The whole team hopped into the van and Bill sped away, following Chloe's instructions from the tracker on Matobo.

"The Matobo's have been taken into a building," Chloe announced. Jack and Renee peered over her shoulder. "546 Adams."

"Okay pull up the sats on that address," Jack instructed.

"It's the Ritter Building. Four stories high. The building is two years old," Chloe informed him.

"Get me the security specs," Jack said.

Bill announced that they were pulling up to the building.

"I'm gonna need your help," Jack told Renee. Renee nodded, agreeing that she was in this with them and helped them come up with a plan for infiltrating the building discreetly.

As they slowed to a stop, Audrey touched Jack's shoulder to get his attention.

"Please be careful," whispered Audrey.

Jack brushed her fingertips with his thumb and nodded. "I will."

With that, Jack, Tony, Renee, and Bill all exited the van, prepared to go in. Audrey moved into the driver's seat, ready to make a fast getaway if need be.

They listened as Renee made her way in through the front of the office building, while Jack, Bill, and Tony went to the roof. Renee used her FBI credentials to get past security and then made her way to the roof to let the others in. Then, Bill and Tony went to the third floor where Matobo was being held via the stairs while Jack and Renee climbed from the fourth floor to the third using a crawl space between the floors.

"Uh oh," Audrey said, looking at a text message on her phone.

"What?" Chloe asked.

"My friend from DOD. She just told me that there's going to be another attack. A chemical plant in Kidron, Ohio. 30,000 potential deaths. Dubaku is using the CIP device to release a deadly chemical."

Chloe relayed the information to Jack who assured her he was working as fast as he could.

"Your friend is really bad at keeping government secrets," Chloe told Audrey. It was not the first time Audrey had gotten information from her friend at DOD.

"In her defense, I kind of told her I was working for Homeland Security," Audrey explained. "She thinks I have clearance."

They heard Jack over the com. "I see Nichols. We have three with automatic weapons. Three more over at the control station, most likely armed."

"Copy that," said Tony.

"I see Dubaku," Jack said, as Dubaku's face appeared from the camera Jack was using to survey the room. Behind Dubaku was a huge computer processor. "Chloe, are you seeing this?"

"Yes. The control station looks like an S-dart. It's a powerful processor. It could be driving the CIP device."

"Copy," Jack said, confirming that he understood. He had to take out the control station to stop this attack. Jack told Bill and Tony to move in from the front while they came in from their position.

Chloe and Audrey heard gunfire ring out constantly for minutes before they heard from their team. Audrey tapped nervously on the steering wheel, waiting to hear any news and praying that everyone would make it out alive.

"All clear over here!" shouted Tony. "Get Dubaku?"

"Negative!" Jack shouted back. Audrey felt a wave of relief at the sound of Jack's voice.

"Jack, I've got the CIP device. It's been destroyed," said Tony.

"Jack, it's Renee, the Matobo's are safe. I'm taking them to the van," Renee said over com.

Jack, Bill, and Tony started a sweep of the building to see if they could find Dubaku.

Soon, the Matobo's were safely back in the van with Renee.

"First responders are five minutes away, Jack," Chloe informed Jack, knowing that they needed to get out of there.

"Let me see your hands!" Jack shouted, obviously having found someone in the building. They prayed that it was Dubaku.

"It's Latham," announced Tony, referring to the creator of the CIP device who had been kidnapped that morning.

"Where's Dubaku?" asked Jack.

"I'm sorry," the man whispered.

"Cover!" Jack shouted, having seen a glimpse of explosives on Latham's body, right before an explosion rang out.

"What happened?" Renee asked.

Audrey picked up a com. "Jack? Jack, can you hear me?"

"Yeah, yeah, we're okay," Jack confirmed stiffly.

"What happened?" Audrey asked.

"Latham was wired with explosives. We still don't have Dubaku."

"What?" Renee asked, obviously annoyed.

"The CIP device has been destroyed," Jack said, reminding her of the one positive of this mission. "Stay with Matobos. Make sure they're safe."

They heard police sirens heading towards the building.

"Jack, the police are almost here," Audrey told him. "You need to get out of there."

