Chapter 16: The Wolf Statue
"On three, go for Tamer. I'll distract it while you get him to safety," Kazemon instructed to Kumamon who shot her a sideways confused look.
"Are you serious? You want me to go in there?" Kumamon asked, looking ahead to size up the massive red dragon that was in front of them.
"Yeah! Your ice will protect you from the heat. Meanwhile, I can use my speed to keep distance ahead of him. Whatever this D-Reaper guy is, he has that's Guardian Spirit's power and the entire room on fire. If anyone is going to survive getting close enough to save Tamer, it'll be you," Kazemon explained to the little bear. She could see the concern plain on his face, but she really needed him to go along with her plan right now. Kumamon shook as he nodded, getting into a starting stance to rush in. It was the only chance either of them had.
"One," Kazemon started counting. "Two."
"Three," BurningGreymon completed the count, flying straight at Kazemon. She gasped and flew backwards out the temple entrance, leading BurningGreymon on a chase outside the pyramid and away from the camp. She rose high into the air, looking over her shoulder to make sure he was still just behind her only to find that he'd diverted his attention towards the camp.
"Crap. Roseo Temporale!" She dive kicked straight towards the back of the digimon's head, slamming him straight into the ground and back flipping straight back into the air. BurningGreymon slid into several tents and tables, sending digimon scattering away from his path as they tried to get clear of his impact.
He roared in anger, lifting his head and setting his sights for the digimon around him, "Balance must be restored."
"Will you knock it off with that balance crap!? Does anyone here actually look like a threat to you!?" Kazemon snapped at the digimon. BurningGreymon turned around to face her, the fire around his body growing larger in response. He let out another massive roar and soared straight into the sky, following close behind with his wings aflame as he went after her with every intention of destroying her.
Kazemon had just enough time to yelp before she soared away, trying to put as much distance as possible between the two of them. If she kept the fight in the air, she might have the advantage. Whatever this D-Reaper was, it definitely didn't have a full grasp on its powers or its body yet. Granted, she didn't have mastery over her wings herself - she was still much better off than D-Reaper in BurningGreymon's body.
Koji and JP leapt out of their seats when they saw the fiery red dragon beast soar out of the temple. They should've known something was wrong when neither Kazemon nor Kumamon returned from going after Tamer. But neither of them couldn't have guessed this was going to happen. Kazemon was just ahead of the dragon, luring it high into the sky and away from the camp.
"Oh wow. Looks like that prophecy was real, Bokomon," Neemon observed between a mouthful of food.
"I don't know why you think now's the time to bring that up, Neemon," Bokomon chastised his partner.
"You're just mad because you were wrong and you missed out on a chance for a fortune that could come true," Neemon laughed.
Neemon's laughter stopped when the dragon stopped pursuing Kazemon and turned back towards the camps. Kazemon turned to chase the dragon, and struck it with a powerful kick that sent it into the ground. They felt the shockwave of the impact as it landed, as well as the dust cloud that it kicked up into the sky. The resulting chaos sent digimon scrambling away from the fight, while some of the larger digimon and the digimon wearing 'armor' charged forward to stop the attackers. Koji looked to JP with a frown. He really didn't want to get involved in this but he was sure there was no running away from this.
"That…that's BurningGreymon. But whoever has his Guardian Spirit is out of control. We need to stop him," Lobomon's Spirit echoed inside Koji's head.
"It's probably Tamer," Koji said quietly, just as they watched Kazemon fly back up into the sky.
"It's definitely Tamer. Between the prophecies, all the warnings, and the bad vibes, I really do think leaving is the way to go," JP sighed. A blast of fire erupted from the red dragon as it lit the ground on fire and flew up after Kazemon.
"So you just want to abandon your friends?" Koji raised an eyebrow at JP.
"No. Just wondering why I answered that phone call," JP whined. "Guess it's time to Spirit Evolve."
