Welcome back, and a huge thank you to Psy-Kick, Villainsfan101, and cxmgamingKR2 for your awesome feedback and I hope you like what I included in this chapter. To the Guest, thanks for your opinion, but if you aren't intrigued by a certain character then don't read. Yes, Overhaul is a terrible person but there is a lot more interesting aspects to that character then just an abuser, especially this new found remorse and guilt he had shown in the Manga and Anime when he escaped Tartarus. Compared to some other characters from MHA, he isn't all one sided, he has some complexity to him that makes him different from the average villain or hero.

But to each their own, to my readers please enjoy this next chapter. Heads up, there is more triggering content within this chapter…

Chapter 10 Rebel

The declaration of the fall of hero society was an understatement. It was as though the whole civilization within Japan was reduced to rubble, he couldn't believe his eyes as Chisaki constructed a continuous revolving floor that allowed him to witness the devastation this once beautiful city had been brought to. The Boss couldn't accept it, how the authorities had just allowed all of this to go this far… To just accept these fiends to tarnish the history and culture of this country – it angered him.

The old man noticed Chisaki's breathing was becoming more ragged the longer he moved them through the city – realizing the boy had been at it for a couple of hours. Even his hold was slacking from the extended period of carrying two people. "Chisaki, you need to rest."

Overhaul shook his head, attempting to even his breathing, "I can still keep go –."

"What is the point of your services if you keel over from exhaustion, boy? I gave you an order." The old man scolded.

In one quick movement their flooring rushed towards a residential area and halted in front of an apartment complex. Overhaul took deep breathes in and out as he lowered Pops and Eri to their feet. He averted his eyes as he aided the old man into the building.

Pops peered behind them noticing Eri hadn't moved, "Child, come along."

Eri shook her head nervously glancing around the destroyed streets.

"It is safer to stick close by, little one." Pops held out his hand flexing it in a gesture to come closer.

Eri stared at her grandfather, holding her arms tightly to her chest – if she went with them, she would never get to see her friends ever again. She didn't want that – she couldn't do that to her friends. Her red eyes noticed her grandfather frowning at her when she hesitated.

"Eri." The little girl stiffened hearing the all too familiar tone in his voice. She shakily looked towards the gold eyes; they stared deep into her very soul with their intensity. Since taking her from the bunker, he had never been able to hold that atmosphere for too long – but right now, he had that pure stare without a sliver of the new turmoil that would always distort that look.

"Don't make him tell you again." Overhaul remarked as he held his gaze on her until she made her way towards them.

Pops clutched onto Eri's hand as she huddled near him, they walked together until Kai stopped them at the end of the hall and kicked down a door to an apartment.

Overhaul stood in the hallway staring blankly at the concrete sealed front door for any disturbances of there being any intruders. His body recovered from the overexertion surprisingly quick compared to when he first escaped imprisonment. Mentality sure does hinder one's health, he scoffed to himself on that realization, forcing himself to focus on something else before his mind went back on that. He still couldn't shake everything that transpired – couldn't let himself to let go of it, like he wouldn't allow himself. Pops and the kid were catching up in the other room after the old man changed out of his hospital gown. He made sure to stay out of the family's way, he didn't want to upset that dynamic any further…

"Chisaki."

Overhaul quickly gazed back to the living room towards Pops, "Sir?"

"Can you check to see if there is any salvageable food in the area?" The Boss remarked.

"Of course." At least he's giving me something else to do. He narrowed his eyes, vigilantly noticing the girl heading towards him nervously.

"Take her with you." The old man added, seeing the slight uncertainty that crossed Chisaki's face when his granddaughter approached him.

Overhaul didn't understand it, the kid shouldn't even want to be anywhere near him and yet she was willing to go. Was this some sort of test from the old man? To determine if he was worthy to even be in his presence, and will only decide if it was for the sake of the girl? Perhaps Pops figured to further break through the surface of all the tension.

