I do not own Harry Potter, the Wizarding World, or any canon characters.

Note: An extra update today. My other fic is getting absolutely rinsed and it's getting to the point that I regret writing it. I could use some positive energy so wanted to get back to my nearest and dearest. Thank you all for reading. Hope you all are well and having a nice day.

Extended Family

Chapter 14 – Unconventional Naming

Set before Dahlia was born or even named.

"Do you need anything else?" Harry asked worriedly.

"Breathe Rabbit," Angelina said with a wide smile. "We're fine, and if we need anything we'll call."

"Honestly, you truly are a mama bird now," Alicia grinned.

Harry laughed. "Three of the most important women in my life are here and two have their babies with them and one being pregnant, how did you think I would act?"

The former Chasers cooed. "What have you done to him to keep him so considerate?" Alicia asked Katie.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" Katie asked, smug.

"I don't," Angelina said. "It's really weird for me to think of Harry doing anything like that."

"I hate to tell you this," Katie said solemnly, taking Angelina's hand in hers, "but there's a chance that Harry's had sex before."

"Surely not!" Alicia gasped.

"Reasonably sure," Katie said. She patted her abdomen. "There might be proof."

"Ew ew ew," Angelina said, snatching her hand back. "You're gross." She glared at Harry. "You're gross!"

"Guilty," he laughed. He gently settled the dual sling across his chest, checking on the two precious bundles. The first was a chubby-cheeked little girl with short brown curls, cream-hued skin, and hazel eyes. The second was an equally chubby girl with brownish-red hair, light brown skin, and brown eyes. "Now I'll take my goddaughters out on a walk. Send me a message if you need anything." He walked off slowly, humming softly.

"He's really taken to being a father," Alicia said proudly.

"Seriously." Angelina looked teary. "Hailey isn't that good for my parents or George's. She fusses when it's not us or Rabbit holding her."

"I'm so lucky," Katie said happily. She shifted in her seat a little. "Personally, I'm freaking out a little but seeing Harry that good with your daughters makes me feel super at ease otherwise."

"He's really taking advantage of the practice." Alicia snickered. "I never saw Oliver pick up a book willingly that wasn't about Quidditch until I got pregnant. For the first few weeks he was constantly reading a parenting book before he did anything."

Angelina laughed loudly for a few moments. "Did you ever imagine us doing this one day? When we were at school?"

"What, imagine us sitting around with babies and talking about our spouses and things?" Katie shook her head while she laughed. "Not at all! I thought we'd do this at a bar or something after playing Quidditch or something else."

"There are worse things to be talking about." Alicia made a face. "We could be talking about politics and other society drivel."

"That's true." Angelina smiled at Katie. "How are you holding up?"

"Pretty good honestly. I can still do my job right now which is nice. I still get decent sleep. My magic is still a little wonky. Sometimes my spells are overpowered or I have to pump more energy into it." She grinned and patted her front softly. "It's funny, the other day I was craving apple juice and I never really liked that before. Mum says it's probably the baby trying to influence me."

"Oh Hadley did that to me often. I normally despise pickles but I couldn't get enough. Still want some now."

"Hailey was stealing my rabbits before she was born," Angelina laughed. "Seriously! They would get stuck to my belly and she tries to pull them into her crib now."

"And now she stole your other Rabbit," Katie giggled.

"Well she's going to have to learn to share," Angelina sniffed.

"Don't you mean you will have to share?" Alicia teased.

"No! I'm the mother dangit!"

They howled in laughter.

"So! Can we call our goddaughter something now aside from the baby?" Alicia asked.

"Not yet, haven't really decided a name." Katie summoned a small notebook from the kitchen. "We're definitely going to do the middle name as the first name of their parent thing we both have. So she'll have Kaitlyn as her middle name."

"Oh that's pretty," Angelina said. "Not Katherine though?"

"We decided to change it up a little. Kaitlyn is close enough and if we have another daughter we can still use Katherine or something else."

Alicia was paging through the little notebook. "'Don't you dare re-use Nympha-anything'," she read. "I see Tonks made her opinion known."

Katie laughed. "Yeah she did. Though she did get super emotional when Harry suggested Dorelus as an homage to Dora for a boy eventually."

"Oh that is a lovely name," Alicia sighed. "I like that a lot actually."

"Me too, it's definitely a possibility. Lyla doesn't really care but she says we need to be able to make a fun nickname from the name though. Mum and Dad don't care that much either, said they'll love her no matter what."

