Sonja on a quest
Chapter four
Hi guys. So this is a redo of my story 'into the woods.' I started it like 5 years ago and wanted to get back to writing because, once again I have gotten into the writing spirit and have been watching LotR a lot lately. I would have continued my older story, but my writing style has changed and the way I wanted the story to go has also changed.
Last but not least, This is a Legomance. It wont be rated M much later in the story. Will put up a warning on each chapter when the Mature themes kick in.
Again, this is a redo of MY story, Into the woods with the same character. All i own is miss Sonja Jackson.
Thank you again for reading and reviewing and adding this story. Best wishes.
written like this = someone's thoughts
written like this = speaking in Elvish
Next few chapters will be extra long because I am having a baby in 4 weeks and most likely wont be able to post for awhile after he gets here. If I do post when he is here, then I think I will be able to accomplish anything lol.
A week had past since Sonja has been traveling with the fellowship. She often wondered how people traveled without cars back in the day. Now she wasn't happy that she knew. She did not want to learn by experience. She was tired and felt dirty. Every part of her body hurt and she was sure she had swallowed plenty of bugs since they left Rivendell. She finally accepted that she wasn't dream and was actually present in Middle Earth. Since she ended up hurting herself a couple of times of course.
Sonja really only talked to the Hobbits. She felt a bit more comfortable with their presence. Probably cause they were shorter than her and acted like teens, though they were way older. They kept her calm with her jokes and made traveling just a bit bearable. They talked about where they were from, The Shire, while she talked about where she was from. She watch the four Hobbits try some of her slim Jim, and watched how their face lit up with excitement. Though it did almost have Merry and Pippin eat her beef snacks up. Now she only had three left.
She kept up her hope of getting home safe. She made herself believe the Lady of the Wood would help her reach her goal. She had to believe in something to keep her going. If she lost hope now, she'd probably tell everyone to just leave her. But who knows, they'd probably end up dragging her all the way there. To be honest, she felt like she was dragging when they weren't taking a break. She wished they at least they could travel by horse. Bill, the pony wouldn't cut it. She kept telling herself, if Bill could keep going, then so could she.
"This seems like a good place for rest," Spoke Gandalf. "We make camp here and continue in the morning." Finally. Sonja was ready to eat and get some sleep. It was a warmest day it had been since they left. It was early November, so she doubted they wouldn't have many more warm days. She might as well enjoy them before the cold could set in. Legolas left to go survey the area to make sure there wasn't any close danger around. Boromir and Aragorn left to go collect firewood before it daylight left them. The Hobbits and Sonja helped set up camp while Gimli and Gandalf kept watch.
Tonight on the menu was Fish and some fruit they had found along the way. Sonja had never had that dinner combination before, but it was way better than nothing. Fish was one of the few seafood items that she would eat, and for that she was thankful. She was glad that they had Sam with them. He was a real good cook and he made sure he had herbs and seasonings to give some kind of flavor to whatever it was they were eating. He carried all his pans and everyone's plates in his big bag of goodies.
As the guys were coming back, Sonja moved over to where Bill was as he rested and gave him a few pets as she sat beside him. Legolas deemed it safe enough for them to stay and everyone relaxed while Sam got busy making the food. She just watched everyone as a few of them held conversations with each other. She was surprised to see Legolas walking over to her. The whole trip so far, they had only said about a few sentences each to one another. He came over and squatted in front of her. She gave him a friendly smile wondering what was up. Sonja spoke before he could.
"Um, hey. Hows it going?"
"Forgive me if this sounds weird. While I was looking around, I spotted a small river and thought I'd let you know first before everyone else." Legolas spoke in hushed tones to try and keep his find a secret. He knew that once the Hobbits found it, Merry and Pippin would give no hesitation in jumping in before he got the chance to speak to them.
"Oh? I assume everyone is gonna want to bathe." Legolas nodded. Sonja already felt clean just thinking about being able to wash up. Not being familiar with the area, she was scared to go alone. She deemed Legolas to be trustworthy enough to go with her. She would of asked one of the Hobbits, but she wasn't sure they would be able to do anything if something scary jumped out at them. Plus Legolas could tell if someone would be approaching ways away. She decided she would ask him to go with her.
"Well, that sounds like refreshing. Would you mind going with me," she carefully asked. He almost looked a little startled, but it was hard to tell. "I mean, just to keep a lookout. You know." He gave a reassuring smile, one that would definitely make Syllia melt. She missed that elf.
"Of course my lady. Are you ready to go now?" Sonja wasn't sure if she'd ever get use to the 'my lady' bit. But since it was how they talked, she didn't bother to tell them to just call her, 'Sonja.'
"Yes," she said in an enthusiastic tone. "It'll pass the time for Sam to get done cooking." She gathered her pack and Legolas helped her up. Legolas told everyone what he found and that he was going to take Sonja first, and everyone agreed to wait till after dinner for them to go. Legolas showed Sonja over to where he found the stream. It wasn't huge, but it was enough to get the job done. It was quiet and moved along slowly. It looked to be waist deep at least. She was eager to hop in, she started to undress before Legolas could turn around.
"Oh, my bad," she said once she saw the look on his face before he turned around. "I forgot where I was."
"It's alright, Lady Sonja. I'll be standing over here." He walked over to a large tree and stood against it as Sonja continued undressing. Legolas's heart didn't race much, but this was one of those times that it did. He focused his mind on other noises going on and not the sound of Sonja walking into the water and lathering up her cleaning cloth. His ears did perk up a little when she let out her small moans while enjoying the water.