"Not out in the open you're not," Bokomon warned, hurriedly pushing them inside some nearby tents. "Head for those tents and get out sight! Then spirit evolve!"
JP and Koji looked at each other in confusion, neither sure of why Bokomon felt the need to warn them.
"Uh…why?" Koji asked.
"Yeah, it's not like we've got a secret identity to hide," JP added.
"Because we still don't know what kind of camp this is and you don't want to be seen becoming digivolving!" Bokomon insisted, "You could start a riot and get all the digimon here against you if they find out! Now get in there!"
He gave them one last shove into the tent, where they found themselves looking face to face with a rock looking digimon hurriedly packing a bag. The digimon didn't appear to notice them until JP coughed and the rock digimon jumped. "AAH! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY TENT!?"
"Hiding from the big scary monster outside," JP said quickly. The little digimon's eyes narrowed on them suspiciously. It continued stuffing some more items into its bag - what appeared to be some scrolls and books, making a point of making sure whatever he was doing was completely out of their sight.
"If you're dumb enough to think hiding behind a piece of tarp will protect from that fire breathing monstrosity, then good luck to you. I am going to go do something about it," the rock digimon said as he hurried out.
"Like run away?" Koji asked as he watched the rock digimon disappear.
"He was pleasant," JP remarked, double checking the tent to make sure there was no one else here. "We're good!"
"Forget about him. Let's do this already! Execute! SPIRIT EVOLUTION!" Koji said, raising up his digivice over his head. JP did the same and the two transformed into their digimon forms of Beetlemon and Lobomon. Once they were done, they hurried back out to the tent and hurried towards where Kazemon was busy fighting the red dragon creating an inferno. However, neither of them could fly so they were helpless on the ground as they watch Kazemon try and lure the creature further away from the encampment.
"If she's smart, she'll lure him somewhere near water or away from the forest. That way, he can't light everything on fire," Bokomon thought aloud.
"Hopefully it's water. Then I can use my lightning to fry that thing," Beetlemon added quickly.
"I wouldn't count on it. We don't know if there's any of that anywhere near here," Lobomon reasoned. Though they would need a lot of water just to stop this thing from burning down everything around them.
"Hey!" Kumamon called out to the group, scuttling his way towards them with Agunimon slung over his shoulders. Beetlemon rushed over to the little bear's side to help carry Agunimon, shouldering his other side.
"What happened?" Neemon asked, snapping his fingers in front of Agunimon in a futile attempt to stir him.
"So, remember how Tamer said he had a bunch of voices in his head forever ago?" Kumamon began.
"Yes," Bokomon nodded.
"Vaguely," Beetlemon answered.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Lobomon answered.
Kumamon pressed on anyway, "Well, it turns out one of those voices inside of his head is a completely insane maniac who wants to kill everyone because of maintaining balance or something like that? I don't know, he was talking a lot of crazy."
"Which is different from how Tamer normally talks because?" Neemon asked.
"The point is that when Tamer got knocked out, that thing woke up and started walking around in his body," Kumamon explained. "Then, it went and found another Spirit to use at its new body - BurningGreymon up there. So until Tamer wakes up, we're on our own against that thing! It calls itself…D-Reaper?"
The sound of that name awoke something inside Beetlemon. A strange fear that he was unfamiliar with, almost instinctive. Like deep down, some part of him knew to be afraid but couldn't quite place. And he was caught between the conflicting desires to both run away and attack it.
"HE'S BURNING DOWN THE CAMP!" a random digimon shouted as it ran past. Everyone looked up from their bickering to see the dragon like creature flying low over the camp to sweep it with a fire blast. Kazemon was kicking at the dragon from the sky, trying to divert its attention away from the camp.
"Maybe she could use some help," Bokomon thought aloud.
"Well let's see how that thing likes a blast of lightning!" Beetlemon declared, charging ahead with electricity cackling from his body. He threw his arms skyward towards the flying red dragon and roared at the top of his lungs, "LIGHTNING BLITZ!"