"Aurora, Ariel, Belle, and Jasmine." Angelina nodded when she read those names. "Those are pretty. First two are a bit odd. Third one is a bit of a play on your old family name."

"Hermione apparently went on a kick with Disney Princess names," Katie said. "Those movies are really pretty though."

"Belle doesn't really lend to a fun nickname. Pity. Belle Potter is rather fun," Alicia mused.

"Who wrote down a bunch of constellation names?" Angelina asked.

Katie snorted. "Sirius. It was a Black family tradition for a while."

"Oh that makes sense. Lyra is pretty. As is Cassiopeia."

"I've always been partial to Greek or Roman Goddess names," Alicia said. "Something regal and inspirational."

"Why didn't you name Hadley after one?" Angelina asked.

"I assume my children will inherit my wits and ego and didn't want to give them delusions of grandeur," Alicia said while the other two laughed. "Or give them a complex. Imagine being named something so grand and never living the part. Or worse. Demanding to be treated like your namesake."

"Yeah but imagine like…Athena Wood, the next Quidditch superstar," Angelina said.

"Don't even," Alicia said with an irritable poke. "Oliver said the same thing. Damn near drooled when he did."

"Athena Potter does have a nice ring to it. So does Artemis Potter."

"I can't do that. I can't scold a Goddess," Katie laughed. "Artemis Kathryn Potter! Clean your room or no pudding!"

"I have to ask Aunt Andi how her parents did that," Angelina laughed. "Did you take the last piece of cake Andromeda?! Can't imagine something like that ever happening."

"What does Harry say?" Alicia asked.

"He's a bit torn. He wants to honor people with the name but there's so many people that're important to him so he doesn't know what wants to do. I asked him if he wanted to name her Lily for his mum but he was actually really sweet about it. Saying while he thinks his mum would be proud, he would want his daughter to be her own person and not have to live up to a memory. He didn't want to treat her like a replacement."

"That is very sweet," Alicia sighed.

"He did say he likes flower names for girls and I agree." Katie summoned a new book from the kitchen. "So we've been looking here and there."

"Gotta pick a good name and a pretty flower," Angelina said. "Can't just name her Daisy, can you?"

"You know what though, Marguerite is French for Daisy and that's a very pretty name," Alicia said.

"That's true," Angelina replied. "Maggie for short."

"Pretty sure Fleur and Colette and Aimee would kill you if you nicknamed Marguerite 'Maggie'," Katie snickered.

"I can take them," Angelina sniffed. "Oooh, Amaryllis is super pretty."

"Say, how did you two come up with Hailey and Hadley?" Katie asked. "I never thought to ask before. You just told us and we thought they were lovely."

"Oh well, this is going to be a bit silly, but I wanted to name her after Harry," Angelina confessed. "And Harriet just didn't feel right, like, that name is such a stuffy old name. I was going to name her Harley but that's apparently a kind of loud Muggle motorbike thing according to George's dad so didn't want that either."

"You named her after Harry?" Katie asked with growing tears.

"Yeah. I guess I wanted to make sure Harry always had a place in lots of families so he won't ever feel alone," Angelina said with blushing cheeks.

"Damn, and here I thought I was being clever," Alicia said with a smile. "I did the same. Hadley works for both boys and girls and I liked the sound of it."

Katie dabbed at her tears. "That's honestly the sweetest thing."

Angelina smiled softly. "If it was a boy, we were going to do Harris or something like that."

"Well, Harry won't ever feel alone ever," Katie said happily. "Two goddaughters, especially ones named after him? Lucky boy."

"I'd say we're the lucky ones," Alicia said. "Knowing how devoted Harry is really takes a load off my mind. Well, considering my…situation."

Angelina hugged her. "Hey, I have two families looking after mine but knowing Harry is there makes me feel loads better."

"Three more families," Katie said, hugging them both. "Harry and me, the Bells, and the Blacks. You two have nothing to worry about."

Alicia smiled through her sniffles. "Seriously. We're lucky."

Harry came back, bouncing the babies in his arms. "Is everything okay?" he asked when he saw them.

"Just being a bit emotional," Alicia said, smiling when she saw Hadley cooing and wriggling. "Such a happy girl, aren't you?" She reached out to pick her up. "Oh and now you fuss a bit." She shook her head. "Turning my daughter against me, Harry?"

