson, she knew everything would be fine. Somehow, she felt that her daughter and Tim would be perfectly fine with little Gabe, even though, the distance. She still had her reserves about her daughter's boyfriend, but, honestly, she had no choice other than keep giving him a chance to prove himself. For the moment, he was behaving so he hoped for the best outcome.
"Is anything wrong, mom?"
"Not at all; I was just...thinking"
"About…?
"Nothing in special" She didn't want to worry her daughter with her thoughts. She knew she was already thinking about the same things as her. She just gave birth and was facing it, in a way, alone. There was no way she was going to put more stress on her. "Did he wake up?
"Yes," Sam answered, looking at her son "but he was so peaceful that I didn't want to disturb him" With the tenderness that only a mother could have, Samantha caressed the tiny leg of her son through the crib's bars. The baby, moved by the sudden tender touch, started to make little noises as a way to get some attention. "He's hungry" she didn't ask. She confirmed with all the conviction she had. Her baby was only a couple days old and she already felt what he needed from her. She got him out of the crib and went to the rocky chair. When he felt the known warm of his mom, the baby stopped his movements and stared at her "Hi, sweetie" Gabriella, with a smile, saw how her daughter breastfeeding her grandson. It was tough at first because mother and son were still learning which was the best dynamic to this process, but at least, Sam was more confident about the whole situation and tried different positions until Gabe felt comfortable enough to eat. "There you go"
"Even as a mother, you're a fast learner" she smiled, looking at his mother
"Gabe makes it easier; he's been behaving great, or at least, for now," Her eyes went back to her son "but I think is temporary; he is Tim's son, after all". Both women laughed at the comment. "I wished he could be here"
Gabriella wished that too.
He had prepared mentally for his coming back to prison. He knew it would be difficult to leave Sam and Gabe after the birth, but dammit...It was even worse he could have anticipated. He missed them, a lot and the thought of Sam alone, taking care of his precious baby boy, was killing him. Before Sam, he never thought about being a parent, but at the moment, he couldn't conceive the idea of not being one. He instantly fell in love with his little champion so, for him, it was hard, almost painful, the fact he wasn't there with him and Sam
"Scam"
Tim looked at his visitor. He wasn't so shocked to see Jerry there. He knew he would come eventually.
"Jerry"
"I'm sorry, are you in a bad mood?" asked the man with clear angry in his voice
"Kind of" Tim responded "I'm here while my girlfriend and son are out there. On top of it, I'm with the man who was coward enough to not go to the birth of a baby that technically, is his grandson"
Jerry looked at him with surprise. He wasn't expecting that kind of comment from him. He knew Tim was right, even if he didn't want to admit it.
"I don't know what are you talking about"
"Of course you do…" he replied "Listen: I don't care if you hate me, but Sam and Gabe haven't done anything to you. The least you could have done was to visit them and congratulate the woman you practically helped to raise
"You do not have the right to talk to me like that! You are a criminal
"I'm Sam's boyfriend and Gabe's father; I'm not going to let anyone hurt them" he replied with an apparent calm" You, by being immature, hurt her feelings…
"That's nothing of your business"
"Of course it is" For a brief moment, the men stayed silent, one of them, refusing to admit the other man was right." I've been very patient with you, trying to understand that you need some time to accept the idea of our relationship, but it's been too long and I need to protect them"
"From what"
"From you" Jerry froze "If you don't want to be part of her life, tell her and leave her alone, but don't play with her feelings...she doesn't deserve your toxic attitude" At that point, Tim didn't care what Jerry thought about him. He was pissed with his behavior; it was difficult enough to handle all the responsibility of Gabe practically by herself so the fact that Jerry was adding unnecessary stress over her shoulders was something he could not permit. He wanted this man to understand how Sam cared about him, it was like a father to her. How can he be that blind about the situation? "What? Are you going to say something?" Tim was expecting an outburst from him, after all, his least favorite person on the world gave him a lecture, but no, with surprise, Tim listened to the footsteps, getting far away.
Tim didn't know if he needed to be pissed or worried.
The day passed by quickly and Sam couldn't believe how easy was to take care of her son. She got home with fear, thinking she wouldn't be able to take care of him alone, but in that instant, it was forgotten; her motherly instinct was on point. She was aware that only was the beginning, but at least, she proved to herself she was capable of doing everything for her and her son.
"Sammy, dinner is almost ready" she heard Clover from the kitchen. She took Gabe from the crib and went to the living room. "Hey, handsome!"
Clover smiled at the baby and picked his cheek.
"Hi, auntie Clover!" said Sam, turning so Clover could see the little sleepy face.
"I thought he was sleeping"
"He was, but apparently, he wants to have dinner with mommy and auntie." Sam said "Besides, I don't feel comfortable leaving him alone for too long" she put him in the baby carrier over the table and sit there.
"I need to admit that I thought he would be a trouble, but no, it's like he's not even here"
"I know, but this is the beginning; maybe he's adjusting to his new home"
Clover nodded, taking a bite of his food.
"So... how it feels like?"
"What?"
"To be a mother" Sam smiled
"It feels wonderful"
"For real?"
"Yes; It's a bit scary, but when I look at him, everything seems to fit"
"Are you scared about all the changes? I mean, a lot of things are going to change, your priorities are now involved with Gabe, and without Tim... "Clover sighed "I don't mean to stress you, but I'm concern about you two, you know"
"Thanks; I've been thinking about it since I found out I was pregnant" Her pregnancy was a period where she thought about the future. Her baby was her priority since day one so she wanted to assure his well-being, taking into consideration Tim's situation in jail. "I appreciate you're worried about us"
"You know we will be always here for you two, right?" she smiled
"I know, but Gabe is not your responsibility; it's mine and Tim's" explained "We appreciate all you're doing to help us, but, at the end, we're his parents; we're the ones supposed to protect him, to take care of him...to assure he's healthy and happy…" She looked at his son, smiling at him "Nothing else matters to me right now"
Nothing was easy, but she was determinate to not let the world crush her. She had a son; it's not about her or Tim anymore, it was about Gabe and she wanted everyone to understand that.
