January
Poseidon sat besides Bessie's tank. She has been here for over three weeks and she was due to be released in the next two weeks.
Poseidon dropped the rest of the manatee's food into the tank, watching as the sea cow munched on the food.
"What a beauty she is. I'll admit I'm going to miss her when she leaves." Delphin said after checking her.
"Beauty? She's the freakiest thing we have here. Manatees have a face of a walrus, minus the tusks. The body of a seal, and the tail of a mermaid." Nerus snorted.
"You take that back old man! Bessie is not freaky! And I'll have you know that having a mermaid's tail is cool!"
Poseidon rolled his eyes as his colleagues bickered. He knew better than to get involved between any argument the two of them got in.
Poseidon's phone interrupted their argument, as it started to ring.
"For the love of the gods, please tell me that's not a rescue call!" Nerus pleaded.
Poseidon checked his phone and frowned.
"No it's not. It's my wife." Poseidon said answering the call while heading towards his office.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Did you get a call from the school?" Amphitrite asked out of breath.
"No, I haven't. Was there another fight?" Poseidon asked sagging into his chair with his hand rubbing his forehead.
"No. Triton had an allergic reaction, and is on the way to the hospital via an ambulance. It's school policy to do so."
Poseidon sat up straighter. "Now? How did he come in contact with olives? It's only ten in the morning as he had already ate breakfast that did not contain olives at home."
"I don't know what food he ingested that had been contaminated. The school didn't give much details. All I know is he is heading towards the emergency room closest to your aquarium. I'm about twenty five minutes out if traffic isn't too bad, I know you'll get there sooner."
"I'm on my way. Triton always carries his two epipens, he should be fine." Poseidon tried to comfort his wife while grabbing his keys
"I hope so."
"I'll see you when you get there."
"I'll see you. Bye."
Poseidon hung up, shrugging his jacket on. He strolled out of his office.
"Not good news then?" Delphin asked.
"Somehow Triton consumed something that was contaminated with olives. Nerus can you take over?"
"Yes I can. Your sons have the worst luck, Poseidon."
"Don't I know it." Poseidon muttered while exiting through the door.
He took out his phone and texted Percy to let him know the situation. He hit send as he was sitting down in the driver's seat in his car.
He took off as soon as he put the seatbelt on.
"Hey, I just heard that my son was sent here after having an allergic reaction." Poseidon said to the lady who was at the front desk.
"What is the name and age of your son?"
"Triton Olympion, he's eighteen."
The lady's nails clicked on the keyboard as she typed.
"I'll need your ID, Sir."
Poseidon grabbed his ID from his wallet, and handed it to the lady. She took a glance at it before handing it back.
"Alright I have a note on file. It says Apollo will take you to his room. Do you know Apollo? It isn't usual for staff to be assigned to usher family members of the patient."
"Yeah, he's my nephew."
"I see. I'll send a page and he'll be here shortly."
The lady typed a few more details while Poseidon sat down waiting for his nephew to show.
Poseidon's hope didn't rise upon seeing Apollo. Apollo's face was set in a frown while his pace is urgent.
Apollo gestured for him to follow. Poseidon got up to his feet and walked towards his nephew. Apollo opened the door to his right and gestured for him to enter.
Poseidon entered but was confused, "Why are we in a closet? Where's Triton?"
Apollo shut the door behind him, "I needed to talk with you alone."
Poseidon gestured for him to continue.
"I talked to Triton when he arrived. He said he hasn't ate anything besides his breakfast he consumed hours ago, which he was sure it didn't contain any olives. He said the only thing he consumed in school was his water."
Apollo let out a breath, " I checked his water and it had several whole olives in it. I asked Triton about it, and he had no knowledge of the olives in there. He said no one touched his water that he knows of, but left his water bottle unattended while he practiced swimming."
Poseidon frowned. Who would put olives in his water? No one really knew of his allergy, and it's not a normal thing to slip olives into someone's water.
"Uncle P, both of his epipens failed."
