A/N:

Only one chapter today? That's only about 700 words? I'm slacking, I know :P

Truth be told, I just been busy. This whole project came from me trying to distract myself from responsibilities that are catching up quick.

Speaking of, I'm curious: What do my readers think of my chapter lengths? Should I wait and write longer chapters, or do y'all prefer short chapters that update every few days?

Personally, I prefer keeping them short. It makes me feel accomplished getting them out so fast, and it makes the turnarounds quicker. If that makes sense. I just make each scene a chapter.

Little note, I didn't make a typo during the flashback. It's what Hunter heard :P

"Dear Hunter Wittebane.

I will do my best to keep this letter brief.

I won't waste your time with meaningless platitudes about how 'Sorry I am for what I've done,' Because my apology would be, frankly, inauthentic.

I can't remember anything before this morning. In fact, I had to be told my own name.

But from what I've been able to gather. I committed a lot of horrid acts. By the way you reacted, I presume you saw each misdeed firsthand.

Amity told me that losing my memory might have been a blessing in disguise. At the time, I didn't understand initially, but I think losing my memory allowed me to awaken with an open mind.

My one wish is to start with you anew. Prove that I am not the person you once knew, and that I am worthy of your trust.

You are my family. Flesh and blood, the only I have.

With love,

Philip Wittebane."

It felt like a bad dream.

As Hunter stared at the letter from his uncle, a hundred different horrible memories burnt like acid in his throat.

"Out of all the Grimwalkers, you looked the most like him."

"Hunter, why are you hurting me? I only wanted to help you!"

"That's right. You wouldn't want me harming your precious palisman, would you? Oh, but then again, I don't care what you want. Goodbye, Evil one."

His grip on the paper tightened, as he couldn't contain himself anymore. What started as a few tears turned into soft sobs, that quickly snowballed into full-blown tears.

He felt small. He felt weak. He felt like there was nothing he could do. Like his peaceful days had come to an end. At best, he'd spend the rest of his life as a soldier, at worst he'd end up…Like the rest of his family.

With ears like a hawk, his girlfriend Willow ran into the room. Scared half to death, asking "Hunter? Are you okay?"

He tried his hardest to be strong. His hardest to grit his teeth and bottle his emotions…But at this point, the toothpaste was not going back in the tube. After five years of learning to be emotionally open and honest, he couldn't pretend anymore.

She put her hand on his shoulder, quickly noticing the letter in his hands. The hand-writing was barely legible to her, but on close inspection, she was able to make out the signature at the bottom.

"With love,

Phillip Wittebane."

"Oh…" She said, feeling her heart drop into her stomach. "Is Belos…back?"

Hunter nodded.

"Look…Sunflower, I don't…I don't know what's going on, or how he returned." While she hadn't seen his death firsthand, she was assured that he was like…Dead dead. But, that old British bastard absolutely refused to stay down. "I won't let him hurt you. I mean, We beat him…twice! Third times the charm, eh?"

Hunter put the letter down, and stood up. After a moment of the words choking his throat, he finally managed to spit up: "Amity's forgiven him…."

Willow stepped back, she had to pick her words extremely carefully. Because her first reaction was 'Like hell she did!' But after a moment of thinking, she finally came up with something. "Well, she doesn't know what he did to you. Well…She knows, but…Oh, let me try again…"

"I can't speak for Amity, but I know she hasn't had the experiences you've had. Though, I doubt she has truly forgiven him…but she just wants him to think she does. She knows how dangerous he can be."

With this, Willow stepped forward and pulled her boyfriend into a hug. Planting a biggol smooch, right on his lips. This was finally enough to calm him down, if even a bit, and make the tears stop flowing.

"Willow, I love you…But, I think I need to be alone for a little while." He said, after a minute, breaking up their embrace.

"I understand. I'll be right here if you need me, okay?" She took a deep breath, as much as she wanted to be there for him, he needed his space.

Hunter took a deep breath, and began pacing. He needed something that would allow him to be alone with his thoughts, but would also keep him anchored to the world.

His answer came when he saw a scrap of Palistrom wood sitting on his workbench.