Electricity arced through the air from his horn and hands, narrowly missing the red dragon. The lightning blast did bring its attention down upon Beetlemon and it roared angrily, "New threats detected. Engaging."
"What? H-how did I miss?" Beetlemon stammered out, stepping backwards. Lobomon cursed their luck as the dragon dove down towards them, wishing that they had the chance to fight on better terms. Then again, what difference was there between a burning camp and an open field against a flying death monster. Lobomon readied his swords and took a running start, timing his jump so that he could meet the creature in the air before it got too low. He swung his swords as hard as he could, aiming to clip the creature's wings so that he could take it out of the air. But the monster anticipated his attack and spun in the air so that his swords bounced off the armor, knocking him back towards the ground.
"Crap!" Lobomon plummeted towards the ground and crashed into a nearby tent, who's occupants ran out as soon as they saw the attacking creature. Kazemon doubled back to attack BurningGreymon, kicking the creature in the air and trying to pull his attention towards her.
"Hey! Jackass! I'm right here!" she shouted at the beast.
It stopped briefly to stare at her with that same unnerving calculating look it had before and remarked, "Low level threat detected. Reprioritizing."
It returned it's attention towards Lobomon and dove back towards him.
Lobomon had barely gotten up to defend himself when Beetlemon witnessed the dragon closing in. Seeing an opportunity for a point blank shot, Beetlemon rushed between the two and shouted, "LIGHTNING BLITZ!"
Electricity cackled from his horn and traced its way through the air until it struck BurningGreymon in the face, sending the digimon writhing as it collapsed into the ground and crashed. Beetlemon's heart raced with excitement as he watched the dragon convulsing from the electrical current. He had no idea that the attack would be so effective, or that it would even work. As he thought about it, Beetlemon realized that his idea was incredibly stupid with no actual reason to think it would work. In fact, why did he just jump in to fight this thing? Why was he fighting here at all? He could just run away and leave this all behind.
"We both know you don't have the heart to leave this digimon to fend for themselves," Beetlemon's spirit echoed inside his head.
"Oh, now you want to talk," Beetlemon said aloud, prompting a confused look from Lobomon. Beetlemon tapped his head to signal the Guardian Spirit was talking to him again, and Lobomon nodded in understanding.
"Finish your talk later. We need to take this thing down before it takes us down," Lobomon said.
"But isn't this one of the Guardian Spirits? Don't we need it or something like that?" Beetlemon reminded him.
Lobomon just shrugged, "If you have a plan to get that thing to give us the Guardian Spirit, I am all ears."
Beetlemon had no idea how to answer that, and it made him realize just how little they actually understood about how the Guardian Spirits worked or how that connected to the Digivices. Speaking of which, the D-Reaper didn't even have a digivice so how was it using a Guardian Spirit? In fact, how did any of the other digimon they'd met use one? He made a mental note to ask these questions later on as they rounded on the still convulsing BurningGreymon.
The camp guards had surrounded the dragon, preparing to attack the monster the moment it stopped crackling with electricity.
"Now's our chance! Get him!" Lobomon said, readying his swords again before charging ahead towards the creature. Beetlemon wasn't sure how good of an idea that was but rushed in anyway. The sooner they ended this battle, the sooner they could focus on other things.
"Thunder Fist!" he declared, clasping his hands together and letting an electrical current rush between them. He charged forward and raised his fist over his head and leapt up into the air. Just as he and Lobomon were about to strike the creature, BurningGreymon whipped his tail around and knocked them straight into another tent.
Beetlemon tumbled through the cloth and crashed into a bed roll, leaving him dazed and barely cognizant of his surroundings. "What the hell was that?"
Beetlemon could only watch as the guards moved in after their attack, only to be senselessly ripped apart or thrown aside with ease. One unfortunate digimon resembling
"Reprioritizing targets," BurningGreymon uttered as it stumbled back onto its feet. "Initial assessments incorrect. Prioritizing Lobomon, Kazemon, and Beetlemon as targets."
