"Alfred!" A seven year old Dick Grayson called when he got home from school.

"Here I am sir." Alfred said coming from the kitchen.

"Can I talk to you privately?"

"Of course sir. Come into the kitchen." Alfred led Dick into the kitchen and sat him on the stool. "Now, what did you need to talk about sir?"

"What does daddy like?"

"I'm afraid I don't understand sir."

"What does daddy want for his birthday?"

"Oh I see sir. Well I'm sure he'll love whatever you give him."

"Yeah but I want it to be perfect."

"Well sir, I might have an idea. When Master Bruce was about your age, his favorite movie was 'The Legend of Zorro'. He loved it so much that Master Bruce's father took him to see it three times."

"Wow! He must really have liked that movie."

"Indeed he did. If I remember correctly, I saw a special edition at the store. If you want me to I'll get it for you."

"Yes! Thank you thank you thank you Alfred." The boy said hugging the butler.

"You are most welcome sir, now why don't you go outside and play." He said after hugging the boy back.

"Alrighty!" He said cheerfully and went outside to play.

One hour later

The Wayne heir was in the middle of playing Batman and Robin when a familiar horn beeped. "Bruce!" He shouted and ran towards the car pulling up. Bruce came out of his car just in time to catch his flying ward.

"Hi Dickie. Why are you so happy?"

"Cause you're home!"

"Did you think I wasn't going to come home?" Bruce asked a little worried.

"No, I just love when you come home."

"So I can be with my favorite person in the world?" Bruce asked.

"Aw Bruce." Dick said embarrassed.

"But it's true." Bruce said putting him down. "How about we spend the rest of the night together?"

"We should do that tomorrow. It is your birthday after all."

"You're right. That way we can spend all day together; but we can still watch movies all night."

"Okay."

"Master Dick? Come here sir."

"Coming." Dick said. "I'll be right back Bruce."

"Alright." Dick then met Alfred in the kitchen.

"Here you are young sir." Alfred said handing the special edition of Zorro.

"Thank you Alfred!" Dick said hugging the butler again. "Do you have a birthday bag?"

"I do sir." Alfred then gave him a small Batman gift bag. "This is perfect Alfred!" Dick said.

"Now go hide the bag sir."

"Okay." Dick said. Dick started running out of the kitchen. He then ran down the main hall and bumped into Bruce.

"Oh sorry kiddo; what do you have there?"

"I…uh…it." Dick then had tears in his eyes.

"What's wrong Dickie? What happened?" Bruce said getting down to his eye-level and hugging him.

"It's your birthday present. I was gonna give it to you to surprise you."

"Oh Dickie, is that all you're worried about? It's alright; I can still open it tomorrow."

"No, you have to open it now because it won't be a surprise."

"Are you sure? I can still open it and act surprised."

"No, it won't be the same. Here." Dick said handing Bruce the Batman package. Bruce took out the yellow tissue paper and took out the special edition of Zorro.

"Dickie…"

"It's bad isn't it?"

"Dick this is the…best gift I've ever gotten!" Bruce said picking up and spinning him around. "This was my favorite movie as a kid. How did you know?"

"Alfred helped me. So you really do like it?"

"I love it Dick. Thank you so much." Bruce said hugging him tightly. "Let's watch it." Bruce said.

"Okay." After dinner, Dick gets into his pajamas and they both watched The Legend of Zorro." By the time the movie was over, Dick fell fast asleep on Bruce's shoulders. Bruce then got up and carried him to bed.

"Goodnight Dickie, Thank you for the movie."

Outside the manor, a man had watched the entire scene with the two Waynes'. 'How can Wayne have feelings for some gypsy? Yet he treats me like trash. I have ideas that will make Wayne Enterprises go up in history. I guess I'll have to persuade him to listen to me.' An hour later, everyone was asleep in the house. That gave him enough time to climb on a tree and jump to the window that he knew Wayne's young ward was sleeping. Quickly he got out a device, punched in a few numbers, and the alarm system turned off. Then he opened the window and went over to the young boy sleeping on his bed sucking his thumb. He then took at a bottle of chloroform and put in on a rag. Suddenly the little boy woke up and noticed the man in his room but before he could scream, the rag was placed in over his face and fell into a deep sleep. The man then carried the boy outside and into his car driving away.

The Next Morning

"Rise and Shine Master Dick." Alfred said coming in. He came over and opened the curtains noticing that the window was left open a little. 'That's strange.' The butler thought. 'Master Bruce would never leave the young master's window open at night.' He then went over to the boy's bed. "Master Dick? It's time to wake up sir." He said shaking the blankets. He then lifted the blankets to nothing but bunched up sheets. "Master Dick? Where are you sir?" Alfred called. No answer came. Alfred then ran downstairs to try and look for the young child. He then ran into the kitchen where Bruce was eating breakfast. "Master Bruce! Thank goodness you're here. I can't find Master Dick anywhere."

