Chapter 18: Macavity the Mystery Cat

Suddenly, thunder flashed and there was a smashing sound, surprising everyone. "Thunder? Where'd that come from?" Ron asked. "I don't think this is natural thunder." Hermione said. The heroes grouped up with the cats, drawing their weapons. Just then, there was a cackle in the air. "What's that? Who's that?" Peyton asked with a panic. Just then, there was another smashing sound. "Macavity!" Demeter cried. "Macavity? He's here?" Dean asked. Macavity watched from the shadows as his enemies grouped up in fear, his cackle echoing through the air again. "Get ready. I can tell he's close by." Harry said. Everyone stood fast as they prepared for any surprises.

Just then, Macavity appeared behind them, cackling with pride. Everyone gazed upon him in surprise. Just then, Macavity's followers captured Old Deuteronomy in a net. "Hey!" Ron shouted. As he rushed over to help, one of the followers kicked him back to the others. Macavity continued cackling as his followers took Old Deuteronomy away. "I'll be back for you!" He cackled, looking at Demeter before escaping. The cats all scattered, leaving the heroes with only Demeter and Bombalurina. They looked around for any sign of Macavity. But he was long gone. "Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Does anybody want to tell us who Macavity is?" Kaz asked. "I think Demeter and Bombalurina might be about to tell us." Cho said, noticing Demeter and Bombalurina moving with style. "Of course. We'll tell you about Macavity. Sit right down and we'll explain everything." Bombalurina said as she stood atop of Old Deuteronomy's throne.

[Macavity the Mystery Cat]

Demeter: Macavity's a mystery cat, he's called the Hidden Paw

For he's a master criminal who can defy the law

He's the bafflement of Scotland Yard, the Flying Squad's despair

For when they reach the scene of crime, Macavity's not there

The heroes listened closely as Demeter slowly danced. The other queens slowly started to come back out.

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity

He's broken every human law, he breaks the law of gravity

His powers of levitation would make a fakir stare

And when you reach the scene of crime, Macavity's not there

You may seek him in the basement

You may look up in the air

But I tell you once and once again

Macavity's not there

Bombalurina: Macavity's a ginger cat, he's very tall and thin

You would know him if you saw him, his eyes are sunken in

His brow is deeply lined in thought, his head is highly domed

His coat is dusty from neglect, his whiskers are uncombed

He sways his head from side to side with movements like a snake

And when you think he's half asleep, he's always wind awake!

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity

He's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity

You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square

But when a crime's discovered then, Macavity's not there

Demeter: He's outwardly respectable

Bombalurina: I know he cheats at cards

Demeter: And his footprints are not found in any files of Scotland Yard

Bombalurina: And when the larder's looted

Demeter: Or the jewel case is rifled

Bombalurina: Or when the milk is missing

Demeter: Or another peke's been stifled

Bombalurina: Or the greenhouse glass is broken

Demter: Or the trellis past repair

Both: There's the wonder of the thing

Macavity's not there

As the other Queens gathered in a circle, they began to join into the dance.

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity

There never was a cat of such deceitfulness and suavity

He always has an alibi and one or two to spare

What ever time the deed took place, Macavity wasn't there

And they say that all the cats whose wicked deeds are highly known

Demeter: I might mention Mungojerrie

Bombalurina: I might mention Griddlebone

Both: Are nothing more than agents for the cat who all the time

Just controls the operations: the Napoleon of Crime!

As the Queens began to go into the finish, the girls were automatically pulled into the finish.

All: Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity

He's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity

You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square

But when a crime's discovered then

Macavity, Macavity, Macavity, Macavity

When a crime's discovered then

Demeter and Bombalurina: Macavity's not there

"Wow. That was some intense explanations." Neville said as he and the heroes applauded. "But how do you 2 know so much about Macavity anyway?" Luna asked. "He used to be my mate." Demeter revealed. The heroes gasped. "But I hated him. Bombi and I used to be part of his crew back in the day, but we left him and joined with the Jellicles." Demeter explained. "He swore he would have his revenge on us for walking away. Especially when he found out we joined the Jellicle Cats." Bombalurina said. "Macavity had always enjoyed terrorizing the Jellicles. More now than ever after we joined." Demeter said. "But why would he kidnap Old Deuteronomy if he planned revenge on you 2?" Maxxor asked. "Macavity has his reasons. And mark my words, he'll be back." Demeter said.