Kai opened the barrier letting the kid move passed him. He glanced back to the old man, "It won't take long."

He closed the entrance, the girl waited until he was next to her. His gold eyes fell on the nervous girl, "Is this an attempt to run away? You know I won't let you."

"You said you didn't care what I did once I healed him." Eri responded as he started moving down the hall.

"And I also said it was the old man's decision." Overhaul remarked, putting his hands in his pockets as the kid walked next to him.

Eri gazed down, "You did… I just thought he would understand."

"Now why would he let his last family member slip through his fingers for heroes?" He scowled as he kicked down another door to see if the other unit had unperishable food before venturing outside to a store.

"I will still visit him –."

"He is your next of kin, custody goes to him. The heroes only took you because he was out of commission." Overhaul snapped glaring at her in his attempts to silence her from communicating this further. It irritated him, the girl had someone that wanted her and yet she was so focused on the heroes that had felt the need of taking her in.

Eri avoided his gaze as she fumbled through the apartment towards the kitchen for food. Apparently, she struck a nerve, he was glaring and busying himself in tossing aside unnecessary items. She opened the pantry finding packages of rice and instant ramen.

He studied her for a long minute as she packed the food into the backpack she had found at the entryway. "Why hold back on the details? What made you do it?" It's been bothering him, there had to be a reason to why the kid practically avoided telling the Boss about what he had fully done to her.

Eri paused in packing, "I didn't want him to hate you more."

"Why?" His gold eyes narrowed, not believing it.

Eri lowered her eyes, "He wouldn't have let you stay if he knew you killed me. I didn't know how you would react after reaching him if he would have turned you away." She glanced up noticing his gaze didn't falter from the calculating expression. The girl sighed, "I think you feel guilty for what happened and you both need each other. I didn't know how you were when you were under his control before you hurt him. But after everything, you needed stability."

He gave her an unnerving sneer, "Stability, huh? Nothing to do with getting the reins tightened on me?"

Eri stared at him, "You wanted that –." She closed her mouth as he unexpectedly laughed.

He sneered more, "Yeah, I guess so." In all honesty, he practically begged the old man to be in his service again. He wanted to be an unopinionated body for the old man, hoping it would allow Pops to overlook the shame and destruction he had done. He needed to try to make up for it, and he was willing to do anything for the Boss' sake. Kai had to admit, the kid gained some respect from him with her ability to read the room and was able to push aside her personal feelings to ease the old man to let him in. "So, what do you want kid?"

Eri studied him, he seemed to be in a compromised mood now, "Let me see my friends."

"What makes you think they are still going to be alive?" He scowled at her, clearly, she isn't going to drop that irrational thought.

"No way. They are stronger than the bad guys." Eri insisted.

Overhaul scowled, "Do you honestly think you can just walk through a battlefield and find who you are looking for?"

Eri opened her mouth to counter, but closed it – walking into a battlefield was not something she wanted to do again…

"Thought so. Now if you are done in here, I don't want to keep the old man waiting."

The apartment was quiet, the old man decided to lay low for the time being to allow the heat from Tokyo to calm down. Overhaul crossed his arms, leaning on the wall to stare out towards the dark street. The old man insisted on wanting to go home and just the thought of returning to the compound and seeing what had become of it… He gritted his teeth feeling his chest twist in pain, he had no idea what the house ended up looking like when the raid came through. But he knew the underground labyrinth was utterly destroyed with everything that was above it – there was no telling how many neighboring buildings down the block were devastated by his rampage.

