Sonja on a quest
Chapter three
Hi guys. So this is a redo of my story 'into the woods.' I started it like 5 years ago and wanted to get back to writing because, once again I have gotten into the writing spirit and have been watching LotR a lot lately. I would have continued my older story, but my writing style has changed and the way I wanted the story to go has also changed.
Last but not least, This is a Legomance. It wont be rated M much later in the story. Will put up a warning on each chapter when the Mature themes kick in.
Again, this is a redo of MY story, Into the woods with the same character. All i own is miss Sonja Jackson.
Thank you again for reading and reviewing and adding this story. Best wishes.

Sonja tossed and stirred and felt the warmth of the sun. She didn't even want to get up. Sonja was not a morning person at all and as she brought the cover over her head, her eyes shot open. She shot up and looked around. 'So it wasn't a dream.' Here she was, still in the big beautiful room that could cost her a fortune. She sighed and swung her feet, leaving them dangle off of the bed. As she thought about being here among the Elves, it hit her that she may not be able to go home. How far away was she from home, or hell, even planet Earth. Her Earth. A knock at the door brought her to reality.
"Come in." Syllia came through the door with a big smile on her face. Sonja felt a little better seeing a familiar face. Though she'd prefer if it was one of her family members or friends.
"Good, you're up. I came by almost two hors ago, but you really are a heavy sleeper." Syllia had another dress in her hands. This time it was a dark red.
"Yeah, I'm not really a morning person. What times is it?"
"It's the afternoon now. A little past 12."
"Great. And I still feel tired." The elf looked at her puzzled.
"I will never understand how mortals can sleep so long. I can barely get three hours in." Sonja cringed. Sonja loved to sleep, mostly to pass the time, but she loved it none the less. "But you did have a long day I suppose. Well, you have to hurry and get dressed. Lord Elrond wishes to speak with you after he and the others attend their meeting."
"Aww, yes. The secret meeting."
"You know of it?" Whoops. She was going to have to learn to watch what she said. Even though she didn't know much, she didn't want anyone to ask her questions when she wouldn't know the answer.
"I just mean, isn't everything a secret around here." Syllia thought for a moment.
"Yes, I guess one could say that. Here." Sonja took the dress with a new pair of underwear, and looked it over. "Don't worry. This one should fit a bit better. I'll let you wash up and we'll get some food in that belly and by that time, they should be finishing up." Syllia went and refilled the tub up for Sonja and got it nice and warm. Sonja was left with her thoughts once more. As she quickly washed up and allowed herself to soak for five minuets, she of course wondered what Elrond would have to say to her.
She popped a stick of gum she found in her pack into her mouth as she thought about back home, but only for a moment. If she stayed in that head space too long, she'd shut down. With her new dress on and fresh undies, she looked over herself before heading off. She looked both ways before coming out of her room. Now, hopefully she could make it to the dining hall. She tired her best to remember the route, but of course she was lost. Among all the hall paintings and statues, it was difficult to remember what turn to take.
Not looking where she was going, she bumped into a tall figure and almost fell onto her ass.
"I'm so sorry...I'm lost." The dark haired woman, well Elf, looked and smiled in Sonja's direction.
"Oh, it's quite alright. You must be Lady Sonja." Sonja nodded her head and gave an awkward smile. The Elf was really beautiful and...shiny. Of course tall.
"I'm Sonja. I guess word is getting around about." The dark haired Elf chuckled.
"But of course. My name is Arwen. Daughter of Lord Elrond." She bowed a bit.
"Oh, you don't have to do that," Exclaimed Sonja, noting that Arwen was of royalty.
"I don't mind. You say you are lost. Where is it that you're going?"
"Dining hall. Syllia told me to meet her there."
"Come, I'll show you." The two of them talked for a bit as Arwen lead the way. Sonja noted she was soft spoken, unlike Syllia. Maybe it was just a young vs old thing. She supposed Arwen was well over 2000 at least. At least. It was hard telling how old an Elf was. They walked into the hall and greeted Syllia.
"Good afternoon, my lady," Syllia spoke, bowing to Arwen. Arwen bowed right back. Sonja thought it was just who she was. Royal or not. She was a nice Royal. Arwen left the new pair and they walked over to a small area where there was some food set out for Sonja. Eggs, bacon, and tomatoes.
"Suggested by the hobbits. Hope you don't mind. They are excited to meet you." Sonja was taken back.
"Meet me? Why would they want to meet me?"
"Well you are aware of the rumors circulating around your name?"
