1st Day Back.

(Chapter 10)

Bailey took a couple of deep breaths. She sipped on the coffee Lou had handed her after he had gotten into the car and started it up. She glanced in the backseat and saw the boxes of Coco Puffs and Malasadas were secure. A grin spread across her face. Lou hadn't needed any help with the pastries just as she had thought. He was merely attempting to help her out of an embarrassing situation and mitigate her panic attack.

"Thank you, Captain," Bailey said softly.

"I'm not surprised it happened to be honest. I think you may have a little PTSD from the crash." Lou responded calmly.

"PTSD for an accident that I don't even remember?" Bailey asked doubtfully.

"You remember it on some level hun. Why else would you have the panic attack and bolt from Danny's car the way did?" Lou asked in return gently.

"I guess I can't argue with that," Bailey said reasonably.

"So how's the coffee?" Lou asked changing the subject.

"Perfect. To be honest I can't wait to dive into one of those Malasadas and have a couple of those Coco Puffs." Bailey replied cheerfully.

Lou chuckled and said, "Good, 'cause here we are. Ready to start your first day back?"

"More than," Bailey confirmed as Lou parked the SUV.

Lou and Bailey got out of the SUV. Bailey walked around the car and joined Lou on the other side as he was closing the rear door after grabbing the Malasadas and Coco Puffs. Bailey smiles at Lou. They both turn at the sound of another car pulling in and parking followed by a big blue pickup truck. Danny and Steve have arrived. It also appeared that they have decided to take their separate vehicles.

"Hey, Danny calls out after getting out of his Camero, You forgot your work bag in my car, Bails."

"Ack! I did! Thank you for bringing it." Bailey exclaimed rushing over to Danny and retrieving her bag.

"Don't worry about it babe," Danny said with a smile, accepting and returning a thank you hug from Bailey.

"Hey, Vi." Steve greeted his wife joining her and Danny.

Bailey slid her eyes to her husband and looked at him. She then gave him a small slow smile. She grabbed his hand and shifted her bag onto her shoulder.

"C'mon it's time to get to work. I want a malasada." Bailey told her husband playfully.

"The woman has a point, c'mon boys," Lou called over.

Danny, Steve, and Bailey burst out laughing and followed Lou into Five-0 headquarters.

"Hey look who's back!" Junior called upon seeing Bailey.

"Hey Junior." Bailey returned the greeting.

Bailey walked with Steve to his office. She generally did her paper/computer work on his couch. Although when she had started out with Five-0 she worked at the desk in the main area. She had started moving around to do her work about six months on the job about the same time as her first "Field Trip" as Steve called it outside of Five-0 headquarters. Just shortly after Grace's 12th birthday party. Bailey grabbed a sharpened pencil out of her husband's desk, causing him to move back.

"Sorry babe." She apologized distractedly.

Bailey then sat back down on the couch, opened her memory book, and began to write. Steve watched his wife for a moment and realized what she was doing. She was remembering and recording. He wondered what memory he would be reading about. She had said that today felt good for recalling her first field trip with Five-0. Steve hoped so, it had been an interesting one and he wanted to read her take and her thoughts on what had happened that day.

After about thirty minutes Bailey stopped writing and was working on her laptop trying to see what paperwork needed to be caught up on and what need to be filed or sent to the governor.

"Done writing down that memory already, Vi?" Steve asked curiously.

"No, but I am on the clock, Commander. I was planning to actually work at work and will write more of the memory down on my lunch." Bailey returned playfully.

"I married a woman dedicated to her job." Steve grinned.

"Yes, you did so unless you actually have something job related for me to do hush or I will go work in Detective Williams's office." Bailey teasingly threatened.

"Ouch. Is that any way to talk to your boss?" Steve asked feigning hurt.

"No, but I was hoping my husband would get the hint," Bailey said while continuing to work.

"Message received by both boss and husband," Steve said attempting to be serious.

"Uh-huh." came the reply.

The rest of the day went fairly smoothly for Bailey except for when the team had to go out into the field to deal with some sort of emergency the governor had called in.

"Danny," Bailey called waving over her husband's partner on their way out the door.

"What's up, babe?" Danny asked jogging over.

