"Is…is this real?!" Kirsty stammered as she read the result for herself having been brought in for the trial, the teenager was back to her normal look but the look on her face was anything but normal. "Rebecca really was my mom?!"
"DNA doesn't lie Kirsty, your DNA was a perfect match for Rebecca's, there's no denying that you were related to her." Jack assured her as Kirsty sat there in shock. "What's going through your mind right now?"
"Honestly? I'm conflicted, I'm happy I finally know who my mom was, I just wish she had told me before her death." Kirsty sighed as she put the result down on the table. "Don't suppose there's any id on my dad, is there?"
"Afraid not, we spoke to your grandparents and they don't even know who he was, only that he was an athlete at her high school." Serena responded as she shook her head and Kirsty nodded reluctantly. "His name wasn't mentioned in your CPS file either, unless he comes forward of his own volition it's unlikely that you'll ever meet your dad."
"I had a feeling that was a long shot anyway." Kirsty admitted with a sad sigh before she turned to the two lawyers. "So, what does this mean for the trial? I know Mike's lawyer tried to prevent the DNA test from happening with that TRO and, well, that just raises more questions."
"Your right, we're not entirely sure why Chris Andrews represented Jason Gallagher when he's defending a man accused of murdering his ex, unless this is another attempt by Jason to pin the crime on you." Jack responded with a nod as Kirsty leaned back. "For now? Go home and get some rest, we're not giving the opening statements until tomorrow morning, but I can confirm that the remainder of Rebecca's family is ready to welcome you into the fold with open arms."
"Are you serious?!" Kirsty asked clearly on the verge of tears upon hearing that and Jack nodded, it rook Kirsty a few seconds for it to sink in and she turned away from the lawyers in an attempt to hide her tears, and the big smile on her face. "I know her parents paid for my hospital bills but…"
"They told us as such themselves this is the second chance at life you wanted, don't waste it." Jack advised her and Kirsty finally looked up, being unable to contain her tears of joy or the big, warm smile on her face at this point, Jack passed her a tissue to wipe her eyes with and she took it before quickly nodding. "They are waiting to pick you up outside the DA's office, I'm sure you have a lot of questions."
"And about eighteen years' worth of Christmases and birthdays to catch up on." Kirsty sighed as she stood up and turned to Jack. "Didn't think I'd say this back when this whole ordeal started, but thanks, for everything."
"Save your thanks for when we put Rebecca's murderer and the men who assaulted you behind bars for the rest of their lives, at this point that's the only way we can bring closure to this whole thing." Jack advised her and Kirsty nodded before she made her way out of the DA's office. "I didn't think we'd be doing this much for a girl we were originally putting on trial for murder, hopefully this changes her life for the better."
"You saw how she reacted it was like a massive weight was lifted off her shoulders." Serena pointed out and Jack nodded in agreement. "All that's left is to make sure justice is served for her mother's murder."
"I have my opening arguments to prepare, Kirsty and the rest of the witnesses are all prepped, we just need to make sure we convince the jury that Mike and his friends are guilty." Jack responded with a nod before he went to leave the room. "I doubt anything else could surprise us about this case but we had better be prepared."
"Unless the defence calls Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy as rebuttal witnesses?" I doubt it." Serena nodded in agreement before the lawyers left.
*later at Kirsty's apartment*
It had been a long day for Kirsty, and for the first time in a while, that was a good thing for the teenager, she was ready to relax at her home now.
"I swear to god, if this is a dream and I'm still on trial for Rebecca's murder I'll kill whoever wakes me up!" Kirsty thought with a sigh as she entered the apartment and made her way through it. "Who am I kidding? If this was a dream hen I would've woke up the moment Ryan put that knife to my throat, this is as real as it gets and nothing could ruin this moment for me!" Kirsty thought before plopping down on the couch. "Then again, how exactly do I introduce myself to the members of Rebecca's family I haven't met? I haven't been good in introducing myself in like, ever, always relied on my looks to get a date…"
"Murderer, murderer, murderer…" Kirsty heard chanting from outside her bedroom window and went to investigate.
And immediately regretted it when she saw Jason Gallagher leading a crowd of protestors. "You've got to be fucking kidding me! It's been over a month since my charges were dropped, and he still acts like I'm the fucking antichrist!" Kirsty thought before shutting the window, drawing the curtains and laying down on her bed. "Where's my CD Player when I need it? Nothing like a bit of Slayer to drown out that bullshit! Hell, maybe even some Cannibal Corpse if they get persistent!"
