Ch11

Chrysaor sighed as he looked up at the Empire State Building. Well all this was a splendid quest. They had made the trip back to New York by airplane with apprehension as neither of them had flown before and now his brother was finishing his quest.

Hopefully all goes well with him. Percy wanted him to join him since they were both Poseidon's kids but he figured it would be best to wait down here since Zeus might still be irritated at him. Grover on the other hand had returned to camp while he decided to wait for Percy.

"You didn't do too bad," said a familiar cocky voice.

He turned around and saw Triton in his human form walk up to him. His older brother wore a dark jacket and long blue pants. "Yeah we are alive," he said gripping his fists. "Could've used your help a few times but we managed."

Triton chuckled, "I was tempted to join the fight against Lord Ares but you all did well without help."

"So what brings you here?" He asked.

Triton walked up to him and looked up at the sky, "Father told me he won't be able to see you right now but he wanted to let you know that he was pleased by your quest and for looking after our younger brother."

"Percy wasn't half bad this quest," he said looking up at the sky. "He will definitely be a great hero."

"How do you feel about that?" Triton asked.

"Well I did get a piece of the action during this quest so I'm happy," he said looking at his brother. "I have a feeling that the Fates have a lot in store for Percy, so I'll do my best to keep him safe and guide him when necessary. Don't get me wrong I still want the glory but this quest made me fond of Percy." He is definitely an improvement over you personality wise.

"Well good thing you both get along father would be very upset with you if something happened with him," Triton said as thunder rumbled over ahead. "Anyway just to let you know I may train Percy in the future."

"Really?" He asked. Are you going to shame or something?

"Father wants me to be a good older sibling," Triton said rolling his eyes. "So I figure I might as well teach you guys or something."

"Percy would like that but don't be dick to him," he said. Percy was a nice guy and didn't deserve Triton's snobbery.

Triton laughed, "Don't worry I won't harm our father's new favorite child." There was a hint of coldness in his voice but Triton just turned around and disappeared in a flash of light.

He turned to the entrance of the Empire State Building and saw Percy come out with wide eyes. "How did it go?" He asked.

"I'll tell you later but my mom is back," Percy said as he took the baseball cap and gave it to him. "I forgot to give this to Grover can you give it back to Annabeth, I have to take care of some things with my mom."

"You could give it to her yourself," he said. "From what I hear your step father is a piece of crap you may need it for a speedy getaway or something."

Percy looked at him and nodded, "Yeah I guess you're right. Well see you at camp, I really enjoyed working with you on this quest."

"You too," he said smiling at his brother. "I haven't had this much fun in a while." He went up and patted Percy on the shoulder, "We are siblings we should look after each other. Whether at camp or outside of it, I will be there to look after you."

Percy smiled at him and to his surprise hugged him, "Thanks. I know you are a private person but I would like you to meet my mother sometime. We've only known each other this summer but I'm glad that we met."

He smiled at his brother and hugged him back. "Thanks little brother." The two sons of Poseidon hugged each other tightly before pulling back. "Now go back to your mother, if you need help with your stepfather I could say hi."

Percy laughed, "Thanks but I have my own idea of what to do with him. Anyway see you at camp." His brother smiled at him before turning around and leaving.

By the time he arrived at camp everyone was celebrating their completion of the quest. For commemoration they each got a bead for their first summer, the blue bead had two golden tridents with their initials on the side. Percy came back not long after he did with a neutral expression on his face and collapsed on his bed as soon as he returned to the cabin.

"How was your mom?" He asked as Percy sat up and stretched.

Percy smiled at him, "She is great. I don't think my stepfather will be bothering us anymore."

"That's good. So how does it feel to have completed your first prophecy?" He asked.

"I'm just glad to be alive," Percy said as he frowned at the ceiling. "I just don't know if it's completely over."

"What do you mean? You brought back the lightning bolt, returned the Hades' helm, and saved your mom. What could you have missed?" He asked.

Percy shifted in his bed, "I'm supposed to be betrayed by the one I called a friend. I honestly don't know who would betray me, I don't think it was Ares either."

He frowned at Percy, "Well I wouldn't betray you and neither would Grover. Who else has gotten close to you during your short time here that could be a friend by the loosest definition?"

Percy rubbed his head his brow furrowing as if working on a complex puzzle. "That would be either Annabeth or Luke."

