A/N I know people have been curious about Flowey and what happened to him. This chapter answers that.

It was summer break and Frisk was out and about in the backyard. Their friends had arranged for them to play today, but neither one would be ready until the afternoon. To pass the time, Frisk was playing with the snow. Asriel was giving them some instructions on how to build a snowman, sculpting it in the image of a Boss Monster, complete with stick horns.

"It's really coming together," Asriel said, holding his hands like he was looking at a picture.

'I'm still amazed that it's not going to melt even at midday,' Frisk signed.

"Of course it won't. No matter the time of year, Snowdin is always this cold," Asriel supplied. "I suppose, being from the surface, you wouldn't be used to that."

'I'm not used to snow,' Frisk signed.

"What do you mean?" Asriel asked.

"Howdy!" a new voice interrupted. Frisk and Asriel jumped and turned around. At first, Frisk didn't see anyone. "Down here!" Frisk looked down and froze. Because a very familiar flower was smiling up at them.

"Um, Frisk is that…?" Asriel asked.

"Long time, no see, huh?" Flowey said amicably.

Frisk didn't dare move. Last time they saw this flower, he had tried to kill them by tricking them.

"What's the matter, pal? Cat got your tongue?" Flowey asked, petal head tilting to the side.

Eventually, Frisk worked up the nerve to sign. 'What are you doing here?'

Flowey tilted his head the other way. "Um, what was with the hand show? I mean, as cool as it looked, I don't know what you're trying to do."

Frisk raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"I guess he doesn't know sign language," Asriel said. "Which is a bit of a relief."

Frisk tried speaking. "Do you… not know sign?"

"Oh, is that what that was?" Flowey asked. "Golly, I didn't know."

This was starting to weird Frisk out. "What are you doing here?"

"I just popped by to say 'hi'! It's been so long! After all, we met in the Ruins… three years ago!"

Frisk glared at the flower. "Why are you acting like we're friends? You tried to kill me."

"I know. And I feel so awful about that," Flowey said, sounding remorseful. "But really, can you blame me? You were the last Soul we needed to go free and just about everyone else would have tried to do the same."

Frisk could see the reason in that, but something in the back of their mind told them to not believe the flower's apology. A conviction that Asriel only strengthened.

"He's lying. I can tell. He doesn't really regret trying to kill you, he's just saying that to make you lower your guard," the specter said.

Frisk agreed with Asriel's assessment. What did this flower want? "Are you serious?" they asked.

"Sure am!" Flowey said with way too much perk to his voice. "I acted without thinking and I am sorry for it."

Frisk shook their head. "Don't believe you."

Flowey looked hurt by that statement. "Hey, no need to be so mean. Especially to someone who saved your life!"

"You tried to kill me. How is that saving my life?"

"Not that. I'm talking about with the humans," Flowey said as if it was obvious. Frisk was shocked by that. "Don't you wonder why they weren't able to cut your throats?" A vine shot out of the ground next to Flowey. "That was me!"

Frisk looked at the vine, which did look identical to the ones that had saved their and Noelle's lives.

"That was him?" Asriel asked in surprise. "Why? Why would he do that?"

'Why would you do that?' Frisk asked Flowey.

"Uh, maybe say that with your voice and not your hands, buddy. I didn't catch any of that," Flowey requested.

Frisk blushed. In their shock, they had forgot. "Why save me?"

"Well, you're the prince, right?" Flowey asked. "Why wouldn't I try to save you?"

Frisk found that reasoning rather suspicious. They found it hard to believe that he would have gone out of his way to help them and keep his involvement secret from the beginning for altruistic reasons.

"There's more to it. I can tell," Asriel warned. And if he agreed, then it meant Frisk was right. But for now, Flowey was trying to be Frisk's friend, but for no reason they could see.

So much went through Frisk's mind in a moment. They ran various possibilities and scenarios through their head. They speculated as to Flowey's motive for doing this and going to these lengths. They decided that perhaps, for now, it was best to play the flower's game. Put up an act and prod and drill to uncover what Flowey wanted with them. Or until he proved he was untrustworthy.