Kirsty eventually found her CD Player and settled on Slayer's Reign in Blood album, by the time the album finished the protestors were long gone, either dispersed by police or scared off by her neighbors, either way Kirsty was lone with her thoughts for now.
"Damn it Rebecca, why didn't you tell me I was your daughter sooner?!" Kirsty thought with a frustrated grunt as she glanced over at a framed picture of the woman she now knew to be her birth mother that was on her bedside table, a gift she had been given for her eighteenth birthday. "My grandparents said that it was because she waned to wait until I was older, haven't I waited long enough?!"
"I'm afraid it was never that simple." Rebecca's voice rang out and Kirsty glanced up at the doorway seeing Rebecca as she remembered her from before she was murdered. "We were worried about how you'd take the news Kirsty."
"Yeah, well, better late than never I….." Kirsty nearly fell out of her bed from the shock as it sunk in, she steadied herself on the side of the bed as she looked up at her mom. "Mom?! Oh god, don't tell me I passed away in my sleep or something!"
"Thankfully no, I'm merely paying you a visit." Rebecca responded as she shook her head and Kirsty breathed a sigh of relief. "You have been through a lot since my death, including running away from the police."
"Yeah, I know, my grandparents got on my case about that too." Kirsty sighed as she ran a hand through her hair. "But I just panicked all right? I know it doesn't excuse it but knowing that I was a person with a record who was seen fleeing from your murder scene in bloodied clothes? I ran because I knew I'd be a top suspect." Kirsty sighed as she lowered her head. "I know I was innocent but even so, and you did end up being right about Mike and his pals."
"A mother's intuition is never wrong, you'll be a mother someday Kirsty, you'll understand." Rebecca responded and Kirsty quickly shook her head.
"Between Tyson getting me hooked on drugs in the first place and me nearly being sent to Death Row thanks to Mike? I'm not even sure if I want to date anyone again, much less have any kids." Kirsty admitted as she let out a deep breath and Rebecca nodded in understanding. "Though I know from my grandparents that I wasn't exactly planned so what do I know?"
"That was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, if I could go back and change it I would and I wish we could've made up for lost time before my death." Rebecca responded with a sad sigh and Kirsty nodded in understanding. "Just remember this Kirsten, you are better than you think you are, and my surviving family members will help you realize that."
"Kirsten? No one's referred to me by that name since I was eight." Kirsty muttered to herself as she brushed some hair over her shoulder. "I know it's my full birth name but I just came to prefer being called Kirsty over time."
"Regardless of what name you go by, you are still my daughter." Rebecca assured her as she placed a hand on Kirsty's shoulder. "And in spite of all your mistakes? I couldn't be prouder of that fact I have to go but I will be watching the trial." Rebecca added before there was a bright flash.
*in the real world*
Kirsty woke up with a start and realized that she was still alone in her apartment, she sat up and glanced at the alarm clock, realizing that it was three in the morning.
"I must be the only girl in New York who can fall asleep listening to Slayer." Kirsty thought as she realized that her cd player's ear buds were still in her ears, she quickly removed them and sighed as she lay back in her bed. "I should get back to sleep, I'll need to be well rested for the trial tomorrow." Kirsty thought as he lay back in her bed. "Should I tell anyone about that dream? No, the defence would try to use it to make me look insane, don't know if I'd have any credibility after that." Kirsty thought before glancing down at her outfit and realizing that she was still in her day clothes. "And neither would showing up to court in an outfit I literally slept in! good thing I have a change of clothes."
Kirsty promptly got out of bed and started getting changed into her pyjamas, but right as she had put her pyjama top on her mobile rang and she answered it. "Oh good, you're awake."
"Yeah it's almost like no sane person is awake at three in the fucking morning." Kirsty responded sarcastically as she sat down on her bed right before she realized that she didn't recognize the voice on the other end. "Who is this?!"
"You'll find out soon enough little girl but we need to talk about your ex's murder trial." The voice on the other end responded sending up red flags in her mind. "Now, you can tell the truth or you can lie on the stand and live!"
"A death threat, great! I'm surprised it took this long for those to start coming in after Jason's witch hunt!" Kirsty groaned but before she could say anything else the caller hung up and she went to redial. "Great, it's probably a disposable cell! I'm not going to be intimidated, I'll go to the cops with this first thing in the morning." Kirsty thought before putting her phone back on the bedside table and going back to sleep.
