Out of all the dresses that Hinata had ever worn to an event, she hated this one the most. She was long since used to clothes that fit her figure, showed a professional amount of cleavage, and heels that were designed for looks over comfort. This dress plunged down her whole back, making her feel naked with every brush of her hair, its draping tucked between her cleavage, making it clear she was not wearing a normal bra, the length demanded tall heels, but the fabric felt like it might rip if she stepped on it.
Hinata fussed with the dress in the mirror. Even the slightest movement violently reminded her how thin the fabric was. She was sure it would look lovely on someone who had the confidence to wear it, but for her, there was no making it feel better. She was just going to have to get used to it.
"What is that?" Sasuke exit the bathroom, mostly dressed in his suit, with his face in a mixture of surprise and horror.
Did she look as bad as felt it? "It's what the designer sent."
"You look like you're going to be sick." Sasuke crossed the room to stand behind her in the mirror. "I'm you look great, but…"
"I hate it." Hinata let all her insecurities show on her face as she crossed over her chest. She felt naked, and she didn't even want him looking at her in this.
Sasuke put his hands on her bare shoulders. "Just wear something else."
"I can't. I am supposed to wear this." Hinata could hear the panic in her own voice. Maybe she should just not go.
"If I have to call the damn designer, I will." Sasuke pressed. "Put something else on before you start hyperventilating." Hinata chewed on her lip. This was part of her job. "I bet you own something by this designer. Let me look."
Hinata stepped away from the mirror and waited for Sasuke to find a suitable replacement.
"If anyone gives you shit, tell them that I wasn't comfortable with you wearing it. I am not comfortable with you looking at yourself in the mirror like that." Sasuke pulled out a from her event-wear. "Put this on."
"Thank you," Hinata whispered as she disappeared to change.
Sasuke sighed as Hinata came back in the other dress. Hinata looked relieved in the mirror. When he came out and saw her face twisted in panic as she tried to convince herself it was fine, his stomach twisted in a knot. There should be a form they filled out that could veto dresses that far out of comfort levels. "Much better."
"Are you sure it will be fine?" Hinata chewed on her lip as she straightened her back, already looking more comfortable.
"I could wear the dress would that make you feel better." Sasuke slid his hand around her midsection, feeling her giggle and her hands folded over his across her stomach.
Hinata relaxed back into him. "I don't think it would fit you."
"We could find out." Sasuke kissed her shoulder, then looked at her in the mirror while he opened his teeth over the spot.
Hinata flinched away. "Don't you dare."
Sasuke chuckled. Her blush was for a better reason now.
Hinata reached back to keep Sasuke from taking her phone. Sasuke latched onto the thigh, resting across his lap as he tried to pull her whole body down to get the phone closer. "Stop working."
"I will be done in a minute." Hinata arched her back to hold the phone the furthest she could from him while still seeing what she is typing. "The longer you distract me, the longer this is going to take."
"Or you could leave it till tomorrow." Sasuke successfully pulled her across his lap. Hinata had to roll off the couch to get away from him.
"I need a reply by tomorrow morning." Hinata took a few moments to finish her message. "See, done." She put the phone down on the coffee table and sat back down with her legs tented over his.
"Why don't you turn it off?" Sasuke grumbled, putting his hands back on her thigh.
"Because I am your brother's emergency contact." Hinata countered.
Sasuke made a face. "He's still getting priority over me. You know I am the one you're engaged to, right?"
"Are you always so jealous of your brother?" Hinata rest sat up toward him, mocking his pain.
"I think I am justified." Sasuke countered.
Hinata closed the distance and pressed her lips to his for a moment. "I promise your brother is not competition."
"Maybe for attention." Sasuke wrapped his arm around her back and pulled her more directly onto his lap.
"He causes more trouble." Hinata circled his neck and rest her arms there on his shoulders.
Sasuke raised an eyebrow. "So you tell me I should cause more trouble?"
"No." Hinata rolled her eyes. "I come to you for a few moments of the day when I don't have to worry about what else needs to be fixed."
Sasuke rested his face in the air at the end of her nose and smiled. "I'll take that." He slid his hand up her back to push her back into another kiss, ignoring her phone buzzing with another notification on the table.
Hinata always looked particularly cute, with her hair tossed up in sweats with her legs curled up under her. The sweats were high-end loungewear, and her hair still had curls in it from the day before, but it was as dressed down as Sasuke ever saw her, and he might be the only person who ever saw her this dressed down anymore.
She tucked some of the hair that refused to stay up behind her ear as sipped her coffee waiting for him to come back, so they could continue watching the movie he convinced her to actually watch. Not that he wouldn't mind what happened any other time they would try to watch a movie, but he wanted her to relax.
Sasuke sat next to her with a plate of snacks and unpaused the TV. "You think you can pay attention this time?"
Hinata side-eyed him as she leaned onto him. "Maybe you're more interesting than the movies you pick out."
"That's what you're going with?" Sasuke chuckled. Hinata's cheeks turned red with his teasing.
"Itachi wants me to go somewhere and not tell you." Sasuke read from his phone.
Hinata looked up from her desk as Sasuke just popped his head in. "Well, that didn't work out well for him."
"I think he knows I will tell you, so he just wants me to meet him, so I can't tell you where I am going." Sasuke plopped down into the chair across from her desk. "What do you think?"
Hinata shrugged. "He's your brother. If he doesn't want you to tell me, it's either a gift or something he knows I will disapprove of. The fact that he told you not to say anything, knowing you would tell me, means it's probably a gift." Hinata explained. "If it were something I would disapprove of, he would either tell me directly and do it anyway or just pick you up without warning." Sasuke blinked at her past his phone. "What?"
"I think you have spent too much time with my family," Sasuke commented.
"That's your fault, now." Hinata waved her ringed hand.
"Hmph," Sasuke grumbled.
"Speak of which, if your mother shows up with fertility tea one more time, I'm going spill it on her. I hate barley." Hinata huffed. "The only person she is getting pregnant is Lee-san." Her face scrunched at her own wording.
"You could tell her you're having children until you're married," Sasuke suggested.
Hinata shook her head. "You know exactly what that would do. She would start planning the wedding."
"I'm not complaining." Sasuke chuckled at the look she gave him. "Hey, I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't start already. She's been attached to you since you comforted her at the hospital. That is your fault. You made the mistake of sympathizing with the monster. Now it likes you."
"For now." Hinata was waiting when the tides would turn back, maybe when Itachi's newest secret came out. Would that be the breaking point for Mikoto? Would she go as far as demanding breaking the engagement?
Hinata was never sure what Mikoto's next move was, but she could expect whatever it would be aggressive.
Sasuke face twisted his face. "Maybe it is a gift."
"Hmm?" Hinata wondered after drifting back to her work.
"Can't tell you if it's a gift." Sasuke teased. "Don't worry if it's something like he likes to pull in the past, I'll tell you. You've been honest with me."
