Chapter-45

Sigurd

A few days later, the time had come.

Almost 1 year since we servants came to Remnant. Sigurd thought. The fall season was about to end, and Winter would set in. Coincidentally, it was also the time of the Vytal final.

It was to be Yang Xiao-Long against Pyrrha Nikos. Both Yang and Pyrrha managed to win their matches, Yang against Sun and Pyrrha against Penny, much to the dismay of the other academies, because that meant the current year's Vytal Trophy would be going to Beacon Academy again.

And while they had their match, we would be fighting our final battle against Prometheus. Sigurd thought as he watched the huntsmen train with each other in the morning along with Atlesian soldiers practicing their drills.

Sigurd knew this wasn't going to be the end. No, it was only the beginning of a long war. Against an enemy they have yet to uncover.

Prometheus should be able to shed light on the situation. Sigurd thought. They could glean information from Prometheus about who he was working with.

He found Cú sparring with Richard, the two servants stopping to greet him.

"Why hello there, Sigurd!" Richard spoke as Cú walked up.

"Today's the day." He spoke.

"Indeed it is. I do hope you're ready."

"Sure as heck. I'm ready to stick Gáe Bolg into Prometheus' face."

Sigurd let out an amused snort. "Glad to see your excitement."

"So, who are the servants we know of so far?" Richard asked.

"There is Perseus, Siegfried, the Hassan of the Hundred Faces, from what Shirou describes, Semiramis, the Dioscuri…and Mordred."

"Mordred! Well, I get to fight a knight of the Round Table." Richard spoke.

"Although, my main target would be the Hassans." He spoke.

"So, we're equal in number." Cú spoke. "Great, this shouldn't be too bad."

"Let's not forget Prometheus. He still is a divine being, even if not much of a combatant." Sigurd spoke.

"True, true. Where's snow flake, by the way?"

"Barking instructions at her troops. She'll be commanding the operation from the warship."

"Wise Choice. Even if she is pretty strong, I hardly doubt she'd be able to last long against a servant." Sigurd spoke before moving on.

Throughout the day, Sigurd inspected the huntsmen troops, testing their skills to see if they were ready, whilst conversing about the oncoming assault with other servants.

And soon, it was time. Dusk had fallen, and it was time to launch the attack. Richard and Robin, along with the huntsmen, bade goodbye to the people of Oakshire as all the servants entered the warship as it lifted up into the air, carrying a large amount of atlesian troops and huntsmen along with the servants.

The servants themselves sat in one room, all waiting in anticipation for their roles.

"So, are we all going to out to defend the exterior, or…?" Cú asked.

"Robin and Shirou will stay inside." Odysseus spoke.

"Me, Richard, Sigurd and Cú shall defend the warship on the outside. The Atlesian air force will shoot down any enemies that attempt to get close, but the ones that do land on the ship will be handled by us. Any that get inside will be left to Robin and Shirou."

After that, the servants sat in silence.

Strangely, during this moment, Sigurd decided to ponder upon Ozpin.

How did Ozpin get into contact with Odin? Sigurd thought. While he'd brushed off the issue earlier, now he was actually curious. With the advent of Ragnarök, the All-Father should have perished.

Perhaps this is an Odin of a different timeline? Sigurd thought. It wouldn't be out of question. Odin, after all, could possibly be aware of different timelines as a result of drinking from the well of Mimir.

But that does not explain his sudden interest in Remnant. Which also begs the question of the Nornir sending me here. Why would they be interested in the humanity of another world? Was it actually the reason for servants coming into remnant, or was there something deeper going on? Sigurd thought.

The only person who could give him these answers would be Ozpin himself, seeing as he now had a connection to Odin.

I will look into that after this is done. Sigurd thought.

Soon, a voice came through the intercom.

"We are approaching the location. All units, commence moving into formation." The voice spoke.

"There, we should now go to Winter." Odysseus spoke as the servants got up and walked to the command room, where Winter was standing with a bunch of personnel operating the warship on their panels.

"Ah, you're here." Winter spoke. "I trust you are ready?"

The servants nodded. "We've decided to keep some of our own within the ship to prevent any break-ins while the others will be on the bridge to prevent any attackers coming on the top."