The old man was set on having his eyes see it for himself before he could move on from the fact that everything that he built – everything that had been passed down through the generations, was destroyed by the kid he had brought in from the streets…

Overhaul clutched onto his chest at the burning sensation of dread that paralyzed him in agony. It was all his fault, if it weren't for him and his overzealous ambitions, Pops would have never been homeless and exposed. He was the reason the Hassaikai was raising red flags to the authorities – keening their interest as he further exploited and covered up his deeds with victims that were too pristine, not registering that a reconstructed victim would stand out more than the mere bloodied ones. He practically declared open season upon the clan and he hadn't been able to stomach it. After so many years, the old man had tried to warn him and attempted to direct his ambitions to more stable and low-risk opportunities to better the clan…but it was never heeded. It was too late now, there was nothing to show other than disappointment and destruction…

He gritted his teeth; I can wear myself to skin and bone to try to make up for what I've done – but it can never restore what I've destroyed. Pops will never put his faith in him again, he lost all the respect the old man had in him with his mutiny – and proclaiming to repent with servitude wouldn't be enough without something to show for it. He will make sure he will obey anything and everything the old man set out for him – he will try to regain the old man's esteem of him… Somehow.

His gold gaze locked on movement from the window, he was standing in the pitch darkness of the apartment, so he doubted anyone from the outside could see within. He narrowed his eyes as a police caravan traveled slowly through the street, he leaned back out of sight as the officers flashed high beamed search lights towards the windows of the apartment complex. There was no way they were followed, he made sure to destroy everything he had reconstructed to avoid suspicion.

The search lights crept through the living room, he stepped into the shadows to give off an inhabited façade. He listened intently, wondering if the old man and kid would wake up from the bright lights of the police and alert the authorities with their movement. Overhaul crept through the apartment, heading straight to the bedrooms – particularly the one that was eager to return to heroes.

He scowled noticing the girl up on the windowsill, face pressed to the window about to tap on the glass. Overhaul swiftly pulled her from the window, covering her mouth and pressing her down on the floor with his body as the search light scaled over them. He glared at her darkly with her muffled screams, he held his hand on her mouth harshly. She winced feeling the slight tingling of his quirk that was eager to reconstruct her with the contact if he didn't hold it at bay.

He leaned forward hissing in her ear, "What do you think you're doing? Do you want them to come in here guns blazing? It will be a bloodbath." It took every ounce of restraint to not just deconstruct her right then and there for endangering them – generally, it is shoot first then ask questions later especially during the tension of war time.

Eri struggled trying to get him to move off of her. He put a finger to his mouth with his other hand that wasn't silencing her to indicate for her to be quiet. He tilted his head slightly, listening to the slow movement of the vehicles outside of the complex. Eri thrashed under him, attempting to kick at him – he grabbed her offending leg before she could nail him good enough.

He tossed her away from him once the coast was clear. "You are really testing me with your insufferable desire to get to the heroes, even with you completely disregarding how you would affect other people."

Eri wrapped her arms around her legs, "Why can't you let me leave? I know you would rather have me gone."

Overhaul's gold eyes seemed to shine in the darkness, "The Boss wants you around, I'm not going to let you run off on him."

"I will keep on causing –."

"Let's get this one thing straight." Overhaul gave her a menacing glare, "I will do everything the old man asks of me, but I will have no issue in keeping you in line if it is best for his wellbeing." His gold gaze shimmered with a compromise, "See how far you get on your own, let's see if you can make it to the authorities before some criminal picks you up off the street – go on, run. I'm sure the old man will request your return and I won't be gentle when I bring you right back to him. Go on, try it."

Eri stared at him, debating with herself if he was actually being serious. She stood up from her sitting position clutching onto her stuffed animal tightly as the Yakuza stood up with her. He ushered her to the front door, deconstructing the concrete and he sarcastically spread his hand and arm out to present the cleared entrance.

"Try it." He sneered at her, ready to end her ridiculous notion to go back to the authorities if the opportunity presented itself to her and she would be too scared to –.

Eri rushed out of the apartment, breaking his train of thought as he was baffled with her actually biting the bullet and taking her chances outside. He stood in the hallway, staring at the empty doorway. Stupid girl, there's no way she will be able to make it on her own. His gold gaze shifted to the rest of the quiet apartment, debating with himself if he should tell the old man or just wait it out until Pops realizes her absence and request to have her be returned to him.