"It's been only a few days since he was born and you're already a great mother, Sammy"
Sam smiled.
Gabe's cry woke her up. The clock was marking 2:45 a.m. and apparently, her son was hungry. She got up from the bed and rushed to the nursery room where little Gabe claimed for attention.
"It's ok, sweetie; I'm here." said, looking at his son in the crib. She took him in arms and went to the rocking chair. "Are you hungry, love?" she opened her nightdress and put the crying baby in a position where she could be able to have a nice hold to feed him. When he, finally, got what he wanted, he ceased her crying and started to eat, looking at her mother. "There you go…" The feeling was still weird, but she was getting used to it. "You were hungry…" His nursery was beautiful, but at the moment, she was questioning if it was the best to leave him there overnight. "What do you think of sharing a room with mommy? It would be fun" In the morning, she would ask her friends to help her with moving the crib to her room so it would be easier to take care of him at night, at least for a few months until she could feel sure of leaving him alone. When she felt her son moved a little in her arms, she took him to make him burp.
In the meanwhile, Sam thought about Tim. Was he missing them as much as her? The goodbye at the hospital still haunted her. It was painful to watch how it hurt him to leave Gabe behind. Even if she wanted to visit him more often, Gabe was too young to be admitted to WOOPS prison. The visit request was sent but Jerry hadn't answer. She sighed. Jerry was another scenario that stressed her. She was ready to accept he lost him forever. Sam could not be related to someone who despite the most important person in her life, her son; with not going to his birth, it was more than clear that was the case.
Gabe burped, bringing Sam back from her thoughts. She fixed her clothes and stayed there, looking at Gabe's bright green eyes.
He wasn't going to sleep soon.
"We'll be right back, Sammy" announced Alex, leaving the penthouse with Clover.
"Take care!" it was a bright morning so Alex and Clover decided it was perfect to go shopping. The refrigerator was almost empty and the two girls could not let that happen in the presence of the new mother. "Ok, honey; it's just you and me now; be a good boy while mommy does some chores, ok? said the redheaded girl to his son, who looked at her with some kind of curiosity. The doctor told her she needed to rest for a least a week to recover from that long birth process, but Sam wasn't the kind of person who enjoyed to be doing nothing. Sam and Clover have been doing everything since they came home from the hospital; the least she could do was to help at home. "There's not a lot to do here" She took some magazines that were spread on the floor, moved around some cushions and do some dishes while little Gabe, followed every move from here with his curious eyes. When she finished, Sam sat in front of the baby and looked at him, receiving the full attention of his son "You're Tim's mini-version" she said while caressing his little finger.
The doorbell rang.
Immediately, Sam looked at the door. She wasn't expecting anyone and the persons that could be had keys. In a red alert, because she was alone with her son, Sam got up and went to the door. "Who is it?" Nobody responded. she didn't want to be paranoid, but with Tim's past, her career as a spy and the news of Gabe's birth, she couldn't discard any kind of possibility. She assured all windows around her son, in case someone was there, waiting for her to get him, and went to the door. He opened slowly and froze in place when he recognized the person standing there. "You…"
"Hi, Samantha" the girl stayed silent, not because she didn't want to talk to him, it was more about the shock that caused her to see him there.
"Hi…"
"I brought you the permission; you can go visit Tim anytime you want with…
"Gabriel" completed the woman "His name is Gabriel Mason Scam, but we called him Gabe"
"It's a beautiful name" the tension was clear in the air. Neither of them knew what to say next. Even if he didn't want to admit it, Tim was right in every single thing he told him; It's been almost a year since he found out about the pregnancy, the baby was already born and he still couldn't get over it. Samantha was like a daughter to him so, maybe, he overreacted with the thought of her being pregnant with such a criminal as Scam. In the end, neither Sam nor the kid should be blamed when his problem was always with Tim.
"Do you...want to come in? she asked, not sure about it "He's awake"
"With pleasure"
He entered the penthouse, finding the baby carrier in the process. Jerry froze for a brief moment, not knowing what to expect next. Sam took Gabe in arms. Still hesitating, Jerry stayed in place, not knowing what to do or what to say.
"You can come closer; he's not going to bite you" There were a lot of things she wanted to discuss with him but for the moments, the only thing she considered important was to introduce her son to him. "Sweetie, this is Jerry" Gabe's little green eyes were concentrated in the man in front of him.
"Nice to meet you, Gabriel" the situation was kind of awkward for both of them. The red-headed spy wanted to change that. It's been months since she had a decent conversation with him so, having him there, was a chance she couldn't let pass.
"Do you...want to hold him?" Jerry froze.
"I don't know...I haven't held a baby in a while…"
"It's ok; I'll be around" Jerry sat on the couch and waited, notoriously nervous, for her. Carefully, Samantha placed her son in Jerry's arms. "Hold his head...there you go" It was surreal to see him like this, with Gabe in his arms, but Sam couldn't be happier, especially, when she saw how Jerry smiled to him.
"He looks a lot like Scam," he said with a smile on his face, surprising her. Jerry raised her head and looked directly at her "I didn't come just to bring you the permission"
"I know…"
Both of them knew that was the beginning of a conversation they should have had months ago.
