By the time they got back to the house, Rafael was all business again. Jumping out of the car, they walked into his office and waited for the others to join them. Olivia took a seat on the couch, grabbing her discarded book from the table. She noticed the pile of books on the side table by the couch. Ever since she began hanging out in his office with him, she would bring a book with her. Barba would sit at his desk either making calls or working on something, while she relaxed reading. If she was too engrossed in the book, Rafael would have lunch or dinner brought to them. On the many occasions she did fall asleep on his couch, she would wake up in her bed. Something he always denied having any involvement with.
"Liv." Barba frowned at not getting a response. "Liv?" Walking over to the couch, standing by her head, he huffed at finding her with headphones in and closed eyes. She normally did this when he was on the phone. Bracing the armrest on the couch, he hovered over her and pulled her into a kiss. The small gasp was all he needed to take full advantage of the kiss. He learned very quickly just how much he craved her taste. It was a feeling-desire that will never be fully satisfied. Lowering a hand down to her throat, he held her still.
Olivia tensed slightly at feeling his hand wrap around her throat. Grabbing his wrist she intended to pull it away. But his thumb began caressing the side of her neck in lazy circles. He added no pressure to his hold, just laid it there. Instead, he was solely focused on the kiss, almost unaware of what he had done. Letting go of his wrist, she raised her to the back of his neck and pulled him down even closer. Her other hand trailed over his shoulder and back, his shoulder blades announcing just how much restraint he was holding back. Running her nails up and down his covered back, she grinned into the kiss at the shiver he gave.
Barba pulled away from their kiss at the burning feeling in his lungs. He was surprised to feel Olivia's lips on his neck. Lifting his head just enough to give her full access, he focused on something else. Removing his hand from her throat, he trailed a finger across her collar bone and down her cleavage. Feeling a nibble on his neck, he slid his hand into her shirt with a growl. He knew what she was doing, but he wasn't about to make it easy for her. Barba was a man that didn't give control easily in life and that included matters in the bedroom. Letting her continue her wonderful assault on his neck, he moved a hand over to her breast. As he marveled at her soft skin, she drew in a sharp breath of arousal. Good. He wanted her to start feeding into the lust he was feeling. He kneaded her breasts, lightly rubbing his palms across her hardening nipples and eliciting a whimper of pleasure.
"Rafael-shit!" The door was closed before they could look up to see who it was.
Olivia let out a shaky breath as the high from the moment started to wear down. Barba laid his head on her shoulder, his hand still under her shirt. "We should have probably locked the door."
Barba snorted. "They should learn how to knock." Pulling his hand out from within her shirt, he grabbed her chin and tilted her head back. Leaning down he paused for a moment searching her eyes.
She gasped softly at the slow kiss he gave her. It wasn't demanding. It wasn't possessive or controlling. In fact, she was able to control the pace and direction. He was giving her full control. "They are waiting for us."
"Let them wait." As if they heard him a knock came after. "Come in!"
Javier walked in and to her shock, both Elliot and Amanda followed. "Sorry Hermano, I didn't realize you and dreamer were ge-"
"Forget it." Barba grumbled, walking over to his desk. "What was the urgency? And why are you two here?"
"The merchandise was seized." Javier blurted out.
Barba was about to take a seat when the words he heard froze him. "What merchandise?"
"The one coming in from the Metas." Javier replied. "The fish scale."
Olivia refrained from reacting to the news. She knew about the shipment coming in today since for about a week. She had made sure to tell Craigen about it, giving them the upper hand to stop it. Looking up at her teammates, they nodded. So it was her team. That should put a dent in Barba's business.
"How much?" Barba glanced up at his brother to see the shake of his head. "Fuck!" Grabbing whatever was closest to him, he threw it at the window. The glass shattered with a loud thunderous bang. "Who?!"
"Chapel and his monkeys." Javier was oddly calm compared to Barba. But deep down he was craving for blood. Just waiting on his brother's word. "And that team from NYPD."
"Dad!" Damon wheeled into the room, snatched the remote, and flipped on the news. "Look."
The reporter was currently covering a live on the seized drug. The officials were tossing the drug into a fire. Olivia frowned at the show they were making this out to be. Why the hell would Craigen agree to this? Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Elliot just as confused as she was.
Barba's phone went off, pulling everyone's attention to him. He took a deep breath at seeing the name. "Yeah."