Jack, Bill, and Tony made it back to the van and Audrey drove off back to their headquarters. Tony climbed to the front and sat in the passenger seat.

Jack watched intently to see if there was any kind of look or touches between them. There wasn't. Jack saw Bill sitting on the floor of the truck in the back and Jack went to join him.

"What's going on between them?" Jack asked, nodding towards the front seat where Audrey and Tony sat.

Bill looked confused. "What do you mean, Jack?"

"Are they together?" Jack asked.

Bill shook his head. "Not that I'm aware of. To be honest that would surprise me."

"Me too."

"Not just because of your history with Audrey," Bill clarified. "Audrey was against bringing Tony into our operation. She made it very clear that she doesn't trust him to have our backs. Seemed to think he might betray us at any minute if it was convenient for him."

"She said that when you first brought Tony in?" Jack asked, analyzing her reaction. "Did she already know he was alive?"

Bill shrugged. "I mean, I didn't think about it like that, but now that you say it, she wasn't surprised. Never asked how he survived. I guess she probably did know about it. Why? What are you thinking, Jack?"

Jack sighed. "I don't know. It's probably nothing. But, I'm starting to wonder if I even trust her anymore. I saw her and Tony together, holding hands after he killed Emerson."

Bill nodded, believing Jack's story, but still had a skeptical look on his face regarding Jack's analysis. "To be honest, Jack, I'm not so sure that Audrey and Tony being together would be a good enough reason not to trust her. She's allowed to be romantically involved with whomever she'd like."

"I know that," Jack defended, maybe a bit too harshly, wanting Bill to know that this wasn't just jealousy he was feeling. It was merely a feeling of suspicion. "Something just feels off about it."

The rest of the drive was silent. Unfortunately, their cover had been blown by this operation and the police would be after them. That made it difficult to find Dubaku. Not to mention their lack of resources and agents. Yet, there was nothing else they could do. The FBI, Homeland, NSA, DOD. None of them could be trusted.

"Chloe, pull up the Ritter building on the satellite grid," Bill ordered when they got back inside their headquarters. "Look for any sign on Dubaku leaving the site. We've got to find him."

"It's going to take me 20 minutes to task the satellite," Chloe informed him.

"Then don't waste time talking about it," Bill snapped, obviously stressed. "Pull up satellites, traffic cams, street corners, and Metro stations."

"What's the priority?" Chloe stressed. "I can only do one thing at a time."

"Satellite!" Audrey said, getting between them, knowing they were both getting frustrated at the situation which would lead to them being frustrated with each other. "I can get the traffic cams."

"We also have this flash drive we got off Emerson," Renee added. "I'll go through it."

Everyone was working frantically, but Chloe and Audrey got no hits on Dubaku.

"Anything on the flash drive?" Bill asked Renee.

"It looks like he saved government files to it," Renee explained. "I'm not sure it relates to Dubaku necessarily but maybe it can out some of the corrupt government workers and give us an idea of some of the people we shouldn't trust in the government."

Audrey looked up from the traffic camera footage she was going through and over at Renee. She then looked up at Tony with a worried expression.

"Can you determine who gave him each file?" Tony asked, wanting to help protect Audrey from being discovered.

"Yeah, the government clearance ID number that accessed each file is on it. I can cross reference the numbers through a database. I just need a few minutes," Renee said.

Audrey and Tony locked eyes again and Tony tilted his head to the side, silently telling her to meet him down the hall. Tony went that way and Audrey waited a moment before following. She stepped inside the bathroom and Tony closed the door so that it was only cracked open.

"You think your name will pop up?" Tony asked in a whisper. "I mean, your ID number is null and void, right?"

"I mean it will say I'm inactive but it will still come up," Audrey informed him, clearly stressed. "What do I do? Should I just tell them I did it before they find out on their own?"

"No," Tony hissed. "No way. You made a mistake a long time ago and I owe you. Distract Renee and I'll take care of it."

"Maybe it's just better if I fess up," Audrey considered.

"Jack will make sure you end up behind bars. Do you honestly believe you can handle being in prison?" Tony asked her. He heard footsteps in the hall and peeked out, seeing Jack's shoes heading towards them. He lowered his voice. "Shit. Jack's coming. He's going to know we're up to something. Kiss me."

