Chapter 6: Chaotic Ingredients: A Shopping Trip for Two
Misty managed to sneak away from her house.
She used her spell to create an illusion of herself in her room to keep her mother from being suspicious.
"How long is that illusion going to last?..."Misty asked her spell book after she create an image of herself studying on her bed.
"It should last about 3 hours? Though she won't be able to make much responses...just basic "yes" and "no" responses. So, don't expect to be the life of the party for the next few hours..."The book explained.
"Works for me. Me and mom are in a fight and I once went three days without talking to her. So, she won't suspect anything. Now lets go get those ingredients, before the three hours are up or else mom will find me missing from my room and ground me...and that will make winning Danny's heart even harder..."Misty said.
"Understood..."The book said.
Misty quickly cast a spell and she now sported red hair, brown eyes, glasses and new clothes that were inverting her regular colors of her usual outfit.
She smirked.
"I really wish that these illusions weren't temporary. I'd probably become a shoo-in for best dressed at school and without having to pay a penny..."Misty muttered.
"Focus. We have ingredients to find..."Her book reminded, sitting in her bag.
"Right. Right..."Misty said, as she cast another spell.
A teleportation spell and she was soon out of her neighborhood.
"So much better than taking the bus..."She thought, as she continued with her plot.
Later
Downtown Amity Park
Misty and her book soon arrived at down town Amity Park.
The reason was to find the missing ingredients for what she was sure would be her latest and greatest spell.
"Okay, let's see what's first on the list..."Misty said, as she pulled out the list.
She gave it a quick read.
"Pomegranate juice. That shouldn't be too hard..."Misty said.
"Keep in mind, Misty. It has to be pure pomegranate juice..."The spell book said.
"Pure? You mean all natural?..."Misty asked, and the book "nodded".
"Yes...the pure juice that comes fresh from the very fruit itself. Not the kind that is filled with sugars and all the other artificial stuff you're generation seems fond of adding, such as artificial dyes and flavors..."He said, before he let out something that sounds like a groan.
"Ugh! Honestly, I'm surprised that your generation allow such stuff into your bodies...that, and allowing other atrocities to go ignored, like all the garbage on the ground and all the filth caused by those horseless carriages you call cars...it's no wonder so many people are sick nowadays..."The book muttered.
"Never took you to be an Eco-friendly health nut..."Misty commented.
"Back in my day, people tried their best to avoid food that can be poor to our health. There is even a saying back in the homeland that means "The disease comes through the mouth. We have to pay attention to what we eat"..."The book said in a knowing way.
"Your day?..."Misty asked out-loud.
"We are getting off topic. The juice!..."The book reminded.
"Oh, right..."Misty said, as she went to find some pomegranate juice.
She soon arrived to a local grocery shop and saw some fruit for sale. Some of them are organic.
She checked the organic ones, but nearly blanched at the prices.
"Geez, I knew organic was pricier than regular stuff but sheesh! This stuff is three times more expensive than what we usually pay for..."She said, seeing that it was more expensive than the regular fruit.
"You are willing to pay any price for true love, aren't you?..."The book asked, getting into her head again.
Those words got to Misty and the dark haired girl sighed, as she knew that she wanted Danny more than anything and she was desperate to free him from Star's control. She thought about the happy future that awaits them if this spell goes well, so she decided that she needed to do this, even if it will put a big dent in her wallet.
"If it means that I will have Danny in my arms, then it's worth it..."She thought, as she bought some of the organic pomegranates at full price.
"It'll all be worth it when I become Mrs. Danny Fenton and no longer have to live in dirt poor Elmerton. This will all be worth it when I have my sweet little Vincent along with Danny, and we all live happily ever after. I just know it..."She thought, as she left the shop with her purchases.
Afterwards
After buying the fruit, the dark haired girl tried to find what is next on her list.
"Okay, it says here that I need the feather of a bird with a full stomach?..."Misty asked, confused.
"Yes, indeed..."He said.
"So, it can be any bird?..."Misty asked, wanting to be sure.
"Yes, it doesn't really matter so long as they have a full stomach..."The book explained.
"Why?..."Misty asked, and the book sighed.
"Honestly, I don't know. I didn't create the spell, all I know that we need to follow every detail of the spell to the letter. Otherwise, the potion won't be as effective at best or be utterly useless at worst..."The book said.
Misty nodded, as she tried to find any birds around. She entered a nearby alley and saw several pigeons on the ground looking for something to eat.
"Okay, found the birds..."She said.
"Remember, that the feather has to be freshly plucked. Old feathers you find lying around will not do..."The book explained.
"Got it..."Misty said, as she pulled out something from her bags.
It was crackers that she brought from home. She quickly crushed them and smirked.
"Here, birdie, birdie, birdie!..."Misty said, as she tossed the crushed crackers on the ground.
The pigeons saw this and quickly went to it, began gobbling it all up.
Misty smirked.
"Bingo..."She said as she made her move.
Misty tried to get a feather, but the pigeons started flying away as soon as she approached them. The bird saw her and tried to fly away, being spooked by her. The dark haired girl frowned but kept on trying.
