The Activities at Camp Runnybottom we're boring. whether it was playing board games or organizing nuts and berries. Things took a turn when the activity changed to swimming. The first activity which actually seemed, fun, in reality it was just swinging on a rope into a small section of the lake, marked off by buoys and almost waist-deep. The campers were wearing full body green suits and swimming caps.
The Guinea Pig Samson, grabbed the rope, jumping of the barely high edge, as he let go, splashing into the lake. his feet touching the bottom as he stood up. the campers seemed to clap at Samson's jump as he huffed, wishing Lumpus would allow the campers to go out in deeper water.
Toodie, the squirrel took her turn grabbing the rope as Edward whispered to her, telling the squirrel to hang on until the last second, as roll her body when letting go, claiming she could make it out to the edge of the swimming area.
"You really think so Edward" The Squirrel asked, telling everyone she was going to make it to the edge, pulling herself up as she swung into the lake, letting go as she rolled her body following the Platypus' instructions as she went out way further than Samson.
The scouts seemed to cheer Edward who came up with the genius Idea. not knowing that further down on the lake edge, Clam was wrapping huge band of elastic around two trees, creating a makeshift slingshot, the rhino held out his thumb, checking for wind resistance before slamming it down. Lazlo Pulled back the elastic band of the handmade slingshot, placing it over Clam, letting go as the rhino flew through air, flying over the Campers.
"Camp Fun" the rhino called out, shooting right over the campers, hitting the lake like a torpedo. the other campers seeing this quickly cheered the Monkey, claiming that Lazlo knew how to have real fun, praising the monkey as they all rushed over to have fun, using the Monkey's Slingshot.
Edward stayed behind, seeing all the campers leave, a second ago he was the coolest kid in Camp Runnybottom, now they were all Flocking to Lazlo as he cursed the Monkey.
Back at the Slingshot Lazlo and Raj were cheering. Raj claiming that he did not even know how to swim but that seemed fun. as the other scouts circled around the slingshot. Lazlo was getting ready to launch the elephant.
"What is This?" a voice called out, pushing two campers aside. as the Monkey turned seeing Patsy, unlike the other scouts she was still wearing her Camp Runnybottom uniform instead of swimwear, pointing out the handmade slingshot, adding that it was not Camp Approved.
"Lazlo told her they were just having fun as the Mongoose crossed her arms, adding that 'dangerous' seemed more like it, not seeing the amusement in being chucked across the lake when Lazlo suggested she try it.
"I Most certainly will not" The Mongoose replied, pointing out all the rules they were violating. listing them off as she counted on her fingers. not even paying attention as Lazlo pulled the elastic band back. placing it over Patsy as she continued "And that is why-"
Patsy was cut off as Lazlo let go, sending the Mongoose soaring through the air as she shot right into the lake. with all the Scouts looking shocked at what Lazlo just did. Slinkman seeing all this wrote on his clipboard.
After Swimming the next activity was Kite Flying. The Scouts where standing on a grassy hill as they were holding wooden spools, their kites fluttering in the air. Edward saw this opportunity to regain some of the popularity he lost during the Swimming incident.
Edward looked over at Nina the giraffe and the Loon Brothers, telling them that if they wanted real fun, to pull on their kite strings claiming it was 'a gas' as Edward did it. Nina did as he instructed, not seeing any amusement in it.
On top of a much higher hill The Jelly trio were building something, something that Lazlo claimed was much better than a kite. standing before them was a handmade glider, Lazlo tapped the wooden boards, held together with glue and leaves. Raj looked at it, asking if that thing would really fly. Lazlo nodded.
He told Raj that he built gliders back in Brazil all the time out of tree branches and leaves as the three grabbed the wooden handle, aiming the glider as the gust of wind caught them sending the glider flaying down the steep high hill.
The shot down the huge hill, Raj letting out a Scream as they were speeding toward the ground. Lazlo waited until final second, right before contact, pulling the flaps as they glided up flying above Camp Runnybottom. Raj opened his eyes when he realized that they weren't crushed and seeing them actually flying. The Elephant looked in disbelief as he started enjoying the glider ride.
Lazlo pointed out the Campers on the small hill, suggesting they show off their glider, diving again as the campers heard the laughing of the Jellybean Trio, turning as the glider zipped past them, making them all ran out of its path.
"What was That?" Dave asked as Nina adjusted her glasses, saying it resembled a hang glider, made out of odds and ends and being piloted by Lazlo, Raj and Clam. Ping Pong added that is seemed fun as Nina Agreed, commenting she could probably build on of those. Edward simply snapped his kite Spool again at the fact he was again upshowed by the new Monkey.