"I think you made him mad," Neemon remarked, poking his head out from under a table.
Beetlemon blinked at the digimon's choice of cover, as if a thin piece of wood would provide any meaningful protection from a rampaging monster like this one. Then again, the rock digimon thought he was taking cover in a tent so who was he to judge? "What are you still doing here? Shouldn't you run to safety or something?"
"Bokomon wanted to. I didn't want to leave you guys hanging," Neemon explained with his dopey smile.
"No, what I said was we should help Kumamon put out the fires! We've already got Agunimon to safety, but the whole camp is still burning," Bokomon clarified, appearing with a bucket of water in his hands. "Kumamon is using his ice to put out the fires now!"
Beetlemon was glad they were at least doing something this time but wasn't sure they should've been anywhere near the fight. He was about to scold them about it too when BurningGreymon grabbed his leg and started flailing him around in the air. Beetlemon found himself slammed against every tent, table, and other hard object it could before finally getting thrown into the ground. Beetlemon could barely manage a groan after being tossed around so violently and against his will. He stared up meekly from the ground as BurningGreymon leered over him, fire crackling in his mouth and ready to spew it out onto him. The heat of the fire was so intense that Beetlemon could feel it beneath his armor - bringing him to sweat. The Guardian Spirit's voice was screaming something at him inside his head but Beetlemon's head was too busy spinning to make sense of it. BurningGreymon would've burned him too if a ball of macaroni and cheese hadn't struck the creature in the side of the head.
"Back off!" Neemon shouted sliding between them with another scoop of macaroni and cheese in his hand. A scoop that likely came out of his absurdly deep pocket. Beetlemon didn't want to think about how disgusting that macaroni and cheese was.
"Neemon! Don't be stupid! You'll get yourself killed!" Bokomon shouted from somewhere out of Beetlemon's sight. He wanted to tell Neemon to go seek cover but couldn't summon the strength to even open his mouth. All he could feel was pain. BurningGreymon opened his mouth to spew fire, but was stopped by a surprise uppercut from Lobomon.
"TAKE THIS!"
BurningGreymon stumbled backwards and growled under his breath, "Targets in all directions. Position unviable. Retreating."
BurningGreymon retreated away from Lobomon and Neemon, hurrying towards the edge of the camp. Then Kazemon landed at Beetlemon's side, "Beetlemon! Are you okay?"
"I'd feel a lot better if my head wasn't spinning," Beetlemon answered quietly.
Lobomon extended an arm towards him eand declared, "Come on, get up! We got him on the run but that won't last forever! We need to keep him on the back-foot if we don't want to get our butts handed to us."
"What?" Beetlemon took Lobomon's help up and stared at the wolf digimon perplexedly, wondering what he was talking about. "Since when did you know so much about fighting?"
"Since I took kendo practice for two years! Now come on!" he answered, turning towards BurningGreymon and charging forward.
"Huh. Who knew he was so cool?" Beetlemon mumbled out, alarmed at how little he knew about Koji. In fact, he didn't know much about the others at all. "Did you know he took kendo?"
"How would I know that? The guy barely talks!" Kazemon blurted out. "Come on! Let's go after him already!"
Beetlemon nodded and rushed to join the others at the edge of the burning encampment, where BurningGreymon was staring off into the edge. Lobomon had both of his swords out and he was ready to attack but didn't. Beetlemon was left at a loss as to why he wasn't attacking when BurningGreymon appeared distracted, "What's going on? We have a clear shot at him!"
"What is he looking at?" Lobomon asked.
Beetlemon looked off in the distance, out into the forest for whatever BurningGreymon was staring at and wondered the same question. What was he looking at? There was nothing there but forest. Unless he was looking in the direction of where those other warriors had fled?
