Rent a Girlfriend Fanfic: Stepping Out of the Shadows

Chapter 5:

Kazuya was about to ring Chizuru's doorbell when he heard footsteps approaching. He turned to see Mami walking up the stairs towards him.

"Kazu-kun, what are you doing here?" Mami asked, looking at him with curiosity.

Mami's unexpected entrance caught Kazuya off guard and he scrambled for an excuse. "Oh, I'm just visiting a friend," he explained, motioning towards Chizuru's door.

Mami lifted an eyebrow, evidently skeptical. "Your friend lives here?" she said, her face dubious.

Kazuya nodded, hoping to wrap things up swiftly. "Yeah, she just moved here," he explained.

Mami seemed to be thinking for a moment, and then said, "Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something. Can we go to your apartment?"

Kazuya paused, knowing Chizuru was home and not wanting her to overhear their chat. He didn't want to make things difficult with Mami, either. "Uh, sure," he answered, pointing to his own apartment.

"What is Mami doing here?!" he thought to himself.

Mami was asking questions about this 'buddy' while Kazuya struggled to open his door.

"So, how do you know your 'friend'?" Mami asked.

"He follows the same course as me and he recently moved out of his old place to right next to me." Kazuya responded uncomfortably.

"Right." Mami responded with annoyance.

Kazuya was glad when he finally managed to open his door and let them into his apartment.

Chizuru's heart skipped a beat when she overheard Mami talking with Kazuya in front of their apartment. She couldn't understand what they were saying, but she could tell Mami was insistent. Then she heard Kazuya ask Mami into his flat, which shocked her.

"Why is Mami here? What does she want from him?"

"Perhaps Kazuya invited her."

"Is she aware of the ghosting?"

"It was that random girl yesterday, and now it's Mami."

After numerous thoughts, her jealousy boiled over, and she knew she had to do something to make sure nothing happened between them. She quickly thought of an idea and grabbed her phone.

"Yaemori-san, can you talk with Kazuya-kun for me?" Chizuru asked as soon as Mini answered the phone.

"I'm not home yet," Mini explained, "but I'll can talk to him him when I get there. I will be home in ten minutes."

Chizuru let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much. "All I want is for nothing to happen between Kazuya and Mami," she added, her voice quivering with anguish.

Mini's interest skyrocketed. "Oh? "Are you and Master dating right now?" she inquired.

Chizuru paused for a moment before responding. "I'll answer all your questions about us, but only if you do what I ask," she stated emphatically.

Mini was fascinated, but also concerned about what Chizuru would expect of her. "All right, I'll do it. "Just let me know what you need me to do," she explained.

Chizuru smiled, feeling grateful for Mini's support. "Thank you, Yaemori-san. I just need you to talk to Kazuya and make sure that nothing happens between them," she said, feeling a sense of relief wash over her.

Chizuru couldn't help but be grateful for Mini's friendship as she hung up the phone. And she hoped that with Mini's assistance, she might keep Kazuya out of Mami's clutches.

Mami's eyes widened in terror as they stepped inside. Kazuya's apartment was in shambles, with dirty dishes piling up in the sink and clothes thrown around.

"What the hell is going on, Kazu-kun?" Have you been living this way?" Mami exclaimed, disgustedly gazing around.

Kazuya's face flushed with humiliation. "I'm sorry about that." "I've been in a bad place lately," he explained, making excuses.

"What happened?" asked Mami with a lot of interest.

When Kazuya thinks about what happened, tears quickly begin to flow from his eyes.

"Mizuhara has been avoiding me for three months!" Kazuya sobbed as he spoke.

"Ghosting? "Why would she do that?" Mami said, surprised.

"I want to know that too!" said Kazuya fiercely.

"I understand you're upset about this situation, but you don't have to take it out on me." Mami spoke gently.

"You're right, I'm sorry." Kazuya stated apologetically.

"I forgive you, Kazu-kun, but let us move on to more important matters." So you lied about dating for real now back then?" Mami inquired, perplexed.

"I was about to tell the truth, when Mizuhara interrupted and kissed me. Twice." Kazuya told her the truth.

"Do you know why she kissed you?" Mami asked.

"I wish I knew. Every day I'm thinking for possible reasons why she has done that." Kazuya said.

"Hah, I guess I can't help you with this one." Mami said apologetically.

After some moments, Kazuya finally got a grip to himself and he stopped crying.

"I guess I forgot about everything when I was with Akane."

"So, what brought you to my house today?" Kazuya questioned.

"I just wanted to check up on you Kazu-kun. I haven't heard anything about you the last two weeks, so I decided to get that information myself." Mami said.

"Thanks for looking out for me. I guessed it was for the better that you came today." Kazuya said while looking down.

"No worries. Yes, I believe it is. " The doorbell rang as Mami was concluding her sentence.

Kazuya looked at Mami, unsure of who could be at the door. He got up and walked to the door, feeling his heart pounding in his chest.

He looked through his door hole and to his surprise, he saw Yaemori Mini standing in front of him.