Winter nodded. "Then I suggest you go immediately. Whoever will be staying inside should guard the bay area where the bomb is being kept." She spoke as the servants nodded and walked off.

Robin and Shirou walked away from the group and towards the bay area.

This is it. Shirou thought as a bead of sweat rolled down his head.

He looked at Robin who was walking beside him in a calm manner, and thought of their discussion a few days back.

Shirou had thought about it, but he still was confused on what choice he was to make. They reached the bay area, where Shirou could see the massive Atlas Bomb being over the bay doors along with a number of atlesian troops and huntsmen.

"Still something troubling your mind?" Robin asked as Shirou shook his head.

"Nothing." He spoke before unsheathing his katana and taking a deep breath.

"Let us end this long battle." Shirou spoke.

And pray I have the courage to do what I must do. He thought.

"Milord, they are here." Perseus spoke, standing in Prometheus' workshop. After days, he'd actually been allowed inside to talk to Prometheus.

"They are? Good. The Will has already departed for Mount Glenn to make the modifications to the Wyvern. Which means, we'll have to get enough of our forces on that warship."

Huh, his voice sounds different. Perseus thought.

"Um, but you said there will be…"

"Send in our own servants then. Mordred has already left for her part of the mission - I do hope she can get it done without getting caught - so we still have a few remaining."

"And what about you, Milord?" Perseus asked before heavy footsteps echoed around the workshop as Prometheus emerged.

What the…? Perseus thought as he stared at what was in front of him.

"...This is what you've been working on?" Perseus spoke in shock as Prometheus chuckled.

"Of course, I need to be prepared to, don't I?"

"B-But where did you get the…?"

"Thank the Will for that. He certainly wasn't joking when he said he'd collected a lot of materials. Ah, I haven't felt like this for thousands of years. Now go Perseus, tell our own servants to get ready for 'defense' of the base."

"A-As you say, milord." Perseus spoke before walking out of the workshop.

Of all the things Perseus expected, he actually didn't think Prometheus would go that far.

Good luck dealing with this. He thought. He soon reached the spot, where the other servants were waiting. Salem had been kind enough to bring some of the more unique grimm that lived beyond the mountains.

"Alright, here we go." Perseus spoke.

"Here we go, ladies and gents!" Cú exclaimed with his arms around the shaft of his spear as he, Sigurd, Richard and Odysseus stood on top of the warship, looking at the atlesian bullheads flying nearby.

All was quiet except for the fleet moving forwards, before Sigurd heard the distant shrieks of nevermores and Stymphalian birds as said creatures appeared.

The Atlesian air force immediately sprang into formation, as fighters went in, firing missiles at the flock heading towards the warship.

The stymphalian birds shrieked as they fired back their own explosive feathers that exploded against the hard-light shields of the fighters, as soon the entire sky was filled with Atlesian fighters engaging with the aerial grimm and phantasmals.

The servants watched closely as some of the nevermores were carrying other grimm in their claws and dropping them onto the bridge of the ship.

Alongside them, Cú also noticed Faoladh warriors sitting atop the Stymphalian birds, armed with bows.

"Sigurd!" Odysseus called as Sigurd immediately inscribed an Algiz rune, putting up a protective shield as the Faoladh archer let loose lightning arrows that struck against their shield.

A huntsman with a sword immediately dropped onto the stympahlian bird, decapitating the Faoladh warriors before hopping onto a never more and stabbing his sword through its skull, guiding the nevermore away as more huntsmen came in to help the servants against the Faoladh archers.

Sigurd's mask came on as he dashed out of the Algiz shield, drawing upon his draconic core before slamming his hand down to the ground.

"TIWAZ!" He chanted inscribing the rune as the effect of the rune was channeled outwards to reinforce the huntsmen, who found themselves getting stronger and faster.

Sigurd needed to get into the air, and he had the perfect opportunity for that. Sigurd headed towards a stymphalian bird with Faoladh archers who shot arrows at him.

The arrows bounced off Sigurd's armor as he brought out Ridill and Hrotti, before jumping up to land on the Stymphalian bird. Sigurd quickly cut down the archers before grabbing the Stymphalian bird's head.

The Stymphalian bird shrieked and thrashed as it attempted to throw him off.