"Well my personal feelings for the children of Athena aside she has been distant with us but she doesn't seem like the type to kill you," he said folding his arms. "Wait. Do you remember those shoes Luke gave you? The ones that nearly through Grover into Tartarus?"

Percy nodded, "Yeah what about them?"

"Luke gave them to you. If you wore them you would've been thrown into Tartarus," he said as he watched the realization spread across Percy's face.

"Why would he kill me though?" Percy said in surprise.

"We could get an answer out of him but we have to be careful," he said scratching his chin. "Luke is very popular here and has many friends."

Percy nodded, "We have to be careful around him and Annabeth since she is close to him. Let's plan something, Grover can even help us."

"I've dealt with many snakes in my life we have to be very careful," he said as he took out his golden pen and gripped it tightly.

Percy smiled at him, "Relax we are the sons of Poseidon we can do anything together." He smiled at Percy and the two laughed together.

Annabeth walked up and sat down next to Luke at their usual spot as they stared up at the stars. "Are you really going to leave?" She asked softly. It was a question she still couldn't believe but as the summer was drawing to a close the fact of the matter was that Luke was going to leave.

"I am," Luke said frankly. He turned to face her; his expression was more gaunt than usual. "This summer has been really hectic hasn't it?"

She nodded. When the sons of Poseidon and Grover returned successfully the entire camp celebrated. She hadn't really spoken with Percy or Grover since she still felt some resentment over not going on the quest. I'm happy for them, they got to go on a quest and do something important. Still between not getting to go, her hat still not appearing, and Luke leaving she hadn't been in the mood for talking with other people.

"Have you made up your mind about traveling with me?" Luke asked. "You could come back next summer, I could use the help."

Luke wrapped an arm around her and her face turned red. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to travel with you for a year and then come back." The words came out of her mouth before she could even process them. She almost took them back but the way Luke smiled at her made her not want to say anything.

"Great. You don't have to tell anyone I'll work things out for us," Luke said with a faint smile. "Chiron would only worry and would probably forbid it." He cupped her chin and smiled at her. "Chiron worries a lot but I know you can handle a lot of things on your own, I'll deal with him I promise."

There was an urgency in Luke's words but she didn't question it. Her heart raced, she would be leaving camp for the first time in ages and would be with Luke. She would be traveling with him and they would be a family just like the old days.

"Fine when do we leave?" She asked the words came out of her mouth before she could even think of them.

"Can you gather your things tonight and make it discreet?" Luke asked urgently

"Uh sure but this is pretty quick don't you think?" She asked.

"I've planned for a while to leave camp," Luke said as a small grin spread across his face. "I always knew you would want to tag along with me so I planned accordingly."

"Fine I'll get ready," she said getting up.

Luke got up and hugged, "Be quick now. We'll meet in a few hours."

She nodded as Luke told her where to meet up later. Her heart raced quickly as she turned around and headed back to her cabin. I'm going out with Luke, we are going traveling together. The idea of showing Luke what she could do and traveling alongside him made her insides feel like a cage of butterflies had been released inside.

In her cabin, she discreetly packed her essential belongings into a backpack which she hid beneath her bed. For the rest of the evening she did her best to lay low. During dinner, she saw Chiron speak with Grover intently while the two sons of Poseidon calmly ate their food. She looked for Luke but he was nowhere to be seen among his siblings.

For a moment she thought Luke had aborted the plan, that was until she walked towards the meeting point and found him there. "So what now?" She asked.

Luke's gaze dashed furtively around his face seemed much more haggard than before. "There is a portal up head from a friend that will take us away from here."

"A portal?" She asked. "What do you mean by that?"

Luke nodded, "I can't explain it now. I have to deal with something quickly I'll be right back." She noticed his eyes fidgeting and eyeing his surroundings carefully, he was on edge even more so than these past few days.

"Wait what do you mean?" She asked taken aback by Luke's demeanor. "Luke what's going on? You're acting weird."

Luke sighed, "I'm sorry. I have a score I have to settle before I leave, promise me you'll wait here ok?"

Looking into his tired eyes she saw many emotions but she nodded, "A-Alright I promise."

"Great I'll be right back," Luke said as he ruffled her hair and ran off into the woods

Percy took a deep breath, his heart was racing in his chest as he went over the plan with Grover and Chris. Grover took a bit of convincing but he knew that something was off about Luke and agreed to help them.

