When they finally arrived at the construction site, Bill, Chloe, and Audrey began digging and uncovered the plastic sheet from Agent Walker's face.

"She's not breathing," Audrey panicked, checking the red-headed woman's pulse. Audrey started chest compressions.

"Get me the adrenaline," Bill asked Chloe. Chloe handed him a needle which he injected into her heart.

It took maybe only three seconds but it felt like an eternity for Agent Walker to wake up - gasping for air.

"It's okay," Bill comforted. "You're okay."

"Who are you?" Agent Walker managed.

"We're working with Jack. He told us where to find you," Bill explained. He focused her attention back on calming down. Once she was breathing normally again, Audrey and Chloe helped her out of the dirt and into their van.

"Can someone please explain what's going on?" Renee asked, as Chloe got out the first aid kit.

"Jack and Tony are working undercover to retrieve the CIP device. Tony has been undercover for a long time and we're working that angle to get to Dubaku," Audrey explained. "Jack only found out today and he helped Tony escape from FBI custody to reestablish his cover."

Renee seemed to be pondering the situation while Chloe tended to the graze on Renee's neck.

"You say Bauer and Almeida are working undercover but CTU has been shut down," Renee analyzed. "So, I mean, if you're telling the truth, who's running this operation?"

"We are," Bill answered, approaching them. "We're not working with any agency. We believe there's been widespread infiltration of the government by Dubaku and the Juma regime."

"Okay. I need to contact my boss. He needs to know I'm okay."

"You can't do that," Bill insisted.

"Why not?"

Audrey rolled her eyes. Had she not listened to what Bill had said? The FBI has been compromised. "Dubaku has informants in the FBI. If they find out you're alive, they'll know Jack was working against them. You don't know who you can trust."

"I can trust Agent Moss," Renee stated firmly.

"You're not listening," Bill scolded. "You cannot contact the FBI. You will jeopardize this operation. And I won't let you do that."

"Well, I don't work for you. I work for Larry. Now get me a phone."

"Sit still," Chloe demanded, trying to stitch up the wound. "Please."

"We're nearing the endgame," Bill whispered, praying that she would get on board. "Dubaku is the key to finding out who in the government has been corrupted. Luckily, we have something he wants."

"Matobo," Renee answered.

"He's our best chance to locate Dubaku, reacquire the CIP device, and get to the bottom of the government corruption," Audrey explained.

"Until all that happens," Bill pleaded. "You have to stay dead."

Bill's phone rang and he answered.

"Yeah, we've got her Jack," Bill assured.

Audrey sighed in relief over Jack being alive, which didn't go unnoticed by Renee. Bill finished his phone call and filled them in.

"Jack and Tony have taken out Emerson and his team," Bill explained. Dubaku was supposed to send one of his men, Nichols, to pick up Matobo and give Emerson diamonds in return. Now, Tony would have to meet with Nichols and convince Matobo to go with him with a tracker so they could be led to Dubaku. "He's going to try to get Matobo on board now."

"What if Matobo doesn't agree?" Renee asked.

"Then the plan doesn't work," Chloe said, curtly.

"Jack will get them to agree," Audrey said, confidently.

They got into the van and Bill drove them to Jack's location to prepare for the mission.

Chloe got out first, greeted Jack, and then went to put a tracker on Matobo. Audrey got out of the back of the van.

"Hey," Jack greeted, with a soft voice.

"Hey," Audrey said, nervously unsure of what to say to him or how to act. She wanted nothing more than to hug him and tell him she was happy he was alright. To tell him she still loved him even after all this time. But, the truth was that Jack didn't know her anymore. She had become a different person when he was in China and then another person after she had endured China. Jack would never understand her and there really wasn't any hope for them. Not if she was ever completely honest with him. She looked around, trying to figure out where she could help out, hoping to stop herself from saying those things. She saw that Tony wasn't in sight which made her worry. "Where's Tony?"

