A/N: Firstly, I just want to apologize for the long absence. I was finishing up my semester of college and then became ill for about a week. It didn't feel that long ago since the last update but before I knew it we'd already crossed halfway into May, haha. Fear not... Dragon Rage is back!

TheJSmooth - Hello and welcome to the story! Natsu/E.N.D is going to definitely be a force to be reckoned with once they merge! You can bet on that. Thank you so much! I've really enjoyed writing Natsu and Lucy's development and hope you enjoy reading what I have in store for them in this chapter. It's a long one, prepare yourself, haha!

CrazySly - Welcome to the story as well! DR is my first attempt at pacing romance throughout the story. Every chapter I am learning Natsu and Lucy's thoughts along with you all. Actual developed stories are way different than one-shots! Glad to hear you're enjoying it!

Guest - Thanks for the review and hope you love this chapter just as much!

TaraPasty - Welcome back TP! Throughout this chapter I kept coming back to this review and several others on the AO3 side. I wanted to do several things but ended up cutting them out because I felt it was either too rushed or too sudden, ya know? Reaching this point of the story is a blessing but also a curse somewhat. Primarily because this is where I've wanted to take DR all along and I'm hoping the previous eleven chapters have set up everything needed leading into this one. Look forward to hearing your response and hope these next 11,000+ words make your day!

Dragon Rage recently reached over 100 followers and is almost at 100 favorites! It also just hit 10,000 views! Thank you to everybody for your kind comments, favorites, and support. It means a lot and I really do appreciate every single one of you who read this story. ENDjoy! - See what I did there? ;)

Chapter 12: Emperor Spriggan

Dark piercing eyes trailed down the cliff to the flowing river that waited long below for its next victim. It was full of life and he imagined it had taken many too. The howling wind warped around him and tossed the edges of his robe about. He understood why the ferocious monster would want to resign in such a place. Territory that would never be disturbed by outsiders and held total peace. He reached the entrance to the cavern. Bracing himself, the man walked casually through the rocky terrain and was intrigued by the dagger-shaped landscape. The cave sported a bluish-black base coloring that he thought corresponded perfectly with the Black Dragon's image.

Acnologia sat on his throne of bones slightly smirking. He had sensed the black-haired man's arrival halfway up the mountain and freely welcomed the cursed wizard into his domain.

"I like the view. It's rather pleasant." Zeref said in greeting.

"You actually showed."

"The pleasure is all mine. Although I can't conceal my wonders any longer that you not only agreed to discuss things with me but aren't in your usual dragon form."

The blue and black dragon that terrorized land and people whenever he pleased was laying dormant. That destructive beast idled and allowed his true self, a human who had the powers to slay dragons, to be seen for once. His skin had gotten darker since the original transformation that had taken place and some of those draconic features carried over to his human side. The blue markings normally on him when he was a dragon were resembled on the outer portions of his face. They were almost like tattoos. His dark blue hair held a wild appearance that correlated perfectly with his personality. A necklace with five distinct claws was wrapped around his neck, each one was viewed as a prize of his favorite kills. The only one missing was a certain crimson dragon which would of made it six.

"Would you rather me be?"

"No, this will do just fine. How's your arm healing by the way?"

The mention of his hindrance made the corrupted dragon slayer growl. He had come out victorious and slain the last of the dragons in hiding, but that victory came at a price. The cost was the loss of his entire left arm. Acnologia had been successful though in eradicating the fire dragon and now donned the moniker as the dragon king.

"You know my brother wants you dead. Your killing of Igneel has really angered him as I'm sure you already know."

"I was defending myself from that pest."

"Were you not the aggressor?"

"Black Wizard... what is it that you want?"

Zeref remained unfazed by the glare being sent his way or the chilly air that encompassed the spacious cavern. Acnologia's dark gaze was enhanced by his equally blue eyes that were shadowed.

"I would like some answers to put my mind at ease for a little while. You crave destruction and yet you hardly proceed on with it. If you so desired you could use your monstrous power to bring this entire world down onto its knees. So, why haven't you? It's unclear to me the reasoning for your hesitation." Zeref pondered aloud.

"The same could be said for you."

"How so? To be completely honest with you Acnologia, my indecision is why I've kept myself out of the fray so far. I struggle to choose between siding with the humans and battling you or would allying with you against the humans better suit my needs?"

"You believe I would ever align myself with a human?" The Black Dragon smirked dangerously.

"Fear not, after weighing my interests I have decided I am on neither side. The humans nor you would benefit me should I side with either party. Each side are only obstacles in my way that I plan to eventually deal with. That's why both you and mankind will be wiped out." He paused for a moment and slipped out a small smile. "What do you think on the matter? You have been waiting for a serious challenge, correct?"

"That is what I want."

"Then I will be the one to bring that to you. The world will bear witness. A human, a dragon, and an immortal. They will constitute this final battle."

"Your demon. That is the one I want."

"I have many demons Acnologia." Zeref spoke with some amusement laced in his words.

"Don't play me for a fool. The flame one. He will be my challenge."

"No, I am afraid he is off limits. I will give you the fight you desire." Zeref shook his head openly.

"You stand no chance against me, Black Wizard. Your flame demon is different than the rest of your creations. For that, he is dangerous."

"E.N.D is my greatest work after all. I would be disappointed if he was viewed as any lesser than that."

"You can have your war with the humans." Acnologia laughed aloud. "All I want is to exterminate your demon."

The hybrid dragon did not miss the abundance of dark energy that circled around the two of them. Blue eyes remained steely. Zeref was enraged with the cunning blue-haired shapeshifter.

"I regret to inform you that I no longer have any reason to remain here."

"Running away already?"

"Make no mistake Acnologia you will join this war of your own free will. When that time comes... my demon will be waiting. Starting now your days are numbered. I can assure you that E.N.D will be successful in slaying his winged nemesis and you will be pulverized."

A bright flash illuminated the cavern as the dragon king vaporized the spot that his guest had previously occupied. But Zeref was long gone before the blast ever arrived.

Lucy could barely contain her excitement on the return trip back home. Last night had felt like a total dream and when she awoke she was afraid to discover if what she thought happened had actually occurred. Wendy and Erza had arrived earlier in the morning and left a note that stated the two of them were headed back to Magnolia and would be waiting for them with the rest of their friends. She sincerely hoped her letters had reached those who were close in the area... and she hoped they would want to return to their guild.

Coffee with Hisui in the early hours opened her foggy mind and quickly sped up her heartbeat. The blonde had somehow built up the courage to explore a future with the dense dragon slayer that she cherished. Better yet, he actually reciprocated those feelings! Her fears were put to rest the moment he walked through the door to greet them and grab himself a bite to eat. Natsu chatted casually with the Crown Princess, but when he turned and faced her it was like his entire brain had shut down on him. She was positive his cheeks had gained a tint of red in the process too!