"What? Are you sure?" Bruce said getting up.

"Yes sir. He's not in his room and the window was left open." Bruce then ran up to Dick's room to examine the opened window. Bruce knew right away that someone had broken into Wayne Manor and taken his baby boy. Suddenly his cell rang. Oddly it was Lucius calling.

"Lucius?"

"Bruce! You have to come down here right away!"

"I'm kind of busy right now."

"You don't understand. It's about Dickie." Bruce froze.

"How did…?"

"No time, just get here right now!"

"Lucius I don't have time for games."

"This isn't a game. We just got a call from the man who kidnapped Dick." Bruce thought about it for a quick second.

"Alright. I'll be right there." Bruce said and hung up. "Alfred…"

"Right away sir." He said obviously listening to the whole conversation. Quickly Alfred drove Bruce to Wayne Enterprises and hoped that he would see his boy again soon. As soon as he got in the building his secretary told him that everyone was in the meeting room waiting. Walking in, everyone was sitting in their seats waiting.

"Good you're here." Lucius said.

"What's this about?"

"We just received this message." Lucius said pulling up an e-mail. This message is for Bruce Wayne. First off Happy Birthday; Hope you have a good day. Second, you may have noticed that your kid is missing. I will contact you at noon. You call the cops or your good friend Batman, and the kid dies instantly. Have a good birthday. Bruce looked at his watch; it was still a good hour before the kidnappers would call.

"Mr. Wayne! Mr. Wayne!" A man called bursting in.

"Mr. Gray! Mr. Wayne is in the middle of a family crisis." A lady said.

"This will only take a second. Mr. Wayne I have a demonstration to show you."

"She's right Mr. Gray. This will have to wait for another time." Bruce said trying to trace the email. "My son has been kidnapped." Mr. Gray suddenly looked shocked.

"Oh my gosh! This is terrible! Maybe my demonstration will help. It allows…"

"Mr. Gray please!" Lucius said. "Unless your invention will help us track down Richard then you'll have to wait."

"It will." Mr. Gray then lifted a box onto the table.

"I'm sorry Mr. Gray but I don't have time for a demonstration." Bruce said.

"Oh ok. Gonna try and intimidate me will ya? Will if you don't want to listen to my ideas, then I'll take them elsewhere. You'll regret not listening to me Wayne!" He said and stormed out. An hour later the phone rang. Everyone stared at the phone for a minute until Lucius gave the okay to pick up the phone.

"Wayne speaking."

"Hello Mr. Wayne."

"Who are you? What have you done with my son?"

"Your son? Oh yes, your 'ward' is safe for now; the rest is up to you."

"What do you want?"

"I want one million dollars wired to my account by 5:00 or else you'll need to look for a new ward."

"How do I know that you eve have my son?"

"Want proof? Say hi to daddy kid."

"Daddy?"

"Dickie? Are you alright?"

"I'm okay; but daddy I'm scared. He has a gun and he hurt me…" Dick couldn't say anymore.

"Shhhhh, everything is gonna be alright Dick. I'll have you home as soon as I can."

"Good, I'll send you the link."

"I swear, when I get my hands on you…" Suddenly Dick screamed out in pain.

"Dick! Leave him alone you ba*****!" Bruce screamed but all he could do was listen while his little boy screamed in pain.

"5:00 Wayne. Have a nice birthday." The man said and disconnected the phone. Lucius then took the phone from his hand and made Bruce sit down.

"Lucius?"

"He wasn't on the line long enough." Lucius said and Bruce put his face in his hands.

"I have to get home to collect the money."

"Of course Bruce." Lucius said. Bruce then got up and left. On the way back home, Bruce got a phone call.

"What do you want Clark?"

"Bruce, I was wondering if you could..."

"I've very busy Clark."

"This is an emergency Bruce."

"More important than Dick?"

"What?"

"Dick's been kidnapped."

"What?! Why haven't you called the League?"

"I can handle this myself."

"No you can't. Bruce let us help you."

"No. If he finds out that I called for help from the league, not only would Dick be killed but he could make the connection that Bruce Wayne is Batman."

"Fair enough, but I could try and help track him down; X-ray vision." Clark said.

"Are you listening to me?! I said no! I find out you tried anything, I swear I'll shove kryptonite down your throat!"

"Whatever Bruce." Clark said and hung up.

Break*Break*Break

"Did you enjoy your little talk with Daddy?" The man asked. Dick whimpered in pain. "Awwww, did I hurt the little baby? Don't worry, in a few hours all of this will be over and you will be with mommy and daddy again."

"I-I wanna g-go h-home." Dick sobbed.

