Hey guys! I am so sorry about the super late update! I still love this story so much but my pup has been taking up a lot of time! I'm still going to post on Tuesday and Friday so no worries. But the chapter will be posted later in the day. Ps, my puppies name is Penelope and she's a German shepherd, sound familiar? I named the dog in this story Penelope because I loved the name and I also happen to love german shepherd! Okay! Enough ranting! Enjoy the story! :)

I pulled into my driveway with a deep sigh and shut my car off. I hoped out, pulling my purse with me and drudged up the driveway to the front door. I unlocked and pushed the front door open, Penelope was already waiting for me. She wagged her tail and whined for head pats, which I happily supplied.

I dropped my purse on the floor and went upstairs to see if Lizzie was home yet. The light in her room was on and when I peeked in she was listening to music with her headphones and doing math homework. She looked up when she noticed me and smiled brightly. She pulled her headphones off and leapt from her bed.

"Where'd ya go?" She questioned, I smiled and threw my arm over her shoulder. "Ah, just gave Bella a ride to La Push. She said her truck wasn't working properly." I explained, I wasn't lying. I did take Bella to La Push because her truck wasn't working. I just left out a rather part of the events that happened in La Push.

"Did you see Sam while you were there?" Lizzie asked as we walked back downstairs, Carli meowing but following behind us. We entered the kitchen, where I pulled the fridge open and was surprised to see all the ingredients and supplies needed for street tacos.

"Uh…Yeah. What's all of this?" I asked, turning back to Lizzie. She smiled sheepishly and shrugged. "I bought all the stuff for street tacos so I could surprise you with them! I know you love them." She explained, I felt a grateful smile spread across my face. "You're too sweet for your own good. I hope you know that." I teased, Lizzie winked at me.

For the rest of the afternoon we talked and then continued to talk while Lizzie made dinner and then also, while we were eating dinner. Lizzie's job had been going very well, her boss told her that she was a hard worker. I fabricated a story about what I did at La Push, of course.

After a little while we migrated to the living room to watch a movie. Watching movies together was a tradition, if one was watching a movie the other was watching a movie. That was just how it was, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Once our movie was over I pulled out a sketch book and started creating costume designs for a mom who came in asking for ten dance costumes for her kid and the dance team. Mrs. Wright had tasked me with coming up with a cute but function design that was spring themed.

Lizzie was on the other end of the couch working on homework. Bella had helped her a lot and Lizzie's grades had become even better than before. I was eternally proud of her, I always would be proud of her. Never in my life would I express disappointment to her because, yes she makes mistakes, but a mistake isn't a failure, it's just a chance. Something that could go right or wrong, it all depended on the decisions that will inevitably be made.

I was pulled from my thought induced haze by a loud knock on the front door. It was nine thirty. Who would knock on someone's door at nine thirty at night?

I motioned for Lizzie to stay and stood from the couch to go answer it. I was reaching for the handle when something in the back of my mind whispered for me to stop. My hand stopped centimeters from the handle.

Stop. Don't open the door.

The voice was my own, my subconscious warning me of something. I pulled my hand away as a shiver went down my spine and fear itched into me through my ribs.

I walked silently back into the living room, Lizzie looked up from her history book. "Who was it?" She asked, I stared at her for a moment. "Lizzie. Go upstairs and lock yourself in your bedroom. Take Penelope with you, don't open the door unless I come get you." I stated, Lizzie's eyes widened. I scared her. Good, she should be scared. We were in danger.

She quietly climbed from the couch, patting her thigh so Penelope would follow. She walked silently up the stairs and to her room, where she closed her door and locked it.

I tiptoed into the kitchen and reached for the top of the fridge, I pulled my pistol out. My shotgun was still packed up, so the pistol would have to do for now. I loaded it and sat silently on the couch.

The air in the room suddenly becomes cold and a light breeze blows my hair a little. I leap from the couch and whirl around, only to see a flash of red hair in the corner of my eye.

The speed. The eerie coldness. The stealth. Sam had told me a creature possessed all those things. That creature was a vampire and there was one in my house.

I pull my phone from my pocket and dial Sam's number, after two rings he picks up.

"Hey, sweetheart! What's up?" He asked, his voice so light and happy. "Sam…" I whispered, I heard his breath catch. "Sammy? What's wrong?" He questioned, panic flooding his voice. "Something's in my house." I whispered, I heard an audible growl from Sam. "I'm going to be right there, Sammy. Don't worry. I'm coming to you." He said, I could hear doors slamming and then Sam was yelling at someone.

