Spencer scanned the dining area of the metro court looking for his Uncle Sonny. The guard at the penthouse said that he would most likely be there. So far, there was no sign of him. He had only wanted to inform his Uncle that he had returned from Paris. Sighing, he gave up and was about to leave to go see if Trina was still at Kelly's when a familiar voice spoke up.
"Spencer, my boy! There you are! I've been looking all over the town for you these past two weeks and now here you are!" Victor Cassadine approached from behind, causing Spencer to tense up. Ever since his stint in Pentonvile, he had been rather weary of his great-grand Uncle Victor. He didn't like the news that the man had once put a hit out on his beloved grandmother and other things made him take Cyrus Renault's warning about him seriously.
"Uncle Victor, hello," Spencer greeted. "Did you want me for something?"
"Well, I just wanted to check in with you. Now that your baby brother is here, we should discuss how to get him away from that...dollar store Lolita. She is not at all worthy of raising a Cassadine heir!" Victor ranted.
"Ah, yes. Well, I have that all figured out and a plan is in motion, don't you worry about a thing, Uncle Victor."
"A plan? I take it that your two-week absence had something to do with it?"
Spencer was reluctant to mention his marriage to Trina. He didn't know why. Victor had never given any sign that he disliked Trina. He seemed rather supportive at times whenever he noticed Spencer's affection for the pretty gallery worker. But the man was still a mystery at the best of times and Spencer didn't really want to involve himself or Trina with the man too much. At least not yet. Maybe if it looked like he would lose his custody battle over his brother, but that was yet to be seen.
"Perhaps. Look, as far as my brother goes, I have it handled. I do appreciate your concern."
"Alright, that only leaves the question of where you had disappeared off to for the past few weeks. I did have something very important to discuss."
Spencer sighed and rubbed the back of his neck, knowing that he wouldn't be able to avoid the subject. "Well...I was in Paris. On my honeymoon if you must know."
Victor stepped back in shock. "Pardon me? Your honeymoon?"
"Yes. Trina and I decided that to have an edge over Esme, we should get married. That way the courts will look at Esme, then look at me and my wife. One a single mother, the other a two-parent home. We feel that the judge would choose the two-parent home."
"Well...I must say, the plan has its merits. You did have the girl sign a prenuptial agreement, I hope. Not that such a thing had helped your father."
Spencer looked at his Uncle as if he had two heads. "Trina didn't marry me for my money. She's not like that."
"I'm not saying that she is, my boy. A prenuptial agreement doesn't only protect you, it protects her as well."
"We didn't do anything like that. Besides, I trust Trina, just like she trusts me. We didn't feel the need for one of those agreements."
"You are making a big mistake. Your father had thought the same thing about Ava, and now that woman has Wyndemere!"
"Trina is not Ava. Besides, after all the hurt I've caused Trina, she deserves everything, especially if I mess this up again. Which I won't."
"I don't get you and your father! The both of you are not thinking with your heads when it comes to these women!" Victor ranted, disgust in both Nikolas and Spencer clear in his voice. "What is with the young men in this family?!"
"Have you ever been in love, Uncle Victor? Not the obsessive kind of love...but the kind of love where you would do anything for the other person, whether they were with you or not. The kind of love you would lay down your life for? Because that's the kind of love I have for Trina. All I do, I do for her, whether we're together or not. I just want her happy and she feels the same for me."
"That is all very romantic and good, but…"
"There are no buts, Uncle Victor. This is more than a marriage of convenience. What Trina and I have is very very real. It's true and pure and...this time I am not going to do anything to ruin it. If I end up messing up and losing everything, well it's what I'd deserve. I've hurt her one too many times already. I am going to make sure that I don't hurt her again."
"Is everything okay over here?" Sonny approached. He had just arrived and didn't like what he was seeing upon his entry. He didn't like Victor Cassadine and when it came to his sister's son, he was very protective. He also knew that Spencer was young and could be easily manipulated by an older Cassadine, so he especially was keeping an eye on the young man when it came to Victor.
"I was just having a private conversation with my nephew, thank you very much," Victor glared at Sonny, his dislike for the mobster apparent. He still couldn't believe how Nikolas had allowed himself to fall in with the criminal's sister.
"Well, I take it that the conversation is over now. You may go. Leave Spencer alone," Sonny folded his arms, sending the message that there would be no more talking to his nephew, at least while he was around.
"This conversation isn't over Spencer. We will continue later on when we won't be interrupted," Victor glared at Sonny, wanting to have his men take care of the mobster, but also knowing that Sonny had his own men and a fight right now would not help his cause.
"It is over. Now get out of here," Sonny spoke for Spencer. Once Victor was gone, Sonny turned to his nephew. "Care to tell me what that was all about?"
"Well, I came here originally looking for you but ran into Uncle Victor instead. He obviously didn't like my news too much," Spencer explained, rubbing the back of his neck.
"What news would that be?"