"Nauthiz." Sigurd chanted inscribing a rune as the Stymphalian bird stopped resisting. Sigurd beckoned his new mount to fly towards the other enemies.

Bullets, missiles, flaming feathers and other projectiles flew around Sigurd as he guided his mount, bringing out Gram to cut down enemies in the air while launching his own projectiles through runes.

Sigurd spotted Odysseus fly up as well with Aegis' thrusters, using Aegis' cannons to blast energy beams that blasted grimm and phantasmals out of the air. On the ground, Sigurd spotted nevermores dropping beowolves and Ursai onto the warship along with Faoladh clad in metallic armor.

Cú and Richard rushed at these troops, with Cú impaling the Faoladh warriors with his spear while Richard cut down the grimm.

Sigurd continued cutting grimm through the air before he noticed a new enemy come up.

This was a grimm, except it was a floating round mass with red tentacles coming out of its backside, while its front opened up in hundreds of sharp teeth, while their lower jaw had a number of eyeballs on them.

Thanks to Port, Sigurd had an idea of what he was dealing with.

"A Danu." Sigurd muttered as the Danu let out a screech, its tentacles reaching into its back and throwing masses of grimm fluid at the warship that manifested into large amounts of beowolves and orthruses.

The Danu was struck by missiles from the Atlesian fighters, and roared before its body glowed with purple veins as it sent out a blast of gravity dust, knocking the Atlesian fighters out of the air.

Sigurd jumped again as the Danu's gravity surge blasted away his mount and landed on the grimm.

"Thurisaz!" Sigurd spoke before inscribing the rune on his daggers and driving it down on the Danu. Chunks of the Danu's body went flying as the Thurisaz rune blasted off a portion of its head, but the Danu kept slinging more and more globs of grimm fluid onto the warship. Sigurd swung his daggers to cut down tentacles that attempted top cut him down before he plunged down his daggers to use another Thurisaz rune.

This time, the Danu's head was completely blown off as Sigurd jumped off the falling grimm, its massive corpse hitting other grimm as it fell down.

"Oh, hi there, welcome back!" Cú spoke as he batted away the sword of a Faoladh, skewered its leg before driving his spear into a Faoladh's throat as it keeled over in pain.

"We've got new grimm coming up." Sigurd spoke as he grabbed an Ursa by the head and broke its neck, before tossing it at a bunch of Beowolves to knock them off the warship.

Sigurd then moved his head to dodge an Orthrus, whose heads elongated and snapped towards him before Sigurd dashed towards it, stabbing Ridill into one head and crushing the other with a stomp.

"Oh, well, that's not great." Richard spoke as he swung his sword to decapitate a bunch of Faoladh before deflected arrows from an archer and throwing one of the dead Faoladh's swords at the archer to impale its head.

"Indeed." Sigurd spoke before inscribing a Haglaz Rune and slicing a wave of air, smashing away a bunch of grimm fluid being flung by more Danu coming up.

"Odysseus! The Danu!" Sigurd yelled.

"On it!" Odysseus spoke flying towards the Danu, unperturbed by the Nevermore feathers bouncing off Aegis as he sent an energy blast right into the Danu's mouth, before a gravity surge from another sent him flying back.

"Gah! No wonder these creatures evolved to combat aerial technology!" Odysseus grumbled as he went to engage the Danu.

Two nevermores dropped a Deathstalker and a King Taijitu onto the warship.

"Deathstalker's yours! Richie and I'll handle the big snake!" Cú yelled.

"Richie?!" Richard exclaimed in confusion as Cú dragged him to engage the king Taijitu.

Sigurd went for the Deathstalker, reinforcing himself with an uruz rune as he sent his fist smashing into one of the Deathstalker's pincers, breaking it into pieces as its arm flew back.

Sigurd punched his daggers to pierce the Deathstalker's eyes, rendering it blind before Sigurd jumped up and drove Gram into its head, Gram's blade shattering its bone armor and piercing its head.

Sigurd heard more shrieks as Humanoid grimm formed out of a puddle sent by a Danu, each walking like an ape with their face covered by a mask with long grimm horns.

"Imps." Sigurd muttered as the Imps' charged Sigurd as a group, wrapping their arms around them as a bunch of beowolves rushed to rip him into pieces.

