Ch13
Percy sat in his new apartment with his mother as they finished eating breakfast together. The two talked about his time at camp and the adventures he had on his quest, minus the scary stuff of course.
"Oh Percy about this nifty baseball hat," his mother said as she took the baseball hat off the rack. "Did you say it belonged to someone else?"
He did his best to not frown, "Yeah it belonged to this girl I thought was friendly but she turned out to be working for the enemy."
"I see," his mother said as she handed it to him. "Well keep it safe, I figure you'll need it more than me."
"Thanks. I honestly don't know what to do with it," he said as he held the hat in his hands. "But I'll put it to good use."
"Oh you said you had another demigod brother right?" his mom asked snapping him out of his thoughts. "What's he like?"
"Oh Chris?" He's cool. He was originally one of dad's immortal children until he got into trouble. Now father makes him help and protect me," he said. "His real name is Chrysaor, he's alright."
He felt kind of relieved he had an older sibling to be with, though it wasn't easy since Chrysaor was such a good fighter in comparison to him. Still he seems alright I wait to get to know him some more. He always wondered what it would be like to have another sibling, but he wouldn't be able to live if his mother did it with Smelly Gabe.
"Well if he wants to I'd like to meet him sometime," his mother said with a smile
"Really?" He asked not that he had a problem with it he just thought his mother wouldn't want to meet his sibling.
His mother nodded, "Yeah of course. If he is your brother I would like to get to know him if he's alright with it of course."
"Sure I'll run it by him sometime," he said. "I plan on meeting him today along with another one of dad's immortal children."
"I see. Well just be careful as always," his mother said smiling at him.
"I will mom," he said as he helped his mom put away and clean the dishes.
When he finished helping his mom he went to his room and looked at the baseball cap one last time. I honestly still can't believe she would join Luke, though Grover said that they were close growing up. He frowned looking at the baseball cap. Still she works with Luke who tried to kill me and Grover. She helped do those bad things and helped him get away. The next time we meet we will be enemies.
He got up and looked himself in the mirror, he put on the baseball cap and saw his reflection disappear, "I have to admit this is cool." He put the cap inside his drawer before making sure Riptide was in his pocket.
Alright lets do this. He took a deep breath as he left his room, he was more excited than usual since he would be meeting Chris and most likely Triton. I wonder what they will teach me, hopefully something cool.
"Alright mom see you later," he called out as he left his room.
"Have fun dear," his mother said as he left the apartment closing the door behind him.
He walked down the streets of New York City passing by various people and vehicles until he arrived at a coffee shop not far from the beach. There he found his brother Chrysaor sitting at a table with his dark sunglasses on, he did have a face mask but wore jeans and a camp shirt. "Hey Chris how's it going?" He asked.
Chris looked up from his coffee and smiled, "Good just wanted to get some coffee. Come on lets go, Triton is waiting for us." His brother threw his coffee cup away and the two soon headed towards the beach.
"So will Triton be in a good mood?" He asked. The few times he met their elder brother he wasn't that friendly.
Chris frowned, "I'm not sure. Heads up but Triton has always been one prone to jealousy don't take it personally if he is hard on you."
"Good to know," he said as they approached the beach. He had to admit, he still was excited about learning to be a son of Poseidon from both Chrysaor and Triton.
They arrived at the beach, despite the sun and the breeze it was surprisingly vacant. They walked on the sand until they saw a figure in the distance, squinting his eyes he realized it was that Tristan guy from a long time ago.
"Hello Triton," Chris said. "This is Percy whom you already met."
"H-Hey," he said feeling Triton's intense gaze on him. He could see the resemblance to their father, Triton had dark hair and piercing eyes that looked like they could go violent at any moment.
"Well Percy Jackson I am your older brother and our father's rightful heir," Triton said folding his arms. "I have been tasked to make sure you are well trained."
I could see what Chris meant now. He only nodded looking Triton up and down, he wore a fullbody wetsuit that covered his muscles well. "I see," he said.
"Triton father wanted you to train us not remind us that you're his heir," Chris said.
Triton sighed and rolled his eyes, "I know I know you don't have to tell me twice Chrysaor." Their older brother looked at both of them with a serious expression on his face, "Father has asked that I train our younger sibling." His gaze turned hard, "Father has high expectations for you, and it's my job to make sure you meet them."
He nodded straightening his posture, he wouldn't be intimidated by this guy. Just calm down, he is father's first son he probably is stronger than both me and Chris put together especially since he is immortal. "I would appreciate your help," he said with a tight smile.
Triton only smiled at him and took a few steps back and held out his hand as a large golden trident appeared in it. "Alright now don't worry about the mortals they won't come near us," Triton said as he gripped his weapon and pointed it at them. "Both of you draw your weapons, let me see what you both got."
