CHAPTER 2: OREGON (USA)

The morning sun peaked from behind the forest treetops and and snow-covered mountains. Birds chirped in the distance. The sunlight glistened through the golden fields of a local farm.

Deep in the woods, an elderly 34-year-old animal was snoozing on the soft ground. She had a length of 40 feet and if she stood up, she would tower at about 18 feet. Her neck, shoulders, jaws, and snout were covered with battle scars from fighting enemies. She had strong muscular legs and a long thick tail. The animal also had two small but strong arms with two fingered claws. And in her mouth were 60 large sharp teeth that were used for gripping and tearing. The coloration on the creature was a light grayish brown.

Tyrannosaurus Rex. Or T-Rex for short.

And her name was Rexy.

Sometimes she has been called Roberta, but she is mostly known as Rexy.

This aging dinosaur has been through a lot.

She was born on the island Isla Sorna A.K.A. Site B inside the InGen Compound in the year 1988. Rexy spent the first year of her life inside the lab being taken care of by its workers before being transported to Isla Nublar to live in the Tyrannosaur Paddock as an attraction for InGen's Jurassic Park. It took her a while to get used to her new surroundings. When she tried to go exploring outside of her enclosure, the electric fence's forced her back.

During the late 1980s and early 1990s, she made several more attempts to get past the electric fences, but she never succeeded because the 10,000 volt charge really hurt! After a few failed tries, the lone T-Rex gave up and spent most of her time hiding in the jungle and mostly refusing to eat the goats that were given to her. She just drank water and ate small birds and fish.

But a couple years later, in 1993, when Jurassic Park's power went out, Rexy finally found a way out of her cage. She was thrilled when she stepped out of the paddock and she let out a loud roar to show it.

She did have ups and downs.

When she escaped her pen on a rainy night, she got irritated with bright lights shining in her eyes, she missed her opportunity to catch a few live prey, she got outrun by a jeep which had more prey inside, had fought with one pesky smaller predator that wounded her with long sharp claws.

But she also had a delicious goat meal, the electric fences did not hurt her anymore, she made her first human kill, she killed a few dinosaur prey, she won her first dinosaur fight, and she finally got her wish to explore the rest of the island.

In the aftermath of the Jurassic Park Incident, Rexy became wild and lived on Isla Nublar for about a decade, scaring off and killing herbivores such as Gallimimus, Parasaurolophus, abandoned goat herds, Triceratops, and small Brachiosaurus.

The only Tyrannosaurus Rex was happy with her happy and peaceful life...

But it didn't last long.

In the year 2002, the dinosaur was captured and put back into captivity.

She was angry to be back in a cage again for a while. She refused livestock food for a few days, but then got used to being inside her new home and became quite content and comfortable with her new territory.

The T-Rex even began to love the taste of livestock meat. She was fed twice a day and she became one of the most popular attractions in the new dinosaur theme park Jurassic World.

Rexy lived in the Tyrannosaurus Rex Kingdom for a little more than a decade.

But her new peaceful life was once again changed.

At the end of the year 2015, a monstrous dinosaur hybrid called the Indominus Rex escaped from her paddock and made a kill count of over 30 kills across the island. The island was once again evacuated. During the final battle on Main Street, Rexy was released from her paddock and was led to the theme park to battle against the untamable queen.

The older predator had fought against other dinosaurs before, so the Jurassic Park Veteran was ready to fight and she challenged the Indominus Rex.

Unfortunately, the T-Rex didn't know exactly what that new creature was, but she did identify it as a huge threat. The killing machine did not back down and the Final Battle had begun!

At first, Rexy initially had the advantage, landing several bites to the I-Rex's neck, but she was fighting from a territorial standpoint whilst the hybrid was aiming to KILL.

Unfortunately, the tables turned.

Rexy got bitten, rammed, pinned down, and scratched.

But before the old dinosaur got the final killing blow, one of the small dinosaurs intervened and distracted the the Indominus, giving the T-Rex the time to get up off the ground, using her small but strong two fingered arms.