"Hiding the bodies," Jack said coldly. Jack wasn't sure what to think of Tony being broken up over Emerson's death. Tony said he was on their side, but he also seemed to be fiercely loyal to Emerson. He couldn't truly tell where Tony stood, which terrified him as they headed into this mission to retrieve the CIP device.

"I'll check on him," Audrey said, walking past him. Jack reached out and stopped her by the wrist.

"Be careful," Jack warned, locking eyes with her.

"I know," Audrey nodded, trying to make sure Jack was aware that she didn't trust him either. Audrey walked away and Jack was left to face Renee.

"You okay?" Jack asked.

"What do you think, Jack?" Renee asked, rhetorically. "You shot me and buried me alive."

"If we hadn't, Emerson would have killed you," Jack justified. "I'm sorry we had to keep you in the dark but we didn't have a choice."

"Yes, you did," Renee argued. "You could have trusted me."

"If I told you everything back at the FBI, would you have believed me?" Jack questioned. Jack didn't need an answer, as he already knew that she wouldn't have believed him. He walked away.

Audrey found Tony just outside the building, hiding the bodies in an outdoor storage area. He was standing over Emerson's body, looking contemplative.

"Tony," Audrey said, breaking him from his thoughts.

"Yeah, I'm coming," Tony told her. Audrey stepped closer and put a hand on his shoulder.

"I get it," Audrey told him. Tony looked up from Emerson's dead body into her eyes. He placed his hand on top of hers, brushing her fingers lightly. Audrey ripped her hand away. For a moment, it had felt like a different time period years ago.

One year before Day 6

"Morning," Tony said, gruffly as he grabbed hold of the hip lying beside him and pulled it into him, pressing their bodies together.

"Morning," Audrey replied, kissing him. Tony let his hands slide over her soft skin, eliciting a moan from her. She let Tony take the lead, letting him do whatever he wanted to her. She didn't care. It felt good, but it wasn't what - or better put, who - she wanted. But, Jack was dead. And, Tony gave her some semblance of an emotional and physical connection, one that they both needed.

But, before Tony could get too far, his cell phone was ringing beside him. He answered it, gave a couple of 'yeahs', and hung up.

"Emerson?" Audrey asked.

"Yep," he muttered. "I've got to go do a job."

He flung the sheets off his body and tried to get out of bed but Audrey caught his arm.

"You could quit," Audrey suggested, not for the first time. "Walk away from all of that."

Tony shook his head. "Not until I find the people responsible for Michelle's death and make them pay. Emerson is my way in."

Audrey sighed. "I've just been thinking and maybe we can do that another way. Through government -"

"No!" Tony shouted, more harshly than intended. "Dammit, Audrey, I thought we were on the same page. The government hasn't done either of us any favors, no matter how much we devoted ourselves to them. Your own father fired you for using DOD networks to attempt getting Jack out of China. Jack is dead because this country turned its back on him. And, Charles Logan - a president of the United States - was responsible for Michelle's death."

Audrey bit her lip. She understood what Tony was saying but the alternative path he was taking meant carrying out illegal activities against the government that ultimately had led to the deaths of innocent people. She didn't believe in that. And, she didn't think Tony did either.

"You sound just like David," Audrey whispered, shaking her head.

"Why do you have to make that sound like a bad thing?" Tony asked, annoyed. He and David Emerson were like brothers. He didn't like the thought of Audrey talking poorly about him. Audrey shrugged. "If I remember correctly, you thought he was pretty great when you traded him classified DOD files for information on Jack."

She sighed. "Let's not fight, Tony."

Tony huffed. "No, Audrey. You don't. You never believed in his cause. I know he's responsible for what's going on today. I know he's not a good man. But, I believed in his cause. Even if I didn't agree with his means. He understood me better than anyone else ever has."

"More than Michelle?" Audrey asked, trying to get him to think rationally.

Tony stood up and turned to her. "Don't bring her into this."

