"Talking"

...
Roman gently laid a hand on the kid's chest. It brought dull hazel eyes to look at him. In that moment he knew Oscar was lost in his head. If he wanted more information he would have to go about this carefully. Otherwise, the kid would shut down.
To Neo he mouthed tea and she nodded before heading into the kitchen. With more kindness than would have been attributed to someone in his profession, he guided Oscar to his couch. The boy sat without being asked but he was still wrapped up in his head. Roman took a seat next to him hoping that another presence would ground the kid.
After a moment's consideration, he started talking softly about his cane. First, he described its design and why he went with it. Roman had the kid's weapon he knew how rare it was for someone to choose a cane. Though for the life of him he couldn't work out how to bring out any properties it might have. Surely the kid would have put a dust mechanism in it. Or a way to shoot tranquilizers. Something other than close-quarters combat. Anyone with half a brain knew the dangers of getting close to a Grim.
Oscar had tilted his head ever so slightly when Roman started. He took it as a sign to continue to speak. Quietly he began to recite the inner workings that he knew by heart. When he was younger reciting how to take it apart and put it back together had calmed him.
As he went into how to clean the barrel after use he felt a weight on his shoulder. Looking down he saw that Oscar was nodding off. Sighing internally he kept going. Everything that had happened so far must be taking its toll. It wasn't normal for a kid to be sleeping this much. Was it?
Neo returned to the living room with two cups of tea. One she handed to him and the other she took the single chair in the room. Roman had not stopped in his slow calm walkthrough of his weapon. Nor did it take long for Oscar to fall completely asleep.
After placing his cup down Roman shifted the kid so that he was lying across the couch. Then he pulled off his jacket and laid it over Oscar. Later he would move him into the bedroom. Once he was sure that the boy wouldn't wake up he picked up his tea and motioned for Neo to follow him.
They went into the kitchen and Neo signed questioningly, 'Who is the kid? Where did you find him?'
Roman ran a hand down his face as he replied, "His name is Oscar Pine and he fell out of the sky landing on top of me. I swear if this city starts raining kid I'll scream."
There was a flicker of a smile on Neo's face before it was gone.
'So why did you bring him home? If you brought home every injured child we'd be overrun and practically an orphanage.'
Roman took a sip of his tea only to scowl at the taste. It was too strong and there wasn't nearly enough sugar. Neo knew he had a sweet tooth and if she was going to make him tea she could at least put sugar in it. The look in her eyes said it was intentional.
Roman leaned back on his heels and put the tea on the counter. How to explain it to her?
In a tight voice, Roman said, "He was badly injured when he landed on me. I took him to the hospital to get the injuries treated and to find out what happened. As soon as he woke up he tried to escape and nearly made it out into the city. If I hadn't caught him he would have. Curiosity had me send a blood test out to find out who he was."
Here he paused and gave her a look. She looked at him expectantly. Though there was the slightest flicker of sympathy in her mismatched eyes. At least she didn't think him an idiot now.
Then he said hiding his anger at what Oscar had said before, "His blood test came back fairly quickly. He is the son of the Beacon Headmaster."
Neo's jaw dropped open. She looked back to the living room where said boy was. Then she pointed toward the living room.
'Him? He is the Beacon's Headmaster kid? Have you lost your damn mind in kidnapping him?'
"Will you let me finish?!" Neo glared, "I didn't kidnap the kid. He fell out of the sky on me. He didn't know that the man was his father. So either the man doesn't know that he exists. Or..."
Or he abandoned Oscar. Roman didn't want to believe that but it was possible. Out of everyone he expected better of Ozpin.
...
A ping from his scroll caught Ozpins's attention. It was a notification of someone checking his blood against something. Frowning he brought up the notification. Then all he could do was blink at it.
A positive blood test for a child. It says that he was the father of a child he never met. Oscar Pine a child of eleven years old. Eleven years... oh. Oh no.
Thirteen years ago he had gone to a small village in Mistral. Where he dated and fell in love. If it wasn't for his duties he might have stayed. Anna had not wanted to leave behind her family. In the end, he had to leave her behind.
Bringing up the Pine family information he felt pain. Anna had been dead for a few years now. Grim attacked their farm and killed Anna and her husband. They had also injured the child severely.
Ozpin swallowed as he realized that Anna had married the Pine adult a few months after Ozpin returned to Beacon. She must have found out that she was pregnant.
Why hadn't she called him? Did she think that he wouldn't care about his child?
Wait who did the blood test? Oscar should still be in Mistral with his aunt. Ozpin brought up the information only for it not to come up. His frown darkened as he tried to get information from it.
Very little could be found with his computer skills, however. All he knew was that it came from somewhere in Vale. By someone with a significant amount of computer skills.
