Chapter 4: Venturing Into Uncharted Territory
Honestly, this was just becoming more and more obvious, to just be a case of pure and utter arrogance. Misaka just wanted to prove that she could win against someone, that quite frankly, she had no clear chance of winning against. I was of course talking about the current situation of Misaka having her current fight, if you can even call it a fight, down by a riverbank, against Touma Kamijou and his strange ability that seemed to be involving his right hand, while I watched from the sidelines. Because to tell you the honest truth, I wanted no part of their fight, Misaka was the one who had the issue with Touma, not me. And to tell you the honest truth, despite the lack of information, that I knew about Touma from watching the first three episodes of A Certain Magical Index. And unlike Misaka, I at least knew when to back out of a fight if I saw that I had no chance of winning. And against someone like Touma, regarding me and Misaka's last encounter with him, it was clear that I had no chance of winning. This wound up with me making the decision to sideline myself. I was a lot of things, but arrogant, as Misaka was currently being, wasn't one of them. But I am getting ahead of myself again, let us travel back to around how this all started shall we?
Okay, I don't care what Saten or anyone says about urban legends, because to tell you the truth, this one seemed pretty real to me. And this was not because Touma, Misaka and I had just seen a woman, for no particular reason, and without warning I might add, started unbuttoning her shirt in public. I mean really? Last I checked, this wasn't Highschool DxD. This, not suprisingly, cause all three of us to blush with embarassment. And, as Touma ran off saying that he said he had somewhere to be. Misaka, for some reason or another, decided to take off after him. But not before the strange woman asked Misaka for her shirt back, because, when Touma had left, he had given the strange woman's shirt to Misaka. After giving the very strange woman her shirt back, and with embarrassed looks on our faces, we both took off running after Touma.
Wow, you really can say that a gang of unruly guys that harass young women like me and Misaka, really are the worst. And this situation was really no exception to that. And, as we both leaned up against the shuttered shop, as the unruly guys chattered away, I couldn't help but share the same expression that Misaka was wearing, disgust and dissapointment. Those who treat young women like this, they really have no manners. However, as this went on, a familiar face, who I recognized as Touma, walked up, and started pulling Misaka out of the group of unruly guys by her arm. Me, seeing as she was resisting, stayed put, because I could see that as she was resisting, she was slowly becoming agitated.
It was then that I remembered, back to the events of the first episode, Misaka had acted in a similar way to me, right before she gave me a similar look to what she gave Touma. And sure enough, this of course led to Misaka conjuring up a huge amount of electricity, so much in fact, that it disabled all of the unruly guys that were standing around us. But, not surprisingly, to me anyways, I was unaffected, and apparently, so was Touma. Because as the dust settled, Touma was holding up his right hand. This then lead to Misaka telling Touma that they needed to finally settle the score once and for all. It was at this point though however, that she decided to turn her attention to me, and wanted to drag me into her mess. "Thanks for the offer sis, but I am going to have to politely decline" I said, with a bead of sweat falling down the side of my face. Misaka of course, didn't take my response very well, I mean, how would you feel if your sister just told you no to help you out with something. But, after a bit of arguing between Misaka and I. It was ultimately decided, that I would be sidelined from the fight. And, because it was Misaka who had the issue with Touma, she would be the one to fight him.
Yep, here we are again, all caught up. And to tell you the truth, the fight really doesn't seem any less arrogant when it comes to someone like Misaka. But, boy she can use her powers well. However, as I had expected, this didn't matter, as long as Touma had that ability in that right hand of his. As long as he touched Misaka, her powers didn't work. This was very terrifying to me, an ability that can cause other abilities to stop working. That was exactly one of the urban legends that Saten had told us about a day ago. It was after Touma apparently pretended to lose, which not suprisingly, agitated the absolute heck out of Misaka. And to tell you the truth, it didn't really faze me, from what I saw, he had only pretended to lose, because he had seen Misaka flinch for a brief moment. However, this didn't stop Touma from taking off into the night, and Misaka running off after him, and I followed close behind Misaka, quickly catching up to her. And as the two of us chased Touma into the night, I was quickly starting to realize, being a level 5 electromaster may have its benefits, but boy does it have its ups and downs as well.