Hisui couldn't suppress the giggle that escaped and it only went further after his questioning stare. She waved his confusion aside and explained that a funny joke had come to mind in that moment. What she didn't explain was the joke had to deal with him. While his face was stuffed with food, the two women shared discrete looks and held their laughter. Even the future ruler of Fiore was amused by this new development.

The time to depart arrived soon after and while Natsu was eagerly describing his plans to Arcadios and King Toma, Lucy and Hisui intentionally lagged behind so they could have one last discussion.

"How are you feeling?" The King's green-haired daughter questioned with slight concern written clearly across her face.

"About what?" Lucy replied with some confusion evident.

"You know... about you and Natsu." She finally revealed after realizing her friend was sometimes just as clueless as the dragon slayer in question.

"What about us?"

"Well, your relationship is going to change right?"

"I suppose so." Lucy answered with a slight huff. That got Hisui's attention.

"Suppose?"

"This is Natsu we're talking about. We kissed, yeah... I just still don't know exactly where we stand right now." The Celestial mage revealed as she frowned before removing it. "But I'm hoping for the best."

"Well... just know that I'm rooting for both of you!" Hisui cheered and they embraced each other one last time. Unbeknownst to her, the Crown Princess and fire dragon king locked eyes. She gave him a thumbs up and an encouraging nod. He nodded in response automatically, but she could tell he was still unsure of everything that had taken place last night. Her eyes shifted over to the blonde and she mouthed out to just be yourself. That seemed to help him get the memo.

Lucy's smile was radiating now as her partner turned and acknowledged her with a little wave of his hand. The toothy grin on his face never left, even after they bid farewell to the royal palace of Mercurius and set off for Magnolia. That grin never left until they reached the carriage where a look of horror soon mixed into his expression. She was forced to drag him inside and once their transportation started moving, his motion sickness kicked in. Her fingers slipped effortlessly through his spiky hair as she helped settle his nausea. For obvious reasons, this time having the pink-haired fire breather snuggled comfortably into her lap made her heart flutter. That was excluding the whole ordeal that he somehow had wrapped his arms around her waist during the struggle to get him inside the carriage.

In his weakened state, the illusion of his horns dispersed and she found herself staring intensely at the duo of black stumps that were connected into her best friend's skull. Hesitantly she touched them like the few times she had already done before. It didn't scare her or anything. She was just curious about it.

Could this be a dragon trait that he just recently developed during his absence?

The thought made her frown though as she returned to a dark day for the both of them. The day she lost Aquarius and the day he lost his foster-father.

Igneel didn't have any horns though.

The more Lucy theorized the broader her search came up. She was sure that even Acnologia didn't have horns.

So, why does Natsu have them?

He groaned as they reached a bumpy part of the road and cuddled her even tighter. The action caused her to blush and she was grateful once more that Happy was not present. He would never be quiet if he found out. Natsu fidgeted around for a few more seconds and his right arm slipped out from around her. For the first time, since she had patched him up at the end of the war with Tartaros, Lucy was able to see how much his shoulder had healed. The red Fairy Tail emblem was still proudly displayed but it's color was faded and a jagged scar raced through the center of it. What really caught her eye though was the markings underneath. Normally he kept it covered by his normal attire but since the dragon slayer was just wearing a t-shirt it was very noticeable. She was mesmerized by the pattern and smiled once she concluded it resembled a dragon.

Natsu sighed happily as he went in and out of consciousness. She continued stroking his hair lovingly and played with its unkemptness.

I really need to have Cancer give you a fresh cut when we get back.

Lucy glanced up at the passing terrain wondering where they were. After seeing they still a great way to go she leaned her head back against the side of the carriage and listened to her friend's peaceful snores. His hot breath tickled her thighs but she didn't mind. All she cared about was that the fire dragon slayer actually felt the same way that she felt about him. It was everything she dreamed for and so, at this particular time, there was no place Lucy Heartfilia would rather be.

She couldn't believe the sight before her. A good portion of the guild hall had been restored courtesy of a bickering Gray and Gajeel with assistance, and interference, from Erza. That wasn't the reasoning for why tears were threatening to spill though.

"Wow, Luce!" Natsu slung his arm around her shoulder and pulled her against him. "They must of gotten your message!"

She nodded on autopilot, astonished that her letters reached their friends. Some of her closest friends and strongest mages of Fairy Tail were back home! The Strauss siblings were in the middle of a conversation with Levy and Wendy. It was a brunette holding a tankard that announced their arrival.

"Lucy! Why don't you get on over here~! You too Natsu, let me see my favorite little dragon~" Cana's words slurred together but Lucy registered them.

The announcement of her name stopped all communication taking place. She couldn't hold back the waterworks that escaped and barely comprehended the little push to her back from Natsu's hand. A shout rang out as Mira and Lisanna ran out from under part of the completed construction and embraced her.

"Welcome back home, Lucy." Mira spoke softly and sweetly. Levy offered support and the four women giggled as Erza chastised a perplexed Natsu.

"I didn't even make her cry, Erza!" He said baffled by the accusation.

"If not for you, why else would she be crying?"

"I don't know! Lucy is weird like that." Natsu's strange reasoning came back to bite him as he suffered a harsh blow to the head that rendered him unconscious for the second time that day. No transportation was needed either. Gray, Gajeel, and Elfman erupted into laughter at the display but held any tongue after the glare they received from the scarlet-haired woman.

"I better go save him." Lucy remarked and another giggling session commenced amongst her friends.

To everyone's surprise, and to Lucy's delight and Natsu's excitement, several more of their former guildmates returned that day. The Connell family of Alzack, Bisca, and a more grown up but still young Asuka, had gotten the blonde's letter and decided to make the trip out. They weren't the only ones though. Wakaba and Macao had stayed close to Magnolia in the first place and so coming back was an easy decision for them. Romeo was thrilled to see Natsu and the two fire wizards immediately showed off some of their new tricks to one another. Warren Rocko was the final member to receive her letter and decide to travel home for the time being. He was already showing off his newest portable built communication lacrima which Erza was very interested in. Gray explained how it was similar to what they used during the Avatar operation. That ended up with him once more profusely apologizing to Juvia for abandoning her like he did.

"Hey everybody we're back!" A familiar voice made their presence known as a blue, white, and black exceed entered the half finished building. "Natsu!"

Happy flew into his partner's arms, who happened to be in the middle of showing off a flame to Romeo.

"Hey lil buddy!"