"I guess that answers that. But I definitely do like eggs and bacon." They both sat at the table. "Normally for breakfast, but I don't mind for lunch either." As sonja ate her food, Syllia told her about all the males that had came to Rivendell. Still gushing over Legolas. Sonja couldn't help but laugh at how smitten Syllia was with the blonde haired Elf. I mean, who wouldn't. As she thought back in the garden last night how they had met, a blush ran across her face. She had always thought of Legolas as the best looking character. She knew, other people that would kill to be in her shoes. Though she did want to get out of her shoes. No boy, or Elf could keep her from getting back home. She'd give it one more day to believe that she was really here with the characters of one of the most popular stories there was.
"You think they're almost done, Syllia? I'd really like to hear what Lord Elrond has to say about my...predicament." Sonja watched Syllia as it looked like the elf fixed her ears like an animal. If that was even possible.
"Maybe shortly. Or longer. Lots of arguing. Men." Sonja tired to think about what was happening. She knew all the people that would be going to destroy the...ring, she still thought that was weird, were all at that meeting and soon would be venturing off once they came to an agreement. It made her nerves stand on edge of what could possibly happen to her. She wanted to pull her hair out waiting in anticipation. After she finished eating, the women set back off. Syllia took Sonja on a walk after she sensed the distress. Syllia took time to tell her a little about Rivendell and a little about Elven history. It did calm Sonja down as she listened. Not realizing how diverse the Elves were and how they worked. They really seemed complicated.
The two women sat on a bench in one of the many gardens. All the different plants and flowers Sonja has never seen made her feel like a small child. This was a whole new world she had to learn while she was here. She might as well be a child. She was walking with people that have seen many lifetimes. She was only 25 years old. She probably was a child in their eyes.
"Here you two are." Sonja almost fell out her seat. She wasn't expecting anyone out the blue. She though Syllia would just take her to see Elrond when the time was ready, but there he was. Elves were way too quiet. Syllia got up with easy and bowed out.
"Lord Elrond. I take it you have some good news," Sonja asked hopefully. Elrond looked at Sonja with a mix of different expressions that she couldn't read.
"I do have news, but good I cannot say." Sonja's face fell and she let herself show it. "Do not fret young one. I myself cannot help you, but Lady Galadriel can give you the answers you seek." Sonja's face lit up again and almost laughed.
"Well, what's bad about that," she asked. Lord Elrond was quiet for a moment, not really sure how she would react to the news.
"I am sorry to say, but you must travel with the new found fellowship to get your answers." Sonja thought for a moment. The fellowship. Did he mean she has to travel with a bunch of men cross country just to be able to see if she will be able to make it home.
"So you mean, I have to be with..." she trailed off coming to realization.
"I am sorry, but it is the only way." Elrond looked at her with pity knowing just how dangerous the trip would be. The long trek just to Lothrorian alone was detrimental. "All of you will leave in the morning." Tears pricked behind Sonja's eyes as she tried to calm herself. She gulped and took a breath.
"Is this a guarantee that she can help me?"
"Either way, you cannot stay here, I'm afraid. After talking and much deliberation, you staying here is not safe. Not safe for you or anyone here that resides in Rivendell." All Sonja could do was nod. She was the 'go with the flo' type of person, even if it hurt her. She wanted to go home and didn't want to be a danger to anyone on her account. She would just have to suck it up and hope and pray nothing happened to her on this journey. Even with her limited knowledge of this place, she knew of the many dangers that was waiting for them.
"Alright. Do I get a sword or anything?" If she was going to go with them, she might as well have something."
"If you deem it necessary, I will have one brought to you before you head out. Your traveling companions are some of the fiercest fighters. You shall have no need to worry too much." The two were interrupted by Gandalf walking up to them. Gandalf was all smiles, though his eyes were weary.
"All settled then," Gandalf spoke in a careful tone.
"Yes, I understand that I am to go with you all."
"Don't worry yourself, my dear. You will have several watchful eyes."
"Thanks," she said awkwardly. "Hopefully I wont slow you guys down or anything." Gandalf chuckled.
"We have four Hobbits traveling with us. I wouldn't worry so much." That made her smile a bit.
"So be it," spoke Elrond. I will let Syllia know so she can help you get ready for your journey and I will have a blade given to you. I will take my leave." With that, Lord Elrond bowed out and left the wizard and the mortal girl.
"Do you think there's a chance of Galadriel being able to fully help me."