In the third and final act of the dinosaur fight, Rexy changed her instincts at once: fighting to KILL! Teaming up with the smaller dinosaur, the mighty Tyrant Lizard Queen bit down on the Indominus Rex's neck dragging her and slamming her into the buildings of the Main Street. At one point, the small dinosaur rode on Rexy's back while she slammed the I-Rex into the buildings. The T-Rex finally pushed the hybrid near the edge of the Jurassic World Lagoon, where the Mosasaurus that resided there leaped out of the water to snatch the Indominus Rex and drag her underwater, drowning the hybrid.

After the fight, Rexy spared the small dinosaur that helped her and limped away to recover from her injuries she sustained from the battle.

In the aftermath of the Jurassic World Incident, Rexy explored Isla Nublar for the first time in a decade, and found a beautiful view of the whole ruined and abandoned theme park. As she warmed her wounds in rising sun, the Queen of the Dinosaurs claimed the island as hers by letting out a loud roar.

For 3 years, Rexy the lone T-Rex had another long, happy, and peaceful life on Isla Nublar. She found, reclaimed, and protected her old territories as well as her new ones. She feasted on goats, cows, pigs, and deer livestock and also other dinosaurs: Parasaurolophus, Sinoceratops, Baryonyx, and other herbivores and carnivores. One in a while she would meet the small dinosaur that helped her in the fight with the I-Rex, who would always keep her distance away from the the Queen of Isla Nublar. Both carnivores respected each other and always made their separate ways.

But once again her new peaceful life came to an end.

It turned out that Isla Nublar had a volcano and it was preparing to erupt soon. Rexy became afraid of the ominous rumbles and when the volcano finally blew its top, both the old T-Rex and the other surviving dinosaurs ran for their lives. When they reached the cliff top, Rexy was one of the many creatures that jumped into the ocean. Luckily, the Tyrannosaurus Rex is an excellent swimmer. She used her back legs and long tail to help her swim to safety.

Unfortunately, when the Queen of Isla Nublar reached the shore, she encountered some humans with guns and was caught. Rexy was tranquilized and transported to a cargo ship to be taken somewhere.

Hours later, Rexy the T-Rex found herself inside a cramped cage. She became angry and rammed against the bars, trying to get out, but she was trapped. Her ferocious roars echoed across the building she was in.

The next day, some poisonous gas released into the building, threatening to kill the dinosaurs that were kept in cages. Eventually, Rexy was freed along with the other dinosaurs by some humans, who opened the gates that set them all free and allowing the prehistoric animals to escape the building.

Once she was back out in the open air, Rexy became confused about her new surroundings. The smells were strange and almost alien. When the sun came up, the Tyrannosaurus Rex saw that she was in a new world. She wasn't on Isla Nublar anymore. The trees were bigger and taller, there were more buildings, and there was lots of people.

The old T-Rex did eat a many people for three years, but she mostly stayed away from them because she was overwhelmed by the crowds, noise, and numbers of humans. She had more than a dozen people chasing her than she would have chased them. She was however a little happier to find some of her favorite food at certain places: goats, cows, deer, and other dinosaurs. During 2018, Rexy did stumble across zoos, towns, parks, farms, camps, and a couple small cities.

Her biggest fear about living in a strange new world was being captured for the forth time in her life. From 2018 to 2021, the old dinosaur was chased by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Department. Luckily, Rexy was fast and the officers were unable to catch her for a long time.

The former Queen of Isla Nublar was scared and confused for a very long time, but like when she lived in 2 theme parks, she got used to her new home and learned to adapt to it.

Soon, her new lifestyle became similar to her old home back at Costa Rica: hunting for food, defending her territory, migrating across the country, surviving in different temperatures, and fighting with other animals. She did meet the smaller dinosaur she lived with back on Isla Nublar. The small dinosaur knew that the larger predator was something she didn't want to mess with and kept her distance from Rexy, respectfully.

Rexy walked through forests, deserts, and snow.

Rexy was very interested in the snow, for it was something she'd never seen before.

Some people would think that the elderly T-Rex would have been cold in the winter, but dinosaurs are warm-blooded and warm-blooded creatures could survive in the cold weather.

