Sonja on a quest

Chapter one

Hi guys. So this is a redo of my story 'into the woods.' I started it like 5 years ago and wanted to get back to writing because, once again I have gotten into the writing spirit and have been watching LotR a lot lately. I would have continued my older story, but my writing style has changed and the way I wanted the story to go has also changed. Since I do not use a beta, do expect some spelling errors. I try my b est to go through and catch everything

Last but not least, This is a Legomance. It wont be rated M much later in the story. Will put up a warning on each chapter when the Mature themes kick in.

Sonja Jackson was no friend to the outside world. It was mostly because of the bugs and no central air or heating. Also needing to take a decent shower. So when her friends made plans to go camping, real camping in tents, as Sonja would put it. She was not thrilled to say the least.

Her friends had somehow convinced her to come with them and also promised a nice dinner in the city once the trip was over. So she decided to suck it up and spend the three days with them under the stars. With tents of course. Living in Tennessee in the late summer wasn't too bad. You did get your few days of some coolness and lucky for them, this weekend was sitting in the low 60s with some breeze.

Sonja was excited to roast the marshmallows. It was the best part of camping in her eyes. They planned to hike on one of the common trails in the mountain and to set camp at one of the locations around the hot springs. She was grateful that they would be by some water to help her relax and of course to take a dip whenever she needed to cool off.

After about an hour after they had setup camp they had all decided to take a little hike to a clearing where everyone liked to go so they could see over the mountain. Unfortunately, Sonja had to turn around because she couldn't bare the thought of not having the bug spray. Even though she had on her cargo pants and a light jacket. While her friends went on ahead, she went back since it was only about five minutes to get back down to the tents and 10 minutes to walk to where they were headed.

After grabbing the spray, she stuffed it in her backpack and was back on her way. Only thing was, she had gotten lost. She didn't know how since it was a pretty straight path to the clearing where she was supposed to catch up with her friends. She promised herself she wouldn't panic till at least an hour had passed. Then it was full on panic mode.

"Okay, seriously. How the hell did I get lost?" She stopped and looked around at the trees. Not really on a clear path anymore. "Why me?"

She took off her pack and rummaged around for a snack. She pulled out a slim jim munched on it. She continued to walk and came to a few large boulders and took a seat.

"Don't they say, you should stay in one spot if you ever become lost," she spoke to herself. "Or should I keep walking. Or maybe back track." She huffed and took a sip from one of her two water bottles. She would at least drink little by little just in case; she didn't even want to think about that right now. Almost an hour had gone by since she sat on the boulder. She was happy that her friend had wanted everyone to go old school, and have a watch, but she kicked herself for forgetting her phone in the tent.

She had nothing to pass the time with so she got up and decided to backtrack to see if she could find her way back. Why she didn't do it in the first place was a question heavy on her mind. Sonja thanked her lucky stars that she had the common sense to wear her cargo pants and wanted to wear a jacket in the misty mountain. Since she had on a long sleeve shirt, and it was getting a little warm, she took off her jacket and tied it around her waist. It was 4 o'clock in the afternoon and a little cloudy. So it did help to keep the sun away.

Sonja tied her dark brown hair into a messy bun to keep her hair off her neck. She walked next to a small stream that she didn't even remember she had passed last time. She decided to take another break and took her hiking boots and socks off to dip her feet into the stream to get a little relief. As she waded her feet through the water and was surprised to see a doe and her little one come take a drink at the stream.

She smiled to herself at the pure moment set before her eyes. They were both so cute. She wished she could pet them, but she knew they'd sprint off. She watched as the mama doe looked up at her deciding if Sonja was a threat or not. Sonja smiled again as if the doe would even know what a smile was and knew she didn't mean any harm.

The pair ran off as there was a rustle in the bushes. Sonja looked down the stream to see if she could see anything. 'Please don't let it be a bear,' she thought to herself. Not hearing anything else for a couple of minutes, Sonja took her feet from the stream and dried them with a cloth she found in her pack. After she put back on her socks and boots, she took in a deep breath and let it out slowly as she stood up.

"What should I do," she asked out loud. "Someone please give me an answer."

"Well that depends," said a voice standing on the other side of the stream where the deer and her baby had been. Sonja's heart almost lept out of her chest. No way was she expecting anyone to answer her. The voice was soft but powerful, especially coming from the person who spoke. It was a male that wore blue robes. Long light brown hair that flowed down past his elbows. Bright green eyes that even she could see standing across from him.

Very odd scene in front of her. Especially being in the mountains. He was definitely fine as hell Sonja had thought. He looked young and old at the same time. He had a small smile and his eyes twinkled with curiosity. Sonja took a quick look around with her eyes before she spoke to him.

"Um, sorry. I wasn't expecting anyone to answer me back."

"That's alright. You look as though you are in need of some help." When he spoke again to her, Sonja was taken back. He spoke with a forign accent unknown to her. He didn't sound threatening to her. She could picture his voice in an audio book that she would definitely listen to. He began to speak when she didn't reply back to him.

"Also as you should know, it's a dangerous time to be alone. You have also passed into our borders and lucky I didn't decide to kill you." Sonja now felt threatened. She didn't know how she didn't notice before, but the man carried and bow. It was long and somewhat shiny.

"What," was all she could muster out. She didn't know what to do or what to say.

"Well then, you are lucky you're not an orc. They have been giving us trouble as of late."

"Orc," Sonja asked. Now it was the male's turn to look puzzled.

"Surely you must know." Sensing her uneasiness, he added, "My lady."

"Not to be rude, but you mean an orc from Lord of the Rings?" He thought for a moment, then smiled.

"Ah, I see. You must follow me." He jumped across the stream with ease and landed right beside Sonja. "Come. You need not be afraid. I see you have some troubles and are in need for answers. I have been following you for a while and now I see as the stars shine bright."

"Excuse me?" Sonja had stepped back a little not wanting to spook the man into doing something crazy. As he was closer, he had the most pointed ears she had ever seen.

"As I said before. You need not be afraid. You are lost are you not?"

"Y-yes."

"I know you may not have reason to trust me, but would you rather I leave you so you can continue to walk around in circles?" Sonja looked at the man like he had grown three heads. How long had he been following her. What was his game? Yeah she had already been out here for too long by herself not really knowing how to get anywhere.

"Fine. Can I at least know your name." She wanted to know so she could at least know who killed her if he did end up doing so. The man seemed nice enough, except for the fact that he brought up killing her. What choice did she have? Even if she did refuse, who's to say that he would stop following her? Also this man is talking about Orcs. What did he mean? Living in a fantasy world. She knew people took the Book and movie series seriously. She only knew a few bits and pieces here and there. She hadn't really gotten all into it like a lot of people she knew did. Two of her friends surely did enjoy watching the movies all of the time.

"Eldrin," he replied as he smiled. She nodded at the strange name.

"Sonja. I'm Sonja."

"Splendid. Now come." He started walking up stream and Sonja followed after she said a quick prayer.