"The Lady of the Wood is very wise and powerful. I am sure she will help you to the fullest of her extent. Whatever path you are to be on." Sonja didn't know what that meant, but she didn't want to take any thought to it.
"Well, I guess I"ll be off to my room till dinner time." She started to walk away but Gandalf stopped her. He spoke in hushed tones.
"Whatever knowledge you have of Middle Earth and those who inhabit, you must keep to yourself. Tell no one, not even me. Whatever roads we are all meant to take, we must take it." Sonja nodded her head thankful Gandalf could see it that way. The stuff she knew, she couldn't even piece together the timeline in which stuff was suppose to happen. She knew about the creature that Gandalf was to fight, but she had no idea when that was suppose to happen.
Sonja walked herself to her room, waiting for Syllia. So, good news was that she may be able to go home. Bad news was, she has to travel days on end to be able to find out if she can be sent home. She still contemplated if this was real or not. What if she was stuck in a coma and this was just another reality to help her stay alive enough. That would be a weird concept to get through. There were plenty of stories of people being in comas and the way they describe what was happening was off putting.
She went through her backpack to see what she had. She had some SlimJims, trail mix, gum, her thermos, tissue, 2 long socks, a tiny flashlight, small pocket knife, bandaids, a handful of packets of pain medication, a tan beanie for her head, and some lip balm. Well, at least she was somewhat set for the trip. All this stuff probably wouldn't get her halfway through the long trip ahead. She put everything back in her pack as Syllia came busting through the door with a worried look on her face.
"Syllia," exclaimed Sonja. "You scared me." Sonja's heart almost leapt out of her chest.
"Sorry to startle you, but I just heard the news." Sonja didn't take in just how tall Syllia was. Sonja barely came up to her shoulders. She had been around tall woman back at home, but here among the Elves, it was like being near tall ass trees. Syllia wrapped her arms around Sonja into a comfortaing hug while Sonja stood there awkwardly. She wasn't expecting Syllia to be that close, but she appreciated the gesture. Truth be told, Sonja could use a hug right about now. Sonja gave her a small hug and breathed through her words.
"So you know I have to leave with the guys... the men." Syllia shook her head.
"I will make sure you are set to go in your travel. I'll have a care package for you. It may not last the whole journey, but it's something." Syllia was talking a 100 miles per hour. Sonja could hardly keep up. "Try and stretch it out as much as you can."
"Nope I'll be able to carry it, Syllia."
"If not, one of the men can help you." While Sonja didn't mind the help, she didn't want everyone to have to help her all of the time when they didn't have to. Unless they ran into trouble, then she'd defiantly would want to hide as much as she can.
"My mother is actually getting things ready for you. I'll bring them by later tonight for you. Dinner will be in a couple of hours."
"I don't think I'll make it to dinner." Sonja stated truthfully. "I just want to get all the sleep I can get and stay in the bath as long as I can."
"I understand. Only Valar knows when's the next time you'll get a decent bath. I'll bring a plate to you when I can to put something on your belly. You will not have any time for morning breakfast. All of you will have to eat on the road."
"Okay. Sounds good. Thanks, Syllia." Syllia bowed.
"I'll get the water ready for you. I'll make it extra hot in case you decided to get in a bit later."
"Sounds good." With that, Syllia got the bath ready and left again, letting her know she'll be back by dinner time. It was around 3 in the afternoon. Sonja started a countdown. They had about 20 hours before it was time to leave. She knew time would fly by without a second's notice. She had all of her clothes back that was going to travel in. Cargo pants and her long sleeve shirt, undergarments, were nice and washed. They all smelled of lavender. Just like she did back in school. She had her backpack sitting on the table, along with her travel clothes. Everything was ready to go. All she needed was the things Syllia was giving to her.
Sonja was thankful for Syllia. Even though she only knew her for a short period of time, she could tell that they could have became friends if she were to stay. Sonja curled back into bed and made herself go to sleep. She needed all the rest she could get, and also get that last feeling of being in a bed.
The morning time was here and it was less than an hour for her to leave. She still haven't met anyone, besides Legolas. He seemed nice enough. She still felt a little embarrassed about that encounter. She just couldn't help herself. She thought in her head how their next conversation would go. She was all ready to go. Syllia had given her a couple different pairs of undies, one extra men's shirt, some type of break that Sonja's forgot the name of, a big goop of mouth paste to keep Sonja's breath nice and fresh, ointment for small cuts just in case, a bag of fruit for her breakfast, a hairbrush and a few rags to help her with washing up along with some smell good soap. She was glad it could all fit into her pack. Only barely.