Poseidon snapped his head to fully look at Apollo, "What do you mean it failed? We just picked up his prescription six weeks ago as his old ones expired. Those are new, they shouldn't have failed. Is he okay, did he get the medication on time?"
"The ambulance got to the school on time. They were the ones to administer the epinephrine as his failed. He will be fine and recover. Now all of the doctors are shocked as to why both epipens failed and is looking into them. Though I have a theory, which is why I pulled you aside."
Apollo lowered his voice to a whisper and stepped closer to Poseidon. "Did you get any more letters from grandfather?"
Poseidon felt instantly ill. He hasn't forgotten about his father, but he was hoping that it was the one instance. Poseidon gut told him this unexplainable event had to be caused by his father, he didn't need a letter to tell him that.
Poseidon shook his head, "I didn't see one."
Apollo nodded, before directing him back into the hallway.
"Now I must warn you, he's very swollen. It's one of the most severe swelling I've ever seen. The doctor's have given him a generous amount of Benadryl, but it hasn't subsided the swelling quite yet."
Apollo stopped before a closed curtain and gestured that this where his son was held.
Poseidon nodded, "Amphitrite should be coming in the next five minutes. Can you wait for her and bring her back when she arrives?"
"Sure thing, Uncle P! The nurses are literally around the corner if Triton relapses."
Apollo walked of towards the main entrance to wait for Poseidon's wife. Poseidon took a breath before drawing back the curtain.
Apollo wasn't joking about the swelling. Triton's face was swollen to the point his eyes are almost swollen shut.
Poseidon winced at the sight. "Hey Triton, I see you're not having the best of days."
Poseidon couldn't tell if Triton was glaring at him or not due to the swelling.
"Are you feeling better with the Benadryl they administered?"
Triton groaned, "Not at this moment, no."
Poseidon winced again at the sound of his hoarse voice. He sat down on one of the chairs next to the bed.
Poseidon rubbed his hands together "I need to ask some questions as it's very unusual to have olives inside of a water bottle. Did you see anyone put olives inside of your water bottle?"
"If I did I wouldn't have drank out of it."
"Did you see your grandfather at school today?"
"No."
The curtain drew open as Apollo and Amphitrite stepped in. Amphitrite was pale as she held what looked to be a letter envelope in her hand.
Amphitrite held out the envelope to her husband, "I parked next to your car, and this was under your windshield wipers."
Poseidon felt the color of his face drain. His gut already told him the culprit, but to actually have your suspicions confirmed in your hands was something else.
Poseidon nodded and took the envelope from her hand. He stood up, "I'm gonna make some calls, I'll be back."
He exited the area and opened the envelope.
My ungrateful son Poseidon,
You're predictable. I knew you wouldn't have done anything, so I figured you needed a motivator. You're eldest happens to have a severe allergic reaction to olives, doesn't he? It will be a real shame if someone would put half a jar of olives in his water bottle, wouldn't it?
Here's my point; If you don't do what I want, more instances like today will happen. You know what I want.
Give your sons over to me and I'll finally be the guardian that I should be. My children never bowed down to me, if it wasn't for your damn mother...
Let me have custody over your sons, Poseidon. I'll raise them right, to have them bow down to me. If you don't hand over custody, than we might have one or two less members of the family.
I'll be watching you
-Kronos
Poseidon folded the letter in anger. That's what he wants, custody?
He wouldn't let his father have it anyways, as the main reason for it is to fuel his ego trip. Kronos is a nasty narcissist whom craves power above all people.
Who's to say if he did, and his sons don't comply, that they would be any safer? No, he rather to have some control than none at all.
One thing was for sure. Kronos somehow managed to get into the school, and he still has one son in there at the moment.
He scrolled through the contacts to find his brother who also have his two children there.
Poseidon felt his face heat up as he shoved down the urge to strangle the principal in front of him.
This wasn't the first time he has talked to this principal as he often came down here to settle the situation between Triton and Luke.
This one however, is the first time he was joined by his brother.
