Chapter 5: More Magic, More Problems
After taking the bus, Misty soon arrived back to her neighborhood.
Today has been a total bust in her eyes, and it was affecting her mood. It got even worse as she knew what awaited her once she got home.
"What a waste of an afternoon! That pampered, blonde princess is probably still with Danny right now, with her dainty little hands all over him! So not fair!..."Misty thought, grumbling and growling after getting off the bus.
She stormed across the sidewalk, heading into her house as her envy and jealousy continued to grow.
A fact that her spell book knew all to well.
Inside
Misty soon entered her home, surly as ever.
Inside her home, her laolao, her mother and little brother were all in the living room. As well as her "perfect older brother" Martin.
Misty frowned as soon as she saw her older brother, who saw her and smiled.
"Hey baby sis, long time no see..."He said with a smile and a wave from the couch.
"Hi..."Misty said in a not-so-enthusiastic way as her brother had tea with Laolao and Mom.
"What's wrong, baby sis? You're looking kind of down. Want me to play a tune to help lift your mood?..."Martin said, showing off his perfect teeth in a smile.
"He learns to a few songs on the piano and now he thinks that he's like Mozart or something. As expected from Mom's favorite..."Misty thought, negative feelings swelling up inside.
It was bad enough that everything she'd tried to do to get rid of the blonde princess had blown up in her face. Now she has to deal with her perfect brother with the perfect grades come back home about his perfect time at his perfect college.
It was enough to drive her perfectly CRAZY!
"What a show off!..."She muttered.
The last thing she needed today was dealing with Martin and whatever announcement he had. She didn't want to hear his gloating or hear her mother shower him with praise like he was some prince.
"Misty, are you spend time with us and your brother?..."Laolao asked, but her granddaughter didn't say anything to her.
"Young lady, Martin has come to visit and you will greet him properly..."Mei said in a stern tone, before turning to her son.
Her expression went from stern to happy in an instant.
"After all, it's not every day that your brother visits us from his college and was even willing to bring home a gift too..."She said, smiling.
"The real gift would be if he announced that he'll be living in a completely different state..."Misty muttered under her breath, already tired of having her big brother over and she hasn't even had a real conversation with him yet.
Her grandmother noticed her expression and was surprised.
"Is everything all right, Misty?..." Laolao asked, concerned. "You seemed troubled..."The old woman said, while her granddaughter got irritated.
"I'm fine! Just drop it already!..." Misty snapped.
Her family was surprised by the sudden attitude, and Mei got angry.
"Misty Lian Smith-Yang! How dare you speak in such a disrespectful way?! Apologize to your grandmother immediately!..."Mei ordered, but Misty glared at her.
"Fine! I'm so sorry for being such a disappointment to you all! There, I said it! Now, leave me alone! URGH!..."Misty said in anger, as she headed up stairs, closing the door with a loud slam.
Her family was shocked by this bizarre behavior. Laolao was concerned, Mei was angry and Misty's brothers were stunned.
"What's her problem?..."Max asked, surprised.
"Is she alright?..."Martin asked, having not expected this outburst from his younger sister.
"I have no idea. Lately she has had such an attitude and I am starting to think that she's not being honest when she says she is studying at the library..."Mei said, in a suspicious way.
"I'm beginning to suspect that maybe she's getting involved with the wrong kind of crowd and doing something that she knows that she shouldn't!..."The strict mother said in a paranoid way.
Laolao, however, being wiser and more understanding of her granddaughter, so she knew when Misty was acting out of anger and not from her true self.
"I am not sure about that, but it is true that she is behaving strangely..."Laolao said, not liking this.
This behavior was quite worrisome, but she doesn't know what is causing it.
"Is she experiencing adolescence?..."Max asked, and Martin nearly spat out the tea he had been drinking.
"Uh, little brother...don't say stuff like that. It's bound to make things worse..."Martin said, as their mother and grandmother kept discussing what to do about their sister.
"I am going upstairs right now, and give that girl a stern talking to!..."Mei said, looking angry.