Syllia and Sonja walked down to the area where everyone was to meet up. Sonja was nervous as hell. Being around people she did not know. The first day will probably be awkward, but she knew it would get better with time just like anything else.
"Are you sure you don't need any women necessities," Syllia asked, pointing her hand around her midsection.
"Oh no. I'll be okay. Back where I'm from you can get a type of... medicine...to delay the...monthly process." Sonja really had trouble trying to explain what the situation was. They were probably 100's of years before finding out modern medicine. "They can put it in your arm." Sonja pointed to a section of her arm, feeling for her Nexplanon. She had about two years left before she had to get a new one. Luckily she only spotted here and there on random months. So, she was good in that department. Thank God. That would be very annoying if she had to devout her attention every month to her cycle.
"Interesting. Never heard of such a thing. If we ever meet again, you shall tell me all the things about your world."
"Of course." The two of them made it to the bottom of the steps. Gandalf, Legolas, and the Hobbits were already there. Sonja was just ready to go hide. She held onto her jacket tightly as they got closer to the guys.
"We will miss you here, Gandalf," Syllia spoke sensing the tension rising from Sonja.
"Always a pleasure, Ms. Syllia. I take it, Sonja, that you're all ready to go?"
"As Ready as one can be." If her heart was attached to a loud speaker, you would be able to hear it from miles.
"Nice to see you again," Legolas spoke up. "Lady, Sonja." Sonja smiled back and gave a small, 'you too.' The hobbits introduced themselves. Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. She was glad they all had simple names that she could remember. Sonja stared at Syllia as the young elf almost swooned over Legolas. She was really a character.
"So this is the woman we have to escort." Sonja moved to the sound of the voice. He was tall and handsome, with a mess of sandy blonde hair, or red. She couldn't really tell. She felt intimidated a bit and sunk into herself. Syllia rolled her eyes, which was unusual for her, Sonja thought. She didn't think anything could get on the elf's nerves. She was really going to miss her.
"Yes, This is Sonja," Syllia spoke with her arm wrapped around Sonja's shoulder.
"I mean no disrespect," he spoke with a light tone. "I am Boromir, Captain of the White Tower of my city."
"Nice to meet you." Sonja didn't know much about him. Only the fact that he was here on the journey and he goes a little crazy over the ring of power.
"Oi! We 'bout ready to go," asked a gruff voice with a heavy accent. The dwarf walked up in stride. He had a tangle of bright red hair. He really stood out, even though he was short. But she guessed all Dwarf's were like this.
"We finally get to meet the wee Lass. Sonja, I heard. Gimli at your service."
"That's right. Nice to meet to Gimli." She could tell she would defiantly get along with him. He seemed like a real funny guy. She was also going to need practice with all these names. Last but not least, Here came Aragorn, also tall and handsome. Sonja wondered how she was to focus and not make a fool of herself with all these good looking guys around. Not that she would do anything with them. Legolas was a close maybe. Knowing what was going on, how was anyone to flirt and kid around.
"My Lady," Aragorn said with a slight bow. "I have this for you." Aragorn handed her a small enough Sword that wasn't too over powering for her size. It was bright silver with intricate designs all around the handle. It was really pretty to Sonja's eyes. Almost too pretty for her to be carrying around.
"Alas," Aragorn continued. "We wont let any harm come your way. I'm Aragorn by the way."
"That's what I keep hearing. I trust you all, but I hope I wont be in the way or anything."
"None sense," Gandalf spoke up. "Now that we are all here, we must be off. Long road ahead of us." Syllia turned to Sonja and smiled.
"It was nice getting to know you in the short time we had." Sonja smiled back at her while trying not to cry. Why was she so damn emotional?
"Thanks for everything, Syllia. You really made the past two days a bit better."
"May we meet again. Safe travels. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for." Syllia gave Sonja one last quick hug. Sonja walked with the Hobbits and gave Syllia one last quick wave. Sonja couldn't believe this was all happening. She felt like she was walking to her doom. Boy was she really in for a rude awakening.
Thank you for taking the time to read this story. I'm trying to stay on a schedule with uploading every weekend, but it took me two days to write and try to find all mistakes and correct them. Also kept changing the story flow. It's hard to write when you have so many ideas in your head, and writing dialogue is the hardest for me.
I try to keep up with the long chapters. I know when I'm reading, I love the long chapters. Anyway, happy reading. Please leave a review for me. Good or bad.