"Well, thanks," Frisk said, acting like they truly believed him.

"No problem!" Flowey said, retracting the vine. "So, wat'cha working on here?" he asked, gesturing to the snowman.

"Making Boss Monster snowman to pass the time," Frisk explained. "My friends won't be ready to play till afternoon." Frisk then got an idea on how to test Flowey's sincerity. "Want to meet?"

Flowey looked caught off guard by the question. "Um, can you explain what you mean? I'm not sure I understand your simple speech."

"You come and meet my friends," Frisk elaborated. "Think you'd make great pals."

"Um, I'm not sure," Flowey hesitated. "I'm a rather shy little flower. I don't like meeting new people."

"Then this will be good for you," Frisk encouraged. "We are going to play games until evening. We can find something you can join in."

Flowey debated on that for a moment before deciding. "Okay. I'll meet you in the forest just outside of town." He disappeared into the ground.

"You don't really believe what he said, do you?" Asriel asked.

'No. But he's up to something. For now, I'll play his game until I find out what he wants.'

"Wow. Very sneaky. Didn't think you had it in you. I like it!"

Meanwhile, Flowey surfaced a ways away. He looked around to make sure no one was in sight. He had to be careful. Especially when it came to Sans.

Well, that went well, he thought to himself. They believed my story. For now, I'll go along with what they want, be as 'honest' as I can and get them to trust me. It may take a while, but eventually, they'll trust me enough to be 'friends'. And when they do, I'll be able to find out where Asgore keeps the Souls. And once I get them, this world will be mine.

Frisk met their friends in the town square. They could see the two of them were still stretching, probably to relieve some aching muscles. Apparently, Undyne decided to have them train over the summer as well, so they had to keep in shape with her rigorous training regimen.

Frisk waved in greeting to them.

"Yo, Frisk!" MK greeted excitedly.

"Hello, Frisk," Noelle greeted pleasantly.

"So, what should we do today?" MK asked.

'First, we're going into the forest,' Frisk signed. 'There's someone there we need to meet.'

"Um, how far into the forest?" Noelle asked warily.

'Not sure, but not that far,' Frisk assured. 'Come on!' Frisk led the way out of town, over the rope bridge that separated the town from the forest.

A short walk later, they entered a more heavily forested area of Snowdin. Frisk cleared their throat. "Flowey!" they shouted.

"Who's Flowery?" MK asked.

'It's 'Flowey',' Frisk signed. "Flowey!" they yelled again.

"Howdy!" Flowey greeted, popping out of the snow in front of them. Noelle and MK jumped at the sight.

"What the!" MK shouted.

'This is Flowey,' Frisk signed to their friends.

"Golly, Frisk. Are these your friends?" Flowey asked. Frisk nodded. "Wow. Nice to meet you! I'm Flowey. Flowey the Flower."

Noelle was frozen. MK was a little more coherent. "Uh, talking flower Monster," he said.

Noelle seemed to be shaken out of her daze with that. "Wait… a flower Monster? I've never heard of such a thing."

"Oh, that's no problem," Flowey reassured, waving a vine. "I've never really seen a lot of Monsters before, anyway."

"But, Noelle, aren't there plenty of plant-like Monsters around anyway?" MK asked.

"Yeah, but… I think if there were talking golden flowers, we would have heard of them before now," she pointed out.

"Well, I've never seen a deer Monster before," Flowey retorted. "And besides, Monsters come in all shapes and sizes. How can you be sure there aren't any others?"

Noelle tapped her fingers together. "I… I guess that makes sense."

Frisk, however, didn't buy it. They were careful to make sure it didn't show, but what Noelle said made sense.

"She's right," Asriel said to Frisk. "I've never heard of any flower-like Monsters. Granted, my knowledge is probably a hundred years out-of-date, but still."