"What?" Audrey asked, confused. Instead of answering, Tony lowered his face to hers and kissed her, Jack walking in a moment later.

"What are you two-" Jack started as he entered, but trailed off he saw them breaking out of a kiss. He couldn't deny his jealousy now as he felt his blood boil. But, he had to keep reminding himself that Audrey wasn't his anymore and it had been his choice to make it that way. "You really think this is the best time? We are trying to track down Dubaku."

Audrey wanted to yell at Tony for kissing her, having told him before that she never wanted him to do that again and especially for doing that in front of Jack, the man she still loved. Audrey felt ashamed knowing that Jack had seen that and what he must be thinking about her kissing his friend, even if they were no longer friends. At the same time, however, Audrey realized why Tony had done it. If they had just been talking when Jack walked in, he would have known that they were plotting something. Instead, he just thought they had snuck away to have a private moment together.

"Right," Tony agreed. "Probably not the best time. Let's get back out there."

Tony led the way back down the hall, followed by Audrey who had locked eyes with Jack before leaving the room, seeing a look of disapproval.

Audrey hopped back on the traffic cam footage and found an image of a man who didn't really look like Dubaku but could potentially be used to distract Renee for a moment.

"Hey, Agent Walker," Audrey said to the woman next to her. "Could you take a look at this? I can't tell if it's Dubaku."

Renee wheeled her chair next to Audrey, taking her away from the computer she was working on. Audrey purposefully showed her a fuzzy side view image.

"I can't tell," Renee said. Audrey saw Tony go near the computer Renee had been working on and Audrey tried to keep Renee's attention on the screen. "See if there's a better angle."

Audrey fast-forward the video and got a better view.

"No, that's not him," Renee confirmed. She went back to her computer and Audrey looked at Tony who gave her a slight nod. Audrey pretended to be focused completely on the traffic camera footage when she heard Renee muttering under her breath.

"I don't understand," Renee muttered. She pushed the flash drive into the computer harder as if she thought it was just no longer connected. "It's not working."

Jack went over to her. "What happened?"

Renee unplugged the flash drive completely and looked at it. It looked burned. "Look at that. It's like the computer overheated and fried it."

"Can we get anything off of it?" Jack asked.

"Right now, our only focus should be on Dubaku," Tony countered. "We're wasting time."

"Really?" Jack spat. "You want to talk about wasting time."

"He's right, Jack," Bill agreed. "Whatever was on that flash drive was never going to help us capture Dubaku. We need to focus on the satellites right now."

"Chloe, how is that coming?" Jack asked, changing his focus. Chloe shook her head, telling him that they had nothing.

"Bill, we need to rethink this," Jack proposed.

"What do you mean?"

"You were set up to surveil an undercover operation. Your cover's been blown. The police are after us. We are not equipped to look for one man in a city of millions. We need additional resources."

"What are you suggesting?" Bill inquired.

"It's time to contact outside agencies," Jack advised.

"The government?" Bill protested.

"I thought you said the government couldn't be trusted," Renee chimed in.

"Right now we don't have a choice," Jack said convincingly.

"They can't be trusted. We can't trust anybody," Tony added. Audrey knew why Tony was against this. Not only because he knew that the government agencies had been compromised, but also because he didn't trust them in general. But, most of all, he would be put under arrest. "That's why we're working on the outside."

"President Taylor can be trusted," Prime Minister Matobo said, standing up to join the conversation. They had almost forgotten that the Matobo's were there.

"I'm not questioning that, Prime Minister," Bill assured him. "It's the people around her who can't be trusted."

Chloe was the next to give her input. "Mr. Buchanan, Jack's right. We need help."

"It's too dangerous," Bill insisted.

"We can limit the flow of information. Prime Minister Matobo can get us past the president's outer circle - that way, we can at least explain to her why and what we're doing," Jack suggested.

"Jack's right," Renee agreed. "We left a lot of clues in that building. We're vulnerable. We can't do this on our own anymore."

"Am I supposed to remain in hiding with you?" Matobo asked Buchanan angrily. He was clearly on Jack's side. "Pretend that my wife and I are still being held hostage or dead? I need to return to the White House and help the President save what's left of my country."