"There's power there. More power like this, waiting to be claimed," BurningGreymon said. That was all the provocation Lobomon needed to finally go after him, running in with his swords and leaping into the air to strike the burning digimon. But just before he could connect his attack, BurningGreymon took off towards the distance.
"Damn!" Lobomon cursed, putting both of his swords away.
There was only one thing he could've meant by saying he found another power. He was going after another Guardian Spirit. But how was it detecting those powers? And if it could detect them, was that how Tamer had been taking them from one location to another all this time?
"I'll go after him and stall for time! Catch up as soon as you can!" Kazemon declared, kicking off the ground and taking flight after the fleeing dragon. Beetlemon's shoulders slumped as he could feel his sore body pounding after they were done with all of this. His head was still spinning from the beating that the dragon had given him just a moment ago and now he was expected to go after the monster as if he hadn't been tossed around. And of course there was Agunimon unconscious somewhere while Kumamon was putting out the fires. He really wanted to just stay here and help with that, but then BurningGreymon would get whatever other spirit it had detected. He groaned as he realized he would have to go after them.
Gotsumon hurried as fast as he could with his bag, stopping only to double check his map and the book he had with copies of the clues and riddles he'd acquired on his long journey. It spoke of how the Beast Spirit of Light was sealed away inside a statue, and that the key to the seal were three gems that were hidden to protect the power from falling into the wrong hands. He'd spent a long time since this war started tracking down the clues one by one, deciphering them to find them gems that sealed the Spirit.
He'd hoped with its power that he could use it for good. That he could bring an end to the war and stop all the suffering. But he also hoped he would have more time to find it. Now that time was at an end and he had to find it now. To stop that…thing before it killed anyone else. Normally, he would've called it a digimon, but even the most mindless and animalistic of digimon acted out of instinct. Hunger for food, protection of territory, search for a mate. But there was nothing to gain from attacking the encampment. It wasn't eating anyone, and would've attacked sooner if this was about territory. Which meant this was all about one thing: malice. It was destroying because it could. And something like that could only be called a monster.
He double checked the last clue and cross referenced it against the map, hurrying towards the location he suspected contained the statue. Towards the sealed power of the Guardian Spirit Beast of Light. He just wished he could get to it in time.
Gotsumon ran along as fast as he could, trying to ignore the distant sounds of screaming and fire raging. He kept running and going until he came across a lone column of rock standing out in the middle of a small clearing. Against his better judgment, Gotsumon checked the clues and the map one more time to make sure he was right. This had to be the place and that had to be the seal. He rushed forward to examine it, spotting three grooves carved directly into the stone. This was definitely it.
To say he was excited was an understatement, hurriedly retrieving the gem keys from his bag and fumbling them as he quickly tried to place them into their sockets. To his surprise, each gem latched into place as if it were being pulled there by a magnet. And once all three were in place, the stone began to crack and break apart. Light trickled out from each crevice, breaking it through until the stone shattered apart to leave behind only a statue of a striped wolf.
"I did it!" Gotsumon cheered. "I DID IT! I FOUND THE SPIRIT!"
This was it! This had to be it! This was the Statue of the Guardian Spirit! Now he just had to claim its power. Which was easier said than done. Now that Gotsumon had time to sit down and dwell on it, a simple problem occurred to him: how was he supposed to claim the power? All the clues and riddles he'd found over the years had simply said he had to unlock it. But absolutely none of them made any mention of how to do it. Which dashed his dreams immediately.
"There has to be a way to get the spirit out," Gotsumon thought to himself. He paced around the statue quietly, hoping to find another mechanism or perhaps some kind of inscription laid into the stone that would transfer the power to him. But there was only a memorial plaque resting at the base of the statue.
In honor of the heroes who saved the Digital World
They had a difficult choice, and an impossible task
Their sacrifice and loss will be remembered forever.