Instantly the prankster came out of him. "So... what were you and Lucy doing all alone, eh?"

Natsu rolled his eyes at the attempt and sent a wave of fire at the feline. It was safe to say Happy would stay silent on the matter, for now. While the rest of their group was celebrating being back together, a newly attired Natsu began digging through part of the remaining wreckage. He was back in his normal one-sleeved black and orange waistcoat. Using one hand he melted the debris and using the other he dug around until he found what he was looking for.

"Got ya!" He smirked as he reached down and hoisted the wooden support up into the air. Immediately following the handle, a battered but still intact banner flew defiantly in the wind. "Fairy Tail is back in action from this day forward!"

"Not only have we worked on our guildhall, but also our teamwork skills!" Erza stated triumphantly as she helped hammer one of the last nails in. It would of been done sooner but Gajeel could no longer be trusted around the box of nails. His excuse was he just wanted a snack. "I'm hoping Master Makarov notices both once he returns."

"The only thing he's going to notice is how much more bossy you've gotten." Natsu said under his breath. Unfortunately for him, Erza Scarlet didn't need dragon enhanced hearing to decipher his little remark.

"What did you say?" She ordered and the slayer fell off his ladder in terror.

"Nothing! Nothing at all!" He nodded hurriedly and had to restrain himself from glaring at the chuckling black-haired ice wizard next to him.

"Splendid! I knew you were better than that." Erza smiled. "Now get back to work." The uplifting motivation morphed into a stern demand. He grumbled all the way back up the ladder.

"Need something to drink, Natsu?" Lisanna asked as she passed between him and Gray's location.

"Yeah, sure! Thanks Lisanna."

The younger white-haired Strauss sister made her way through the construction site as she delivered thirst quenching bottles of water to each member. She had some extra remaining and knew exactly who would want it.

"Still thirsty?" She teased and threw up another bottle which Natsu reflexively caught.

"You really know how to sling some drinks." He grinned.

"I'd hope so. Mira and I worked at a restaurant the last year so I've gotten quite good at it." She explained while spinning one of her extra water bottles in her hand. "Thank you for noticing though, Natsu."

"You and Mira? Oh, please tell me Elfman was a part of that!" Happy jumped up and down as he imagined the older Strauss dressed up as a waiter.

"Not exactly." She shot down his brainstorming. "He went away training most of the year. Didn't say what it was or what he was doing. The only time we ever saw him was when he would come into the town that we were staying at and visit the restaurant." Lisanna gave the blue exceed a pat on the head. "He said it would make him a 'real man' though."

"That so?" Natsu questioned and he stepped off the ladder. "I'll have to test that later."

"Why not now? I can show you what I've accomplished if you think you're a real man pinky!" A booming voice said behind him. He tilted his head back and found himself encased by a shadow. The sound of cracking fingers was all the taunt that he needed.

"Not the best idea..." Lisanna shook her head to the side and sighed after seeing the widening smirk from the fire mage.

Off to the side, in a more open area than the rest of the tarped surrounding, Levy, Wendy, and Lucy sat around a wooden table. The former Council member was scribbling fiercely into the parchment. She repeatedly shifted the quill up and down before dipping it into the inkwell just to do the process all over again.

"Paperwork sucks." The older bluenette moaned as she gave her hand a momentary rest. "We can't just say we're a guild though. We have to do some documentation in order to make sure we bring Fairy Tail back as a legal guild." She mentioned aloud to her gathered friends.

"Wow, I had no idea that it was such a tedious procedure." Wendy spoke and nodded at the further explanation given by Levy.

"Yep! Without approval from the Council we technically would be considered a dark guild."

"That's true and that's one of the few reasons we joined them." Pantherlily disclosed. "The first was so we could learn the process should this day come and the other was to make a few friends on the inside."

"Great strategy!" Carla complimented their brilliant outside the box thinking.

"Perfectly said Lily." Levy smiled as she returned to writing. "Once this is done we'll be able to officially announce to the world that Fairy Tail is back!"

"Thank you so much Levy! You're the absolute best!" The sky dragon slayer wept out of pure happiness.

"You're welcome but there is no reason to cry. Oh, this next one is tricky though." She leaned into her palm and closed her eyes. "Do you agree with me that Erza is the best candidate?" Levy asked reopening them and saw her four friends both nod supportively.

"She is easily the most qualified and is really the only one who can keep those hooligans in line." Carla expressed. "Besides this is only for the time being until our sixth master returns."

"You're right. In that case we'll make it official tomorrow." Levy stated as she finished the documentation. "Why don't we throw a party to celebrate?"

It's safe to say that everyone present was onboard with her offer and they partied far into the night the famous Fairy Tail way.

He was rushed out of sleep as his eyes opened and he felt something heavy laying across him. It didn't take long for him to figure out what it was.

Lucy?!

The blonde's sleepy form was rising up and down on his chest and his heartrate accelerated. His narrowed eyes quickly scanned the area and he was appreciative to find out that no one was awake. Or so he thought. A giggling blue cat covered his face mischievously and flew off shouting that he would see them in the morning and to have fun. That hint wasn't entirely missed by him either. Natsu rolled his eyes at the cat's antics, but wondered when this had even happened in the first place. The party was nothing but a blur right now. With nothing else to do, he shook her awake. Lucy spoke incoherently through her yawns but by the time they were on their way back to her apartment she was revived. Her chocolate brown eyes lit up the sidewalk as if she were a literal lighting pole.

He noticed she was acting strange, but decided to not bring the matter up right now. The last thing he wanted to do was ruin his best friend's obvious good mood. The dragon slayer wasn't even sure why she was in such a happy state but nonetheless enjoyed seeing her relish in it.

She looks good like this. When she smiles.

After having a intrapersonal conflict with herself, Lucy finally went through with what she wanted to do all along. She reached out and grabbed his hand before intertwining it with her own. The Celestial summoner noticed his eyebrows raise at the gesture but he willingly went along with it. A bad feeling spawned in her chest and she pulled him along down the street closer to her apartment.

Natsu was caught off guard and curious by her sudden haste to get home. He spotted a nearby bench and led her over to it as they both sat down.

"Luce, is everything okay?"

With the feeling of dread from before disappearing, she sighed to herself. He decided to try some of Hisui's advice. He casually wrapped his left arm around her supportively and he felt her lean closer against him immedaitely. Another sigh escaped, but this time her entire head whipped around to face him. Her brown eyes penetrated his own eagerly.

"What are we now, Natsu?" She asked after a deep breath. Taken back by the odd question, Natsu carefully thought about how he should answer. His mind recalled all the fun adventures they'd been on up to that point and the way they always had been there for one another. Even through their hardships. The phrasing of the question still slightly confused him though.

