Two pieces

Total Spies IS NOT mine

The last two days of her life were chaotic to say the least. A sick baby was not a cooperative child. The virus gave a hard battle to let little Gabe alone. The young mother was hoping that, as they were going home, she could ask for a little help while she get some rest. Taking care of a sick child while working was not an easy task. She took all the remaining belongings spread over the hospital room while her son watched her every move from the bed. Sam looked at the innocent human being, waiting patiently for her on the bed. The smile he gave her when she finally approach him, made everything better. His tiny, but chubby arms, reaching to her.

"Yes, sweetie, we're going home." Little Gabe took a strong hold on her, resting his head over her shoulder. Her dad was making the final arrangements in reception so they could be discharge from the hospital. It took her two minutes to leave the room. When she reunited with her father, he tried to help her with the baby, but the child was not cooperating. Sam was not sure why his son was not a fan of his grandpa. Yes, she was aware that at some point, Daniel was not a fan of the situation, but he reconsidered and admitted he was wrong. It could not be possible that Gabe was like that because of an episode that happened when he was still in the womb.

At the end, she figured out how to manage her movements with Gabe on arms. Father and daughter talked the entire ride about what was next to the treatment. Alex and Clover will be out for the night in a WOOHP mission so Gabriella would be helping her while they're gone. Her mother was at the door, waiting for them. When the car stopped, the grandma ran to them immediately, taking her grandson on arms. Sam was relieved to be back to normal and that the nightmare from the health issue was over. However, the Tim situation remained the same. She was so focus on Gabe that had not the time to think about it, but as far as she understand from Clover, at least on the matter of time-sharing, everything would be better. The thing was that Sam was not finding the words to proper express herself. She didn't want to sound ungrateful, resentful or pronounced the words in a manner that could be perceived as an attack. It was a needed conversation to have. She shouldn't be having all those doubts about talking with her boyfriend.

"Are you OK, Sam?" The question from her mother, startled for a second. She nodded, forcing a smile.

"I'm just exhausted" It was partially true, she was using her last reserves of energy.

"It's OK, sweetie. Take a good bath and catch some sleep. I'll watch him"

"Are you sure?"

She got a yes as an answer. In half an hour, she was in her bed, just watching the ceiling until she fell asleep. She dreamed about Tim. Memories with him, from the beginning of their relationship. Idealization of the future she wanted for the both of them and Gabe. She imagined the three as a family on the cabin, far away from prison. Everything at peace, with freedom, being the unity she wanted and was working hard to create. Then, she woke up to her reality. Her body was relaxed, but her mind was an increasing storm. Her bedroom was dark; the clock confirmed it was almost Gabe's bedtime. She could hear her son in another room. Sleepy, but with the conviction that the rest time is over, Sam walked out from her room. Immediately, she spotted Gabe at his playground, trying to fit some shapes on their corresponding places.

"That was a long nap, wasn't it?" Gabriella's voice filled the room. She tried to smile, but Sam knew her try was fruitless when her mother gave her a worry look. "I see that the nap didn't help" Gabriella let the magazine she was reading aside. The older woman approached her grandson, sitting on the floor, next to him. By the action, the baby noticed her mother presence. Naturally, he raised his arms towards her. Of course, she took him gladly. "What is being bothering you? Gabe is not sick anymore"

"Thank God"

"So, what is the issue?" Sam was not sure if it would be in her best interest to tell her mom about her doubts. "It's about Tim" The silence confirmed her statement. "What happened?"

"Nothing"

"Samantha"

"Nothing, mom, I'm serious. That's the issue"

"I'm not following you," Gabe claimed for her attention for brief seconds, looking for her mother's embrace. He was ready to go to sleep.

"I've being thinking…about our relationship"

"In a bad way?"

"In all the ways. I'm just…wondering what is next for us"

"For a particular reason?"

"Just a change of perspective. Seeing Gabe every day, growing, exploring, and being happy…make me think more about our partnership. I just wonder how it will be when he's with us. We just tried this dynamic from the distance, maybe when he's out…"

"Well, he loved both of you. That's a good sign." Sam smiled sadly.