*the next day, at the NYPD*
"And you're certain that you didn't recognize this voice?" Lennie asked Kirsty as she recounted the events of the previous night (sans the dream) and the teenager nodded. "We take death threats seriously Kirsty, especially when they are made against witnesses at murder trials, you did the right thing by coming in."
"Yeah well, after all the crap I went through since I found Rebecca's body, I wasn't about to let some guy too cowardly to threaten a petite girl like me to my face get away with it." Kirsty responded as she shook her head and Lennie nodded. "I'll give you my cell phone if you need it, I'm due to get a new one anyway."
"Good, that way we can get it down to forensics pronto." Lennie nodded in approval before Kirsty handed her the cell phone. "Can you think of anyone who'd do this?"
"Only Ryan, Justin and Mike and I don't think even they are stupid enough to threaten me in the middle of a murder trial, never mind the fact that you've seen them get a bit more direct with that." Kirsty responded as she shook her head and Lennie nodded. "As for my neighbours? Only problems I've had with them is when I play metal too loud but that never escalated any further than that."
"We'll ask around them, see if they've noticed anyone new in the area, but you're right, it's likely isn't them." Lennie nodded in agreement before writing down his notes. "In the meantime, Ed will take you down to the courthouse for your testimony, I'll make sure to call Jack to let him know why you're late."
"Thanks." Kirsty thanked him before Ed led her out of the building.
*later over at the courthouse*
The court case had been wearing on for several hours now with everyone who was scheduled to testify against the three men having said their piece, but now it was Kirsty's turn.
"Kirsty, why don't we start from the beginning?" Jack asked her once she had been sworn in and Kirsty made herself comfortable whilst Mike, Ryan and Justin watched on. "Can you describe the events leading up to the discovery of Rebecca's body?"
"I wasn't really paying much attention, just walking down the street and listening to music on my CD Player." Kirsty explained as she shifted her weight. "I went down that alley because I've used it as a shortcut home before and that was when my foot caught on something and I fell over." Kirsty let out a deep breath before continuing. "That something being Rebecca's body, I had managed to land in her blood getting it all over my clothes and I grabbed onto a nearby knife as I pulled myself up."
"People's 80 and People's 81 your honour." Jack stated before he grabbed the bloody clothes and the knife. "These are the clothes you wore that night, correct?"
"Yeah, that's them." Kirsty nodded as she recognized her outfit from that night. "And that's the knife I grabbed onto."
"What did you do upon realizing the gravity of the situation?" Jack asked after he put the evidence down and Kirsty hesitated. "Remember, you are under oath."
"I panicked alright? I knew that with my record I would shoot to the top of the suspect list once they found my fingerprints so I just ran straight home, running into that girl in the process." Kirsty admitted as she glanced over at Mike. "When I got home Mike called me, I knew I couldn't stay so I opted to stay at his apartment until things calmed down back home, instead I was threatened by Ryan and Justin and that….."
"Objection! Hearsay!" Chris interjected and Kirsty stopped in her tracks. "There is no record of this encounter happening or anyone who can back up her words."
"Sustained! Move along Councillor." Judge Cohen instructed McCoy who nodded.
"When you were arrested under suspicion of murder, the clothes were brought to the police station by a third party." Jack said once Chris sat back down. "Is that third party in this courtroom?"
"Yeah." Kirsty nodded before pointing to Mike. "Mike, who was my boyfriend at the time, brought the clothes in."
"No further questions for this witness." Jack announced before he went to return to his table and Chris stood up.
"How many times have you been arrested Ms. Mason?" Chris asked and before Kirsty could answer the Jack interjected,
"Objection! Your honour, the defence can't suppress evidence of the defendant's past crimes and expect to be able to bring up a witness's record!" Jack asserted and before Chris could answer Judge nodded in agreement.
"Sustained! The girl's criminal past, if she has one, is off limits!" Judge Cohen announced and Chris frowned.
"You went to rehab on your fifteenth birthday didn't you?" Chris asked and McCoy went to object again. "Goes to her credibility your honour."
"And if she has done a stint in rehab, then it's covered under her past crimes, move along!" Judge Cohen responded with growing anger and Chris's frown deepened.
"You were initially put on trial for this murder, weren't you Ms. Mason?" Chris asked and Kirsty hesitated. "Permission to treat the witness as hostile?"
"Go ahead." Cohen nodded before Kirsty answered.