Lucy could see his reluctance to wanting the answer the question but knew it wasn't from him being dense. "Let me rephrase that. We were best friends before... but now we've... you know, kissed-"

"And best friends don't do that?" The dragon slayer chuckled offhandedly. Now knowing what was bothering her, and also what she was trying to ask him, made him become amused. His partner could lose herself in the strangest fantasies sometimes. He noticed her eyes widen as he finished her expressed thought for it.

"Y-Yeah, best friends normally don't kiss." Lucy looked down at her lap and started to play with her fingers. He could tell she was uncomfortable about the topic and decided he should try and help solve her dilemma. Actually it was more fair to say, their dilemma.

"Then I guess we aren't best friends anymore, right?"

"We aren't? But then what are we?" She turned to face him once more.

"What do you mean?"

You are so hardheaded.

Natsu internally glared at his other half and sent him further into the back of his mind.

Serves you right.

I'm still here.

Gah! Will you get out of my head!

Lucy saw his face twitch and his red-dotted eye glow momentarily. It dimmed itself almost just as fast and he was now the one with his head turned to face her.

"What would you consider us? If we're not best friends anymore."

"Well first off, you're still my best friend Luce." He revealed. "Second, I don't really care what the kiss makes us in your eyes."

"You don't?" She mumbled and her despair grew.

Sensing her sudden sadness, he reached for her hands alarmed and held them tight in his own. "I-I mean, I do! It's just... I don't know the word or answer that you're probably searching for. I've never been seriously involved with someone before, remember?"

She nodded her head following along. It was basic common knowledge that the pink-haired fire mage had never gone on a real date or done anything romantic with a woman. Well, until last night that was.

The moment couldn't have been more perfect. It was everything I wanted my first kiss to ever be. Under the moonlight with the one I love.

She was brought out of her dreams as he softly rubbed his thumbs over her knuckles.

"But I'll tell you what. I'll be whatever it is you want me to be, Luce. I always have and now that I know more about the way I feel for you... I always will."

His statement caused her to close up and she failed to produce any words. The only way she knew how to communicate her feelings to him were through action. He was attracted to the blonde in his arms and was highly interested by her next move. She pulled them off the bench and made a beeline to her apartment. He went to separate their hands so he could go through the window but was dragged up the stairs before he could even register it. His lone red eye caused the shadowed space in the hallway to glow. Within seconds of reaching the second floor and going by the railing, Lucy's boldness soared.

He felt his back press against the door as she spun him around and instigated their second kiss. This was one was much more passionate than their first and he once more found himself following her lead. Whatever she did he replicated, or at least tried to. He was completely okay with letting his friend express herself in whatever way she believed was best. Reality couldn't be denied either. The fire mage was beginning to enjoy these instances with his friend too.

His competitive nature was coming out to play and he returned her fearlessness with his own. Still preoccupied by their advancements, he fumbled with the door and somehow managed to withdraw the key from her hand, insert it, and unlock the door. That was a feat he had no idea how he accomplished. He heard the click and it opened. They both stumbled through, nearly falling over, before they pulled apart. Natsu wiped his lips with his wrist amused while Lucy refused to look at him. It seemed his blonde partner wasn't as bold on the inside as she was on the outside.

That was a terrible mistake on her part and he would use that to his advantage in the future. Grasping her hand, he pulled her back forwards him and made the first move this time. He heard what he believed was an internal cheer. The hurricane of affection stormed onwards until he instinctively summoned a solid wall of fire in front of them. He heard a thunk bounce off the elemental form and watched the ball of black magic fail to break through his shield. They quickly released one another in surprise.

The black-haired intruder sat in the living room patiently. Upon having their full attention his eyes twinkled and he greeted them with a sincere smile. Or was it sincere?

"I apologize for interrupting the lovely show, but I must insist you handle this message I bring with care. It is rather important, after all." They announced.

Sitting before them like a person of royalty was a man they knew all to well.

"Hello Natsu."

"Zeref!" Both shouted in astonishment at his sudden appearance. Natsu's shock rapidly changed into anger at seeing the man. He maneuvered Lucy behind him. They sensed the massive amount of magic power but were unsure where it was coming from. An exact location couldn't just be pinpointed... it seemed to be flowing all around. It was almost suffocating.

Why is he here!

His other half failed to respond and they eyed the black magic user distrustfully.

"What do you want?" Lucy interrogated as her resentment for the Black Wizard broke out.

"So rude, are you sure this is the one you truly want, Natsu?" He taunted and enjoyed seeing the murderous glint in the pinkette's eyes. "I stopped by for two reasons to be exact. The first was to inform you of Makarov's whereabouts."

"You know where Gramps is?" He asked incredulously before snarling. "Like we'd ever believe a thing you say!"

"Trusting me is up to you." Zeref smiled. "But it may be the only way to save your former master's life. Whether he dies... well, that is all is up to me."

"Up to you?" She questioned before pointing a finger out at him. "Where is he Zeref!"

He stayed impassive and stood up from her chair. Before either of them could realize what he was doing, the black-haired leader of death teleported in front of them. Natsu felt his control waver as his hateful eyes bore into crafty amused ones.

"Would you like to know? Or would you rather him die? He is the one who disbanded your remaining family, Natsu." He stretched out the dragon slayer's name mockingly. It was all a part of his elaborate plan. "Or what you thought were the remains."

Zeref could see through into his very soul. It was a mixture of emotions that were just waiting to finally boil over. Tonight would be that final strike needed to set the pieces and deliver the war he wanted. It was like a chess match and he was the one writing the rules. Everything was falling perfectly into place.

"Where. Is. He." Each word that slipped out promised pain for the immortal mage if he didn't disclose information soon.

"He's being treated extraordinarily by higher subjects in my empire. However, that can change depending on your answer." The Black Wizard revealed.

"Empire?" Lucy said in bewilderment.

The dinner with Hisui and Arcadios flashed into her mind as she remembered the strained discussion. The tension only increased once Natsu growled in recognition. A wave of panic set in.

"You are correct Lucy. Fairy Tail's sixth Guildmaster has been residing in the Alvarez Empire for the past year. The best part? That old fool has no idea who is at the reins of such a nation."

"You're the leader of Alvarez? Who cares..."

"I wouldn't brush things aside so easily if I were you Natsu. I am all that stands between an invasion into Ishgar. An invasion that would destroy Fairy Tail once and for all."

"Try us." Natsu hissed in warning.

"Normally I would go along with your game, but I have more important deeds that need to be done. This perfectly brings me to my other reason for being here."