Olivia watched as his entire body stiffed. His hand clenched into a fist. Something was very wrong.
"I will get the money." Barba felt as if someone had taken a bat to his chest. "Don't hurt my boy, I will get the money. I just need time."
'Boy?' Olivia jumped to her feet and stood across from her. Damon was still in the room, so that can only mean… "Jack."
"This is not how we do business!" Barba quickly composed himself before he lost all temper. He wasn't about to be the one to get his son killed. "How much time do I have?"
Olivia waited as he lowered the phone and stared at her with wide eyes. "Rafael, what is it?" Not getting a response, she walked around the table to his side. Placing a hand on his shoulder, she forced him to look at her with the other. "Rafa, where is Jack?"
"Meta's have him." He hadn't wanted to believe it, but saying the words out loud made it sink in. They took his boy. "They have him."
"Why?" Rollins asked. "What for?"
"That drug the GTF and NYPD seized was not mine." Barba answered automatically. "It was the Meta's. The last time we spoke we made a deal. They provided the drug and we distributed it. With the money we made out, it would have been more than enough to get the hell out of this."
"Give us a moment." Waiting for Javier to usher the others out, she kept her focus on Rafael.
No matter how hard she tried to justify what she did, it was eating her alive. She was doing her job, yes, but because of it, Jack was in danger. This wasn't some low-life kidnapping some other low-life. This was a sadistic murderers gang, holding the life of an innocent man. Who's father will avenge should anything happen to him. She was the reason Jack was suffering for something he wasn't even involved with. The younger man had a pregnant fiancé waiting for him at home. 'What the fuck have I done.' Olivia wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug. 'I'm sorry Rafael.' Barba wrapped his arms around her waist, burying his face into the crook of her neck. "We will get him back."
"I don't have 50 mil laying around Liv." Barba whispered.
"Then we come up with another plan." She whispered back. "But we will get Jack back." She felt sick to herself. Comforting the man whose son she had maybe just killed. "I will help in any way I can."
"Just-just stay by my side." He refused to look at her. Refused to let her see him so weak and pathetic. "Not to mention, they still don't know about their dead boys or that we know their plans for after the sell."
Olivia was sure her next idea was going to put her in the hot seat with her team. "They didn't burn the fish scale."
Barba frowned. "What?"
"I know how these things work." Olivia muttered. "That was just for show. They wouldn't burn the merchandise, not if they could sell it on the side for department money." She saw the doubt in his eyes. "Ask Ryan, he's a cop after all."
"Ryan!" Javier called for the younger man.
"Yeah?"
"Find out if they burned the fish scale." Javier ordered.
Olivia noticed the hesitation in his movements. Almost as if he wasn't too happy in Barba knowing the truth. "They just wanted to make sure you wouldn't go after it." Craigen was going to kill her.
Ryan got off the phone, giving them a stiff nod. "It's still there. It will be transferred today at 4 pm."
Barba glanced between Olivia and Ryan, finally settling on Olivia. "You want to earn your spot and the respect of the men?" Olivia nodded. "Get it back."
"I'm going to need a 6 men team." Olivia jumped into the shoes of the commanding officer. "Where is the armory?"
Barba tossed her a set of keys. "Take Ryan with you."
"Javier." Olivia pulled the brother to the side. "Take "Take Amanda and her partner to another room. I don't want them to know what is happening." Seeing the confused look, she elaborated. "I don't need them thinking they can take advantage of the situation. I vouched for them, not looking for any more problems at the moment."
"You got it, dreamer."
Barba leaned against his desk, his eyes glued on the news. One moment he was watching more drugs being tossed into the incinerator, and the next he had Olivia's face in front of him. "What?"
"I said, everything will turn out fine."
Reached out he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into him. Giving her a quick kiss, Barba let out a deep breath. "Let's go."
"What?" She leaned back to catch his eyes. "No, you stay here."
"I'm not about to let you go on your own." He growled.
"Rafael, the guys and I are not known to the outside world. They won't be expecting us to take the drugs back." She argued. "You, on the other hand, I guarantee they will be waiting for. Let me do this my way."
"You get into any issues, call me." He ordered. "I'll have men standing by."
"There won't be any issues." She was attempting to assure herself more than him. What she was about to pull was not only reckless, but a sure blood bath ready to happen. She needed not only to keep herself safe, but keep any officers from dying in the raid. Shouldn't be too hard.
Right?