Sigurd twisted his body, sending the imps flying about as they crashed into the beowolves before Sigurd cut them all down with his daggers.

Meanwhile, one of the Danus exploded, spilling knockers onto the Warship.

Sigurd noticed Cú and Richard run up from the King Taijitu's corpse as Cú ran across the bridge, his spear a red blur as he executed sweeping strikes to kill the knockers as they dropped.

"Trölls!" Sigurd heard Richard exclaim as Trolls dropped onto the warship from the Danus, all raising their clubs to strike at the surface of the warship.

Sigurd blasted forwards with a mana burst from his draconic core, enchanting Gram as it sparked with lightning, stabbing a Tröll in the stomach with gram, before jumping to punch a hole through the other Tröll's head.

Sigurd suddenly felt a cold wind wash over him as frost started forming on his armor and mask. Sigurd looked back to see another Tröll breathing cold air at him.

Sigurd dashed at the troll, dodging its club before cutting off its legs with Gram and cutting off its head as it fell to the ground.

Sigurd then heard one particularly deep howl and dodged as an axe tore through where he'd just had been.

Sigurd looked around to see a much larger Faoladh, it's eyes covered by a dirty red cloth while its mouth dripped in saliva.

Black veins were spread out across the Faoladh's body, all coming from a red core glowing on its chest. From where its arms should be, four twitching grimm arms sprung out, each holding an axe enchanted with runes.

"This is new." Sigurd commented as the Faoladh sniffed the air and turned to him.

The Faoladh let out a roar, throwing its axes towards Sigurd at blistering speeds as the servant moved out of the way and charged at the Faoladh.

Sigurd punched his daggers, but the Faoladh hopped out of the way and continued charging at Sigurd.

Sigurd raised Gram to block the Faoladh's claws at the Faoladh's neck suddenly elongated to snap at him. Sigurd stepped back to dodge the Faoladh's mad snapping, its saliva dripping onto Sigurd's mask as he quickly retreated.

The Faoladh picked up its axes and madly slashed at Sigurd, its axes flying from four different directions as Sigurd blocked the hits with Gram. The Faoladh's veins suddenly wrapped around Sigurd's waist and pulled him closer as the Faoladh raised its axes.

Before it could bring them down upon Sigurd, he headbutted the Faoladh in the nose, not staggering the Faoladh as Sigurd had hoped, but stunning it enough for Sigurd to cut the tentacles off him and move back, cutting off two of the Faoladh's arms.

The grimm is severely increasing its pain tolerance. Sort of like its own version of madness enhancement. Sigurd wisdom told him. So, he needed to get that grimm out.

However, the Faoladh did not care and continued slashing at Sigurd. Sigurd slid underneath its legs and blocked its axes as it swung backwards, before jumping up to send his fist through its chest and rip out the grimm.

Sigurd jumped back as the Faoladh howled, its body twitching in a seizure as it collapse to the ground, its muscles shrinking before Sigurd came and finished it off with a stomp to its head.

"Winter! How long until we reach the base?!" Sigurd yelled into his scroll.

"We're still minutes away! You have to hold out a bit longer before we get into position!"

"Got it!" Sigurd yelled.

The warship's top had descended into a battlefield, with huntsmen rushing about slaughtering the grimm while the other servants killed Phantasmals. In the air, Odysseus and the Atlesian fighters brought down large numbers of Danu, but they just kept coming.

Sigurd heard a familiar fluttering of wings and ducked as Harpe cut the air over him.

"Perseus, so the enemy servants are finally here." Sigurd spoke as Perseus crossed his arms, hovering in front of Sigurd.

Some huntsmen charged Perseus, who cut them down with Harpe before facing Sigurd, his face bloodstained with human blood.

"So, you're finally facing me alone?" Sigurd spoke as Perseus shook his head.

"No, of course not. My job is different, I'll have the others handle this." He spoke as Cú sidestepped as Pollux, descending upon him with a sword before rolling back as Castor's discus hit the ground where he was standing.

"Finally! Some real fun!" Cú spoke with a cackle while numerous Hassans descended to surround Richard, all holding knives.

"Oh, so you finally decided to show your faces." Richard spoke, holding his sword.