Currently, Rexy had found what she thought to be a permanent home in the United State of Oregon. There was a forest she could hide in, fresh prey that was easy to find, clean and refreshing water to drink from, swim in, and bathe in, and a great place to sleep.

(Cue the beginning of the "Jurassic Park" theme by John Williams.)

And now, Rexy the old Tyrannosaurus Rex, was fast asleep in a peaceful slumber in her new home. That is, until a small fly flew overhead and landed on the dinosaur's nose.

Rexy snorted in annoyance, with air coming out from her nostrils, and the pesky insect flew away immediately.

The T-Rex woke up, grumpily growling. Her yellow-amber eyes blinked in the morning sunlight. She then made a loud yawn that echoed across the forest. Rexy moaned as she used her left foot to scratch behind her itchy ear hole. Then the old T-Rex used her short, but strong arms to push herself back onto her feet. Besides being interrupted by her night rest, she was ready for a new day.

The elderly dinosaur bellowed, now fully awake. Then she kicked dirt, mud, and rocks behind her with her large back legs. (Revealing a big homemade nest. "That hints what will happen later.") After that, Rexy walked away from her napping place and further into the forest.

Rexy's footsteps trembled the ground.

The former Queen of Isla Nublar sniffed the air as she started to hunt for food. The height of the humongous creature would have been as tall as a tree. The eyes searched the ground for easy prey to eat for breakfast. She finally picked up a scent and quietly looked down to see a juvenile male deer, that was grazing on some small grass on the ground. Before the deer could react...

(CHOMP!)

Rexy reared down to bite her jaws into the poor helpless animal. Blood splattered and bones crushed as the deer bleated in fear and pain. The old T-Rex shook the buck like a dog shaking its chew toy. After shaking the animal to death and swallowing it whole, Rexy moved on.

The carnivorous dinosaur stopped in front of a tall tree to scrape her mouth and teeth on the bark. A squirrel scurried away up the the tree trunk.

After the theropod finished marking her territory on the wood surface of the pine tree, Rexy walked away from there to a long winding river. She ducked her head down to drink some water.

Then the T-Rex heard a noise a few feet away and lifted her head to look around. She finally saw who had made the sound: a big American black bear, and it looked mad, growling at the much larger dinosaur.

But when Rexy made a louder and scarier bellow at the intruder, the bear instantly became afraid and ran off.

The old Tyrannosaurus Rex snorted after the fleeing animal in annoyance. Then she stepped into the water to go for a swim. Rexy rarely swam throughout her life, but when she had to, she was great at swimming. After being in the river for a few minutes, the Apex Predator walked back on shore and dried herself off. After she shook the water off of her scales, Rexy walked to the very entrance of the woods.

A rabbit was grazing on the ground and then it hopped away when it saw the old T-Rex stomping out of the forest. The huge theropod foot stepped on the spot where the bunny had been with a loud...

(BOOM)

Rexy stepped out of the trees and sniffed the air for some more food, her yellow amber eyes blinking in the sunlight, and her lower jaw still dripping a little bit of water and some blood.

What she saw ahead of her made her stomach grumble with excitement and hunger.

A herd of cattle grazing in a farmland.

Rexy growled softly and slowly moved forward, trying to keep quiet. Unfortunately, her big foot stepped on a tree branch.

(Snap)

One of the cows looked up at the sound of the crack. It sniffed the air, twitching its ears, and its eyes alert.

Rexy the old T-Rex froze. And tried to keep herself hidden and blended in the forest.

A couple minutes later, the black and white cow decided it didn't hear anything and went back to grazing, its silver cowbell ringing on it's red harness collar.

(Cue ominous music by Michael Giacchino)

The Queen of Isla Nublar relaxed and moved forward again with a determined growl. As soon as she got close enough, Rexy narrowed her eyes, lowered her head, twitched her arms, opened her mouth, and let out a loud and ferocious roar!

ROOOOAR!!!

All of the cattle looked up and saw the deadly predator. Then they moved in fear and ran towards the barn.