Both Poseidon and Zeus were glowering at the sorry excuse of a principal.
The principal was under the influence of something as he stumbled when he walked, and was slurring his words. He was a chubby man with his Hawaiian shirt bunched around his protruding belly. His greasy hair fell in front of his eyes when he stumbles.
"I have nooo idea what you two are going on about? No one entered the school that wasn't supposed to."
"We literally got a confession of someone poisoning my son on the school grounds" Poseidon said through clenched teeth.
The principal; Mr. Dionysus shrugged, "Like I said no visitors entered the school premises today."
"Is that alcohol I smell on your breath?" Zeus growled.
Mr. Dionysus eyes widen. "No."
Zeus raised his voice "Unbelievable! You know if I didn't know your father I'll be marching to the school board, and heaven forbid-"
A knock on the door stopped from Zeus from finishing his threat.
"Come in." Mr. Dionysus squeaked out.
The door opened with Thalia standing in front of Jason and Percy.
Poseidon let out a breath of relief. Seeing his youngest son unharmed lifted his heart a bit. He turned back to the principal who was cowering in the corner.
"How could you let this happened? I thought there were better security here?" He growled.
Mr. Dionysus gulped, "Sir. How many times do I have to tell you that no unknown man that entered the school premises?"
"Then explain this!" Poseidon slammed the letter he received onto Mr. Dionysus's desk.
"I just got a letter threatening my son's life with a allergic reaction, which he had an attack on your school grounds. Tell me how his water bottle was tampered with as the letter states, and it is correct that the bottle was tampered with. There's is no way that my son willing put olives in there."
Poseidon took another breath "There's only one man who've made these threats, and I ask again. How could you let him in? How could you let this happen?"
"Mr. Olympion, please listen." Mr. Dionysus pleaded.
Poseidon felt his insides light on fire as the principal continued to deny his incompetence. "No. You need to listen. I was told that this school is one of the most secure schools in the country. How is it that you let an unknown man into this school? That man could've been an active shooter for all we know!"
"Mr. Olympion, what I'm trying to say is-"
"He's right, and I'm usually not the one who agrees with him. There's no excuse, I have two children attending to this school. Now, my nephew is in the hospital from a man who wasn't supposed to be on school grounds. Explain."
"IF YOU IDIOTS WOULD LISTEN OR LET ME TALK!" Mr. Dionysus yelled back.
Poseidon raised a brow at the principal. Mr. Dionysus wanted to go on that route then. He glanced at Zeus, whom the principal interrupted. Zeus's face was entirely red, and his eye started to twitch.
Mr. Dionysus coward back into his corner, as realized what he did.
"Mr. Dionysus I thought I made it clear that I know your father very well, as him and I are very very close. It would be a shame if I told him how disrespectful his son was to me. After all I am the biggest donors to this school. Your father boasts about how well his son leads the school, it will be a disappointment to tell how unimpressed I was speaking to his son the principal."
Dionysus gulped. It gave Poseidon the confidence to lay another threat on top of the one Zeus gave.
"It would be a shame indeed. Imagine what the school board will think if one of their biggest sponsors drops out as well as the sea rescue program I offer this school. Isn't that your biggest vocal point about this school for recruitment? Now future students will miss out having a semester learning at one of the best aquariums this world has to offer. And what about the school's swim team? Surely Goode is known for their most successful record-breaking sports team. My son has broken several state records for the four years he been here. Yet it seems that isn't enough for you, now is it?"
"Please just let me explain." Mr Dionysus squeaked out.
Poseidon crossed his arms waiting for whatever pathetic excuse the principal can give.
"I and the Goode staff are very grateful for the donations and programs that you two have so graciously offered this school. Now if you would like to accompany me into the security room, I can show you the tapes of those entering or exiting the building today."
Mr. Dionysus lead the group into an adjoining office that had walls of monitors viewing the security cameras.
The principal picked up the remote and started to rewind the feed back to this morning.
"Now the center monitor is viewing the camera located above the main entrance. It's the only entrance that isn't locked, it's for students who come in late. If someone came in in would've been through that door." The principal said while pointing at the monitor.