"Other reason?" Lucy questioned from behind the pinkette's view.

"Yes, the other reason I'm here in your apartment Lucy is to speak with E.N.D." Zeref's smile was threatening and his eyes turned bright red.

"E.N.D?!" She yelled out. "Well sorry to rain on your parade but he isn't here! So, beat it!"

Natsu grinned at his partner's feisty side and watched as she verbally assaulted the Black Wizard. Those feelings vanished though as a familiar looking book warped into his hands. Zeref held it outwards to him.

"You misunderstood me. I wanted to give my apologies regarding my last encounter with him. I wanted to apologize to you specfically, Natsu." His eyes landed on the dragon slayer and their expressions locked against each other.

"Apologize? For what!" She hollered after becoming displeased of being kept hidden in the dark.

Why does he think E.N.D is here? He's not!

"Your stupid demon is in that cursed book and you know it! What's your angle?"

It was the same demonic tome from before. The object that Igneel had requested him to steal from Mard Geer was right in the open. It was the chance he was looking for! Yet, his limbs refused to move. His body refused to respond to his commands!

"Your time has finally arrived. I want you to have full power... and full knowledge of the stakes E.N.D... or would you rather be called by your true name?" Zeref announced.

"My true name?"

"E.N.D is just an alias amongst my Books. Its true self is much more special than a three letter moniker. Tell me... what all do you know about my greatest demon?"

He felt condemned as his magic froze up on him. His physical fire may of been shut down for the moment but his emotional fire shined brightly. "I know all I need to know! Igneel put a stop to that bastard once already and I won't let you undo all his hard work!"

"Do you recall back to our encounter in the Cube where I warned you that you would soon be forced to choose between life and death? That moment is now and you shall decide whether you will follow the path your deceased dragon chose. Will you face the same fate Natsu and be killed by the one who disgraced the fire dragon king?"

"Igneel fought to the very end! Don't disrespect his name!" He snarled.

"I would never dear brother. You mean too much for me to ever do such a thing."

The book opened, revealing its hideous pages, and a lone finger outstretched itself and pointed directly at the cover. Zeref's red eyes glowed before he fired a bullet of dark energy straight through the center. A trail of smoke billowed out of the tome as Natsu dropped to the floor with labored breaths. There was almost no difference between the time of the action and the time of the reaction.

Lucy was at his side in an instant. She cradled him into her arms and gazed deeply into his darkening eyes. "Natsu! Natsu! What's wrong? Stay with me!"

"It's time you learned the truth. That creature inside of you may have lied and deceived you... but I won't. I want you at your best for this upcoming war, Natsu."

"Creature inside? War? What is he talking about?!" Lucy spoke rapidly as she shook her friend who had been paralyzed somehow. "Natsu, talk to me!"

Her blood ran cold as Zeref's shadow shaped itself around them and she was forced to acknowledge his shimmering orbs. Whatever he had done to them lead to their magic being closed off. They were defenseless against him!

"I'm sure you have realized you have little to no communication with your Spirits." He pointed out in a matter of fact. "I'm also positive a bright girl like yourself have now noticed the connection that joins Natsu and my Book together."

"How are they linked together?! That doesn't make any sense!"

"But it does! Your ancestor surprised me plenty of times and now I wonder if you will do the same, Lucy." He sneered. "How far does a Heartfilia's love flow for a weaponized monster? What about the rest of your guild? I'm pleasantly looking forward to finding out those answers." Zeref revealed and he lazily held out his hand, pushing her back against the front door.

That mental hesitance broke the spell on the dragon slayer and he leaped to his feet coughing. "Lucy!" He shouted. "What did you just do!"

His voice had blended together with something else entirely. Zeref's ominous figure became brighter and Natsu swore his vision had enhanced itself. He could feel individual parts of him tingling and his mouth twitched after something sliced the corner of his lips.

"She was in my way of reaching you so I paralyzed her instead. Be grateful I'm sparing her. Don't worry though she can still hear us."

"Let her GO!"

Zeref noticed the extended fangs and darkened tone. Fingers had turned into talons and crimson scales began covering various parts of his face. That cruel smirk widened.

"I see you've finally come out to play little brother."

The Black Wizard watched as the fire demon's eyes literally flared up on fire. One eye was stunned in confusion while the other mirrored absolute hatred. Two different beings in control at once. Now that was a sight he had never seen before!

"We are NOT RELATED!" He yelled defiantly while curved black horns protruded further from his spiky pink hair.

"I know you hate being mislead, Natsu... so how angry will you get when I tell you the truth of your origins?"

"Origins about what..."

"What my little creation has refused to reveal to tell you." Zeref's glowing eyes taunted. "Their is a reason Igneel never fully defeated E.N.D. You are much more than just a dragon slayer or king of the fire dragons like you now are. Natsu... your very existence is based purely off my black magic. I am the reason you've been able to become the person you are today."

"You're wrong!"

"Am I? I believe Lucy has already figured out what those last two letters mean... but do either of you know what the first one stands for. Do you, Natsu?" Once more the transformed demon voiced his displeasure. "Let me enlighten you then. The reason you can do different talents with your fire is because you are not using magic in that moment. You are using my abilities given to you. They're called curses."

"Curses?" The hybrid slayer questioned having never heard of the terminology before. He resulted to pleading with his other half for clues.

What is he talking about? Answer me, please!

It was Zeref who would give him the answer he desired.

"Yes, that is right. Tartaros demons retained these curses but they were not up to par to what you can do. Far from it actually which is why you alone are the depiction of my success. Countless months and tremendous amounts of power went into your creation. You were the first and only demon forged entirely from black magic and restored into a human body. You are an Etherious. To be precise, your full identity is known as Etherious Natsu Dragneel. The very reason Igneel could not follow through with his original plan is because of your awakening. You are E.N.D."

I'm sorry.

Her heart was shattered. Everything she feared was becoming true. The man she loved was programmed to be a killing machine without even knowing it. How could this be? Had Zeref really played them all? He had. They both fell right into his clutches. Now it was going to be another war that decided if they would ever get out.

Lucy remained immobilized against the door and saw the look of horror flash across her best friend's features. The undying maniac before him just watched on gleefully. It was a sickening sight and one that broke her spirit. She wanted to block the Black Wizard out of her mind and just forget about everything. She had finally made the move after wanting him. He wanted her back. The guild was reformed. They were happy.

Him being a bloodthirsty demon can't be true!

But try as she might... the signs were all there. His developed powers, the increased aggression against Avatar, and his strange developed attributes. That lone red iris was a dead giveaway as well as the small horns that were concealed from an outsider's view. His life was connected to a book surrounded in darkness. His fate written in demonic writing on paper. Natsu Dragneel was a demon. The most feared one at that. A sharp pain cried out and Natsu collapsed under the Black Wizard's might.