"Hurry Sam… I need you. Ple-" And just like the sentence started, it ended. There she was. Her red hair and matching eyes. Her cruel, hungry eyes bore right through me. My body shuddered and I gulped. This was a vampire. A very hungry vampire.

"Sammy?! Sammy?! Hello!" Sam yelled through the phone, but I had dropped it because I was shaking so bad. A cold sweat broke out on my forehead. The redhead took a step forward and I took a step back. I finally raised my gun and pointed at her.

"Don't come any closer." I warned, the vampire laughed. "You really think that gun is going to protect you?" She questioned, I glared at her. "At least I have some sort of protection. I bet all those people you've killed had nothing." I snarled, I had to by time. Sam was already on his way, it would be faster than the usual twenty minute drive because he probably fazed.

The vampire sneered at me, her pearly white teeth gleaming from the overhead lights. She looked like she wanted to eat me alive.

"You are that wolf's mate right?" She demanded, I growled at her. "That's none of your business." I hissed, she smiled wickedly. "So it is true then? You are his, what do those mutts call it, imprint?" She questioned.

I snarled at her, "Get out of my house!" I yelled, she smiled and stalked closer. I tried to back up more but my legs hit the couch. "I love it when my food is scared. They always taste better that way!" She laughed, I felt fear settle into my gut and cloud my brain.

I had to distract her. If she killed me before Sam got here that was fine, as long as he got here in time to save Lizzie. Lizzie had to be protected. If I lived and she survived…I didn't even want to think about it.

"I'm going to kill you." I snarled, the vampire laughed. "I would like to see you try." She sneered, I fired a bullet off. She dodged but it nicked the side of her, creating a horrible glass screaming sound.

She zoomed to the other side of the room and zoomed right up to me. I jumped back as she appeared in front of me, I cursed as I toppled over the couch. I lunged over the back of the couch, trying to get away from the blood sucking demon.

But she caught my ankle in a crushing grasp, I heard the bones in my ankle break and a scream ripped from my throat as my poor ankle was shattered. My ankle throbbed in agony, my eyes watered as I bit back another cry of pain as she wrenched me back by my injured foot.

I twisted in her grasp and kicked her square in the face. She seemed stunned that I had the gale to actually kick her but she didn't stop pulling me forward. She yanked me to my feet and slammed me into the closet wall, jarring my head and making me see spots.

"You are going to taste devine." She purred in my ear, I turned my head in disgust as she sniffed my neck. I cringed away as I felt her sharp teeth graze my shoulder and neck junction.

Before I knew it she had latched on and was literally sucking the blood out of me. I screamed, it was incredibly painful. It was like getting your blood drawn but with two six inch thick needles. She drank greedily, my eyes were starting to droop and my vision darkened. My head felt so light, as if I was a cloud floating in the sky.

I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness, I almost welcomed it if not for Lizzie in the upstairs bedroom. What was I doing? I couldn't leave Lizzie alone in this world. She was far too kind for this cruel world. I could not leave her here alone.

I fought against the darkness and I came back to myself. I kicked the vampire right in the stomach, she hadn't been expecting me to hit her, so she stumbled back and slammed into the couch. I brought my gun up again and shot her right between the eyes. I continued to shoot her until the gun clicked and I was out of bullets, she screamed in pain. I didn't know they could feel pain. I didn't care. I hoped-prayed that she would suffer.

I was standing only on one foot, unable to put any weight on my other. My neck throbbed in horrible stinging waves, while blood dripped down and pooled in my collarbone before it overflowed and disappeared into my shirt.

I stood my ground, anger evident in my stance. How dare she try and take me away from my sister?! How dare she!

I hopped as fast as I could to the kitchen but she caught up to me and pulled my arm behind my back, it let out a sickening pop as pain flooded down my arm. I tried to pull away but it only succeeded in increasing the pain ten-fold.

She shoved me to the floor, my head cracking painfully against the hardwood. My vision swam and I choked back vomit from the pain. I struggled the best I could but she pinned me with her inhuman strength and once again latched onto my neck. It was still as painful as the first time and I couldn't keep my agony contained to just my mind.

I fought and I fought and I fought. But I was dying. Slowly but surely, my vision narrowed down to a small tunnel. All I could see anymore was Lizzie and Sam's smiling faces. My father's once smiling face and my sweet, sweet mother and her beautiful eyes and sparkling smile. She was so beautiful, like an angel here to take me away.

I was about to finally lose consciousness when the sound of splintering, booming, and cracking wood filled the air. I didn't even have the energy to look up as the vampire was ripped from top of me.

I just layed there, on my kitchen floor, a puddle of blood slowly forming around me. I was so cold. Snarling growling and screaming, that was all I could hear. Then all went quiet. Not a sound was made, not a scream, not a snarl, complete silence.