"Be careful and please don't let Mac get killed," Bailey begged softly.

"Don't worry the Super Seal and I have each other's backs. We'll be back safe and sound before you have time to miss us." Danny reassured her.

Danny felt awful lying to Bailey. They both knew what Steve was like out in the field but he didn't want to cause another panic attack or anything similar especially not on her first day back at work. Danny gave Bailey a hug and then jogged to catch up with his partner. Bailey looked around at the empty headquarters and sighed. Jerry was down in his tech room working and she would probably see him later. Max was over at the morgue and popping in on him before lunch didn't really seem like a good idea. So Bailey went back to her husband's office, picked up her memory book, since she had some free time, and began to write again.

Lunchtime came and went and Bailey only saw the team briefly at Kamekona's while having lunch with Jerry and Max. It was going to be one of those weeks. The team finally rolled back into the office at about six pm that evening. They were tired, hungry, and frustrated at hitting a dead end. Bailey was pleased to note that at least they were all in one piece.

"Y'all got what I need to get the paperwork done?" Bailey asked.

A collective groan rang out as everyone went to their respective offices to get the required information. Everyone was finally ready to go home around nine pm.

Bailey was lucky that she was able to take her work home and handle any loose ends there.

"Any objections to picking dinner up on the way home, Vi?" Steve asked Bailey once they were in his truck.

Steve was watching her closely to make sure there wasn't a repeat of that morning.

"Sounds good, Mac. But you know you may want to start the truck first." Bailey teased him.

"Right." Steve smiled and started up the truck.

On the way home the McGarretts stopped at one of Bailey's favorite Mexican Restaurants and ordered takeout. Once they had the food and they were at home, Bailey went to the kitchen. She grabbed a couple of plates and a couple of beers, then rejoined her husband.

"Here ya go Mac," Bailey said handing her husband his plate and beer.

"Thanks, love," Steve said taking them from her.

Steve dished up the plate and then handed it back to her. Then took the empty one and loaded it up for himself.

"You didn't have to make my plate for my handsome. I was just trying to hand you yours." Bailey chuckled.

Steve looked at his wife and gave her a sad smile. It was obvious that she had forgotten that he had been making her plate for her since New Orleans.

"Everything ok, darlin?" Bailey asked noticing the look on his face.

"I'm good, babe. How about some Doctor What with dinner?" Steve suggested.

"It's Doctor Who, you big neanderthal!" Bailey laughed.

"What, Who. I knew it was one of those things. The guy who travels in the phone booth." Steve said with a grin.

"Oh god. It's The Tardis you ding-dong. And it's stuck as a police call box." Bailey corrected laughing harder.

"What? I still don't see what the big deal is. Some weird English guy is running around time and space in a faulty time machine. Sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ask me." Steve said egging Bailey on.

"Oh, you…don't make me call Danny! Then you'll have us both ganging up on you." Bailey threatened, throwing a pillow at her husband.

"Oh, you wanna play huh?" Steve said catching the pillow.

"Steve what are you doing?" Bailey asked cautiously.

"Nothing just attacking my wife," Steve said calmly grabbing for her.

"Ah!" Bailey squealed and scrambled out of her seat.

Steve fell across the couch, laughed, hauled himself up, and proceed to chase his wife around the house. Bailey laughed ducking and running. When she got into the kitchen, she turned on the faucet and sprayed her husband with the spray hose.

"So that's how you wanna play huh?" Steve asked with a laugh and ran around the island.

Bailey slipped away. She ran to the back door, threw it open, and ran out into the night. Steve chased after her and stalked her across their backyard. He finally caught her down by the sand on their small strip of private beach. They both tumbled to the ground.

"Do you surrender?" Steve playfully demanded looking down at her.

"I married a Navy Seal and was basically raised by a Marine. What do you think?" Bailey countered laughing.

"Well, that is pretty formidable. Sound like you're not a woman to tangle with. But you know I just can't help myself." Steve said with a huge smile on his face.

"Shut up," Bailey told him and dragged him down to her for a long passionate kiss.

After the kiss was over Steve hauled himself to his feet, scooped up his bride, and carried her back into the house, right up to their bedroom.