They rewind the tape to early this morning filtering through students entering in the building. No one other than students entered through that door.
Poseidon looked towards Zeus who's also confused. Kronos should've entered that door.
"You see, no one came into the school that wasn't a student. I don't know what exactly is going on with the letter, but I can assure you no stranger walked through those doors" The principal crossed his arms.
"Are saying a student sabotaged his water" Poseidon asked.
"Well it was no adult, unless it was one of staff which I doubt." Mr. Dionysus huffed.
"Didn't he impersonate a staff member at the aquarium?" Zeus asked Poseidon.
Poseidon frowned, "He did. I haven't been able to find out how he entered undetected but he was able to get past security."
"I'm sorry, but I'm confused. Who are you talking about? Does this person have any correlation to who you thought entered our campus?" The principal asked.
"Yes. They have broken through my security before. They're capable of many things, and bypassing security is one of them. Are you sure all of your staff are accounted for today." Poseidon asked.
Mr. Dionysus paused, "Again I'm sure that none of my staff was responsible-"
"I'm taking that as a no then" Poseidon grumbled.
"Not Necessarily-"
Dionysus stopped his sentence after looking at the brothers.
"Alright, I open an investigation on this incident. I cannot guarantee that anything will come out of it. But it's the best I can do." Mr Dionysus said.
Poseidon and Zeus shared a look before nodding, "Alright, but I expect us to be in on this investigation. This is a very serious matter and we need to be informed of any new developments." Zeus informed standing straighter to assert dominance.
"Alright I will. Is that all?" Mr. Dionysus sarcastically asked.
Poseidon glared at the principal after he made that unsavory comment.
Once the group walked out, Jason asked "What exactly is going on?"
"There's been another incident-"
"Yeah, like we haven't figured that out already" Thalia interrupted her father.
"I'll explain it later. I'm pulling the both of you out of school today. Possibly maybe take you out for the remainder of the week."
"Is that really necessary?" Jason asked.
"Anything is necessary when your grandfather is involved."
Poseidon separated from Zeus and his niece and nephew, as he headed towards his vehicle. He took out his phone and called his wife to see how his eldest son is doing.
"Hey, how is he doing?"
"Better. The swelling finally went down, so the doctor released him."
"He's home?"
"Yes. We got home thirty minutes ago, he's in his room resting."
"Did the doctor say he was in the clear, or do we still need the monitor him?"
"Mostly clear. He might have another flare up, but nothing severe. He might get sick due to the amount of epinephrine that was administered"
"Did you pick up his new epipens? Or would you like to me to pick it up?"
" I picked it up on the way there. Hopefully these two won't fail."
"Alright, I had a talk with the principal, and picked up Percy. We are on our way home."
"I'll see you when you get home. I love you."
"See you then. I love you too."
Poseidon hung up the phone as he buckled his seatbelt in. He looked over to his youngest.
"Well your brother got released from the hospital. He's not one hundred percent yet, so I'll expect you to not start anything with him."
Percy snorted, "When have I ever started something with him? He's the one who starts them, I just fight back."
Poseidon held back an eye roll, "Well then, don't fight back and ignore his attempts."
Percy grumbled and crossed his arms and slouched back in the passenger seat.
"Zeus is being serious when he said about pulling you and your cousins out for the remainder of the week."
Percy stayed silent, Poseidon took it as his queue to continue.
"I'm at a loss of what you grandfather wants, or what he's trying to prove? Whatever it is, he's being serious about it. He will go to extreme measures to get what he wants, and what happened today was one of his attempts to prove he will stop at nothing."
Poseidon lied. He did know what his father wanted, but he wasn't going to give in to that want. It's better that Percy didn't know that part of his grandfather messed up mind.
"Your uncles and I will continue to get in touch to try to solve this grand scheme of his. And whatever is happening about your grandfather isn't concerning you, the fact that I'm willing to talk to my siblings on a daily basis should be."