"Let my husband do this," Matobo's wife agreed. "Let him call President Taylor. She will listen to him."

Bill looked at Audrey. She was the only one who hadn't given her opinion and he hoped she would be on his and Tony's side. Not that it mattered. They were outnumbered. Audrey looked at Tony. She knew that if they were going to work with President Taylor, Tony would flee. But, Tony being out there was less dangerous than Dubaku being at large.

"I agree with Jack," Audrey said.

"Of course you do," Tony scoffed, which got him a glare from both Jack and Audrey.

"Bill, you want to find Dubaku, make the call," Jack insisted.

Bill nodded. "Alright. Get me the White House."

Chloe set up a secure line for Matobo to call the President on. As the phone call began, Tony stepped next to Audrey in a corner to have a private conversation.

"I guess this is goodbye, since I'll be going to prison," Tony whispered.

"If you're expecting me to be sad about it, keep waiting," Audrey replied.

"I don't expect your sympathy. I know helping with the flash drive doesn't make up for anything."

"Good."

"Do you remember what you said to me before you went to China?" Tony asked. "That you believed I could make up for the things I'd done. And, that if I didn't I'd never get to see Michelle in the afterlife because I'd be in Hell?"

"I remember. And, you let me down."

"I know. I was still caught up in revenge. I want to redeem myself. But, I can't do that in prison," Tony told her.

"Maybe going to prison and facing up to your crimes is your redemption," Audrey suggested to him, recognizing that he was scared.

"Is that yours?"

"I've served time in a prison, thanks to you," Audrey reminded him, angrily. "One that was a hell of a lot worse than the prison you'll go to."

"I'm just saying," Tony muttered. "You think just because you didn't get your hands dirty that innocent lives aren't on your hands? You gave Emerson classified intel that led to a hell of a lot more deaths than I was responsible for."

"So, what? You want me to turn myself in too?"

"I want you to tell me that I'm not a monster. I want you to tell me that I'll see Michelle again. "

"I can't tell you that, Tony. I'm not the one who decides that," Audrey reminded him, knowing that Tony was just looking for some kind of validation from her. Some inkling that she still saw potential in him and that he wasn't doomed to Hell, having to live without Michelle forever. "All I know is that if you don't make it to Heaven, we'll probably see each other in Hell."

Tony shook his head. "No, I'm sorry for what I said. I'm just scared. You giving those files to Emerson doesn't make you a bad person. You made a mistake."

"What the hell?" Jack asked, interrupting them. He had finished his phone call with the President and had come to tell Tony that it was time to turn himself in when he heard them whispering and had caught the last part of their conversation. He turned to Audrey. "What did you give to Emerson?"

Audrey and Tony looked startled, obviously having been enthralled in their conversation enough to not notice Jack approaching them.

"Look, Jack, it's not what you-" Tony started, wanting to defend her.

"Shut up!" Jack yelled at Tony. "I didn't ask you."

He turned back to Audrey. Everyone was staring at her now.

"What did you do?" Jack repeated, stepping closer to her, feeling his anger rise at the thought of Audrey possibly betraying the country. She didn't answer but Jack put the pieces together. "The files on Emerson's flash drive? You gave him those?"

"He coerced her, Jack!" Tony interjected.

"Agent Walker, put Tony under arrest and take him to the van," Jack snarled. Renee walked over to Tony and Tony didn't resist, letting Renee take him away. "Everyone else get to the van too."

Audrey sighed and took a step to the door.

"Not you," Jack said, grabbing her wrist, holding her there forcefully.

"Ow," Audrey whimpered, his grip digging into her. "Jack, you're hurting me."

Once everyone else had left, Jack let go of her. "Tell me. Now!"

"It was a long time ago," Audrey muttered. "I gave him DOD files."

Jack shook his head, unable to believe it. This was not the woman he had been in love with all those years ago. "Who are you?"

"I'm sorry. Please let me explain."

"Turn around and put your hands behind your back," Jack instructed her.

"You don't need to cuff me, Jack," Audrey whispered. "I'll come willingly."

"Hands behind your back," Jack said again, emotionless.