Sonja had gotten use to the water, and felt a little warm. At that moment, she could care less about anyone showing up. After a week of not feeling the water touch her body, this was like Heaven. Though she did miss when Syllia fixed the tub up for her and made it nice and soothing hot. She wondered if Legolas could do that, but she decided not to bother him. She spent 15 minutes bathing and relaxing in the water. She didn't want to take up too much time. She told Legolas that she was getting out and that it would take her a couple of minutes to get dressed again.
She hurried and dried off with the other small cloths as much as she could. She loved the water, but couldn't stand to be wet after she was done. After she had gotten dressed again, she let Her Elf companion know she was done. Legolas turned around with a smile. She noticed he hesitated before facing her.
"Feel better?"
"Yes, definitely. Thank you so much for watching my back."
"Any time. We wont get many chances, but I'll be here when you need me."
"You think Sam is done with food." Sonja's stomach was growling. She was hungry and still wasn't use to only eating at certain times in the day. She loved to snack and that was the hard part of being out here. More than walking in her eyes. She missed her chips, candy, ice cream, and everything in between.
"Should be any time now. Shall we?" Sonja Nodded as she walked beside The tall Elf. Her head barely came up to his shoulders. Then again, she barely came up to anyone's shoulders. It fell into a short silence as they walked back. It was only a five minuet walk, but it felt forever for Sonja since they were silent.
"So, Legolas. How old are you? If you don't mind me asking."
"Not at all. Almost 3000," he simply put.
"Hmm, I don't think I can imagine living that long. How did you pass the time?" Legolas gave a little chuckle at the mortal's innocence of Elves.
"Being immortal, age and time is of no concern." Legolas paused for a moment to give Sonja a simple answer. "Time seemly passes by for the Elves. We just live in the moment."
"Oh. If I was an Elf, I'd probably still waste a lot of time doing nothing." Sonja laughed at her own statement trying to picture herself with Elf life.
"That would really be something," Legolas spoke up. "I'm sure you'd live a long fruitful life till the end of time, or to take the trip to the undying lands."
"Undying lands? What is that?"
"Many of Elves and other immortals have traveled there and still continue to. It wont be long till there're no Elves left in Middle Earth. " Sonja thought for a moment.
"Even you," she asked hesitantly. Legolas nodded.
"No need to worry Lady Sonja. That is a far away journey for me. To be truthful, I haven't thought much about it." Sonja was surprised he gave her that bit of info. They hadn't talked much till now.
"besides the quest, are you waiting for something before you go. You have a wife or companion? Or anybody?" She felt weird for asking, but why else would he be waiting to leave Middle Earth. Then again, if his mate was an Elf too. Wouldn't she also go to the Undying Lands?
"How about this," Legolas perked up, wanting to also know more about the mortal woman walking beside him. "Question for a question? Deal." He stopped walking and almost made Sonja trip over her own feet trying to also stop so suddenly. Sonja thought for a second.
"Okay. Deal." She held out her hand for him to shake. He took it and they shook on it. His hand was smooth, except for a few callouses. She figured fighting with a weapon for so long was the cause of them. But even the callouses felt smooth.
"Besides, how am I suppose to pass the time," Sonja laughed out. Legolas allowed himself to hold her hand in his for few seconds longer before they broke away. Her hand was small, but was graced with long fingers.
"My turn then, but we'll continue later." The two of them walked into camp and Sonja was a little sad. She found herself liking her talk with Legolas. She wanted to know more about him.
"There you are," Boromir said annoyed. "We were about to send out a search party."
"It was only like 30 minuets," Sonja stated, not really liking his tone. She was with Legolas, and not like he was your average person. She was sure he could handle what could have came their way. Boromir scoffed and went back to polishing his blade. Sonja pushed him out her mind, not wanting to ruin the high she got from talking to Legolas and knowing that she would find out more about him.
She sat and waited as Sam just finished up cooking. She got her plate first, since she was in the company of males who wouldn't let her eat last. She didn't mind waiting. She usually waited for everyone to get their food at family functions. The fellowship sat together and ate and talked about plans and routes they should take. It was a hot topic among them Sonja had noted. All the grown men had an idea they wanted to share with Gandalf. Not Legolas. She figured he was a go with the flow type as well.
It was time for bed and Legolas to keep first watch since he didn't need as much sleep. As Sonja was getting settled in next to the Hobbits, Legolas came up to her once more before he went up in his tree.
"We shall continue our game once again when we're on the road."
"Can't wait," Sonja said smiling up at him.
"Rest easy. I'll be up most of the night on the look out."
"Thanks, Legolas. Good night." She laid down as Legolas hopped up onto a tree branch. He didn't overlook the fact that a pair of eyes bore into the back of Sonja's skull. He hoped he didn't have to wield his bow into Boromir's neck any time on their travels.
Hope you liked it. I had to do a chapter dedicated to Legolas and Sonja before I went crazy. Their relationship I am wanting it to move along at a normal pace. Not too slow, but also not fast. And since they are spending weeks on the road, their relationship will seem to be moving fast, but I assure you she wont fall head over heels just like that. But she will have a strong liking to him. You know when two people that are constantly talking to each other and hanging out, eventually they will have feelings for each other or just one sided. It's almost always bound to happen.
Anyway, thanks for reading and please review the story for me. Please.