"Well...I suppose you've noticed my absence for the past two weeks."
"Of course. What is up with that?"
Spencer nervously shifted from one foot to the other, hoping Sonny's reaction would be better than Victor's. "I got married."
"What?"
"Yeah. Trina and I got married. We thought it'd be a good look when it came to gaining custody of my brother. I just got back from taking her on a two-week trip to Paris."
"Wow...I must say that I am shocked. I mean...you both are so young and marriage is a really serious thing…"
"We're in love, Uncle Sonny. It's not only because of the custody fight. We also want to be together and the trip to Paris...kind of solidified what we mean to each other. Trina...she gets me like no one else and accepts me for who I am. Flaws and all. She sees through all that Cassadine Prince crap and she sees me. She really sees me. I can't explain how much that means…"
"It means everything," Sonny guessed, looking at the expression on his nephew's face as he talked about his new wife. The boy was really, truly in love. He had actually found his person, so early in life. It was amazing. "She's an amazing girl."
"She really is. And I am determined not to mess up this time. Trina...she believes in me. I don't know why, but she does and I'm not going to disappoint her."
"And you believe in her?"
"Of course! Uncle Sonny, she is so smart, creative, brave, forgiving loving and not to mention gorgeous! She fits in my arms so perfectly, it's like she was custom-made for me, you know?"
Sonny laughed. "I think all men think that about their women."
"I want to hold her forever."
"Well, you do that. In the meantime, be weary of that Victor. He's not a good person, Spencer. I know that you want to think the best of him, but he's one of the old-school Cassadines. It's best to watch your back and Trina's."
Spencer nodded, understanding what his Uncle was saying. "I understand…."
"And if you should need me for anything, anything at all, you've got my number."
Spencer smiled, grateful to his uncle. "Thank you, Uncle Sonny."
"Anything for my sister's kid. Now go home to your wife. Something tells me that she's missing you."
Spencer chuckled and gave his Uncle one last hug before leaving the metro court.
…..
Spencer came home to find Trina on the couch, on her phone, swiping through the pictures of their honeymoon. Looking at the downturned corners of her mouth, he could tell that she was less than happy. He wondered what had happened at Kelly's to cause her to be in such a mood. She had been all smiles when he had left her to visit with Joss.
"Hey, Queen. I'm back. What's the gossip?" Spencer took off his jacket and walked over to plop down beside her and place a hand on her knee. To his surprise, she scooted up close to him and curled up against his side, one arm hugging his torso as she buried her face against his chest. He immediately wrapped his arms around her. "Hey, what's this? What happened?"
"Joss stood me up for Dex," Trina mumbled, pressing her face against his chest and breathing him in.
"She did what?!" The outrage was clear in Spencer's voice as his arms held her tighter. "I'm going to have words with her!"
"But then Molly showed up and I showed her the pictures and we talked and agreed to keep in touch since we're family now. Then Joss finally showed up and I got mad and was going to leave...but I stayed instead and found out that Dex was the reason that she had broken up with Cam. Poor Cam. We must have been in pain at our ceremony, having to be in the same room with Joss, knowing what she did...not saying a word to either of us about it...I just feel so guilty. I would have found someone else to stand up for me if I had known. I never wanted to hurt Cam!"
"That's why you're upset. You think you've hurt Cam?"
Trina simply nodded.
"Baby, no. You're not the one that hurt him. That was Joss. It was her, not you. You would never do anything to knowingly hurt Cam," Spencer gently rubbed Trina's back.
"How did I not know that there was more to it? We were supposed to be best friends and tell each other everything and she told me nothing about Dex. I had to find out that there was something by finding them kissing on the patio of Kelly's, then she totally forgot we were meeting and went off with him. If it wasn't for Molly showing up, it would have been a waste of my time. I'm just so...mad at her, Spencer, and I don't know what to do. I've never been this mad at Joss before. We were supposed to be friends, trust each other with everything, but obviously, she doesn't trust me."
Spencer was furious with Joss. Not only had she hurt Cam, the sweetest guy in the world who didn't deserve it, but she had now hurt his Trina. "Forget Joss, alright? She's...she's more entitled than I have ever been sometimes. Look, you have nothing to feel bad about, and as for Joss not telling you about errand boy...don't put too much thought into it, alright. It doesn't mean that she's not your friend...just that...maybe it's time to start putting up some boundaries. You know? If she can't share with you...well...you shouldn't be expected to share with her. Sometimes...as we get older, as our lives change...friends grow apart. It's...natural. Sad, but natural. You can't let it hurt though, baby. You can't. You just got to keep moving forward, one foot at a time."
"I never thought of that happening to me and Joss...but I guess it makes sense. I got married...she's still single. I may be a mother figure soon...I'm starting on a whole different path than her."
"That's right…"
"But it hurts, Spencer. It really does."
"I know it does. You two have been close for so long. Of course, it's going to hurt to grow apart. I wish that it didn't. But you know, just because you're on different paths, it doesn't mean that your friendship is over. It's just...changed. That's all and sometimes, change is good. That's what I've learned in my twenty years of life."
