Poseidon cradled his cup of coffee in his hands as he was seated at the kitchen table.
Neither Poseidon nor Amphitrite made any attempt to communicate with each other. The stain on the kitchen table kept their brains contempt.
Poseidon has shown Amphitrite the letter once he came home, and she hasn't spoke since. He could feel the anxiety radiating off his wife, he would have comforted her, but in order for him to do that, he himself will need to put up a strong front. Which he wasn't fooling anyone with if he tried.
Poseidon raised his eyes from the table once the front door opened. Percy entered the house looking very uncertain. Poseidon gestured for him to sit down at the table, and did the same with Triton.
"As you both know, your grandfather knows who you are and made contact." Poseidon ended his silence.
Percy nodded while Triton looked like he wanted to be anywhere else.
"As I said he is a dangerous man. Percy there are some things I need to tell you, so you can understand how psychotic this man is."
Percy crossed his arms "Do you mean what he did to Bianca?"
Poseidon's back stiffened, Percy wasn't supposed to know about that. Poseidon made sure to not tell Percy of his grandfather's actions.
Poseidon glanced to his wife, and she shook her head confirming that she wasn't the one who spilled the beans. He then transferred his glance to his eldest.
"I didn't tell him." Triton blurted out and held his hands in surrender.
Percy raised his brow, "Thalia told me. She thought that I would have known that by now."
Poseidon let out a quiet hiss. Of course it was Thalia. Poseidon shrugged trying to distance the blame from himself, "Well I kinda of hoped I didn't need to, but after yesterday... There's more you need to know. "
Percy raised his other brow, intrigued. After Poseidon's father purposely ran over Bianca and got away with it, Poseidon swore he wouldn't involve his youngest son with the family conflict. As of yesterday that promise had no other choice but to be broken.
"My father never approved of your mother and I's relationship." Poseidon could feel his wife stiffened at the mention of his ex-fiancé "He's very money oriented, and you know your mother wasn't fortunate when it comes to wealth. I cut contact with him after voicing his displeasures, but he didn't stop."
"It all really started after you were born Percy. He left us threats, saying he was gonna make us bankrupt or make us unemployed. It made your mother and I very uneasy at first, but we ignored it. Then those threats turned into death threats, that is why your mother and I broke it off. We didn't want our relationship to end up killing one of us or you. So we split for your safety."
Amphitrite cleared her throat and shifted in her seat, clearly uncomfortable.
"Everything stopped afterwards. It wasn't until Bianca's death that I was informed about his possible involvement. Hades was getting those threats for being with Maria, and Zeus was also being with his multiple affairs. None of us pieced together that it was happening to each of us, until Bianca's funeral Hades mentioned the threats. We haven't heard anything else from our father, until yesterday."
Poseidon set down the coffee cup and looked intensely at both of his sons. He needed them to understand how dire the situation really is.
"My father doesn't make idle threats. He did try multiple times to make me bankrupt and unemployed, though the attempts failed. He made threats towards Bianca and succeeded."
Poseidon took the letter out of his pocket. He shielded what was written from his sons, but showed them that there was indeed a letter.
Poseidon let out a deep sigh before informing his sons. "Sons. I received this letter on my desk at work. It's a death threat directed at the both of you."
"Your grandfather is a very powerful man. You need to know that no one is gonna help us. This man showed that he is above the law and can commit any crime he pleases. Both of you need to be vigilant at all times. This is very serious."
Percy nodded slowly while Triton wore no expression.
Poseidon nodded back relieved that at least Percy was taking it seriously. He dismissed Percy with a wave of his hand. Percy got up and headed towards his room.
Triton started to stand from his seat.
"Sit back down, Triton." Poseidon commanded.
Triton slunk back down onto the chair, crossing his arms.
"You are aware of how serious this is, right?" Poseidon asked seeking confirmation.
Triton rolled his eyes and nodded, which made Poseidon's eye twitch.
"Well, you don't seem to be taking it seriously. This is the most dire situationally you have ever been in, and you're just sitting there without a care in the world. Hell, even your
half-twit brother has a better understanding than you." Amphitrite grumbled.
Poseidon furrowed his brow unsure if his wife insulted his youngest son or not.
"And what is with your attitude? The past couple weeks you have been running your mouth and acting like a narcissistic asshole-"
"Amphitrite. I think that's enough." Poseidon nudged his wife, surprised at her outburst.
Triton stared at his mother taken aback. He glanced between his mother and father, "Am I excused?"
Amphitrite snorted throwing her arms in the air, "I don't know why I still bother? You're excused."
Triton booked it upstairs before Poseidon could blink.
Amphitrite began to bury her head into her hands and letting a out a groan.
Poseidon took his hand and placed it upon his wife shoulder, slightly rubbing it in comfort. "Everything is going to be alright. I'll make sure nothing will happen to either of them."
Amphitrite sighed in response, the stress present in her tense stature.
Poseidon got up from the table to start tidying up before his siblings showed up.
All of his siblings are coming over tonight along with their family. It's the first time everyone has been together in nine years. The last event where everyone besides Percy was in attendance, ended up in a fight between Hades and Demeter.
Poseidon was not looking forward to the get-together. However, he knew it needed to be done. Anything involving their father needed to be shared with every sibling. None of Kronos's children were liked by Kronos, they were all tiny bugs that Kronos would eat if he could.