Realizing that this might make things potentially worse, Laolao blocked her daughter.
"No Mei. She needs some time to cool down. I will talk with her later. Misty clearly is going through something and yelling at her isn't going to help matters. Trust me, a little time to collect one's thoughts can do some good in the long run..."Laolao said.
"But mother, she-..."Mei tried, but Laolao sent her a firm look.
"Mei, I am still your mother and this is still MY house, so let me handle this my way. Need I remind you of how you used to act when you were around Misty's age at that time?..."The old woman asked.
Mei blushed and huffed, while her mother sent her a stern look.
"I am serious. Just trust me to handle this my way..."Laolao said, more like an order.
Mei frowned, but complied since this is HER mother speaking here.
"Oh, very well...If you insist, but that young lady better be ready to apologize for having such a disrespectful attitude. I do not tolerate such actions in this family..."Mei said, arms crossed.
Her mother nodded.
"I'll give her some time to calm down and then talk to her. If she hasn't learned her lesson by then, we can lecture her together. What do you say?..."Laolao said, still concerned about her granddaughter.
Mei simply nodded her head in agreement and let the matter be for now.
The Smith-Yang continued what they were previously doing, however their minds were still on Misty and her bizarre actions and anger.
"Just what is going on with her?!..."They all thought, angry with her but also concerned.
Meanwhile
In Misty's Room
The young sorceress in training was now in her room, sulking over her lack of success today.
She felt bad about snapping at her Laolao and she'd definitely apologize to her later. However, right now, she wanted to vaporize something, magic it back to normal and than vaporize it again.
In fact, she did that just now.
"I CAN'T STAND THIS!..."She yelled, as she threw her lamp at her wall in anger but not before casting a spell to sound proof her room so that her mother can't hear her and barge in here.
Anyway, Misty used her magic to restore it and then fire a blast at it, disintegrating in in an instant.
"Temper temper, getting angry is just making you sloppier. And it shows with your spell casting, especially with how upset you got in the mall..."He criticized.
"Shut up, I'm angry enough as it is! And you're not helping!..."Misty said, as she repeated the process a few times, still in the middle of throwing her magical tantrum.
Her spell book wasn't helping calm her down either, to be honest, as he kept criticizing her.
"Well, today could have gone better...and I thought your ancestor Syaoran's attempts at courting were painful to witness..."Her spell book said, before sighing.
"Even after 800 years, I am still not sure how that clumsy fool had managed to win the heart of his wife Jing..."He muttered.
Misty sent him an annoyed look, as she recalled what he told her earlier at the mall.
"You said that you had a spell that could help me and that it needed to be private, right?..." Misty reminded, sounding impatient.
The spell book "nodded" before opening page after page flew by and stopping on a page with blood red script. Misty saw the page and raised a brow.
"What is this?…"Misty said, as she pressed her finger along the words and chants.
"The key to your destiny. With this spell, you will become Danny Fentons bride in no time..."The book said, getting her attention.
Misty scanned the page and was surprised by what she just read the contents of the page.
"A love spell?!..."She whispered in shock, while the book "nodded" once again.
"Yes, a love spell. It is one that one of your ancestors picked up during their travels, some rather unique information that he gathered from the fair folk..."The book said.
"The fair folk?..."Misty asked, confused.
"Yes, fairies as I believe you modern westerners call them..."He said.
Misty frowned.
"Fairies? Oh, please. There are no such thing as fairies..."She scoffed, while the book sent her a flat look.
"You live near a haunted town with it's own super hero, while you are training to become a sorceress and you are currently conversing with your very own spell book...and you think FAIRIES are impossible to exist?..."The book asked rhetorically.
Misty would have said something, but saw his point.
"So...fairies are real?..."She asked.
"Yes, and keep in mind...not all of them are as cute and friendly as people seem to assume nowadays. So it's wise not to cross them..."The book said.
"I'll...uh...take your word for it..."She said, as she continued to listen to her friend/mentor/spell book.