The Tyrant Lizard Queen roared in fury and ran after the stampeding herd, stepping over the small barbed wire fence that would have protected the cattle. She bellowed at the cows and they separated in a panic. Rexy went for the slowest individual and snapped at its legs. Then she rammed the poor animal off its feet. Before the cow could regain her balance, Rexy opened her huge muscular jaws and chomped her razor sharp teeth into the farm animal's flesh. Blood and flecks of flesh splattered in different directions. The cattle bellowed in pain and agony as it died.

Rexy dropped the dead body on the ground and roared in triumph!

ROOOOOOOOAR!!!

After that, the old T-Rex bent down to rip the black and white flesh off of the corpse, her mouth dripping with blood.

A rustling sound came from behind Rexy.

She looked up a little spooked.

(Cue ominous music by Michael Giacchino)

The nervous dinosaur sniffed the air, her eyes scanning the field. Then she peered into the place where she heard the noise. Rexy narrowed her eyes and bellowed, trying to make whoever made the sound show itself.

A raven flew out of its hiding place, cawing as it soared away into the sky.

Rexy watched the bird disappear from view. Then she walked back to her meal, moaning and shaking her big head. The T-Rex sighed with happiness about her peace and quiet she could finally have.

But not for long...

As Rexy continued eating her delicious cow flesh, a tranquilizer gun peaked from behind the dinosaur from the wheats, and she had not seen it.

It turned out that the Fish and Wildlife Service had finally found the old T-Rex near this farm, and were contacted by the owner who lived there. He told them that the carnivorous dinosaur had been coming every month to kill and take away his livestock.

So now, there was three Fish and Wildlife Service officers here, with camouflage uniforms and tranquilizer gear in their hands, and armed to capture the T-Rex.

(POP!)

One of men shot a tranquilizer dart right into Rexy's flank.

(Cue intense music by Michael Giacchino)

Rexy's eyes opened wide with surprise, shock, horror, and anger.

She roared at the intruders.

The officers charged at the Apex Predator.

"Come on! We got her! Quick! Before she gets away!" Yelled one of the officers.

Rexy snarled and bared her teeth. She felt woozy, but she wasn't going to give up without a fight.

She snapped at the man closest to her.

He dodged the attack.

The Queen of the Dinosaurs lunged again.

This time her aim was true.

Rexy's teeth sunk into the man's flesh.

The officer screamed in pain and agony as his bone snapped and blood sprayed out of his chest.

The carnivore shook the human in her huge jaws as he died.

The killed man's companion fired his tranquilizer dart into the dinosaur's tail.

Rexy bellowed in pain and fury, dropped the corpse out of her mouth, and turned her attention to the other officer.

The old T-Rex chomped on the second officer in the head killing him in a instant.

The last remaining officer fired his weapon at Rexy's neck.

Rexy bellowed one more time, her eyes widening with surprise, and her body swaying from the three tranquilizer doses of sedation. She moaned with exhaustion, her eyes now drooped, and finally succumbed to unconsciousness.

The theropod lost her balance and collapsed on the ground in defeat.

The surviving Fish and Wildlife Service officer sighed with relief.

"Whew! That took 3 years." He said panting and sweating, his heart beating fast. Then he took out a walkie-talkie out of his pocket and turned it on.

"Fish and Wildlife Service, this is Jerry. I've finally caught the animal you've been after." The officer said. "Unfortunately, my two companions didn't make it. The damn animal ate them. It is 3 darts to bring her down..."

As the officer rambled on in his conversation with his former employees, Rexy slept on the now bloody field, still sedated from the tranquilizer darts. But while the Queen of Isla Nublar laid on the ground unconscious, a mysterious small creature flew out of the field and landed on the dinosaur's head, rustling its wings, chirping and buzzing. The unknown animal had long pointy spiked legs and a four colored body of red, green, yellow, and brown. It's four wings were leathery and it was about a foot long.

(Cue the beginning music notes of The Hay of Locusts by Michael Giacchino)

It was a huge locust.

Rexy, even though she was asleep, seemed to notice that there was an insect on her snout and snorted.

The giant locust flew away from the dinosaur and disappeared from sight into the morning sky, as Rexy the old Tyrannosaurus Rex remained unconscious on in the farmland.