He drew Riptide while Chris took drew his golden sword. Triton didn't even appear phased that he was taking on two people, in fact his grin seemed even cockier. Well here I go. He charged at Triton with his sword and slashed at him.
Triton easily blocked the attack and the subsequent strikes he attempted. Damn it he's really good. Chris came in to support him from the side. Triton obviously saw him as the greater threat and put more effort into blocking Chris's attacks.
Yet despite Chris's efforts even he could not land a hit on Triton. Their eldest brother easily and effortlessly blocked their attacks. He frowned as he tried to attack Triton, his older brother's smug face was so annoying at that moment he wanted to punch it.
"Come on Jackson is that the best you got?" Triton taunted as he blocked his attack. "How about this?"
Triton moved his trident so fast he couldn't see it as the shaft hit him in the gut. He nearly dropped Riptide as the air was knocked out of him and his body was sent flying into the water. Damn I can't beat this guy, but I have to think of something. As the water enveloped him he felt his strength restored.
Controlling the water around him he propelled himself upwards and burst from the ocean. He moved the water into the shape of a fist and slammed it into Triton. However, to his dismay Triton merely pierced it with his trident and blocked his sword strike.
"Nice trick but you have a lot to learn Percy Jackson," Triton said as he kicked him to the ground.
"Percy!" Chris yelled as he went to help him up. "Lets come at him together. I'll try to hold him down you charge at him."
"We've already been doing that but ok," he said as he spat out some blood. Gripping Riptide he charged at Triton.
Triton merely smirked at them as Chris began to took off his sunglasses. Chris tried to freeze Triton but their older brother merely kicked sand in his eyes causing him to curse in pain. He didn't fare well himself as Triton easily disarmed him and tripped him to the ground pointing his trident at his chest.
"Ok we get it you're stronger than us," Chris said as Triton's trident disappeared.
To his surprise Triton offered him a hand up, "You both have a lot to learn." His eldest brother then turned to him, his eyes still cool, "Percy Jackson you do have potential to be a great son of Poseidon but you'll have to train hard for your life won't be easy."
"Th-Thanks," he said as he capped riptide.
"No problem just remember you are a son of Poseidon you should hold that title with pride," Triton said his gaze turning hard. "Never disappoint our father."
"I won't," he said firmly. "I'll do my best to train hard and make him proud."
Triton nodded his gaze calm. "Good. Now then lets continue our training. "We'll swim ten miles into the sea and back. Both of you take off your clothes."
He could feel his face redden, "Why?"
"Because they'll impede you from swimming come one," Triton said slapping his hands his wetsuit disappearing to reveal a muscular body.
"Damn exhibitionist," Chris muttered as he took his clothes off. His other brother was also pretty muscular though not as much as Triton.
Fine if this is part of the training. He took his clothes off and put them neatly on a bench next to Chris's clothes.
"Alright now focus on the water as you swim," Triton said as they approached the waves. "Try feeling the water and become one with it."
He took a deep breath and nodded as he carefully entered the water. The water felt comforting as he swam in it, being the son of Poseidon he didn't feel cold or uncomfortable as he swam. The water gave him strength, even though he had never swam this far before his body was more alive than ever.
His heart raced in his chest as he could feel the water around him, he could feel the sensation of the fishes swimming beneath the waves, the boats in the distance, and his siblings who were already farther ahead of him. He could make out Chris's shape in the water along with Triton who seemed to have changed into some kind of mermaid.
His form wasn't as good as his siblings but he still managed to reach the ten mile mark before turning back and swimming back to shore. He didn't feel tired but his heart rate was increasing and he had to focus more on his form on the way back.
By the time he arrived back on the shore Chris and Triton were already back and dressed. Triton had a bemused look on his face while Triton appeared annoyed. "Good job Percy," Triton said as he got out of the water and the fatigue hitting him like a truck nearly sending him to the ground.
"Th-Thanks," he said as he forced himself to not fall, his heart racing as he went over to get dressed. "So what now?" He still wanted to show his worth even if he felt very tired.
"I think this is enough for today little brother," Triton said folding his arms. "This was just a warm up, father requested that I train you regularly. It won't be easy but you won't have an easy life."
He met Triton's gaze and nodded. "I understand. I'll do my best to keep up." Taking a deep breath he ignored his tired body and looked up at Triton. "I want to get stronger, I don't want to let our father down and I want to protect those that I care about."
Triton raised an eyebrow he saw a hint of amusement in his gaze. "Very well. I shall make sure you are properly trained do not worry. Anyway rest well we shall train here every morning. Chrysaor and I will make sure you are prepared for your quests."
"Th-Thanks," he said. Taking a deep breath he looked out into the ocean. Dad I'll train harder to make you proud and to protect those important to me.