"As I was saying, this spell will make Danny yours…forever…"The spell book said, shocking the sorceress in the process.
Misty reeled back, scared from how the book's voice grew dark at the end. It almost sounded like the pages were talking about slavery than Cupid's arrow.
She was horrified to say the least.
"A love spell?! No way! Absolutely not! I'm not going to do that to Danny! I told you from the beginning that I didn't want to force him to love me!..."She said, taken back by this suggestion.
"This spell isn't going to FORCE him to fall in love with you...it will just...help him get away from the other girl until he is ready to fall for you..."The book said, but Misty shook her head.
"No way...A love spell...well, that would be...well, wrong, wouldn't it?..."Misty said, looking uncomfortable at the idea.
She wanted Danny to like her for her, not because he was under some kind of mind control. Stuff like that in books and movies always creeped the heck out of Misty, and as much as she wanted Danny to love her...there are just some lines even she wouldn't cross to get his love.
"It just feels wrong, I can't do that to him..."She said, but her spell book was secretly furious at her refusals.
"I mean...using a spell like this is like ripping away part of someone's freewill. I can't even begin to imagine what that would be like..."Misty said, unable to imagine what it would be like to be placed under a spell and fall for someone you don't actually love.
Meanwhile
Vlad and Alicia were currently making out in the living room. While Alicia peppered his face with kisses, Vlad suddenly sneezed.
"You okay, Honey badger?..."Alicia asked, while Vlad sniffled a bit.
"I am fine...Darling...Better than ever, actually..."Vlad said, the spell keeping him from expressing his TRUE feelings right now.
"Oh well, let's get back to our lovin'..."Alicia said as she pulled him back for some more smooching.
"WHEN WILL THIS NIGHTMARE END?!..."Vlad cried internally as he kissed Alicia back.
Back with Misty
She still didn't want to use the love spell, but the spell book still tried to convince her.
"Misty, look...I agree that love spells are a barbaric practice...but this spell is to free Danny from the love he has for that other girl. Isn't that what you want? To get him away from her..."The spell book lied, acting like it cared about the lives of mortals or their feelings.
Misty still seemed wary and did not feel comfortable with the mere thought of this.
"I…I'm not sure that I want to–..."She paused, while her book spoke up next.
"Want to what?!…"The book said, as it flew closer to her. "Want to find happiness with someone else? Want to escape from this torture you have for a life?…"He asked, hitting some sore spots with her.
Misty could only listen as the book circled around her with its words.
"All I'm saying, is that this is you ticket to happiness, or are you fine with that Star girl keeping it all? She says her life isn't that great, but why do you suspect that she enjoys it?…Hmmm?…I can tell you whom that befalls on…"He said, as he used his magic to create the image of the one whom Misty loved.
"Danny…"Misty uttered the boy's name with infatuation.
However, she recalled what he is suggesting and quickly snapped out of it.
"But...a love spell...that seems so...so drastic! No, I won't do it! I want Danny to love me for me and that's final!..."Misty said, still looking serious as she said this.
Her spell book then realized that as envious as the was of Star, Misty didn't want to sink to this level. Realizing that he won't convince her this way, he tried another tactic.
One that he was sure that she would get her attention.
"I agree. Forcing someone to love another by magic is truly despicable...but with this spell you'll be able to cancel the love spell already entrancing your future husband..."He lied, getting her attention.
"What are you talking about? What other love spell?..." Misty demanded.
Seeing that he had her attention, the spell book began to tell her "his version of the truth".
"You see when you were around your future husband and his "girlfriend", I sensed a powerful source of energy coming from him..."The spell book said, not even lying this time.
"A powerful source of energy?..."Misty asked.
"Yes, the the black haired boy had been in the presence of powerful magics...most recently one of the Fair folk and that wasn't counting his own energy. It was surprisingly strong and ominous..."He said.
"For real?..."Misty asked, surprised.