The final activity of the day was Firewood collecting as Edward led Amber the rabbit and the Dung beetles in Firewood collecting, not seeing how Lazlo could possibly upstage him at this, there was no real way to make collecting firewood fun, and Lumpus honestly just took the chore and made it an activity to fill space.
Walking alongside the other Scouts he suggested they try collecting the firewood with their left hands. as it broke up the pace, carrying a bundle of sticks under his arm as Amber rubbed her forehead with her free hand. These Fags are heavy."
As if fate was mocking Edward he was nearly run over as a giant Log that rolled down the hill. Edward stepped to the side, seeing the Jelly Trio rolling it with their feet. The Log continued as the boys we too into their fun they did not even notice Coach Mucus walking bay, lugging a bag of balls until the log ran right over here.
As Much as Edward despised the Monkey, he equally hated Coach Mucus and found her getting run over somewhat hilarious as she got up and tried to run after the log but gave up.
"Now that looked fun, the rolling not the getting crushed" the Rabbit commented, explaining as the Dungs claimed they knew where to find an old log. Edward was left alone again as for a third time, all the campers ditched him and swarmed to whatever the Monkey was doing.
Edward threw his bundle on the ground, cursing Lazlo with every fiber of his being. he did not even notice Slinkman watching the whole ordeal, commenting he was almost there.
"One more demerit and those three are looking at a one-way ticket out of here" Slinkman commented, so into his clipboard that he did not even notice Edward who smiled with delight, hearing this. All he had to do was get Lazlo in trouble and he knew someone who could (and would) help him give the Monkey a little push out of camp.
Edward waiting at the cabins, until he found the scout he was looking for, passing by. It was none other Patsy, walking by wringing out her shirt, still wet from being shot all the way out in the lake. the Mongoose's footsteps made a squishing sound as Edward walked right behind her, putting his hand on her shoulder.
Patsy immediately flipped the Platypus over, slamming him onto the ground, asking what the reason for sneaking up on her was. Edward declined any sneaking as Patsy twisted his arm, the Platypus admitted he needed her help.
"Look Smiles, Monkey Boy HAS to go" Edward commented, telling her everything that has happened while she was in the lake, the glider, the log, everything and all the rules he had violated. Patsy agreed to help Edward get rid of Lazlo as he caused so much trouble in Camp Runnybottom on his first day, plus he sent her flying with a slingshot.
Patsy nodded as the two decided to brainstorm a surefire way to get Lazlo out, and preferably the rest of Cabin 13 but they'd be content with just Lazlo getting the boot.
The Three Jellybeans rolled in on their log stopping at an empty clearing, Raj admitting that the day was fun, which Clam agreed with, getting off the log. He adressed the fact did the three did not 'Play it safe' all day but felt such joy he did not care; For the first time Raj felt that he was Truly Living.
They kept talking as Lazlo instructed them to get back to Cabin 13, he had an art project he wanted to do as the two nodded, heading back to the cabins. The two were noticed by Edward and Patsy who went by unnoticed but decided to put their ears up to Cabin 13 and eavesdrop on the new campers.
"I Don't Know Clam, I Like Lazlo's Fun but I did not see any other campers having the SAME fun. I'm not sure we were following the rules" Raj stated in observation as they both sat on their beds as Clam sat down nodded, stating they were rebels. The two talked until Lazlo entered the cabin, carrying something behind him, revealed to be a totem pole as he propped it up. Raj wondered how he built it so fast.
Raj identified the three figures on the top as Lazlo him and Calm but asked about the bunny and gnome on the Bottom. Lazlo claimed it was interpretive but then admitted he just needed a base.
The five kids were startled by the sound of a loud growl. Lazlo put walked up to the mesh window as Edward and Patsy ducked. Lazlo commented that it sounded like an animal in pain. Lazlo could not stand the thought of an animal in pain or in trouble, it was against his nature to turn away, claiming he had to help.
"No Way Lazlo, you remember what Scoutmaster Lumpus said, No one leaves the Campground" Raj repeated the scoutmaster's words saying the Nature stayed outside. While Lazlo knew leaving would be breaking the rules he ultimately did not care, claiming someone had to do something, storming out of the camp, Raj calling him back, telling him not to leave camp.
The Monkey left as The Platypus and Mongoose poked their heads out from under the cabin, grinning at each other. The opportunity to get Lazlo kicked out was handed to them on a silver platter.
So, in the original show we never got to see Lazlo and Patsy meet and I wanted to avoid the cliche Patsy falling in love at first sight trope, so I decided she hates Lazlo at first which fit with her character until Lazlo shows her how to have fun.