"Not yet. I'll wait until she's older and I can spoil her with things," Harry laughed. He passed Hailey to Katie.

"Aww, you're a little fussy too," Katie said softly to the baby girl. "They're so attached to you."

"They're good babies," Harry said fondly. "Was happy to be carried as I walked around the house."

"Really? She wriggles a lot for me." Angelina poked her daughter playfully. "You'll behave for your godfather but not your mother? For shame!"

"Hadley bites her father a lot," Alicia laughed. "When he's being loud. I love it."

"Poor Captain," Harry chuckled.

"Did you know these two are named after you?" Katie asked him.

"Really?!" Harry teared up when Angelina and Alicia nodded. "I don't know what to say… You poor girls." He picked them up and gently hugged them while the women shrieked with laughter. "You poor sweet things have been cursed."

"As long as your luck in getting into incredible situations doesn't get passed along too," Alicia said severely.

"I can't control that. I can't even control that for myself!" He leaned against Angelina and Alicia in turn, kissing them on the cheeks. "No seriously though, that means so much to me. I can't even begin to say anything."

Angelina kissed him back. "Just be happy. I know I am."

"Same," Alicia said warmly.

He handed each baby back to her respective mother and they eventually yawned and fell asleep, being put into their carriers alongside. "Have you given any thought to a name?" Alicia asked him.

He hummed. "I think I do. It's a bit fanciful though so been ruminating on it."

"Well share with the class then," Alicia said.

"Don't you dare name her after Hedwig," Angelina said severely.

Harry laughed. "There's already a Hedwig Potter. Wouldn't be fair to either of them. No my idea was Dahlia. It means elegance and love and…" He picked up the book of flowers and flipped through it. "There's so many different kinds but this one made me stop and really look."

"Oh that's beautiful," Katie said softly. "It looks like a little star."

"Right? I thought it would be a nice way to honor MumAndi and Sirius too."

Alicia smiled. "That is fanciful but suiting. Dahlia Kaitlyn Potter."

"I really like it," Angelina said.

"We could call her Dally," Katie said softly.

"Oh that's an adorable nickname," Alicia cooed.

"What do you think?" Katie asked her abdomen. "Do you want to be called Dahlia?" She gasped. "I swear she just kicked."

"Good kick or bad kick?" Harry put his hand on Katie's belly. "Are you a little Dahlia in there?" His eyes went wide and his smile split his lips. "She did kick!"

"Oh let's test this properly." Alicia leaned forward. "Let's read some other flower names and see if she reacts." They read more names and the baby within barely stirred or somehow made halfhearted movements. Only one other name made her react and Katie grunted from the impact.

"Ouch! Okay yeah no. I think she hated that last one," she gasped. "Don't worry little one, you won't be Petunia."

"Harry? What's wrong?" Angelina asked, seeing the look on his face.

Harry shook his head. "Nothing, it's nothing." He thought about his soon to be daughter and the future she meant washed his past away. He looked at Katie. "So what do you think?"

She smiled lovingly. "I think we have a name."

Harry kissed her stomach. "Hello Dahlia. We can't wait for you to join us."

Katie laughed. "Oof! She's going crazy in there! I think she likes it."

"Our goddaughter has a name!" Alicia and Angelina shouted. They too rested their hands on Katie's front and squealed with joy when Dahlia kicked when they said her name.

"She's feisty!" Angelina admired. "You got a Beater in there maybe."

"Oh speaking of, thank goodness she has a name." Alicia rolled her eyes. "Oliver has been referring to her as mini-Seeker."

"And not mini-Chaser?!" Katie said indignantly. "He's known me for longer!"

"Better than what the twins called her," Angelina laughed. "They called her shrimpette."

"Shrimpette?!" Harry and Katie said.

"Yup. 'Cause you were shrimpy," Angelina said, ruffling his hair. "Also the first time they were talking about her it was lunch time and I suspect they were hungry."

"Yeah that sounds like them," Harry said ruefully.

"I can't wait to tell the families tonight," Katie said happily.

Samantha, Thomas, and Lyla arrived first that night for dinner. At least a few times a week, Katie and Harry would eat or visit with both families individually or all together, usually going to Grimmauld or their home outside of London. When Katie became pregnant, the families went to their home typically.

"Mum! We decided on a name!" Katie said excitedly.

"Ooh! Yes, do tell. Tell me my granddaughter's name," Samantha said eagerly.