"Yeah, and those charges were dropped because he tried to send me to death row." Kirsty responded as she motioned to Mike. "Yet he acted surprised when I was angry at the sight of him waiting for me on the steps!"
"Move to strike the witnesses' last statement." Chris responded almost immediately and Judge Cohen nodded.
"Jury will disregard the last statement." Judge Cohen responded at which point Chris moved on.
"This is all just a convenient cover story for you isn't it? Your boyfriend isn't measuring up to your standards, you commit this horrific crime and then point the fingers at him? And for what? So you could move on to your next squeeze? Or were your happy pills not working that day?" Chris asked and Kirsty rapidly shook her head at each question, all the while Jack kept objecting only to be ignored. "You're a former drug addict and you've been on mental health pills for most of your adult life, who are we supposed to believe? A crazy woman or her ex-boyfriend who tried to do some good in the world?!"
"No, that's not how it happened at all!" Kirsty insisted as she tried to hold back her tears and Chris shook his head. "Why would I kill Rebecca? She got me out of that life of crime, paid for my rehab, basically ensured that I could live a normal life!"
"Why don't you tell us? Because I think Rebecca got tired of paying for your life and when her finances dried up, you snapped!" Chris insisted over the increasing volume of Jack's objections. "Your nothing but a spoiled, crazy foster kid who is being cuddled by the DA because you are a pretty white girl trying to pin a horrific crime on your ex boyfriend, is it because he's Italian American or was he just an easy target?!"
"OBJECTION! Your honour, the defence council is completely out of line!" Jack finally made his voice heard as he could see from there that Kirsty was on the verge of tears.
"Sustained! And if the defence council continues with that line of questioning, I'll issue a mistrial and bury him in sanctions." Judge Cohen warned Chris at which point Chris wisely backed off.
"No further questions for this witness." Chris commented as he returned to his desk at which point Jack stood up.
"Redirect your honour?" Jack asked and Judge Cohen nodded before Jack approached Kirsty in the witness box. "Kirsty, what attracted you to Mike in the first place?"
"I don't know, I just saw him as a tall, dark and handsome guy who'd defend me, I didn't even realize he was Italian American until he told me." Kirsty responded as she shook her head. "And that was down to me not knowing many Italian American kids in foster care, not whatever he was implying."
"That's fine, we'll move on because it's clear that this is upsetting you." Jack responded with a nod and Kirsty gave him a thankful look. "Kirsty, who prescribed you those pills?"
"My shrink, I'm required to see him at least once a week as a condition of my rehab." Kirsty responded as she started to calm down and Jack nodded. "I'm not a violent person, I swear!"
"What about that incident on the court steps?" Jack asked as he held up a newspaper from that day. "Care to explain that?"
"I had been dating Mike for about a year by that point, I thought I could trust him., until I learned that he was trying to set me up for this murder." Kirsty sighed as she rubbed her arm uncomfortably. "I broke up with his via text the same day."
"One final question." Jack stated and Kirsty nodded as she wiped a few tears away. "Aside from the pills for your mental health, have you taken any drugs since leaving rehab?"
"No sir." Kirsty quickly shook her head at which point Chris lowered his head. "I've been sober for two years now, that's not a life I ever want to go back too."
"No further questions." Jack responded as he returned to his desk.
"Court is recessed until tomorrow." Judge Cohen announced before he banged his gavel and the court dispersed.
*five minutes later*
"If Chris's tactic was to turn the jury against Kirsty he failed miserably." Jack commented as he walked down the hallway alongside Serena. "Nothing like driving a recent assault victim to the verge of tears to turn the jury against you."
"That's if they haven't already been turned against her by Jason Gallagher's witch hunt." Serena responded as she shook her head and Jack nodded. "She reported to Detective Briscoe that she had gotten a death threat last night, the police are looking into it."
"As if that girl hasn't been through enough." Jack commented as he shook his head before he heard Chris clearing his throat behind them and continued to walk. "We're not interested in anything you have to say Chris, count your losses and wait for the jury to decide."
"I think you will be interested in what I have to say." Chris responded and Hack and Serena continued to walk away from him. "What if I told you that Rebecca's murder was a murder for hire?"
"Excuse me?!" Jack asked as he stopped in his tracks and turned to the legal aid lawyer. "Someone paid to have a police office murdered?! Who?"