I only became vaguely aware of footsteps hastily approaching. I felt arms wrap around me and flip me over but my eyes were too unfocused to make out the person in holding me. But I would know him just by his scent. Sam. He saved me.

"Sam…" I whispered hoarsely, Sam drew in a panicked breath. "Sammy. Sammy. Sammy. You're going to be okay. You'll be okay. You're going to be fine." He said those things over and over again, to the point where I might actually consider he was right.

He pulled his phone out of his pocket and quickly dialed a number. I heard the person pick up on the other end.

"Hello? Nine one one, what's your emergency?"

"An animal just attacked my girlfriend in her home, she's bleeding all over the place! Send an ambulance please!" Sam cried, his voice shaking. I had never heard him so scared before. I didn't understand why he was so upset. Why was I special? I wasn't. I never would be. I was fine with that.

"Try talking to her, make sure she stays awake."

"Sammy, hey Sammy. Hey sweetheart. How about we go see a movie sometime, hm? How does that sound?" He asked, I smiled. I loved watching movies with Sam! "Yeah…t-that sounds wond-derful." I agreed, my voice cracked. My whole body ached, my skull, my arm, my leg.

I reached over, slowly, and grabbed Sam's hand loosely.

"Sam. Sam, I love you. So so much. D-Don't you ever for-get that." I croaked, Sam shook his head. "You can tell me everyday. They're coming to patch you up." His voice faded out for a second and I came back to a terrified Sam shaking me. "Oh, Sammy. Thank god." He cried, Sam buried his face in my hair and let out a shaky breath.

"Sam?"

"Yes, honey?"

"She-She didn't hurt you did she?" I asked, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if he was hurt. "No. No sweetheart. She didn't hurt me but she hurt you. She got away but…I'm going to hunt her down and kill her." Sam stated, gently brushing hair out of my face.

I didn't hear when the ambulance arrived or when they hauled me onto a stretcher. When they started poking me with needles I let my mind finally go to that peaceful darkness that my mothers face awaited in.

I woke up to a pounding head and screaming ankle. I groaned and tried to shield my eyes from the overly bright lights but my arm would not move. When I looked down it was wrapped in a thick cast.

I looked around, I was in a hospital. Everything that happened came flooding back instantly, the vampire breaking my ankle, drinking my blood, injuring my shoulder, bashing my head.

I looked over to my right and saw Sam, his hand entangled in my limp one, his head resting on the side of my bed. To my left Lizzie laid the same way except and had her hand on my thigh.

"Sam?" I whispered, almost instantly his eyes snapped open and he sat up. "Sammy! You're awake. Oh thank god." He cried, he stood and wrapped his arms around my neck, very carefully so as to not jar me.

Lizzie stirred and looked up to find Sam hugging me, her eyes lit up and she followed Sam's example. "Sammy! Oh my god! You're awake!" She cried, sobs escaping her.

"How long was I asleep for?" I asked with a frown. "Eight days." Sam whispered, I sucked in a breath. "What about my job?" I questioned, Lizze smiled and kissed me on the forehead. "I told Mrs. Wright what happened and she said you can have as much time off as you need. And to only come back when you're feeling completely ready." Lizzie explained. I sighed in relief.

The door to the room opened and a nurse stepped in. She scowled at Sam and Lizzie. "I told you two to come get me if she woke up!" The nurse exclaimed, reprimanding the two, who bowed their heads.

"Sorry, Ma'am." Lizzie apologized, the nurse shook her head and hid a small smile.

"No worries. Hey Samantha, I'm nurse Kelly." She said, introducing herself. I smiled, "Hi, I hope these two didn't give you too hard of a time." I teased, Sam and Lizzie both looked away. "Well, other than calling relentlessly during no visitor hours and asking when you were going to wake up, no, they were not that hard of a time." She giggled, I giggled with her as she checked my blood pressure and heart. "Well, everything looks good. Let me go get the doctor to get a more precise test." She called as she walked to the door and opened it.

"Sam, I am soooo hungry." I grumbled, Lizzie laughed but I glared at her. "What's so funny?" I questioned, one eyebrow hoisted up. Lizzie shook her head, "Nothing…it's just, you're really thinking about food right now?" She asked, I smiled. "Yes, yes I am. I was about to beg Sam to go get us some real food. Not the gross stuff from the hospital. But I mean since you're making fun of me I guess you don't get any."

"What?! That's not fair!"

"Shouldn't have laughed."

"Sammmmmmy!"

"Fine, but you have to beg Sam to go get the food."