And a fat lot of good that inscription did for him when he was trying to claim the spirit's power. Whatever it was, he would have to figure it out fast. There was no telling how far the light had traveled or how many digimon had seen it. It was only a matter of time before someone else came to try to claim the spirit. He hurried scanned the statue one more time, circling it carefully in search for something he might've missed the first time when he heard a roar.
Someone was definitely coming and panic set in. He was running out of time. That monster from earlier was on its way. It roared again, this time closer than it had before and Gotsumon knew his time was almost up. Perhaps he had to push it? Or talk to the statue? He screamed, "Hey! Wake up! I found you! Now give me your power! If you don't, a whole camp full of innocent digimon will die! Hey! Are you even listening to me? HEY!"
The statue gave no answer and Gotsumon felt his heart sink as the reality set in. He was so close. His goal was right in front of him. And he was going to lose it because he couldn't figure out how to claim the spirit's power. Then the ground shook behind him. Time was up. His shoulders slumped down and he peered over his shoulder to see the burning red dragon there waiting for him. The monster he'd hoped to save the entire camp. The monster he'd hoped to defeat to become the big hero.
He laughed as that thought crossed his mind. Perhaps that was his folly? Perhaps the reason he couldn't claim the Guardian Spirit was because it knew of his intentions. It knew he wasn't worthy of it. He was the wrong hands. If there was any solace to be had it was that at least this creature was also unworthy of its awesome power.
"HYAAAA!"
The pink fairy digimon that had been fighting the digimon back at the camp dive kicked the dragon from the sky, hitting it with all her might. The dragon actually flinched slightly from the kick, but it appeared more annoyed than hurt from her attack. Gotsumon wanted to think he was saved, but there was no denying that he was in serious trouble.
Kumamon hurried around the camp, using his ice powers to put as many of the powers as he could. Occasionally, he would stop to go check on the unconscious Agunimon, but he could never check for long before another fire needed to be put out or another digimon needed to be saved. He had just finished putting out some embers that smoldered into another fire beside one of the tents, when he hurried back to go check on Tamer. Just as he made it back to the tent, Agunimon suddenly jolted awake and shouted, "D-Reaper! No!"
He paused, taking in the surrounding embers and what remained of the burnt out camp. His eyes widened as he took in the scene around him, before he scrambled to his feet in a panic, "How long was I out?"
Kumamon stepped back, raising a fist and ready to strike in case Tamer still wasn't himself. He had admitted to having multiple voices in his head and he had no reason to think that Tamer was the one in control. He spat out in a warning tone, "Stay where you are. Until I know who's running…this…you're not going anywhere."
"Running? I'm not running anywhere. Well, except after the D-Reaper. Which I really need to get to," Agunimon sat up, pausing to look down at his arms. He examined him arms carefully, opening and clenching his fists in confusion. "Huh…when did I become Agunimon? Did…did I do this?"
"Say something only Tamer would say," Kumamon said cautiously.
"Technically, everything I say is something only I would say," Agunimon replied.
He was certainly annoying like the Digimon Tamer. But so was the other guy running around in BurningGreymon's body. He needed to be sure this was only the Tamer. Realistically, he could only think of one way to do it. "Icicle Punch!"
A blast of ice flew out of his hand towards Agunimon, who ducked out of its way before it got close. He stared up at Kumamon in surprise, "What gives, Tomoki?"
Well that was certainly something Tamer would say. Kumamon relaxed but kept a close eye on Agunimon as he stood himself up, "I had to be sure it was actually you and not some other voice taking control again. We really need to talk about that."
"We will. But right now we need to go track down where the D-Reaper went!" Agunimon answered.
Kumamon gestured in the last direction he saw the dragon fly off towards, "It went that way and the others chased after it. I stayed behind to keep an eye on you and to help out here."
"Oh…well thanks," Agunimon stammered out. "I mean it. Thank you."