"Don't bring her into this?" Audrey repeated incredulously. "This is all about her. Emerson didn't know you, Tony. Emerson manipulated you when you were grieving. He made you believe in what he wanted you to believe. I know because he did it to me too. You think I never believed in his cause? Of course I did, that's why I gave him those files. But, once I thought Jack had died, I realized that he had just used my pain and my desire to get Jack back against me. He didn't care about you Tony. He lied to you. And, he was never going to help you avenge Michelle's death!"

"He didn't manipulate me!" Tony shouted. "He never lied to me! The government was responsible for Michelle's death and he was helping me get to them. I'm close."

"He let you believe that he could help you get revenge. But, all he ever did was use you for his own causes. He played you. He turned you into someone you're not."

Tony bent over, feeling overwhelmed because he recognized that Audrey was right. He felt like he was going to throw up. Audrey placed a hand on his back and rubbed it gently.

"What the hell am I supposed to do now, Audrey?" he asked, forcing himself to stand upright and rubbing his hand over his forehead. "Nothing I do will be able to undo all of the things I've done."

"Cut yourself some slack, Tony. Emerson used your pain against you when you were at your weakest. He manipulated you. You deserve a second chance. At least, that's what my therapist tells me."

Tony smirked. Maybe helping to stop Dubaku would offer him some kind of redemption. Would make him feel like less of a monster. "Let's go get the CIP device."

Audrey smiled back and she headed to the door.

"Audrey," Tony said, causing her to turn back to him. "I'm sorry. For everything."

"Okay," Audrey whispered, looking away.

Tony stepped towards her and took hold of her hands. Audrey didn't pull them away but averted her eyes so that she didn't have to look into his. "I don't expect you to forgive me. But, if there's anything I can do to convince you-"

The door opened and Jack stepped inside, seeing Audrey and Tony fly apart from each other. Jack looked at them confused, noticing how Audrey was turned away from him, unable to look him in the eye. He knew he had interrupted some kind of moment and felt his jaw clench at the thought of the two of them together.

"How long until Nichols gets here?" Tony asked Jack, trying to refocus them on the mission so Jack wouldn't ask what was going on.

"Five minutes," Jack told him. "The Matobo's agreed to work with us. Chloe put a tracker on them. We should get the Matobo's back in the truck."

Tony walked away and Jack turned to Audrey.

"How did he seem?" Jack asked, wanting to know whether he should trust Tony. But, seeing them together and obviously trying to hide it made him wonder if he could even trust her.

"I think he's on our side now," Audrey told him.

"Now?" Jack asked angrily. "You don't think he was before?"

Audrey shrugged. "Tony was loyal to Emerson. Emerson can be - well, used to be - very persuasive."

Jack sighed. "I don't like this."

"You can't do this alone. You need Tony," Audrey insisted.

Jack's jaw clenched again with his next question. He hoped it didn't come out angry or jealous or whatever feeling he was feeling right now. "Do you trust Tony?"

For the first time since he had walked into the building, Audrey looked him in the eye. "No. I don't trust him. You need him out there but make sure to watch your back too."

Jack looked at her, knowing she was telling the truth, but wondering why she would be with him if she didn't trust him. He wondered if maybe he had misread the situation when he walked in. He recognized the quick skittering away from each other as a secret relationship, as he and Audrey used to do the same thing around her father when working at DOD. He couldn't think of any other possible explanation.

While he was thinking, Audrey had walked past him, back to the main building and Jack followed, knowing that Nichols would be there soon to retrieve the Matobo's.

When it was time, Audrey, Bill, Chloe, and Renee went to a building across the street to take watch from and connect to Matobo's tracker.

They listened over com as Tony met with Nichols, claiming that he killed the rest of the crew so he could get all of the diamonds that Emerson had been promised. Of course, Nichols' men were told to shoot Tony once they had Matobo, but Jack was able to shoot Nichols' men before they could. Once Nichols realized that they would not be able to kill Tony, they took Matobo and his wife and went away.

"Are you picking up the tracker?" Audrey asked Chloe.

"Yep, I've got them!" Chloe agreed. Matobo would lead them to Dubaku.