In the other room, Pops was already awake due to the search lights. He overheard the whole conversation between Eri and Kai – slightly concerned for the girl's wellbeing. The old man felt a little disappointed in his granddaughter for wanting to leave even after Chisaki advised against it. His grey eyes shifted to the bedroom door hearing Chisaki's quirk somewhere near the front door, Is he letting her leave? Pops sat up in bed, he was about to investigate until he clearly heard Chisaki curse.

"Damn it." Overhaul scowled, he swiftly grabbed a pen and paper to write a quick note to the old man of needing fresh air in case he got up before they got back. His gaze narrowed as he closed up the front entrance of the apartment and made his way onto the street. She couldn't have gotten that far…

Eri ran through the streets, hoping she was heading towards the right direction where the police caravan went. It was pitch black outside without the moon or stars to light up the dark city. She nervously glanced behind where she came from, uncertain if Kai would actually let her try to make it on her own. She determinedly ran forward, This is my only chance, he's giving me one chance to make it to the heroes.

She kept her head held high as she swiftly surveyed down the block before continuing straight in attempts to catch up to the authorities.

As the trek continued, there was no sign of the authorities. She became worried, How did they move so fast? She felt her heart quicken as the ruins of this once great city became scarier and more overwhelming, Oh no, did I miss the turn they made?

Eri rounded a corner, she froze seeing lights ahead. I finally found them! She smiled excitedly running towards the headlamps, soon she will be back with her U.A. friends and Mr. Aizawa. Eri ran towards the lights, almost able to make out figures the closer she got, "Excuse me!" She came closer, "Can you take me to –." Eri's sentence fell apart as she stood right in front of the lights, seeing support gear attached to their limbs as it became visible with the light.

"The hell is a kid doing around here?" The little girl hugged her stuffed animal tightly as she was face to face with people that had weapons.

"Aw, can't we keep her? She's a cutie!" A woman cooed grabbing onto the first man's arm and pointed at Eri.

"Hmm she sure is…" Another man stood next to the duo and gave an ugly grin towards Eri that made her twitch in anxiety.

"Where were you coming from?" The first man asked her, his eyes drifted from her to look around their surroundings.

Eri fidgeted, she didn't want to endanger her grandfather in the apartment. The little girl roughly pointed in the wrong direction, "That way, I think."

The adults peered towards the area she was pointing in.

The one with the ugly smile asked, "Where you heading?"

Eri nervously glanced between the three, "To the heroes –."

The woman grabbed onto her shoulders, shaking her eagerly, "What's the rush?! Ain't it fun being free to do whatever you want? Those killjoys are no fun with their rules."

The little girl nervously looked around, hoping for a hero or a police officer to come by and take her to safety. She wiggled out of the woman's grip and backed away, "I can manage, thanks…" Turning away to go around the corner again, she was stopped by a warm sweaty hand that gripped her wrist.

"A sweet little girl like yourself shouldn't be wondering around all alone." She glanced up towards the person who had her wrist and cringed by the smiling man as he added, "There's no telling who you might run into."

The kid is fast even with those short legs of hers. Overhaul grumbled to himself as he spent some time to track her down. He figured it would be better to get the kid to run her course on her own and have her fall back in place once her stupid obsession had passed due to reality. It would be easier to have her more compliant once they start traveling again, he didn't need to split his focus on the Boss's wellbeing and the kid's rebellion.

He observed from afar, just watching the girl being dragged away by three looters. The thought crossed his mind to just kill them and take the girl when he first saw them – but he decided to let her get a reality check.

His gold eyes studied the three, dissecting them based on body language and conversations. He could tell the variance between different types of filth and trash of society – and the kid hit her mark with tallying up her luck of scum she had found on the streets.