Trina chuckled and sat up and smiled into his eyes. "Thank you. You must think that I'm a real crybaby."
"No. You're just someone who loves her friends and wants the best for them. Who is hurt easily when that care isn't reciprocated properly."
Trina smiled and leaned in for a kiss. Pulling away she smiled, placing a hand against his cheek. "Let me go heat up that BLT for you."
"You got it?"
"Of course! My man said he wanted one, so I got it for him. Stay here, Preppie. I'll be back."
"I live to serve, my queen," Spencer chuckled, watching as Trina got up and disappeared into the kitchen.
Making sure that she was out of earshot, Spencer took out his cell and dialed Cam's number. It took a few minutes but Cam finally answered.
"Hey, how is married life?" Cam answered with a clear smile in his voice.
"It's awesome. Trina is more than I had ever dreamed," Spencer smiled, the smile faded a little as he remembered the reason why he had called. "Speaking of Trina...I need you to call her."
"Um...why? What did you do?"
"Hey! It wasn't me! It was that ex of yours! She let Trina know the truth behind your break up and now Trina is feeling awfully guilty. She thinks that you were miserable on our wedding day, having to be in the same room as Joss after the breakup."
"What? I wasn't miserable, I was so happy for you guys! You two kept me from sinking into depression and thinking that love was just a joke! You guys kept it real for me, I was not miserable or sad. I barely even looked at Joss at the time!"
"I got her calmed down, but I think that she could really use a talk with you."
"Ok, I'll give her a call. By the way, I got the girl again."
"Huh?"
Cam's laughter was happy and carefree. Young. It reminded him of Cam when he first came back to Port Charles, not the heartbroken young man that had left.
"I got the girl again! Guess who I ran into on campus during my first week?"
"Ok, I'll bite. Who?"
"Emma!"
"What?" Spencer laughed, clear shock was in his voice.
"Yes, Emma goes here too! She was registering for classes at the same time I was!"
"Well, Townie, don't leave me in the dark! What happened? Was she happy to see you? Heck, did she even remember you? Did you go out on a date? Shall I be preparing Trina for the epic double date when you return to PC?"
"Calm down, Spence," Cam laughed. "She did remember me and she was surprised but happy to know that I was attending Stanford as well. After registration, we met for lunch and began to catch up. She sends her congratulations, by the way. Anyway, we're going on on third date tonight…"
"Way to go Townie! That's my man! Hey, tell Trina! I had told her all about our little rivalry and thought it was adorable. It'll cheer her up to know that you two had reconnected."
"I will. I'm surprised you even told her about that time."
"Well...it wasn't the most shining time of my life, but it was cute and precocious and she was highly amused. I told her that it was a good thing you two never got together. That it'd be a shame to have to fight you for another girl again," Spencer chuckled.
"You would have won this time. Trina's crazy about you. I'm glad that you two have finally gotten out of your own way and got together. It got hard there rooting for you."
"We apologize. Anyway, I better go. She doesn't know I called. She was just so...depressed over the thought of you being miserable and heartbroken. Of course, it made me sad too and want to go punch errand boy again…"
"Spencer…"
"Don't worry. I'll keep my hands to myself. Joss's little boyfriend won't be meeting the Cassadine fists of steel again...unless Trina asks me to."
"She won't."
"I know, I know. Well, have fun with Emma, Townie. Tell her that I said hello and to treat you nice. I don't want to have to visit California. I'll bring Trina and she can beat Emma up for me."
Cam laughed. "Yeah, yeah. Talk to you later, Spencer. It was good to hear from you. You sound really happy and at peace."
"You know, I really am. Trina...she is my peace, you know?"
"I sure do. Talk to you later!"
Spencer hung up with a smile. Now how about that? Cam and Emma. Life had a funny sense of humor.
"What are you smiling about?" Trina returned, his BLT on a plate in one hand and a glass of lemonade in the other.
"I just got through talking to Cam. Our conversation brought him to mind. Be expecting a call from him by the way."
"How is Cam?"
Spencer couldn't help himself and he knew it'd bring a smile to her face. "He and Emma met up. They're going on their third date tonight."
"Wait...the Emma you two used to fight over?"
Spencer simply nodded as Trina came to sit by him again. "He's going to call and tell you all about it."
"That's so sweet. Do you think they'll become a real couple?"
"There's a chance."
"That'd be nice."
"You're nice," Spencer smiled, pulling her over onto his lap. "I love you so much."
"I love you too...especially when you hold me like this."
Spencer smiled, caressing her face with gentle fingers. It amazed him how soft and lovely one person can be. "I'll hold you like this as long as you want me to."
"Never stop," She smiled, gasping as he claimed her lips in a passionate kiss. The BLT sat there forgotten as the couple once again made passionate love right there on the couch, forgetting everything else but each other.