Frisk though had another reason to be suspicious. Flowey hadn't wanted to meet their friends because he said he was shy. And yet, he wasn't acting like it. What was this flower after?

Frisk walked up and signed to their friends. 'Well, now that introductions are out of the way, shall we get to playing?'

"Great idea!" MK agree, skipping in the snow, nearly splashing Flowey.

"Watch it!" he snapped.

"How about regular tag?" Noelle suggested.

"Good idea! Hey, can Flowey play tag?" MK asked.

"Does he even know how to play tag?" Asriel said snidely.

"I know how to play tag!" Flowey said impudently.

"Then you should have no problem being 'it' first!" MK said. "Give us to a count of thirty."

"Fine. But you should run fast!" Flowey said in a sing-song voice. Immediately, Frisk bolted and Flowey started counting rapid-fire, barely giving MK and Noelle time to run.

Once Frisk ran into the trees, they leapt into the branches to try and give Flowey the slip.

"Hiding up high. Not bad," Asriel praised. "It'll take him a while to realize this is where you've gone."

From their new vantage point, Frisk was able to observe all that was going on below. Once Flowey reached zero, he vanished into the ground and a short while later, he appeared next to Noelle and tripped her with a vine, then tapped her.

"Ha! You're it!" he cheered rudely.

"Wow. Someone's mean,' Asriel remarked. Frisk would have responded, but they were using their hands to hold on to a couple branches to keep themself balanced.

Flowey disappeared into the ground again, leaving Noelle to get back up on her own. She rubbed her nose, which she had fallen on. She looked around and found MK and started running for him. As Frisk watched, she was able to catch up to MK and tag him, tapping him lightly enough that he didn't fall over. MK started combing the rest of the forest for either Frisk or Flowey, but he didn't seem to have much luck.

Eventually, he did find Flowey hiding in a couple bushes, but the flower burrowed into the ground to avoid getting tagged.

"That burrowing might give him an unfair advantage," Asriel noted. "If he can do that instantaneously, it would allow him to avoid getting tagged pretty much all the time. We need to come up with a rule to prevent that next round."

Meanwhile, MK was still trying to tag Flowey, but he just burrowed then reemerged a couple feet to the other side. He started giggling, imagining this as whack-a-mole and MK as the idiot wielding the hammer.

But MK was smarter than Flowey gave him credit and thanks to Noelle and Frisk's tutoring, was able to take an educated guess where Flowey would appear next and when he tried to smack Flowey with his face, he stopped just after Flowey disappeared, then shot his tail over to the spot he guessed Flowey would emerge, managing to smack him in his petal head with the tip of his tail.

"You're it!" MK cheered, then started to run away, only to get tripped by a vine.

"I don't think so!" Flowey said, raising a vine to tag MK.

"Foul!" Noelle cried out. "You can't tag the person that tagged you!"

"What! Why?" Flowey demanded, vine still raised.

"Dude, it's the rules!" MK said, getting back up. "You have to wait at least a minute before you can tag me. And this," MK kicked the vine that tripped him, "this is just uncool."

"Rrrr. Fine!" Flowey shouted. He retracted his vine. "Go run. I'll find someone else."

Frisk didn't like the way Flowey said that and from MK's expression, he didn't either. They watched Flowey, unseen, as he seemed to rant and rave at nothing.

"Someone's got a rather short temper," Asriel observed. "That's not exactly encouraging." He looked over at Frisk. "From your expression, I take it we're only going to trust that flower with a ten-foot pole?"

Frisk nodded.

"Thought so. No one who's genuinely interested in being friends would act so childish."

The game went on for a while longer. Flowey was unable to get Frisk, leaving the game between him, Noelle and MK. The two had to repeatedly correct the flower on how to play the game, especially as once he had his target, his preferred method of stopping them was to trip them then tag them while they were down.

After the fifth time in a row Noelle landed on her face, she had had enough and with Frisk's support, called the game off.

"Well, that was fun!" Flowey said.