He shook his head, smirking to himself, This encounter would definitely stop her need to run away from Pops. He's going to wait for something to happen and get the kid to reap whatever comes out from her decision. It had enraged him how the girl would just take advantage of Pops' generosity of caring for her – how she disregarded the old man's wants of protecting and raising her… Doesn't she know how lucky she was to have Pops?

His focus went back to the group, noticing them going into an abandoned clinic. The kid was roughly pushed inside when she attempted to excuse herself to be on her way. Overhaul shook his head, Oh Eri, you are going to get a crash course on just how sheltered you were from this cesspool.

Eri nervously hugged her stuffed animal as the adults sat around dumping the pile of their haul onto an operation table. She tried to make herself less noticeable by pressing herself into the wall, but that one man's gaze rarely left her. The little girl felt exposed, the man seemed to take note of each aspect of her the longer he stared at her. She stayed silent in hopes to be an afterthought once the adults started gorging themselves in whatever they found. The little girl shook seeing the couple of the group clamoring through the cabinets and shelves with needles and vials. She felt nauseous as a past memory of her experiments with needles and drugs came back to the surface as she witnessed the adults inject themselves with whatever was in the vials.

Eri winced when in no time the two adults were drugged up and practically in a heap of induced ecstasy and mellowness. Her red eyes went to the main entrance of the clinic, figuring it might be best to leave these people to their own way of living.

A chuckle from her left startled her, "They always crash so early." Blue eyes smiled at her as he leaned on the wall close to her.

Eri nervously looked at the man, something about him unnerved her – it wasn't the same unsettledness she had when Overhaul had that atmosphere around him, this particular feeling made her skin crawl by the way the man gauged at her. It hit her – those leery looks, the eager aura – just like her bad caretakers in the Yakuza compound. No! Eri edged herself further away from the man as he grinned more at her.

"Ya know, it ain't that fun being a third wheel to those lovebirds – watching just doesn't quite appease the urges if ya know what I mean." He winked at her.

"Stay away from me." Eri forced out, her heart raced as the man took a step forward every time she took a step back.

He leered at her, "No need to play hard to get, dressing like that is just asking for attention."

Eri nervously looked at her clothes, she never changed back into clothes that fit her properly. She had on the same overgrown t-shirt from the night her pajamas were covered in blood. The shirt was barely held up by a shoulder as the collar was slipping down her arm exposing her shoulder blade and chest. The shirt was more of a dress on her for the shorts she had on were barely visible under the big shirt.

Eri crept closer to the exit as he continued to follow her. Her thoughts went straight to her quirk, if anything were to happen, she was sure she could defend herself like she had done with Kai. Oh no – she gulped feeling a cold shiver run down her spine, realizing all of her power that was built up was spent on rewinding the Yakuza to his former glory.

The little girl booked it out of the clinic, hyperventilating as she was overwhelmed by the large city again with danger close behind. Eri screamed as a sweaty hand grabbed her hair and forced her down face first into the asphalt.

"Don't be such a tease." The man hovered over her ear.

Eri cringed feeling his body weight on her backside. She struggled as he flipped her on her back to make her look up at him. The girl shook, horrified by the predatory grin the man displayed. "Get away!" Eri thrashed under him, kicking heavily into him – hoping she could somehow loosen his grip. She squirmed as he forced his fingers down her throat to silence her, she gagged feeling sharp pain in the harsh movement.

"Now this gets the blood pumping…"

Tears ran down her cheeks as she felt helpless as the man ran his free hand down her until it tugged at the rim of the shirt. She attempted to hold down her shirt, a pained squeak escaped her as he dug his fingers deeper into her mouth – the taste of iron mixed with the taste of the dirt on his hand. His legs pinned hers down. She cried as his free hand aggressively grabbed onto her hands and forced them above her head, with ease he threw her shirt aside.

