Chapter Twelve:
Breaking Into the Library of Congress
It was a very well-known fact the Constitution was held in the Library of Congress. Mario and Bowser had their work cut out for them.
On the night they put their plan into action, Luigi drove near the Library in his flower store truck, unaware that his brother and their friendly nemesis were riding in the back. The green Italian drove up to the checkpoint, where Swagmaster was serving as one of the guards, reminding Luigi that they had friends serving in the military.
"What's your business?" The guard asked.
"I'm just dropping off some flowers." Luigi replied.
Swag studied the plumber, nearly making Luigi nervous. The guards began inspecting the truck, with Mario and Bowser working to stay invisible; the plan could not go awry. Luigi sat patiently at the wheel, letting the security do its job until Swag approached him again.
"All right, this doesn't look too suspicious." He said, "Proceed."
Luigi hopped out of the truck and went around to the back. He opened the container, ready to bring out the flowers. And just then, Mario and Bowser burst out, heading right for the Library of Congress without anybody noticing. However, they knocked over some flowers, much to Luigi's shock.
"Hey, what's-a the big idea?!" Luigi yelled.
"Looks like someone just did us dirty, Luigi." One of the guards remarked, "You're gonna have to clean the mess up... and you may have just smuggled someone trying not to be seen."
Bowser and Mario passed the guards, getting close to the Library of Congress, and made slow movements. Plus, the place was closed for tonight, but there was a way inside the building. There was always a way to get inside.
Mario moved to the side of the building and climbed up a ladder, with Bowser following suit. Given how heavy the Koopa was, the ladder creaked and shook. Luckily, the invisibility bands they were wearing ensured that neither of them were spotted by passing guards. And their tools were so effective that not even the security cameras could spot them.
They made it to the top and opened the door, leading into one of the backrooms of the Library. Mario and Bowser quickly got inside, not making a sound, and closed the door behind them.
So far, so good. Now to find the Constitution and get out of there without being caught.
Mario snuck through the room to the next door, with Bowser following suit. They heard voices, guards talking, and quietly shushed each other. Not a sound, or they were in trouble. Bowser and Mario tip-toed towards the door and quietly turned the knob, hearing guards passing by. They walked through the door, entering the upper wing of the Library.
Both partners crept toward the shelves, containing every document in history. The Constitution was on one of those shelves, on display. It had to be the real one, but Mario would not be talking with the president about making Mar10 Day a real holiday.
Oh, not when there were other methods in a world like this.
He and Bowser walked, looking at everything on display close by. And then, they found the shelf where the item in question was. Mario smirked and made a move for it. Bowser kept an eye out for any guards, and there were active security cameras close by.
Mario noticed the Constitution was behind glass, nothing he couldn't handle. He pulled out a glass-cutter and put a circle in the casing. The cut glass fell into Mario's hands, and he snatched the Constitution. Thanks to excellent sneaking skills, the fat Italian and the Koopa King had gotten what they came for with little trouble.
"All right!" Bowser grinned.
"The One-Piece!" Mario proclaimed with glee, "The One-Piece is real!"
And now, with the greatest document in history in hand, Mario and Bowser could make their wish a reality... by writing it down on the Constitution with a magic pen. Mar10 Day would become an official event, and nothing would change it.
But first, they had to get out of there without being caught; the security cameras had just turned in their direction, spotting the Constitution off its shelf and in the hands of Mario...