"I'll scout from the river," Chris said. "Just get him talking and I'll expose him to the camp with an Iris message."

Grover nodded, "Chiron is in the Big House. I'll gather the other cabin heads, are you both sure this will work?"

"It will," he said firmly. "Those shoes were no accident, he tried to give them to me and send me to Tartarus." At first he thought the idea was crazy but Chris was right those shoes were too coincidental. Tonight lets get some answers.

Grover nodded, "Well if you believe he had something to do with it I'll help you."

"Thanks man," he said with a smile. "I know you are close with Luke but I'm glad you trust me enough to do this." Grover smiled at him and nodded.

"Alright let's get going. Luke will be suspicious if you take too long," Chris said.

With that Grover headed off to the Big House while Chris tailed him from behind. Once they entered the forest Chris quickly ran to the River and concealed himself in the water. Alright I got this. He noticed the water slowly come from the river and envelope the soles of his shoes, he noticed the water trickle around his feet more and more with every step.

Eventually he found the son of Hermes in a secluded area with his sword in his hand. "Hey Luke you wanted to see me?"

The son of Hermes' face looked tired and fatigued as he turned to face him. Luke's gaze was no longer friendly. "Hello Percy nice night huh?"

"Yeah so what did you want to talk to me about?" He gripped Riptide in his pocket, he noticed the water slowly forming around his feet. Taking a deep breath he willed it to be ready for him to act.

Luke drew his sword, "Like it? I call it Backbiter, it can harm mortals and monsters. A new age will come Percy, a new age without the gods."

He carefully eyed the sword, Luke looked at him and charged at him. Oh no you don't. He willed the water that was around his feet at Luke to push Luke back.

The son of Hermes stared at him in shock as he drew Riptide and pointed it at him. "It was you wasn't it?" said gripping his sword. "You let the hellhounds into camp and stole Zeus's bolt! You gave me those shoes to kill me right?" "

Luke laughed, "Guilty as charged. Do you think you can take me? You weren't as good as your brother in a sword fight. I could take you here and now."

"I'm strong enough to fight you. After all, I made it back here alive," He said taking a deep breath he met Luke's gaze. "So how did you and Kronos dupe Ares to work for you?

Luke laughed, "Like it was that hard. Yes I helped steal the bolt yes I brought the hell hound into camp to kill you and your brother. You'd be surprised at those that are helping me make Kronos's vision a reality."

The son of Hermes' expression was dark as he told all of his deeds to him. "The gods are always oppressing humanity," Luke declared as he pointed his sword at Percy. "Kronos will bring in a new age for humanity. Sorry Percy but you won't live to see this new age." Pointing Backbiter to him his gaze darkened, "Me and my allies will help raise Kronos and bring a new world.

Luke then charged at him with his sword, he was prepared to counter when Chris leaped from the water. Luke was pushed to the ground by the water as his brother pointed his sword at him.

"You honestly think I would've let you near my brother alone?" Chris said pointing his sword at his throat

"Thank," he said looking down at Luke. "It's over Luke."

Luke glared at them picking up his sword, "You'll pay for that."

Chris removed his glasses and looked Luke in the eyes, "You'll pay for your treachery."

Luke's eyes widened as he tried to move but his brother's gaze kept him paralyzed. "Percy I have to maintain eye contact with him, restrain him."

He quickly took the sword from Luke's hand and tossed it far away before forcing him onto his knees. "Now then I wouldn't move, the gods would want you alive," Chris said walking up to the son of Hermes and placing his blade at his throat. He managed to put him to his knees, scanning the area he saw an Iris message with Chiron, Grover, and most of the other camp councilors staring in shock.

Good one Chris. They had planned the Iris message to show the camp if Luke really did what he did, it was a gamble but it paid off. He looked at Chiron and the other councilors, they all looked surprised and shocked, though something was rubbing him the wrong way. Annabeth isn't there. Maybe Grover couldn't find her or something? He didn't have time to dwell on it he had to restrain Luke.

"Don't move now," he said as he began to restrain Luke's hands with water willing it to form a chair around his arms. Gripping Riptide he held it to the back of Luke's neck. "We'll be taking you back now."

"Luke!" Screamed a voice from behind them. Chris snapped his head up breaking eye contact with Luke to see Annabeth daughter of Athena staring at them with a shocked expression.

"Annabeth run!" Luke screamed frantically turning his head to her. "They're going to kill me. You have to get out of here run!"