Zeref's words hit her like a train and she uncovered the hidden meaning behind his carefully designed taunt.

Gods, our friends! What will they think? How will they react?

Her despair sunk deeper as she realized how this would shift the trust held between certain individuals.

Gray wants E.N.D destroyed... I can't let him harm Natsu! He can't find out about this! None of them can find out about this!

"You may not have a choice in the matter." Zeref's tranquility met her at the door. His red eyes had dimmed back into their normal black. They were sparkling. "Rest assured Lucy, your guild will face annihilation. Fairy Tail mages will fall. My interest is in whether or not you will be one of them."

His voiced thoughts drifted off and he returned his gaze onto her paralyzed form. "Take care of my brother for the time being if you don't mind. His entire outlook on life will have changed once I lift this spell... and he won't ever be the same."

A snap of his fingers and a veil of darkness were followed by his departure. Zeref had left the two wizards to step over the shards. Feeling the return of her magic, Loke instantly appeared at her side and helped the blonde up off the floor. She shrugged him off and rushed over to her friend's aid. The movements were wobbly at best but those were the least of her concerns. Tears soon started to be shed as she eyed her unconscious companion dejectedly.

Curved horns noticeably stuck out from under his pink hair. It was darkened slightly and the tips were now black. With his mouth and eyes closed she couldn't see any difference there - but Lucy knew that wasn't the case. Changes had definitely been made there too. Loke remained at a distance but kept his fists ready in case of a sudden brawl. The dragon slayer was his friend but his loyalty was with the Celestial mage. If he woke up and tried to attack then he would be ready for battle. Could he deal serious blows though to such a respected ally?

"I'll be okay." She whispered after seeing his confliction. "I just need to figure out what I'm going to do." She flung her hands in the air in frustration. "This is all still overwhelming for me. But this is serious."

"It is serious. He's a demon, Lucy! We heard everything." Loke stated. "Natsu isn't safe. I know he's your friend, mine too, but... a demon from Zeref! There is too much at risk."

"Then I'll face that risk head on!" She shouted in response as her tear-filled eyes shined in the dark room. "Natsu has saved me countless times... and he's always been there for me." She vocalized while intentionally leaving out the time he abandoned her for an entire year. She knew he had his reasons for it.

"I understand that! This isn't Natsu anymore though! Who knows what will be in control once that monster awakens!" He argued.

"He's not a monster! He could never be!" She chastised her strongest spirit sternly. "Don't you ever compare him to such a thing again!"

"B-But, Lucy..."

"I don't care what anyone else says or feels once the truth comes out! I will prevent it for as long as it takes. He's saved everyone in the guild Loke! It's time we return the favor! Zeref can't get away this and I won't let him corrupt Natsu!"

Loke was torn on accepting her outlook on the situation. She was right in that he deserved to be saved. But the tough decision revolved around the question in how could he be saved? Zeref had already gotten away. Zeref had already corrupted Natsu.

"I admire and respect the bonds you both share, but please think about this in a different light. Even if Natsu is still somewhat there Lucy... he's not going to be the same goofball you fell in love with."

The bombshell had been dropped and he frowned as soon as the words came out. He was unsurprised once the golden key angrily flashed into view.

"I'm sorry." Was all he managed before he was forcefully returned to the Spirit Realm.

Lucy moved him onto her bed after her tirade finished with Loke. She knew the Zodiac Spirit meant well and was only looking after her safety, but the blonde refused to believe her best friend was dangerous. She had accepted his demon nature already. She would not accept him becoming an enemy to her, their guild, or the world. The reason behind her motives was that when he awakened she wanted him to be in a familiar place. It would help with his memories if they had been altered in any way.

Zeref did something to you with that book. I just hope you haven't left me, Natsu... please not again.

She sat to the side of him as her hand softly caressed his scarred cheek. He had explained that it was the aftermath of Igneel's determination to save him from Acnologia's fatal blast. A year had caused the once dark red claw marks to lessen. He would always sport those scars though. She wondered if his horns and other demonic traits would remain or if they would lessen too as time went on. One thing that made her curious was his abilities with them. When she was running her fingers through his hair in the carriage ride home to Magnolia she didn't feel the horns originally. She didn't even realize they were there until they had suddenly shown up randomly. That got her thinking...

Could he possibly hide them at will?

Natsu's gift was held tightly in her right hand. She couldn't imagine using the sword on her best friend. She didn't want to. That would only mean that he had fallen completely under Zeref's control.

I have to get his Book. If I can acquire that neither Zeref nor Gray will be able to seriously hurt him. I would protect him!

Referring to the pinkette as a book was a little unsettling but their were more pressing matters at hand. She had long dried her eyes from the tears that fell. It had been two hours since he lost consciousness and she tried figuring out when he might wake up. A bright idea dawned on her.

Porlyusica! She might be able to help us!

A sudden latch onto her wrist brought her out of her mind and she stared into glowing red orbs. Lucy felt herself stiffen at his touch and his fingers wrapped around her hand. No... not fingers, they were claws. Crimson claws that were scorching hot. She let out a little whimper from discomfort at the blazing heat and he quickly let go. Using the opportunity given to her, she slid off the side of her bed and held her blade key at the ready. Her decision seemed to frighten him. His eyes looked so evil and his appearance was unsettling, but he remained silent and unmoving after her little outburst.

"Natsu?"

"I didn't mean to hurt you." His voice was raspy and so much different from his normal boisterous tone. The movement of his lips allowed her to see his transformed features. The dragon slayer no longer possessed canines. He now had fangs and she could tell just by the size that they were sharp and deadly.

"I-It's alright." She answered his concern as she moved closer to the bed.

"Luce, what's happened to me? What's wrong with me?"

His startled and broken state broke down her barriers. In an instant she flung herself on top of him and embraced the dragon slayer, turned demon, affectionately.

"Oh, Natsu! I was so worried that I had lost you."

He remained motionless on the bed. She held him tighter and began to cry into his torn waistcoat. The missing pieces of fabric slightly revealed his scaly chest. She sweated as the temperature around her was intense. Emotions were running high and so she didn't mind the heat. Lucy felt a singular claw carefully slide down her back.

"I-I'm still here." He confirmed although a bit shakily. "Not going anywhere."

She relaxed against him and realized avoiding the burn had to do with physically not touching him. Cloth helped insulate his warmth which allowed her to hold onto him safely. A lone claw though could touch her skin and not scorch her, but all five would not work like he originally had tried.