Eri shook heavily, feeling exposed with that predatory blue gaze racking down her body. Help me, Deku! Mr. Aizawa! Please! His arm replaced his hand that entrapped her wrists, pressing her wrists deeply down into the ragged street. Her eyes widened in fear as the man's hand went to the last bit of clothing on her. She winced feeling his clammy calloused hand brushing her stomach as it found the waist band – N—no! The little girl shivered, feeling the cool night air running through her as the shorts were lowered – Someone please! She started to scream, crying hysterically as she thrashed in attempts to halt him from going further.

"Hey now – don't need to get all lively, don't wanna make a crowd." His hand that was in her mouth wrapped itself around her neck to silence her screams.

Eri coughed, wiggling her hands free to claw onto the hand that choked her. Her eyes widened noticing the man's other hand was reaching into his pants – she looked away feeling dread run through her. She squealed as the hand around her throat roughly went to her chin to force her to look straight at him.

"Nah uh, I want you to look –."

"No please, I don't want this!" Eri whimpered, weakly tugging at her trapped limbs as the man seemed to stroke himself within his pants.

The man slowly loosened his trousers to free himself, "Aw don't say that, you gonna enjoy it –."

Red colored her vision as the man above her was severed into pieces, the chunks blew away from her. The little girl's gaze adjusted to the shadow that stood above her, large tears filled her red eyes seeing her savior.

Overhaul scowled in disgust, retreating his hand from its outstretched position after he had deconstructed that filth. His gold gaze lowered to the hysterical girl that started to sob heavily once the shock passed. He couldn't help himself to intervene, just watching the ordeal was enough, the girl didn't need to endure that horror further.

Eri rushed to her feet tightly hugging his legs and cried into his pant leg and shirt with the wave of relief that fell on her. The fear of facing retribution from him having to get her was overwhelmed by the feeling of being saved from that horrible ordeal. She ignored the angry atmosphere he gave off as she attempted to calm her sobs with him being there to fend off other scary things within the city.

He clenched his jaw, waiting for her to compose herself. Overhaul sighed, bending forward to grab her shirt and he adjusted her clothing properly. "I did warn you that a criminal would pick you up before you could reach the authorities."

Eri was able to slow down her cries and had peeked up from his leg, her red eyes met the annoyed gaze of gold. She stiffly nodded her head, unable to muster words as a new wave of tears flooded her eyes.

Overhaul cringed when she started to hysterically cry again when he pointed out the obvious. He tsked glaring away from her as he kept a vigilant eye on their surroundings. "Now, are you going to listen to me? It will be easier to have the two people I'm charged with to be more compliant."

She wiped her tears away, realizing what he said. He wasn't solely looking out for her grandfather's wellbeing, but hers as well.

His gold gaze fell back on her once she calmed her crying again, "Lets go back to the old man."

The little girl nodded; she stepped back only for her legs to give out on her due to the lack of adrenaline. Before she could hit the ground, Overhaul's arm lifted her up securing her on his hip. Her eyes widened in surprise by that gesture.

He scowled at her expression, "Don't get used to it, you are just going to slow us down. I would like to get back to Pops before sunrise."

Eri nodded stiffly feeling his angry atmosphere from the whole ordeal of him having to find her. Her eyes focused on her stuffed animal on the ground – her last comfort from her life with the heroes, she attempted to halt the new tears that threatened to fall.

Overhaul noticed the girl intently staring at the dirty stuffed cat on the ground, he nonchalantly picked it up as he started to walk back to the apartment complex. He handed the thing to her, not missing the grateful smile that graced her face. Not even a couple minutes in the trek back, he felt the girl's weight leaning into him as she passed out from exhaustion. His gold gaze shifted to her momentarily before going back to his surroundings, She sure is lucky to have the old man in her corner…

Let me know what you think and I would love to hear any ideas you may have in regarding the progress of the story and potential endings :) Thanks for reading, I'm going on a little break to get some needed time to alleviate writer's block.