"Sometimes, love is not enough. And…I'm scare that…it can be our case when he's out." Gabriella knew that moment would come. It was not easy to have this kind of relationship with a kid in between, especially, if the distance was because of a prison sentence. It was only natural to have those questions at some point. However, Gabriella was sure that those two would be fine. Her daughter loved that man, and she confirmed that Tim felt the same way. They just needed to figure it out how to prevent the fear of the unknown consume them. With a reassurance smile, Gabriella gave her the honest advice that she never thought would gave to help a relationship that she never wanted to exist in the first place.

"Maybe love is not enough, but I know for sure that you two have made more than enough for this to work for a long run. We, having this conversation, is a sign of that." Sam looked at the baby peacefully asleep in her arms. He was the proof of their connection. In addition, the fact that others had no doubts about what is right and the future ahead of them, made her feel a little more secure. She hoped that the feeling maintained after talking with her boyfriend.

While he saw his son cry because he did not want to go with Clover, Tim felt nervous about the next step. He spend a full hour with Gabe, playing and bonding with the happiest baby ever, while Sam watched them with a shy smile on her face. She only intervened when Gabe's claimed for her attention, not wanting to steal his attention from his father. When the hour passed, as was requested, it will be the two of them, doing whatever they want, not as a parent, as a couple that need to talk and comprehend everything that have not being stablish explicitly.

"Come on, Gabe. I will get offended" was the last he heard from Clover before the door closed behind her. His attention was on his girlfriend, consuming the view of the gorgeous redheaded girl in front of him. Samantha had always been beautiful. With motherhood, her features looked even more exquisite. He cannot deny how much in love he was with her, that's why he was so anxious about what could let the conversation we are about to have. Sam looked at him with a sad smile. He couldn't say a word before she approached him. The hug was unexpected.

"I missed you" Tim hugged her back.

"I missed you even more" he replied when the affection was over. He sat on the chair behind him and insisted her to take his legs as furniture. She complied, watching his eyes glow when they found hers. "I'm glad to have this moment. We…"

"Needed" completed the girl. Tim only nodded, waiting for her next words. "I missed feeling that we are a couple, not just Gabe's parents. Don't take me wrong, I love him to death, it's just…"

"I understand. I miss the intimacy too" It wasn't only the business between the sheets, it was everything from the small talks to their kisses session. They missed the little things they shared.

"I just…feel like we don't even talk about us. Sometimes, I…I don't even know if I'm up to date with what's new on you routine or what you want or if..."

"I want both of you. I want to be the family we want to be, getting a job or start something by my own. I'm aware it will be difficult because of my past, my now questionable record, but not impossible." He caressed her cheek. "Marry you, see Gabe grows up and maybe, if you are OK with that, having more kids" She knew they were in a serious relationship, still is a relief to hear him, talking about plans.

"Tim…"

"And if…you don't feel like…this is working, that we are not able to fix it alone or…if it's not what you expected, we can try counselor, I know we can figure this out. We just need to…" He stopped when her hand found his; eyes never departed from each other.

"You're willing to go to counseling? The great and proud Tim Scam is admitting the possibility that he may need help?"

"Everything for us" She was so touch by his words. He had her past, changed and wanted to be the best version he could for the three of them. She needed it to hear him said that they were on the same page and would move on along with her to make all work. She kissed him, slow and passionate; she didn't remember when was the last time they kissed like that. Just to feel loved that way, was more than enough, was more than refreshing, was pure hope for them. "I mean it" was his next sentence after they broke the kiss.

"I know."

"I promise we will have these spaces for us. To discuss the future, to talk, to kiss, just…be together. We are important too." She cannot be gladder about the turn out of the situation. She knew her doubts would be gone as time went on and they had the opportunity to delve into the details of their relationship, but for that moment, she felt more in peace, knowing that she loved a wonderful man that loved her back. It was their first visit with the new strategy; they only introduced the matter, getting to know the expectation of what was about to coming. It was their first date in a long time. Not the regular date with flowers and special place, it wasn't intended to be that way. The embrace, the kisses, the sweet words…In that moment, they only needed to enjoy the intimacy they craved for, at least, the beginning of the whole. Failing to each other, was not an option.