"Not here, not out in the open, but Mike has shown me bank statements that back up his words." Chris responded and the two ADAs shared a look. "If the information is good, will you take the Death Penalty off the table?"
"If the information is good." Jack responded as he shook his head and Chris motioned for them to follow him.
*later, at Kirsty's apartment*
"That son of a bitch!" Kirsty thought as she sat down in her home, clearly still upset over how her testimony went. "I thought I could trust Mike with that info, instead he went and used it against me! Why do I even bother with love? It always hurts me in the end!" Kirsty thought as she glanced up at her medication and shook her head. "No, there's gotta be a decent guy out there waiting for me! My boyfriends can't all be complete shitbags like Mike or Tyson, can they?!"
Kirsty's train of thought was interrupted by a knock at the door and she went to answer it seeing Steve and his wife at the done. "Hey, we heard about what happened at court today, you feeling okay?"
"Mike's lawyer got so personal that it pissed off Jack and the judge, what do you think?" Kirsty asked as she let out a deep breath before leaning against the door frame with her arms crossed. "I should've listened to you guys long ago because this whole ordeal has exposed just how wrong I was about Mike!"
"You're still young Kirsty, you'll learn from this." Steve's wife assured her and Kirsty let out a deep breath.
"Even if I was old enough to drink I wouldn't have a drinking game for every time my age has been pointed out since I discovered Rebecca's body,, I think my liver would be filing domestic abuse charges if I did." Kirsty thought before sighing. "Yeah, I know, just sucks to have to learn from the School of Hard Knocks whilst my ex-boyfriend is on trial for murder!"
"We didn't mean to condescend you Kirsty, we're just looking out for you." Steve assured and Kirsty nodded as she got the idea. "And after those thugs attacked you? We're just glad you're alive."
"I never did properly thank you or Earl for that, did I? Been so busy with this trial that I haven't really spent much time here." Kirsty admitted with a sigh as she glanced at the far wall where Ryan and Justin attacked her. "Still on painkillers but I'll take that over bleeding to death all over the carpet because some asshole decided that I needed a new hole in my throat!" Kirsty sighed before brushing some hair over her shoulder. "Look, I know Earl's been out of town visiting relatives but let him know I said thanks if I'm not around for whatever reason?"
"We'll make sure you can tell him yourself." Steve assured her and Kirsty grinned in response, a few seconds later the eighteen-year old's stomach rumbled and Kirsty sighed. "You haven't eaten all day, have you?"
"Another joy of waiting all day for your testimony in court." Kirsty admitted as she shook her head before she went into her kitchen to check the fridge and found it empty. "I should be getting the money from Rebe…oh, right, Rebecca's bank account closed when she died." Kirsty thought before closing the fridge door. "I've still got a couple of hundred dollars left in my account from the last transfer before her murder, but will that be enough?"
"Kirsty? Is everything okay?" Kirsty glanced up and saw Steve's wife in her kitchen doorway. "Is there anything in your fridge?"
"Nope! And Rebecca's not around to send me money for groceries either." Kirsty sighed as she looked at her fridge. "I've still got money left over in my account from the last transfer but I doubt it'll be enough to last me."
"We'll take care of that for you." Steve chimed in and Kirsty quickly shook her head. "Kirsty, you've still got that trial going on, don't worry about it."
"And you've done enough for me Steve, I can handle this!" Kirsty responded before opening the fridge again and sighing. "Okay, maybe not, I haven't even checked the cupboards or anything."
"Hope I'm not interrupting anything." Lennie's voice rang out and Kirsty looked up seeing the much older detective at her door. "But I need to talk to Kirsty, there's been a development in the case of her ex-boyfriend and McCoy sent me to get her."
"You go with the detective we'll make sure you've got a full kitchen by the time you get back." Steve's wife assured her and Kirsty nodded before leaving with Lennie.
"Don't suppose we can get something to eat on the way to the DA's office, could we?" Kirsty asked as she glanced up at Lennie. "I haven't eaten all day and my kitchen is bare bones."
"We'll stop for a pizza on the way too, just don't tell anyone." Lennie nodded in response and Kirsty grinned before leaving with him.
*later at the DA's office*
"This is a case that has seen many a twist and turn." Jack stated as he walked around the side office in front of the suspect. "First, we thought Kirsty Mason was behind the killing, then the charges against her were dismissed and she's been retroactively exonerated, then the focus of the case shifted towards Kirsty's boyfriend Mike DiFranco who has admitted to being paid to kill Rebecca Gallagher." Jack said as he sat down opposite the suspect. "And now we've come to the final twist of the case, one no one saw coming, you ordered your ex-wife's death, didn't you Jason?"