"I do not concur!" MK rebutted, a little nasally from a swollen nose. He assured everyone that his nose wasn't broken, just bruised from falling all the time.

"Let's pick a different, less violent game," Noelle suggested.

'Let's do Hide-and-Seek,' Frisk suggested.

"That sounds safe!" MK agreed.

"I didn't catch that," Flowey said.

"We're going to play Hide-and-Seek," Noelle translated. "You know how to play that?"

"Please, any four-year-old knows that game," Flowey said rudely.

"Good, then you're the seeker!" MK said, which everyone unanimously agreed on.

"What! No! I was first last time!" Flowey said impudently.

"And you kept tripping us up," Noelle rebutted. "So you have to give us to… two hundred to hide. And you have to say each word clearly. No slurring like last time."

Frisk could see Flowey was stewing with anger at that. "Fine. But I'm starting now. So you'd better…" Before he finished, all three of them ran off. Frisk heard the flower start counting, then leapt back into the trees, going for a different spot this time.

"Well, at the very least, last game we learned a bit about Flowey," Asriel said. "He's either a really bad sport, or has played with someone who is too much."

'I think the first,' Frisk signed. Unlike last time, Frisk was able to sit on a branch and was able to perfectly balance themself on it so they didn't risk falling over. 'He seems to like cheating and unless someone tells him otherwise, he'll find a loophole and exploit it.'

"Huh. My friend Chara was a bit like that," Asriel mused. "Though, they were usually a bit nicer about it."

Once Frisk heard Flowey's shout of 'ready or not, here I come', they focused on the scene below them. Flowey burrowed into the ground again and was looking around, trying to find someone. Every time he resurfaced, it was in a different place.

As Frisk watched, their sharp ears caught the sound of leaves rustling. They looked up to see Noelle hiding in the trees as well.

'What are you doing up here?' Frisk asked.

'Hiding from Flowey,' she responded. 'Hey, do you trust this flower?'

Frisk shook their head. 'Remember when I said that right after I fell down here, I was attacked?'

'Yeah. What about it?'

Frisk glanced at the flower below them.

'He's the one who did it? Then why trust him now?'

'When I saw him earlier today, he said he was sorry and that he was the one that saved us from the humans.'

'Saved us?'

'Remember? We were about to have our throats cut when they suddenly fell. And that one human was about to shoot us, but a vine grabbed and threw him into a tree? That was apparently Flowey,' Frisk explained.

Noelle looked down in surprise. 'He saved us? Then why don't you trust him?'

'He's lying. I can tell,' Frisk explained. 'I'm not sure why, but I'm guessing he wants something from me. Something from 'the prince'.'

'Any idea what that might be?'

Frisk shook their head. 'For now, we're going to play along. Pretend to be friends with him until we find out what it is he wants from me.'

'Does that mean I have to be nice to him? Cause he's really mean.'

Frisk thought that over before an idea came to them. 'Actually, no, you don't. In fact, try to be as passive-aggressive as you can. It might make him slip up at some point and give a clue.'

Noelle looked nervous. 'Well, I guess I can try. I'll do the best I can. Hey, should we tell MK?'

'For now, no. At least one of us should be in the dark, to keep Flowey fooled. If we maintain his plausible deniability, it could come in handy in the long run.'

'Okay, I'll go along with this,' Noelle agreed. 'Is it wrong that I feel glad I get to embrace my negative feelings for this?'

'Nah. You could use something to vent on, anyway,' Frisk signed.

Just then, a shout came from somewhere nearby and it sounded like MK was annoyed.

'Guess he lost,' Frisk signed. 'Maybe you should lose, too. It will make your anger at him more justified.'

'I'll try. But he's going to have to work for it.' Noelle then started walking amongst the branches to a new place.

"This is a dangerous game we're playing, Frisk," Asriel cautioned. "It could strain your relationship with your friends."

'I know. But I'm willing to take that chance. Call me paranoid, but I don't trust Flowey one bit. We're going to get to the bottom of his game, whatever it takes.'