As Poseidon finished putting the coffee away, Hades came in.
Poseidon shared a grimace with his older brother. Hades seemed exhausted, well more exhausted than usual.
Hades and his wife Persephone sat down at the kitchen table, across from Amphitrite who hasn't gotten up from her seat.
Nico followed in a second later, wiping - what looked like to Poseidon - dog drool from his face. Poseidon gave the boy a crooked smile in attempts to ease his nerves and also to apologize if it was indeed Mrs. O'Leary's drool on his face.
Poseidon looked back down at the grounded coffee container he was holding, and decided it might be best if he just left it out.
"Would anyone like coffee?"
Hades grunted in approval. Poseidon got to work by making a batch, while furrowing his brow.
"You're the one who likes it black, right?"
Hades hummed in response twiddling his thumbs.
As Poseidon handed Hades a mug filled with coffee without any cream or sugar, he could hear Hestia scolding Demeter over something.
Poseidon's shoulders dropped while Hades's tensed. As he mentioned earlier Hades and Demeter did not get along. After Hades married Persephone, he cut contact from Demeter as she tried to object during the matrimony.
Hestia dragged Demeter in the kitchen, with Percy trailing behind. Poseidon could tell by one glance at his son's face, Demeter said something rather unsavory.
Hades started off the inevitable fight by glaring at Demeter, letting out a low growl; a growl matching one of the canines whose boundaries are being crossed. While Demeter met his glare while sneering at him, crossing her arms.
Poseidon let out a sigh bracing himself for a fight. Hestia tried to dismantle the growing tension by clearing her throat as a reminder for everyone to behave. Demeter let out a snarl, completely ignoring Hestia's warning. Before Hestia could reprimand her, the final guests arrived.
Zeus adjoined by his wife and his six offsprings. All of their expressions resembled one of a grim reaper, which usually adjourned their brother or uncle's face.
Zeus eldest son Hephaestus wore a sour grimace. It made his large birthmark that covered the left side of his face even more unflattering.
Apollo's usual chipper mood was replaced by a solemn one. He fiddled with his bracelet he wore around his wrist.
Apollo's twin Artemis look rather uncomfortable, but held her head up high. Artemis never seemed comfortable around any man. At first Poseidon chalked it up to being the twin to an obnoxious brother. After it continued through the years, he wasn't quite sure to what the actual cause was.
Ares stood tall. Ares had the body of two body builders put together. His muscles was tight against his clothing, it was basically tearing at the sleeves of his loose short sleeve T-Shirt. Out of all of siblings, Ares looked the least bothered. It makes sense, Ares just got back from his tour in Afghanistan. Nothing will probably ever make Ares feel any emotion.
Thalia and Jason looked the most bothered. They were young when Bianca was killed. They're still young! Poseidon thought with a grimace. They were all young, his oldest nephew was only twenty three!
Triton snuck in behind the group taking a seat. Once everyone was seated Poseidon gave a nod to start the meeting.
It took an awkward minute before Hades spoke, "Are we sure that this is the first encounter with him?"
Poseidon nodded "To my knowledge, yes it is. He's left threats back when I lived in San Francisco, but that stopped when I moved back. There wasn't any indication of him until Bianca-," Nico flinched at her name.
Poseidon cleared his throat until continuing. "There hasn't been a sign of him until yesterday, and then he left this note this morning."
Poseidon narrowed his eyes at the expression on his brother's face. Hades wore a face of contemplation, which couldn't end well. Especially if Hades was staring at Percy
"Percy, do you remember anything about the car accident in San Francisco? Did you happen to see the driver from the other vehicle?" Hades asked.
Poseidon closed his eyes. He wished Hades would've voice that conspiracy with him before bringing it up in front of his son.
Percy straighten out his back "You're not insinuating that he was the cause of it?"
Poseidon shook his head. "Father would've gloat about it in the letter if that was him."
Zeus let out a nervous laugh, "That he would. Though it is strange for him to come out of the blue like this. Why now? I would've thought after you separated from Percy's mother that it would've stopped."
That's one hell of a question! Poseidon shrugged looking just as lost as everyone else did.
Hestia picked up the letter that was laying on top of the table. "There needs to be another reason for his arrival other than Percy being here. He would've done something during the summers when Percy was here. This threat isn't targeted alone at Percy but also at Triton."
Poseidon buried his head in his hands. "I'm very confused as to why. Father never voiced his displeasures with Amphitrite. I'm not sure why Triton is included in the threat. My only guess is to get back at me, for what I'm not sure?"
Everyone's eyes shifted to look at Triton who sat quietly, not caring for anything. He just shrugged not giving any indication if he knew anything.
Hades shifted foreword, "Well whatever his reason, he means business. I think we all need to be on high alert. His threat could spread to each one of us and we shouldn't be caught off guard."
The whole table hummed in unison.
I created another fic to the series - Wherever It Floats. It will be a collection of one shots consisting of flashbacks, extended scenes, or some chapters written in Triton's P.O.V. The first one-shot has already been posted - Poseidon and Zeus Makes A Cake - it was a brief mention in Chapter 8 of Living with Complications and Chapter 7 of Flooding of the unexpected.
I wouldn't expect frequent uploads to Wherever it Floats as I'm not writing the chapters ahead of time. I will be publishing as I write and proofread.