Audrey put her hands behind her back and Jack cuffed her and pushed her towards the door. What Jack didn't notice was that Audrey was now crying. Not because she had been caught. Not because the love of her life found out about her betrayal. But, because she could so vividly remember how the cuffs the Chinese had put on had cut into her wrists. How they pushed her into her cell for the first time so hard that she had landed on her face, unable to use her arms to break her fall. How she was completely unable to push them off her as they cut her clothes away.

Jack tried to push away all the questions he had about Audrey's involvement with Emerson. He wasn't sure he even fully believed that she had helped him but she had admitted it. He had to remember that he hadn't seen her in years. She had changed. Just like Tony.

As Jack reached for the door handle to lead her outside, he noticed the tears on her cheeks, the flighty look in her eyes, and that she seemed to be panicking, her heart rate increased and breathing ragged.

"Hey, calm down," Jack whispered to her, not wanting her to be this agitated. She was having a panic attack. The sight broke his heart.

"Help me, Jack. Don't let them do this to me," she muttered for the first time in years.

Jack sighed, knowing that she had broken him. "Audrey, it's okay. Calm down."

She begged in Chinese for him to stop. Jack reached behind her and undid the cuffs and took her hands into his and lowered her to the floor where they sat together. "Hey, you're safe."

Audrey stopped crying after a minute or two and looked into Jack's eyes. "I'm so sorry, Jack. I'm so sorry."

"Please, explain everything," Jack begged in a whisper, wanting to understand her. They were very close now, falling back into old habits, their foreheads resting against each other's.

"I was desperate to get you out of China," Audrey whispered. "I had exhausted every option and felt completely hopeless when Emerson contacted me. I sent him files in return for a promise that he would help me get you out. He didn't come through."

Jack gulped. She only worked with Emerson to rescue him. Audrey was the most loyal person he had ever met. He only wished that her loyalty to the government had been stronger than her loyalty to him. She never would have been in China if that were the case.

"I know it was wrong," Audrey told him. "You can turn me over along with Tony. It's the right thing to do."

Jack debated. He imagined Audrey in prison. She had hyperventilated from him restraining her. She was suicidal or at least had been at one point according to the scarring on her wrist. She would have to relive her time in China. How could he put her through that?

"Did you ever contact Emerson after China?" Jack asked, trying to make sure he had all of the information before making any decisions.

Audrey shook her head. "Never. I swear."

Jack believed her. He pulled away and looked into her eyes. "And, Tony? Are you two together? Did you know about everything he did?"

"We aren't together," Audrey promised, dropping her eyes to avoid Jack's, embarrassed that she even had to admit this next part. Somehow it felt like even more of a betrayal than treason. "But, we were for a little while before I went to China. It's a long story and I regret it. I didn't know the specifics but I knew he was involved with Emerson and that whatever he was doing was illegal. I thought I could convince him to leave it behind."

"Why didn't you tell anyone? Turn him in?"

"Because he was all I had left," Audrey choked and Jack looked into her eyes, able to tell how broken she was for the first time.

Jack sighed. "Never talk about this again."

"Jack, what are you saying?" Audrey asked.

"I'm saying that you've already served your time," Jack said. "In China. Don't ever admit to this again."

Audrey looked into Jack's eyes. "But-"

"Audrey," Jack pleaded. "Let me protect you. I owe you this. Please."

Audrey nodded and Jack reached out to wipe her tears before they went out to the van. Audrey sat at the back of the van and Jack went to talk to Bill at the front.

"It was a misunderstanding," Jack told Bill and Renee. "Back at DOD, she thought Emerson had credentials. He was posing as a high-ranking official when he met with her. She only found out when Tony came to work with you guys that Emerson wasn't who he said he was."

"You're sure?" Renee asked skeptically. "It doesn't seem like you interrogated her quite like you usually do to people. Considering she still has all her limbs."

Jack glared at her. "She doesn't need that. She talks to me. She felt guilty about it but Tony convinced her that she would go to jail if she admitted it."

Bill looked at Jack and nodded. Jack could tell that Bill knew he was lying to protect her.

"That makes sense," Bill said. "Audrey would never risk the lives of innocent people."

Renee shrugged. "Whatever. We need to stay focused on Dubaku."