Lobomon and Beetlemon caught up to Kazemon in time to see her fighting for her life against BurningGreymon. Just ahead of them was the statue of a striped wolf and what appeared to be a rock digimon hurriedly examining it. Beetlemon gestured at the digimon, "I know that guy! What's he doing here?"
"I don't know but we need to get him away from the Guardian Spirit and I'm betting it's that statue!" Lobomon said, drawing his swords out yet again to face the digimon head on. At this point, it didn't matter if the dragon flew away or was defeated. As long as it didn't get anywhere near the Guardian Spirit's power.
"Who's the idiot running around with BurningGreymon's power?" a new voice echoed inside his head. Lobomon looked towards the statue, lowering his swords in confusion. That voice didn't sound anything like the voice of Lobomon he was used to. It sounded different.
"Well of course it wasn't me. Why would it be?" came the voice he usually associated with Lobomon.
"Hey, are you alright? You're spacing out," Beetlemon said, waving a hand in front of his face to get his attention. Lobomon clicked his tongue at first, but realized this was a good thing. BurningGreymon's strength was unreal and difficult to match in their current situation. And now here he was with what must've been this new Guardian Spirit calling to him.
"I'm fine. I can just hear the Guardian Spirit," Lobomon said quietly, heading towards the statue. "Keep it distracted while I get its power."
"Oh sure. Keep it distracted," Beetlemon grumbled. Lobomon was ignoring him now and hurried towards the statue, where the rock digimon was busily inspecting it.
As he got closer, the rock digimon threw his arms out protectively, "Back off! This is mine! This is my Spirit to claim!"
"I'm sure you think so," Lobomon mumbled, keeping his eyes on the statue. He was waiting for the voice to talk again but nothing happened. "So are you going to talk to me or am I just going to have sit around and wait for you to talk?"
"Wow, you're rude. I didn't think Lobomon would've chosen someone rude to take up his mantle. Then again, he always was kind of a prick. Anyway, do you know what's going on with BurningGreymon?"the voice asked in his head. Given that these spirits tended to communicate by hearing his thoughts, he just went through everything in the last few minutes in his head. He figured that would be faster than trying to explain it to the voice.
"Wait, the D-Reaper has returned!? WITH BURNINGGREYMON'S POWER!?" the spirit's voice echoed inside Koji's head. Yeah, that pretty much summed it up. Wait, what did the Guardian Spirit mean by return? And had it fought the creature before?
"Yes, I have. This is unorthodox but I will have to lend you my power now," the voice said more grimly. "I will lend you my strength and you will put down this creature before it does irreparable harm."
"Okay. I know how this part works so let's do this," Lobomon said.
"Who are you talking to?" the rock digimon shouted, running between himself and the statue. Lobomon wished there was time to explain, but there wasn't.
"Yes, let's," the Guardian Spirit's voice echoed inside his head. A ball of light rose from the heart of the statue, slowly floating its way towards Lobomon and entering into his chest. The light grew and swallowed Lobomon's body whole as he felt a powerful surge of energy inside of him.
"Slide Evolution!" Lobomon declared as he felt the new power overwhelm him. He should've been use to this feeling, but this was different from whenever he used Lobomon's power. It felt stronger, more powerful, but less refined.
It was primal.
And it drove him to howl with his raised up to the sky above as the light finally faded away and he could take in his new physical form. He glanced down briefly to see himself plainly as a large wolf wearing resplendent white armor with golden trim. And as his howl ended, he declared, "KendoGarurumon!"
He howled one more time before rearing his attention on BurningGreymon, ready to join the attack. The Guardian Spirit's voice echoed inside his head, "Okay. It's time to save BurningGreymon."

"What else aren't you telling us?" Koji demanded on Tamer, watching as he strode away as if they hadn't just battled for their lives. That thing they had battled got loose because Tamer was unconscious and he was left to wonder what else could get out because of it. What other dark secrets was Tamer leaving out.
"I wet the bed until I was ten," Tamer replied nonchalantly.
"You are such an asshole!" JP groaned.