"Yes...didn't you find it strange that he seems to have contact with ghosts, he was aware of your rival having powers and pretending to be involved with that Phantom and acting okay with it... almost as if he was bewitched by her..."The book said.
"Now that you mention it, it is kinda weird..."Misty said, as she pondered a bit.
Suddenly, a lot of strange things that happened between Danny, Star and Danny's friends made a lot of sense in Misty's mind.
"The blonde rival of yours may be beautiful, but there is a limit to how enchanting one's outer appearance can be..."Her spell book said, getting into her head.
"I mean...he was even willing to stay with her after she got involved with those fools that she used to call friends, or when that foul stepsister of her tried to destroy them both when you granted her wish...and I don't need to bring up the circumstances of what happened during your first meeting with them. I don't know many teenagers willing to stay with someone who is such a danger magnet..."The book said.
"Well...you're not wrong. A lot of guys would get scared and probably head for the hills if their girlfriend was a magnet for disaster every week...or a girl who has a lot of baggage like family issues..."Misty said, as her book kept feeding into her negative emotions and delusions.
"Exactly, not to mention that even today proves that Danny seems to be under some kind of influence around her. I mean... I don't know much about courting in this century, but with the exception of the peppers...didn't everything you said would drive away the boy from the blonde girl only brought them closer together...almost like magic..."He said, getting into her head again.
Misty thought it over some more, recalling the previous failures at the mall and how Star seemed unusually lucky and how Danny still stayed with her, despite all of Misty's magical attempts to tear them apart.
It was like something was MAKING him stay true to her, regardless of what she tried, magic or no magic.
The hair...the makeup...the impressive Heimlich maneuver...and especially the ghost pepper incident, as well as all the other incidents that she has experienced today.
They were all failures and it seemed unnatural that every single one of my plans would backfire one after another.
True, another person would consider them coincident or note that Misty's own clumsiness and impulsiveness might have been to blame, but the young sorceress was not exactly at the most stable mindset right now.
She frowned, as her paranoia began to grow.
"Danny even stuck by her when she had troll hair and the same makeup as a rain drenched clown! She even used a milkshake to cure the spicy taste from the ghost peppers, which worked like magic!..."Misty muttered, paranoia growing as her eyes flashed green once more.
"Now doesn't that seem a little unfair to you?..."The book said, adding fuel to the fire.
Misty began to growl and shake as her magic, envy and paranoia coursed through her entire body. The more she thought about it the angrier she got.
"Was Star really a witch this whole time? She never did fully explain how she became Starlight Spirit in the first place...but now I'm suspecting foul play!..."She said, as her her fists clenched and her eyes glowed bright green.
A nearby unicorn figurine suddenly broke from her angry energy, not that she noticed or care as her anger and paranoia made her direct all her negative feelings and mistrust towards her rival.
"That brat! So, that's how she got a great guy like Danny in the first place! She put a spell on him!..."She yelled, her rationality dwindling more and more as her envy and distrust grew.
"She is the most likely suspect..."The spell book "agreed", adding more fuel to the fire.
Misty screamed as she was seething a little with angry magic, while her "friend" decided to step in "help" in his own way.
"However, if you break the spell and free him from her control...I bet he will be oh so grateful to you...he might even propose on the spot..."He said, smirking internally as he said this.
Misty blushed at the word "propose" and calmed down for a brief moment.
"We're too young for that. I mean...we're still in high school for Pete's sake..."She denied trying and failing to get her blush under control.
However, she recalled the images of their future together and smiled a bit.
"But I wouldn't be against saying yes after college and maybe a year or two of being engaged..."She said, blushing and giggling like a lovesick schoolgirl right right now.
"Of course, but first we should break the spell already on him..."The spell book said, and Misty's mood went from bashful to vengeful in an instant.
"Right! I gotta free Danny from that spell that blonde princess/witch has him under...so that he can be with the one who truly loves and cares about him! And that's ME!..."Misty said, looking more deranged right now as her anger and paranoia grew.