"You'll go to your new home in a few hours after I make your father pay." He then left Dick on the verge of unconsciousness.

Break*Break*Break

Bruce had been in the Batcave for the past two hours looking for any signs of his boy. Alfred then came in with a cake with a single candle. "Happy Birthday sir."

"It's not so happy." Bruce said never looking away from the computer screen.

"You will find him sir. I know you won't give up until we have him back."

"Of course I won't. I'm just afraid it will be too late."

"Don't think like that sir. He will come home safe and when he does, we can all celebrate your birthday properly."

"Thanks old friend." Bruce said and went over to the birthday cake.

"Make a wish." Alfred said. Bruce closed his eyes, silently made his wish, and blew out the candle. He then went back to work on the Bat-computer.

"Sir, might I remind you that Bruce Wayne has his birthday party to attend at 5:00."

"I'm not going. Unless Dick is found, I'm never going to another party again."

4:45 pm

Clark not afraid of Bruce went ahead and started looking for Dick.

"Mom can we order pizza?"

"Lacy will you marry me?"

"Daddy."

"Don't you ever scare me like that again!" Clark then went back to the little voice he heard. Listening close he could tell it was a boy around Dick's age and could tell he was scared to death. He then went to one of the worst places to live on the edge of Gotham City. He then used his x-ray vision to find a small body not moving. "Hang on Dickie. Uncle Clark is coming."

Meanwhile

Bruce was now terrified. He now had five minutes to transfer the money to the man's account. Suddenly a message came up on the screen. 'This account has been terminated. Please enter another account.' Bruce then started having a panic attack. "No!" Bruce screamed.

"Master Bruce! What's the matter?"

"The account! It won't transfer the funds!" Bruce said. Alfred looked and too looked terrified. Bruce quickly looked at the clock.

4:57

Quickly he turned on the Bat-tracker to try to find anything he could about Dick's whereabouts. Suddenly the phone rang.

"Wayne Residents." Alfred said quickly…"Sir! Master Clark has found Master Dick!"

"Where?!"

"Junction row sir." Bruce now Batman jumped into the car and went over 200mph towards Junction row.

Break*Break*Break

5:00

"Well Dick, your father has failed to save you. It is time I put you out of your misery." The man said aiming a gun at Dick. "Now with you out of the way, Mr. Wayne will regret not wanting to listen to my ideas." The man then stepped into the light for the first time to revile.

"M-Mr. Gray?" Dick asked weakly.

"At your service." He said.

"W-why did you..?"

"Why? Because your father treated me like trash. I deserve the respect that you get. Now it's time to end you." Mr. Gray then put the safety off the gun and fired…

...

(You know I won't do that)

Just as he fired the gun, Superman flew in and knocked the gun out of the man's hand. He then started to punch and kick him. Just afterwards, Batman jumped in. As soon as he saw Dick who was covered in bruises, he immediately looked the man who had kidnapped him. He was shocked to see Mr. Gray was the one responsible. Quickly he went over and started beating him with little mercy.

"Stop!" Superman said pulling him back.

"Why?! Why should I let this ba***** live after what he did to him?!" Batman shouted.

"Because Dick needs you more." Batman took a deep breath and put handcuffs on him. "I'll get rid of him." Superman said and flew out. As soon as he was gone, he pulled down his cowl and went over towards his broken son.

"Oh Dickie. Are you alright?" Dick got up slowly and sobbed into his father's chest. "It's okay, I'm here now. He won't hurt you anymore."

An hour later at the Gotham City Reception hall:

"HE'S HERE!" Someone screamed and ten girls went towards the limo.

"Hey Bruce. Happy…" Suddenly Harvey Dent came out of the limo.

"Where is he? He's over two hours late to his own Birthday party." A girl said.

"Bruce Wayne told me to tell you that he isn't able to attend but thanks everyone for coming." Harvey said.

"What do you mean he's not coming? Where is he?"

Gotham Diner, Downtown Gotham:

"Something on your mind Dick?" Bruce asked.

"No, it's just…I'm sorry I ruined your birthday." Dick said shedding a few tears.

"What are you talking about Dick? You didn't ruin my birthday."

"But I got kidnapped and you spent all day looking for me. You didn't really get a chance to celebrate because of me." Bruce then came over and cupped the boy's face.

"Dick how could I celebrate my birthday without you? It wouldn't be a happy birthday without you." Dick still didn't look convinced. "Do you know what the best part of today was?" Dick shook his head. "I got the best birthday present in the entire world today. You." Dick then launched into his father's chest to give him a big hug.

"Happy Birthday Mr. Wayne." The waitress said bringing out a chocolate cake with two candles on it.

"Help me?" Bruce asked. Dick nodded and both blew out the candles.

"Did you make a wish?" Dick asked.

"Yup; and it already came true."