"Oh no you don't!..."She said, as she tried use her powers to nab the feather.
After a few minutes of chasing the pigeon, she managed to pluck the feather from pigeon and smiled.
"Got it!..."Misty said in triumph as she held the feather in her hand.
"Wonderful!..."The book said, pleased.
Misty placed the feather in a plastic bag and placed it inside her purse.
"Another point for the Yang clan!..."She said, happy that things were working out.
Later
"Okay...it says here that the next thing on the list is a silver coin. Does that mean that a quarter counts?..."Misty asked.
The book thought about it, before responding.
"According to the spell, it has to be pure silver..."He explained, but Misty got upset.
"Do you have any idea how much coins like that cost nowadays?..."She asked, looking upset that this might cost her.
"Back in the glory days of the Yang clan, silver coins were fairly easy to acquire and only the poor couldn't obtain them. Your question suggests things changed since then..."The book explained.
"Yeah, well, it's the twenty first century and the Yang clan is just me and you right now. Not to mention, I only have $40 left on me from the money Laolao gave me for helping her sell that sauce..."Misty explained.
"Why not locate the coin first before you begin to complain on finding ways to obtain it..."The book suggested.
Misty nodded, as she tried to look around.
She found a nearby pawn shop and entered it. It didn't take long for her to find what she was looking for. She saw a bunch of fancy coins, the kind that collectors love to have on sale.
"Excuse me? Do you have any pure silver coins around here?..."Misty asked, and the shop keeper nodded.
"Yes, there are right here. 100 percent genuine silver coins, all collectibles. Take your pick..."The shop keeper said.
"I see. Thanks..."Misty said, as she examined them.
"So, you're a young collector?..."The guy asked.
"Something like that..."Misty said, as she checked the coins on sale.
Her eyes widened when she saw the prices.
"$30 for one silver coin?!..."She whispered in shock, as she stared at the cheapest one.
"Is there any problem there?..."The shop keeper said.
"Uh...No...just...browsing around. That's all..."Misty said, as she pretended to be browsing and tried to look innocent.
As the shop keeper went to deal with another customer, the book began to speak to Misty again.
"What are you waiting for?! You found the coin! Just get it!..."The book urged, sounding impatient right now.
"I know...but thirty bucks...if mom ever finds out I spent all that money on something like this, she'd kill me!..."Misty said, looking reluctant.
"That's 10 dollars less than what you have..." The book said. "What's the problem?..."He asked, sounding impatient.
"I'm not ready to spend that much on a coin..." Misty replied.
"I never said you had to pay for it. Just steal it while the shop keeper isn't looking..."The book said, and Misty's eyes widened.
"What?!..."She exclaimed, only to regret it since she was speaking out loud.
She noticed other people staring at her and quickly tried to save face.
"Oh my...a near mint condition copy of...the Crimson Chin...no way..."She said in faux awe as she pretended to look over some of the collectibles on sale.
Once eyes were no longer on her, Misty went outside and have a "discussion with her book".
"What are you doing out here? The coin is inside!..."The book said, sounding upset.
"Sorry, but I'm still processing the fact that you told me to steal it! Are you nuts?!..."Misty asked, looking angry.
"You said so yourself, that it was expensive and that you didn't want to pay for it..."The book said.
"That doesn't mean that I'm okay with stealing..."Misty said.
"Says the girl willing to steal another's beloved..."The book commented, and Misty got offended.
"This and that are two totally different things. Stealing stuff like an overpriced coin is illegal and really risky. If mom finds out about this, she'll kill me if the cops don't try and lock me up first..."Misty said, not wanting to stoop to this level
"You are heiress to the Yang clan's secrets and come from generations of power and glory, they should be honored to serve you no matter what you plan to do, including handing over something as insignificant as a mere coin. Still, if this bothers you then I suppose you have no choice but to pay that greedy shop keeper his ridiculous price for his coin..."The book said, before smirking.
"Or...you could use your teleportation spell to...relocate it..."The book said in a hinting way.
"I...I can't do that. What if we get caught?..."Misty asked.
"You don't have to be inside the store to do it. You just need to think about the coin that you want and poof, it will appear right before you..."He explained.
"But...that's...that's still stealing. Not to mention, the shop keeper will be sure to notice that coin is gone and probably will get the cops involved. COPS! I don't wanna get a criminal record, it's gonna look REALLY bad on my college applications!..."Misty said, looking distressed.
"If you are worried of getting caught, you can create a fake illusion of the same coin and once the spell is complete, you can return the real one. No one would ever have to know what happened and your conscious will be free of guilt..."The book said.
Misty thought about it, but still seemed unsure.
"I mean...it would be temporary...and it's not like the guy would notice the swap. Still, this feels wrong. Really wrong. Should I even be doing this?..."She thought to herself as she considered just paying the money, even if it was really expensive.
However, her eye briefly turned red but it ended so quickly nobody would've noticed. Her eyes turned green again, as she considered this.
