A/N: Thanks for reading everyone! Thanks amacma for your review - I always greatly appreciate hearing from you!
Soon, Jack and Tony were headed on their mission for Emerson. Capture Prime Minister Matobo of Sangala and deliver him to Dubaku. Their only choice was to go along with this mission to get to Dubaku and intercept the CIP device.
They hit a roadblock, however, when Matobo had locked himself into a safe room, made with reinforced concrete. Tony and Jack understood that getting inside was not an option. But, without Matobo, they wouldn't get to Dubaku.
"What if they can't get Matobo out?" Chloe asked Bill.
"Pull up the schematics of the building," Audrey ordered Chloe. Chloe did so.
Audrey analyzed the image on her screen and then spoke into her com. "Jack, if you can hear me, there's an air ventilation system leading into the safe room. Break down the drywall on the eastern wall to see if you can expose it."
They heard movement and figured it was Jack and Tony trying to find the vent.
"The vent is probably too small for them to climb through," Chloe told Audrey. "They won't be able to get to Matobo."
"Gas," Bill muttered. "Gas them out. Make them open the door."
"But, what if they don't open the door? What if they just let themselves die?" asked Chloe.
"It's the only shot we have," Audrey relented.
"Any luck?" Emerson asked.
Jack explained the new plan to Emerson. Putting gas into the ventilation system in hopes that they'd open the door to save themselves. Audrey, Bill, and Chloe listened through the com and hoped that their plan worked. If not, Matobo and his wife would die for nothing.
Luckily, Jack's plan worked and soon Emerson's team had Matobo and his wife and brought them to a van. Just as they were about to leave, there was yelling. A woman was yelling at Jack, saying that she had trusted him.
"Who is that?" Audrey asked, worried that this woman would ruin his cover.
They listened as Jack talked to Emerson, "Her name is Walker. She's an FBI agent."
Emerson decided they needed to kill her, but Jack insisted that they needed to keep her alive to see how much she knew about their operation. Emerson agreed to keep her until they knew for sure.
"What are we going to do?" Chloe asked Bill about Renee.
"Nothing," Bill answered.
"They're going to kill her," Chloe said.
"Jack won't let that happen. I'm just afraid he's going to blow his cover to stop it," Audrey countered.
"Jack knows that the CIP device is the top priority. More Americans will die if we don't get to that device. Jack will do everything he can to keep her alive as long as it doesn't jeopardize the mission," Bill assured them.
Audrey shook her head.
"You don't think so?" Bill asked.
"No, I don't. Jack won't let an innocent person die if he knows he can stop it. Think about the nerve gas attack on the mall a few years ago. Jack was supposed to let them release the nerve gas in the mall in hopes that he would be led to the other canisters. But, he couldn't do it. He couldn't watch those innocent people die in the process."
"That's one example," Bill agreed, still unconvinced. "What about Paul?"
Audrey glared at Bill, knowing he had a point. He let Paul die to save their only lead on the nuclear warheads.
"Okay, but there's also me. He almost started World War III to get me back," Audrey reminded Bill.
"That hardly counts. Of course, he wasn't going to let you die. He cared for you. He barely knows this agent."
"I think we should start driving in that direction. So we can maybe get Jack out of there if he can't hold his cover," Audrey decided. Bill looked unconvinced, knowing that if Emerson had any inkling that they were being followed that it would not end well. Audrey looked to Chloe for support.
"I agree," Chloe said, knowing that Audrey was right. Jack would not let Agent Walker die.
"Okay," Bill resigned. Their team was hardly traditional CTU anymore. Although he seemed to have the leadership role, there was no hierarchy. Everyone's input was equally valued. And in this case, he was outvoted.
Audrey, Chloe, and Bill got into a van and began driving in the direction they knew Emerson was heading. They could hear on the com that Emerson had given Jack orders to kill the FBI agent. The com went silent for a while, and they waited to hear more. Soon, Jack was back and they heard that he had done it. He had killed Agent Walker.
Audrey was surprised that Jack would have gone through with it.
"Now, bury her," Emerson ordered.
They heard as Jack protested, claiming they didn't have enough time. Audrey knew immediately. "He didn't actually kill her."
"But, she'll be dead once he buries her alive," Chloe panicked.
"She won't because we will get there," Bill insisted, driving faster.
They heard Jack and Tony whisper their location, and Bill headed there, knowing that they only had a short amount of time to rescue Agent Walker.