"Get away from him," Annabeth yelled as she charged at them with her knife in hand her eyes dark with fury.

He tried to call out to her. "Wait Annabeth it's not what it looks like."

It happened quickly. Luke quickly got up and pushed him to the ground as Chris raised his sword to try try and stop him. Annabeth charged at him with her dagger as he got up and was about to tell her what was happening when the daughter of Athena plunged her dagger into his gut. It took him a moment to realize what happened, at first he believe what happened that was until he coughed up blood, he watched Annabeth's shocked expression as Luke grabbed her hand.

"Percy!" Chris yelled as he ran to help him.

Annabeth stared at them in shock, "Percy I didn't-"

"Annabeth come on we got to get out of here!" Luke yelled. as he grabbed her by the hand and the two ran as Chris willed the water to attack them

His vision became blurry as he saw rumbling in the ground, a scorpion emerged from the ground and lunged at him. "Percy look out!" Chris yelled.

A large scorpion lunged from the ground and before he could react stabbed his leg. "Chris they're getting away," He said weakly as his vision blurred and he blacked out. The only thing he was aware of was his brother screaming his name as he brought him to the river, and then he blacked out.

When he woke up he realized he was in the infirmary, his insides feeling like they had been scrambled, frozen, and heated up. "You're awake thank gods," Chris said.

"Percy you scared us," Grover said hugging him tightly. "I can't believe you were right about Luke."

Turning around he saw his brother resting on a chair with Grover next to him. "Here have some blue coke," Chris said handing him some glass.

He smiled at him and took the coke. "Thanks man did you get them?"

Chris frowned and shook his head. "No I had to prioritize you. That scorpion's venom was deadly you barely survived it. The camp saw and heard everything and quickly came to help you. However, by the time they came, Luke and Annabeth were gone."

"Man I can't believe we were right about Luke," he said rubbing his head. "I didn't expect Annabeth though. "

Grover's face saddened, "They were close but I didn't think they would betray the gods. Especially Annabeth, when I was getting all the counselors I was told she was going out for a walk."

"Damn Them to Tartarus," Chris muttered. He looked down and Luke's sword Backbiter by his side. "Yeah he left this, pretty cool huh? You can borrow it when you need it."

"Thanks," he said as Chiron entered the room.

"Hello Percy how are you recovering?" The centaur asked his eyes had bags underneath them and his demeanor was solemn.

"Fine. Any news on Annabeth and Luke?" he asked.

Chiron shook his head, his eyes had bags under them his expression was troubled, "I did not. There was no trace of either of them, I fear they had accomplices who helped them escape."

"I never would've expected them to do those things," Grover said shaking his head. "Especially Annabeth. She would never just turn against the gods."

"Anyone can be tempted," Chris said folding his arms. "You just need the right price."

Chiron looked down and sighed, "For now lets just focus on things here." The centaur turned to both of them. "Do you both wish to remain here year round or return home?"

"I'll stay I don't have much else to do," Chris said shrugging his shoulders.

"I want to return home. I want to be with my mom and experience the world outside," he said.

Chiron nodded, "We'll stay in touch don't worry."

"Thanks. Maybe we can see each other or something," he said.

Chris nodded, a crafty smile spreading across his face. "Sounds good. I don't mind training my litter brother. Besides I think Triton may want to train you too."

"Oh cool," he said as he drank his coke.

Chris chuckled, "Be aware he is a bit of a dick."

They both laughed. Sounds like a plan. Looking at Chris he couldn't help but feel closer to him, yeah he didn't know him well and he definitely had a lot of skeletons in the closet but he could make this sibling thing work.

AN: Well this ends part one. No at this point Annabeth doesn't know about Luke and Kronos all she saw was Chrysaor (who she doesn't like) Hold a sword at his throat while Percy ( who as of now in this story she isn't that close to him) was trying to hurt him so she acted more out of instinct to protect Luke. Don't worry the next chapter is her pov.

Let's just say I plan for Percy and Annabeth to have a very different relationship in this story.

Also the reason why Luke didn't summon the scorpion right away is that he thought Chrysaor would come so he used it as a backup. He ordered it to attack Percy because he knew Chrysaor would have to help him recover while if he attacked Chrysaor it may not have worked

I know this first part mirrored canon a bit but the next few arcs will diverge more and more from canon. It will be a few weeks before I update again, I'm going to revise and edit the next few chapters.