"This is going to be a learning process isn't it?" Lucy whispered and pressed her forehead against his chest.

"Yeah." He answered truthfully and kept stroking her back with his one claw.

"How are you holding up?"

The knowledge that he was created for evildoings still somewhat spooked her. But she needed to remain calm for the both of them. Besides she could never view him as anything monstrous in the first place.

"I'-I'm managing. Luce... I have so much energy running through my veins I'm afraid to even move. My thoughts are constantly clashing between peace and destruction. I don't know how to feel anymore. I've never felt so weak but yet so powerful."

An imagine of the Black Wizard formed and she cut him down immediately with fictional stars. Her friend sounded so afraid and it nearly made her start weeping again. She held her sadness at bay and continued to hold him securely in her arms. Her head raised up and she met his current red eyes. She couldn't hide the wince that escaped. He looked so unlike himself.

"What's wrong?"

Despite appearing like a destructive demon, Natsu wasn't acting like one. Perhaps Zeref had underestimated his creation. He had adopted the characteristics of a demon but were not showing them. At least, not yet.

"Nothing's wrong." Lucy shot down his concern and focused on his lips. They had gone from being closer than ever to mentally being miles apart in just a few hours. How she longed to see his signature smile right now. She wouldn't get her wish though as he only frowned.

"Luce, we both know that's not true."

The crimson key slipped from her palm and fell to the floor. Her emotions, that she had been holding in check, spiraled out of control at the conclusion of his words. She nodded and burst into tears, clinging to him like a lifeline. It was clear that everything would change from here. He had played such a vital role in her life. His faith in her was the only reason she was able to join Fairy Tail in the first place. He had fought against evil to protect the world... and now the world was fighting against him. Life could be so unfair.

"Clear a path for Emperor Spriggan!"

The crowd that was gathered alongside the entrance to the palace cheered wildly at the return of their ruler. Guests in high towers leaned out of their windows to get a closer look at the man in charge of their lustrous empire.

"Would you look at that, Yajeel?" Makarov stated as he slid out of the chair he had been occupying. They were in the process of playing a card game that was very popular on this side of the continent. The High Minister joined him and they both watched the parade below. "You've spoken so highly of him, but I have to say it's a stark contrast for someone rumored to have aligned all these guilds and taken the nation by force..."

"It's typical for those famous and those who make history to have many sides that branch between what is true and what is false." Yajeel answered. "His Majesty is nothing if not gracious."

"I've waited an entire year for this." Fairy Tail's most recent Guildmaster spoke with relief. "I can finally rest my case."

"Makarov, I've told you that Emperor Spriggan has already been made aware of Ishgar's appeal for non-aggression. Once he decides if he supports your claim his twelve shields will fall in line with him and all will be well."

"I am blown away by the courtesy considering our past."

"After this is all over I'm sure you will be free to return home." Yajeel explained just as the Alvarez' Emperor came into view.

"I'm ready. My children have been waiting for me." He nodded but froze at the puzzling sight.

"Long live Emperor Spriggan! Long live Emperor Spriggan!"

The citizens' excitement soared and various instruments blared in the background repeatedly. Makarov's jaw lowered itself and froze while his eyes nearly bulged out of the sockets. A black-haired man that had wrecked devastation across their land for years walked smoothly down the red carpet. He looked unamused by the display around him but smiled nonetheless.

"He has the gift of youthful radiance. Something I haven't possessed in decades unfortunately."

Zeref?!

Makarov's shock furthered though once he spotted the figure being escorted behind the man. The green hair and seven gemmed tiara were unmistakable. He hadn't seen her since the disbandment of his guild!

Yajeel was just as surprised as the short white-haired man next to him. That was definitely not what he was expecting.

Princess Hisui? What is she doing here?!

"Welcome home Your Majesty. It's a pleasure to have you here once again."

"Good to see you too Invel." Zeref greeted him politely. He kept his chin up and motioned to his guest behind him. "If you please?"

The blue-haired man, known as the Winter General, was unsure what his leader was asking until he realized the green-haired woman did not look to be her on her own free will.

"Return me this instant!" Hisui demanded.

Instantly he nodded. "Sir." His hand raised and he focused his magic on the prisoner. A collar made of ice materialized around her neck.

"Thank you. I know I can always count on you." He smirked as Hisui's eyes widened with fear. "I know this is sudden, but could you assemble the 12?"

"That will take time. If only I could of predicted Spring's first breeze. I could of already had them assembled here for you."

"So, I'm as unpredictable as the wind am I?" Zeref chuckled.

"More like unpredictable as a thunderstorm." A new comer joined in on the conversation. "A thunderstorm of death." The blonde revealed herself from the shadows. "A spring breeze doesn't even come close."

"Na, you've got it all messed up. He's like a desert! A sandstorm bringing death all over the land!" Another person joined the warrior queen's side. His flared brown hair was tucked back by the orange bandana across his forehead. "One that could swallow that girl up in a matter of seconds." The desert king's eyes landed on the captured woman.

Zeref turned and faced the two members from his elite army. "Dimaria, Ajeel. What colorful imagery you both have."

"Have you two no manners? How dare you speak to His Majesty this way!" Invel glared. Alvarez's Emperor smiled slightly.

"I do appreciate their openness with me."

Footsteps sounded through the grand hall and a wizard wielding a staff entered through the massive door. He was an older man.

"Am I to take it that your travels have ended Your Majesty? You seem to be in very good spirits. I see you even brought someone back with you from your expedition."

"Suppose I am, August?" Zeref questioned the wizard king.

"Does this mean you have found the answer you were looking for? About Ragnarok."

"In Ishgar it's known as the dragon king festival. To answer you original question, I have been able to solve many of my own. I believe your training will be put to the test quite soon."

Dimaria nodded confidently and Ajeel pumped his fist. "A battle? Yes!"

Zeref turned at the sound of his established title. Yajeel approached slowly while clutching onto his cane and moving it forward. He waited in interest.

"I am truly delighted to see you have returned safely home from your long journey, my lord. I find it best to exercise proper caution in the presence of such greatness." Yajeel started.

Zeref stayed expressionless.

"I believe you may be aware a representative all the way from Ishgar arrived while you were away."

"I have heard, yes."

Yajeel moved aside and opened his palm out at Makarov. The short man stepped forward and he eyed the ruler carefully.

"He is quite insistent on meeting with you as soon as possible, so I was hoping you'd grant him an audience."

This time it was Invel who stepped forward with a frown. "But why would he? You know there is a proper protocol for situations like this. Has he filled out the paperwork-"

"I'd love to." Zeref cut the man off.