"This is ridiculous!" Jason insisted as he sat alongside his lawyer. "Your believing the words of two convicted felons that I'd do something like that?! My divorce with Rebecca was amicable, the relationship was falling apart, we agreed on that and decided to end it before it deteriorated further!"
"Was it? We talked to your divorce lawyer, the meetings between you and Rebecca turned nasty nine times out of ten." Serena responded as she leaned forward. "Normally those conversations would be covered by privilege, but you're the presence of a third party, your wife in this case, nullifies it."
"And I'll argue that the conversations were privileged and won't see the light of day in court." Jason's lawyer responded before Jack passed them a printout. "What is this?"
"Bank statements from Mike DiFranco, surrendered by Mike himself and unlike Kirsty's bloody clothes, there's a lot of truth behind it." Jack responded as he pointed to the highlighted portion. "Mike received that payment of a hundred thousand dollars the morning before Rebecca's death, we traced that payment back your account."
"Rebecca cleaned me out in the divorce, where would I get that kind of money?!" Jason demanded and Jack shook his head.
"You could if your remortgage your old house." Jack responded as he handed him another printout and Jason's face fell. "It's time to come clean Jason…."
"I DID IT OKAY? I paid those thugs to kill Rebecca and it's all the fault of that little spoiled brat!" Jason snapped at the two lawyers and his lawyer tried to stop him. "Things started to fall apart when Rebecca started to send money to some girl she arrested on the job, she had so much money for that spoiled brat but not me?!"
"Kirsty?" Serena asked and Jason quickly nodded. "Is that why Mike tried to frame her for the murder?"
"That was a happy accident! We hadn't planned on Kirsty being the one to discover her body but when she told Mike, he called me and concocted the plan, figured I'd kill two birds with one stone!" Jason added as he let out a deep breath. "And when Mike fumbled the initial plan I told him to send his buddies to her apartment to finish the job but they couldn't even get THAT right! How hard is it for three huge guys to kill one teenaged girl who happened to be my wife's daughter?!"
"Wait, what?!" Serena asked as it hit the two lawyers like a ton of brick. "You knew all along that Kirsty was your stepdaughter?!"
"Rebecca never said as much but give me a break! That brat is practically the splitting image of my wife when she was eighteen, I've seen the pictures!" Jason responded and Jack and Serena shared a look. "I only wish that I had cut out the middleman and killed that brat myself."
Jack and Serena shared a look for a few brief seconds before Jack pressed a button on the desk. "Bring her in please."
"Her?" Jason asked before the door opened and he looked up. "Kirsty?!" Jason gasped as he saw the teenager enter the office with an enraged look on her face. "I can explain everything I….."
"Save it!" Kirsty snapped as she glared at Jason. "I heard everything and you have nothing to explain to me!"
"We had brought Kirsty in so she could see who was ultimately responsible for her mother's death and everything that had happened since then." Jack added as all colour drained from Jason's face. "Kirsty, are you willing to testify to everything you just heard?"
"Couldn't keep me away from that courtroom if you tried." Kirsty nodded without hesitation before Jason's lawyer chimed in.
"Hold it, hold it, surely there's a deal we can work out?" Jason's lawyer asked as desperation set in. "I was in court when Chris Andrews cross examined this girl, do you really want to put her through that again?!"
"He paid three thugs to ambush and kill his ex-wife, a cop, there is no deal on the table for this." Jack responded coldly as he folded his arms. "And I'm sure you won't go as far as Andrews did."
"What if I took over from where my ex-wife left off? Send her half of what I make a month, that's more than what Rebecca made in a week!" Jason tried desperately to get out of his punishment and Kirsty quickly shook her head. "Kirsty please…."
"Oh, NOW you give a shit about me?!" Kirsty snapped at Jason who stopped cold. "Keep your blood money you son of a bitch! Rebecca's family welcomed me in after I was officially confirmed to be Rebecca's daughter, they'll look after me better than you ever could!"
"And make no mistake, we will be seeking the death penalty for this." Jack added as Jason sat there in shock. "You can ask the judge for leniency at sentencing but I doubt you'll get it!" Jack added before he went to leave with Serena but Kirsty stormed out of the room first, clearly not bearing to spend another second in the same room as Jason.
