The kiss was beyond passionate, they had kissed in the past whilst undercover, but this kiss was blowing her mind. His lips were soft and his skill was more impressive than she could ever of imagined. His left hand was buried in her hair and his right gently stroking her hip. She moved her leg over his body, so she was sat across his waist, he was turned on, she could feel it through his jeans. He pulled away suddenly and he laid back on to the floor "Ah Stevie" he laughed "Do you know what you have just done to me?"
"We don't have to stop" she grinned as she leant back towards him, he pecked her lips before pulling away "What's wrong?" she asked
"Stevie, I just don't think this is a good idea"
"But, I heard you talking to Callum, you told him you love me"
"Wow, Erm okay, I had no idea you heard that, you weren't meant too"
"I'm sorry" she spoke quickly as she pushed to her feet "I'm really sorry Smithy", tears streamed down her face as she ran from the room and into her bedroom.
"Stevie" he spoke from the door way, a few moments had passed before he had appeared and he looked unsure what his next move should be "Can I come in?"
"I'm sorry Smithy" she cried. He moved inside and she flinched away from him, he gave her a reassuring smile and she allowed him to pull her into a cuddle. "I thought it was what you wanted"
"Stevie, it is what I want and I am in love with you". She glanced up and looked at him through her watery eyes "But, I don't think this is right, not at the moment"
"Is it me?"
"Honestly, yeah Stevie, I won't take advantage of you and I don't believe for one second you are ready for anything to happen with anyone"
"I'm sorry"
"Don't be Stevie, my feelings for you, it's not a new thing, it's always been here and I will always stand by you, all I want is for you to be happy and I will do whatever I can to help you find happiness, who ever that will be with"
"You are such a good man Dale Smith"
"Yeah, I hate that" he kissed her forehead "You alright though?"
"Yeah, thank you Smithy".
Stevie had expected things to be awkward but Smithy had gone out of his way to make her feel comfortable. He almost seemed like a weight had been lifted now she knew his true feelings. A couple of days had passed and Stevie was feeling happy with how things were, she was returning to work this morning, she had a meeting with Neil to update her on everything and then she would start her first shift in over a month. Arriving to see Neil, her and Smithy both sat down opposite him. "How have you been Stevie?" Neil asked
"I'm okay, ready to get stuck back in"
"Good, you have certainly been missed". A knock sounded the room and DI Watson walked inside. Smithy took hold of Stevie's hand and she glanced into his eyes, it was reassuring but she was still worried. "Stevie, you remember Sandra?"
"Yes, hello" she replied "What's going on?"
"Stevie, there is no easy way to say this" Sandra spoke "The CPS won't move forward with your accusations against DI Flynn, I'm sorry"
"Okay" she whispered, Smithy kissed her hand "So what happens now?"
"The internal investigation will be dropped Stevie" Neil spoke "The borough commander doesn't feel its in anyone's best interest to continue with it"
"Well that's a piss take, I can't believe you have just rolled over after what he had put her through" Smithy said
"Smithy, this is above me" Neil smiled "This does mean, he will be returning to work"
"Here?" she asked
"Yes, we will be looking at shift patterns and we will do everything we can to minimise your working hours over lapping"
"Okay"
"He will not be acting as your superior officer, you will report to Inspector Smith and work alongside uniform"
"This is a joke Neil and you know it" Smithy spoke
"It's the system"
"Well, the system has just hung Stevie out to dry"
"I need some air" Stevie stood up and left the room, as fast as her feet could carry her, until she was in the station carpark.
She wasn't really sure how long she had been sat on the wall, next to the riot van, when Jo rested down next to her. "You okay?" she asked
"I'm fed up with everyone keep asking me that"
"Sorry Stevie"
"No, Jo, I'm sorry. It's been a rough few weeks, made worse by the fact Dec is returning to work"
"You serious?"
"Yeah, how is any of this fair? Today was meant to be my first day back, doing the job I love and they drop that on me"
"It's not fair Stevie, is there anything I can do?"
"There is nothing anyone can do"
"No? Because I'm pretty sure he is waiting over there to give you a cuddle and to try and make you feel better". Jo nodded her head in the direction of where Smithy now stood and he gave her a slight smile. "You know where I am if you need anything Stevie" she squeezed her hand before rising to her feet and walking off.
Smithy and Jo exchanged a smile, Stevie stood up as he headed over and he pulled her into a tight hug "It will be okay Stevie" he kissed the top of her head "I won't let him hurt you".
"I know Smithy, thank you"
"Neil said you can take the day off if you need it"
"I would rather come and work a case with you, if that's okay?"
"Of course, come and show me how it is done DS Moss".
They had worked a burglary, it had been great to get stuck in and they had a brilliant result charging the victim, a 73 year old Daisy Butlers, live in carer and her boyfriend. They had decided to go to the pub with the team, she had been sat between Smithy and Jo. Smithy talking away to Callum, the other side of him and her chatting to Jo about the success of the case. Uniform had been so welcoming, often they snuck down the pub with out CID cramping their style but they had invited her into the close knit group without a seconds thought, she was sure that was Smithy's doing. She had just finished her third pint and headed off to the toilet. Coming out of the toilets, she froze as she saw the man smirking at her "Hello Stevie, long time no see". She was glued to the spot, her legs wouldn't move, her mouth wouldn't scream, all the lessons Lexi had given her had left her mind. "Aren't you going to say hello?" he asked
"Hello Declan"
"I have heard you are back at work, I'll be back next week, I would like you to move home before then"
"What?"
"No one believes you Stevie, so you will give up this ridiculous crusade and come home"
"I don't want too"
"I'm sorry, did I make it sound like a choice?"
"I'm not frightened of you any more"
"Yes, you are" he took hold of her hand "Let's go". He was leading her to the exit and she could see the table of uniform across the pub, sitting in laughter.
"Smithy" she yelled, as loud as her lungs would allow. The pubs punters all turned to her and his eyes met hers from across the room "Help me" she mouthed
"You stupid cow" Declan spat.
Smithy was beside her and she pulled from Declan's grip. Callum was beside him and she instinctively moved behind them. "She is coming home, where she belongs" Dec spoke "Tell them"
"Stevie is going no where with you" Smithy responded. She stood motionless on the spot, tears slowly running down her cheeks
"It must drive you insane Smithy, knowing I have had her, that I have done all the things you have been fantasising about but she is my girlfriend"
"No, she is a beautiful, funny, amazing woman, who you have raped and beaten and tortured and I will never let you hurt her again"
"I will get her back, you hear that Stevie, you will come back"
"Nah, she is safe and loved Flynn and I will make damn sure you don't get anywhere near her"
Declan moved towards Smithy and spoke so quietly, she couldn't make out what he had said. Smithy grabbed hold of him and forced him against the wall "You go near her and I am going to kill you, you get that? I will fucking kill you".
"Leave" Callum spoke to Declan as he moved between the two men "Or I'll nick ya for breach of the peace".
"See you soon Stevie" Declan spoke as he left the pub.
"You're safe Stevie" Smithy turned and pulled her into his arms, he kissed her head and held her close "You never have to go back Stevie, I promise". He held her close as she sobbed on his shoulder. Jo moved over with their stuff and she slipped into her coat and Smithy thanked their colleagues before leading her from the pub.