Katie took her hands and put them on her front. "Her name is Dahlia Kaitlyn Potter."

Samantha shrieked happily when she felt Dahlia kick a few times. "Ahh! I love it and so does she!"

"That's such a pretty name," Lyla gushed. "Good job Harry!"

"Hey!" Katie exclaimed.

"What, you didn't pick it out!"

"I could have!"

"You're not that delicate."

"Your face isn't that delicate!"

Thomas chuckled. "Sometimes I worry things change too much, but honestly, some things never do and it's comforting." He hugged Harry around the shoulder. "How're you holding up Son? If Katie's like how Samantha was when she was pregnant, you must be going spare." He pushed Harry in front of him, between him and his wife and daughters.

Harry laughed. "I'm doing great. Don't worry. Katie's been awesome. She does this thing where she'll use her stomach to push me out of the way and it's hilarious."

"Harry, don't tell them that," Katie said weakly with a very red face.

"Sammi did that to me all the time! Like mother, like daughter," Thomas said warmly.

The rest arrived soon after and Andromeda and Sirius were beyond happy with the name.

"That's a smart thing," Sirius praised, "a flower and a star in one. Love it."

"A very elegant name too," Andromeda said, kissing Harry and Katie. "I adore it. There are so many varieties of dahlia blossoms. If she does not love her star one, there are plenty I am sure she will love."

Tonks was grinning. Her head was pressed gently to Katie's abdomen. "She loves it! Oh I can't wait to play with you little Dally. Auntie Dora is going to take such good care of you."

They sat around outside, talking and laughing while Harry cooked over the firepit and grill. It was a warm night and the garden's flowers perfumed the air, highlighting the savory scents of the food. "You must be happy to figure out the name," Amelia said.

"It's a big load off," Katie agreed. "I thought it would take longer but things just felt right today. Alicia and Angelina were here and we were all chatting about names and things."

"Did you really go through most of the book?" Lyla asked, paging through the flower book.

"Not really actually. I used it a little and Harry found the name on his own. We then tested it by saying other flower names to Dally and she barely reacted to any of them except for one. When she heard it she got really angry."

"Angry? Really?" Samantha laughed.

"Pretty sure! She didn't kick but stomp. Like it went straight down and she was rolling around as if very angry."

"Goodness!" Andromeda chuckled. "What name was that?"

"Petunia." Katie grunted, looking uncomfortable.

Samantha gasped. She gently massaged Katie's sides after feeling the reaction. "Whoa, you weren't kidding. Dahlia did not like that at all."

"Siri, what's wrong?" Amelia asked, concerned.

Sirius looked pained. "Uh, well, I'm a little surprised the baby doesn't like the name because how would she know but it's actually not a surprise if you do know."

"What are you on about?" Andromeda asked.

Sirius took a big gulp of wine. "That's the name of Lily's sister."

Silence fell for a moment.

"Well, that is something," Andromeda said finally. She gently rubbed Katie's stomach. "Not even born yet and protecting her father."

Katie wiped a tear away. "Yeah, I can tell she'll be a good girl." After conversation resumed, she levered herself out of her chair and walked over to Harry. She wrapped her arms around him from behind, pressing her forehead into his back.

"Everything okay?" he asked, turning his head slightly.

"Everything's fine," she said softly. "Just wanted to tell you that I love you."

He twisted and hugged her back. "I love you too." He looked at her face. "You sure everything's okay?"

She nodded. "Yeah." She smiled. "Dahlia wanted to be near her daddy."

He grinned. "Well you won't ever hear me complain about that." He leaned down. "What would you like for dinner, Dahlia? Chicken or beef?"

Katie laughed. "I think she wants chicken."

"You know, this might make decision making for a while a lot easier," Harry said with the biggest smile. "She's very opiniated."

"Well we know she has good tastes," Katie agreed. "Dally, should I eat all of daddy's treacle tart?" She frowned. "Huh, guess not."

"Should I eat all my treacle tart?" Harry asked.

"Hey!" Katie looked at her belly with frank betrayal while Harry laughed and laughed. "You're not even born yet and you're playing favorites! I don't like this game anymore."

Harry hugged her tight. "Oh I love you so much."

"At least you do," Katie groused. She grunted again. "Okay okay, I think you do too," she said, patting her front. "I think we're in trouble," she said to Harry with a wry smile.

"The best kind," he replied softly.