"Well, I guess as long as we return it later and the owner never finds out, then there is no real issue. And it's for Danny, and I'd do anything for him..."She said, as her eyes returned to their original color.
"Right..."The book said, as Misty soon began to perform her next spell.
"Cuòjué!..."She shouted, as she create a fake duplicate of the coin.
She examined it and smirked.
"Perfect. It looks exactly the same. No one will ever notice the difference..."She said, as she continued.
"Jiāohuàn!..."She declared, her hands and eyes glowing green.
Soon, her fake coin vanished and the real coin appeared in her hand. She knew that the fake coin is now inside the pawn shop, left in it's place and the shop's owner is none the wiser.
Misty looked at the real silver coin and grinned.
"I did it!..."She exclaimed in excitement.
"Yes, yes you did. Good job, Misty. You are improving..."The book said as praised her.
Misty was in a triumphant glee as she felt the power and thrill of success course through her veins.
"This is awesome. I can't believe I even hesitated. This whole thing is gonna be a breeze!..."She said, before placing the coin in her purse, and soon crossed it off the list.
"Okay, on to the next item on the list..."She said, after crossing off "coin" from it.
One hour later
Misty and her spell book continued their "shopping trip".
They managed to find things such as liver of a pig, the pit of a peach, cashew nuts, hair of a dog, whisker from a cat and the egg from a chicken.
Thankfully, she managed to find most of them at a local shop and she had to spend most of her allowance on them and they and to be "pure", but the ingredients from the cat and dog were rather difficult to be honest.
"Man...this was even worse than grocery shopping with mom. Not to mention my feet are killing me and I can still feel that stupid cat's scratch. After today, I'm neither a cat or dog person..."Misty said, wiping off sweat from her forehead, and glancing at her hand that now had a bandage.
"Do not whine, it is unbecoming of a sorceress of your standing..."The book criticized.
Misty got mad.
"Hey, I was the one that nearly got bit by that stray dog and risked needing a rabies shot, as well as got scratched by that cat while you just sat in my bag and did nothing!..."Misty said in anger.
"In case you forgot, I have no hands of my own..."The book said only to see how ticked she was getting.
He realized that antagonizing her is not the best option, and tried to calm her down.
"I apologize for upsetting you, Misty..."The book said apologetically. "But you need to understand that they were risks necessary to get what you truly want. After this is all over, you will see that this will all be worth it and you will get everything that you have been promised..."He said.
Misty sighed.
"I know..."She said, just glad that they managed to get this far.
"What's left on the list?..."She asked, wanting to be done with this.
"Good news, there is one item left on the list..."He said.
"Thank goodness..."Misty said, glad that this is almost over.
"What is it again?..."She asked.
"The petals from a Chinese Orchid..."The book explained, and Misty seemed relieved.
"One flower. Thank goodness. I guess the next stop is the flower shop, huh?..."She said, thinking that this will be easy.
"I would not celebrate just yet...the spell will only work if it's one grown from the soil of the homeland. In other words...it has to be one grown in China..."The book explained.
Misty's eyes widened upon hearing that and groaned.
"Great, I knew that there was some catch. How the heck are we suppose to get to China?!..."She yelled at him.
"I've only got 10 bucks left on me and there is no way Mom is gonna lend me money to fly all the way to China just to get one simple flower! Why does it have to be an orchid anyway?!..."Misty asked.
"The orchid is the most important ingredient of all. It symbolizes love and beauty and is viewed as the symbol of married couples. Without it, the potion will have no effect..."The book explained.
Misty got upset to hear this.
"I can't believe this! I've come so far and now this! Is the whole universe TRYING to mess with me and keep me away from what is meant to be mine! It's not fair. I barely have any cash right now and every second we're not making that stupid potion is another second that stupid blonde princess has her hands all over MY Danny! She doesn't deserve him! I do!..."Misty yelled.
"Calm down, Misty..."The book tried, but she got more upset.
"Shut up, I'm facing a crisis here! So, unless you know a way a spell to teleport directly there, I don't see that happening and yet another plan is going down the drain even as we speak!..."Misty yelled at the book.
"I said calm down, Misty. You are getting worked up..."The book said.
"How can I be calm? We've made it this far and now everything is falling apart and I feel my future with Danny slipping away again!..."She said, getting emotional.
The dark haired girl's eyes flashed a brighter shade of green as her fists shook. In fact, she looked like she was about to punch somebody right now.
The spell book, however, had an idea and knew how to convince Misty to calm down and listen to him again.
"Calm down, Misty. I do believe that I know a way..."The book said.
"You really know a spell to get us to China?..."Misty asked, looking hopeful.
"No, you are not ready nor do you have enough power for such a spell yet..."The book said, before continuing.
"I do know another method of transportation and it will not cost you a single cent..."He said.
"What is it?! Tell me?!..."Misty said, eager to get this spell ready to "free" Danny from Star.
"My child...how familiar are you with...natural portals?..."The book asked, getting his protege's attention.
"Natural portals?..."Misty asked out loud, as her spell book began to explain everything to her about the next step in their plan.