"That lousy princess will regret what she did to Danny when I get through with her! She's gonna regret what she did to MY Danny and for getting in the way of our happily ever after!..."She declared, determined as her entire body emitted an eerie green aura and her own hair began to lift up a bit from her own power.
"Tell me how to cast the spell and don't leave out a single detail!..."Misty ordered, while the spell book smirked internally.
"Of course, Misty..."The spell book said, "smirking" all the while.
"First, this is more of a potion than a spell and since you are not a fairy, you will need to prepare things in advance and get things ready for a special ceremony that will need to take place if you want everything to go well..."The book explained.
"Got it, now tell me what I need..."Misty said as she pulled out a note pad and pen.
The spell book smirked once again, happy to see that she was still listening to him.
"We'll need some ingredients...nothing to difficult...though we might need to use some substitutions, since a few others might be difficult to come across..."It explained.
"Such as?..."Misty asked.
"For starters, we would need some pomegranate juice, the feather of a bird with a full stomach, a silver coin-..."The book began to explain a long list of what they would need, and Misty wrote everything down.
All the while, the book was glad to see that she was once again under his influence and listening to him.
"All according to plan..."He thought, as he continued to relay his instructions.
Elsewhere
It was late in the after noon and Danny, Star and their friends decided to split up for the day.
Danny and Star were now at the park, sitting on a bench and recounting the day that they have just had today.
"Man, with the exception of nearly chocking and having my mouth nearly burned by ghost peppers, today has been nice..."Danny said, recalling what happened earlier at the mall.
"Yeah. Aside from having to save your life twice, and deal with my hair looking like a troll and defective makeup, it's been nice..."Star said.
"Yeah, one nice roller-coaster of day here in good old Amity Park..." Danny said with a grin his arm around his girlfriends shoulder, smiling at her.
"I kinda forgot what it was like to just kickback and not have to deal with crazy pests getting in the way of our dates and trying to ruin our fun time together..."He said, while his girlfriend sent him a look.
"You're exaggerating a little bit, Danny boo. Ghost fighting doesn't take up that much of our time..."Star said, but her boyfriend shook his head.
"I wasn't talking about ghosts, I was talking about the She-Vlad and how nice it is to get a break from her stalking..." Danny said, referring to Colette.
Star frowned a little at being reminded of her step-sister and her borderline psychotic obsession with trying to steal her boyfriend.
"Who am I kidding? It's straight up psychotic at this point..."Star muttered under her breath, before turning to her boyfriend with an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry about her. In a way, it's kinda my fault that she has her eyes on you, since she always wants to take what's mine..." Star apologized.
"It's not your fault and you shouldn't feel sorry just because she's a maniac who can't handle being told no..."Danny said, kissing heron the cheek.
"I know, but I feel like that a lot of my problems have been piling on your already full plate of supernatural stuff to deal with, since she wants you because I love you and her life long dream is to make me miserable for whatever twisted reasons that she has..."Star muttered, still glad that her hated step-sister is "out sick" and refuses to be seen by anyone.
"Plus, you're the only guy whose said no to her since puberty. You must REALLY love me if you are willing to put up with that total mess with an ego bigger than your Dad's..."She joked, while her boyfriend actually laughed at that.
"Star, if you can handle my dad's inventions constantly exploring at my house, ghosts who want to waste me and the Fruitloops crazy plans to either waste me, clone me, turn me into his evil apprentice/son or just make things hard for me...then I can handle Jean puke, king of the snobs and his fruitloop daughter, but only for you..."Danny said, being sincere.
Star smiled at the sweet thing her boyfriend said, and kissed him on the cheek before hugging him.
"I deal with it cause I love you, Danny-Boo..." Star said, hugging him.
"I love you too, Starlight..."Danny said, hugging her back.
Star smiled and responded by giving him a kiss. One Danny happily returned.
The couple soon resumed their date and quality time together, unaware of the schemes in the horizon as ANOTHER rival plotted to tear them apart and was being manipulated out of envy and misguided motives.
Oh man.