Makarov lowered himself onto one knee and bowed before the Black Wizard respectfully. "First, let me say it is an honor to meet you, Your Majesty." His head remain dipped down at the carpet as silence followed.

"I'd like to speak with his man in private." He took one glance at Hisui. "She shall remain too."

At the top of his castle, Zeref watched his glorious empire from high above. Yajeel and the rest of his party had dispersed at his request. Invel confirmed he would send out a message and acquire the remaining nine members missing. That left him all alone with two powerful figures from Ishgar.

Now that he had the meeting he came for, Makarov's temper quickly came out at the scene. "Why is Princess Hisui here?!" He demanded after seeing her glossy eyes. The collar around her neck seemed to be severely affecting her state of mind.

"Is that any way to find out whether or not I shall agree to your proposal?" Zeref said rather amused. "Regarding her, I simply needed something else to lure him here. I feared your decision of the guild may have lessened the feelings he once had. So, acquiring her was a simple strategic maneuver to ensure my plans do not backfire."

"Kidnapping the future ruler of Ishgar is a joke to you?!" Makarov asked incredulously.

"Yes. Just as it is knowing you shut down Mavis' pride in order to prevent me from invading." He pointed his illuminated purple finger directly at Hisui. In a bright flash she vanished. "I'm afraid that was the wrong decision Makarov."

"Hisui! What happened? What did you do!"

"I have no need for her at this time. This audience was meant for just the two of us, after all. She was sent away much like how I sent myself away to explore Ishgar. Regarding her she'll be exploring out of her comfort zone for a little while I suppose. Hopefully you don't mind. I'm sure Fiore won't either."

Makarov balled his fists together at his slyness but remained silent.

"For four hundred years I wandered far and wide... searching to find my purpose for living. This world rejected me. During that time I decided to prepare for the dragon king festival. Long ago I made a decision to create a country and build up an army. That is the purpose for Alvarez you see on this day. It was small at first, but gradually expanded and eventually absorbed all the guilds stationed here." Zeref revealed.

Makarov's eyes narrowed. "All of this had to do with the goal of obtaining the Lumen Histoire?"

"There's no use in trying to deceive me anymore. Let's call it by it's official name, shall we?" Zeref faced him now. "The supreme arcane magic that surpasses even the three grand Fairy spells... Fairy Heart."

"It all makes sense now. The Alvarez Empire is so hell-bent on getting the Fairy Heart, because of you." The older man summarized. "Correct me if I'm wrong."

"That is true. Although the attempted invasion by Alvarez a decade ago was not of my doing. I made the decision to stop them because it was not yet time. I've only recently accepted that is what I want though."

"Are you saying that the that Council's weapons, the Etherion Cannon and Face, weren't the reason behind the retreat?" Makarov questioned curiously.

What else could have been it?

"They were factors of course. Our side would of suffered heavy casualties for sure. However, I'm positive that the Alvarez Empire I've built today could easily crush any of my opponents. You see, the foundations for Alvarez manifested around being strong enough to go against Acnologia. To kill him. But lately I've come to terms that he is not mine to kill."

"How so?"

"Acnologia wants my strongest demon for himself. He is afraid of his power and that is why it will be all the more sweet once E.N.D destroys him."

"E.N.D! That hideous demon of yours?!"

"I am slightly offended by your words. More so that you would call one of your own such a thing." Zeref glared at the Guildmaster. "I'm afraid the love for your family will cost you your life, Makarov. There will be no negotiations between our two nations. The real dragon king festival is about to commence. The Black Wizard, the king of the dragons, and you mere mortals. The time has come to decide... who lives... and who dies."

"So you're plan is to start a war!" Makarov accused as he felt the ominous dark magic forming around him.

"Not exactly. More like an extermination. You all will try to stop me, but in the end I will obtain the Fairy Heart one way or another." A glowing finger reached out at the angry Wizard Saint. "Natsu and his friends will come to rescue you and the girl. While they abandon their home and enter my domain, they will be crushed by my forces and I will take Mavis' power. Though you will never see it happen because long before then you shall already be dead."

Makarov felt himself becoming immobilized and shouted out his hatred for the man before him. "I won't allow you to have our First Master!"

"You called me a demon and considering this will be the last time we meet... I feel it would be unfair for me to not inform you of E.N.D's identity." Zeref spoke with sadness. "I am no more than a cursed soul bound to this world Makarov because of my own foolish endeavors. My brother though is a magnificent creation beyond comprehension. A human-demon hybrid with the powers of a flame dragon and the potential to rule over all. A demon that will bring justice to this world that has defied me. A member of your very guild."

The point of his finger gleamed directly at Makarov. The final words spoken by Alvarez's Emperor shook him to the core.

"Do you think Natsu will mourn over your death? Or will he have already moved on?"

A/N: I really hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I tried different techniques as I'm sure you all could tell. This chapter really was a test for me to see where exactly I can take this story. The dialogue was a big difference, at least in my eyes. I attempted on letting words and conversations flow more without really mentioning who was talking or how they were expressing themselves. Hopefully that didn't confuse or take away any of the natural feeling of the dialogue that this story has had since I started working on it in December.

E.N.D! So, not only did Lucy find out who the demon actually is... but so did Makarov! This was a big decision for me to make. Originally I wanted to wait a little longer, but I felt this was the perfect time for the reveal to happen. I'm really trying to make this 'Post-Tartaros AU' different then canon. It's been fun writing it in this style too.

Natsu and Lucy! I really can see her being the spearhead of their little relationship that they've got going on. I thought the bench scene really captured each of their unique character traits too. Natsu still doesn't exactly know what he's doing when it comes to his feelings for Lucy - but he knows they are there and wants to do everything he can to make her happy. Classic Natsu for ya!

Hisui plays a new role in this story. This addition was one of the last made and the idea behind it came out of the blue. The way I've written Natsu up to this point, his feelings for Makarov have continuously changed. That's why Zeref is unsure whether or not the old man will suffice in luring Natsu to him. Hence he captures Hisui. It's also a pretty bold move to steal the Crown Princess right before you invade her country. That's Zeref for ya!

I don't want to ramble too long (in reality I just want to help answer any of my reader's questions, thoughts, or confusions while I can considering it's much easier to do that on AO3 than it is here on FFN.)

To wrap this up... Acnologia is back! He's been absent since the end of Remembrance (Ch 4) where he made a slight appearance inside his cave. Obviously Zeref was a huge part of this chapter, it was named after him for a reason, and I really enjoyed how both of them appeared. Always felt like Zeref and Acnologia just aren't that "evil" in canon, at least Zeref isn't, and I wanted to kind of reverse that. Both have motives going into this war and both are going to be dangerous. How dangerous? You'll just have to wait and find out!