Odysseus flew to the side as purple mana beams flew past him, with Semiramis lounging lazily upon an armored stymphalian bird.

"Why, hello there, care to play?" She asked with a smile.

"Honestly, you should really surrender here right now. It'll spare you from what's about to happen when Prometheus arrives."

Sigurd narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean?"

"Well, our boss has been involved in a little side-project to deal with the problem of his lack of combat proficiency. I've seen the end product, and believe me, it's not going to be pretty for you. But oh well, right now you should worry about us."

Sigurd noticed a nevermore drop a figure from the sky.

"You know who is coming." Perseus spoke as Sigurd's jaw clenched behind his mask.

So this is it. He thought as the figure landed on the warship, denting the metal he was standing on.

Siegfried faced Sigurd, his emotionless eyes staring into the blue lights of Sigurd's mask.

"Well, keep them off. I'll go deal with the Atlas Bomb." Perseus spoke before flying off.

"Good day, King Richard. Such a shame that you just had to eliminate the good Conrad in Tyre." One of the Hassans spoke.

"Oh shut it! It's all because of you we got into a sticky situation with Leopold and Henry. We will never forget the humiliation we suffered at your hands." Richard snarled.

"It was all necessary to make sure you meddling Christians did not come knocking on the doors of Masyaf. You had the wrath of Allah coming upon you for your defilement of the Holy Land."

"Oh, so this is all about carrying out the work of Allah, huh? Killing the Crusader who tried to infringe upon your faith. Well, then I'll carry out the work of God by putting all of you infidels down once and for all." Richard spoke with a scowl as the Hassans unsheathed brought out their daggers.

"Alright then, greeks, round 3?" Cú spoke with a grin as Castor scowled.

"Oh, Pollux has something really special planned out for you." Castor spoke as Pollux's eyes sparked with lightning.

"...Wait, since when did you have lightning powers?!" Cú exclaimed as Pollux raised her blade, which was glowing blue with lightning along with Castor's discus.

"Zeus Klironomia. We have had some at our disposal, and my bloodline made it easy for me to assimilate it." Pollux spoke.

"Well, as much as I hate to say it, wish me luck, Morrigan, even if you'll still remain a bitch in my eyes." Cú spoke, before Pollux dashed forward with lightning streaking behind her. Cú's spear came up to block the hit as the both of them flew off the warship, with Castor jumping after them.

Sigurd looked back at his own opponent.

"Siegfried, have you already fallen to Prometheus' control?" Sigurd asked, noticing a muscle twitch that clearly indicated Siegfried's efforts to break free.

"No need to talk. A muscle twitch is all that I need to know." Sigurd spoke.

"Kenaz." He spoke inscribing a rune as his eyes noticed something sticking onto Siegfried's brain.

No doubt a mechanical chip put on by Prometheus to induce obedience. All I need to do is make that chip malfunction and Siegfried will be free. Sigurd thought.

He spotted Cú taking his stance against the Dioscuri, Richard doing the same as he was surrounded by Hassans, while thunder rumbled as Pollux took her stance against Cú. The final clash against the enemy servants was about to begin.

Before they all went to battle, Sigurd had one question in his mind.

Where was Mordred?

A/N: ALRIGHT, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! After months of frustratingly slow progress, we are here! The Final Battle for Vale! Despite what it looks like, this battle is much longer and will now cover the rest of the Volume-3.

What we have seen in this chapter is the first part of the attack on Prometheus' base, which is the First segment of the Final battle. We still have a long way to go before this battle is over.

Anyways, here is our newest grimm type - The Danu. This bastard is that enemy unit that spawns other enemy units while also acting as an anti-air grimm, knocking off aircraft with its gravity surges. More grimm species will be revealed in the coming chapters.

We also got the Berserker Faoladh, which is getting Madness enhancement from a grimm, just to give Sigurd a bit of a problem.

And of course, we finally come to the servant matchups. Richard vs the Hassan, Cú vs the Dioscuri, Odysseus vs Semiramis and Sigurd vs Siegfried. Perseus vs Robin is next chapter.

Hope you guys enjoyed and constructive criticism is appreciated!

Response to Reviews:

Damn, it's been a while since I got a no review chapter.
