Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.
I got excited and decided to post this chapter early. Hope you enjoy it!
Note: There might be some of Naruto's memories that I created which might be confusing, but they will all be explained in due time.
The view of his old home almost brought tears to his eyes.
It had been almost 4 years since he had last seen this sight. Being the commander of the front lines during the Otsutsuki invasion didn't give him any time to properly come back to Konoha, only returning for brief moments to attend meetings with those who stayed on Earth.
Naruto stepped onto the streets. People were going about their daily tasks; a few examining the vegetables at the nearby vendor, students walking towards the academy, complaining of another day of boring lessons, and a few ninjas here and there completing missions and keeping the village safe.
His eyes wandered around and settled on the hokage monument. Hashirama and Tobirama, who he met in the 4th Shinobi War, the old man, a hint of sadness and determination as he remembered the chunin exams. He chuckled to himself as he remembered that he never actually passed any chunin exams and was directly promoted to Hokage after Momoshiki attacked.
He then stopped at the fourth face on the cliff. Bittersweet memories of his little time with his father, Minato Namikaze appeared in his mind. Unlike the other hokage, he met Minato once again after the war when he was trying to recreate the six paths sage chakra by combining the six sage modes.
Naruto still had almost 2 hours before he had to head to the academy to receive his ninja license and team assignment, so he decided to take a stroll around the village, taking in all the sights after what felt like far too long.
He walked around the village until he reached the top of the hokage cliff-face and sat down on the Yondaime's head. It had always been his favorite place in the entire village, giving a clear view of Konoha below him. This place was special. It was where he had proposed to Hina all those years ago (though now it's in the future).
~ Flashback ~
The night after the Toneri incident
Naruto and Hinata were standing on top of the hokage monument in an awkward silence. It kind of made sense, as a few hours ago, a random guy claiming to be Hamura Otsutsuki's descendant kidnapped his girlfriend and took her to the moon to marry him.
They were looking towards the serene beauty that was nighttime Konoha. The pale white moon, which would have been blown to bits by the Raikage if Kakashi hadn't intervened, let its gentle rays fall upon the village that was beginning it's slumber. They stood there in silence for what felt like hours.
Naruto, heavy in thought, exhaled and squeezed Hinata's hand which was entwined in his. Slightly alarmed, Hinata looked towards him. Naruto shifted his body to become face to face with her and prepared himself. He smiled slightly and began to speak;
"Hina, can I show you something?"
She nodded and Naruto began concentrating chakra.
'Futon: Zephyr's Grace'
The couple slowly began to rise above the ground until they stood well above the village's center.
"Hina… Even though I was too stupid to realize it sooner, you've always been quietly cheering for me. Even when I was at my worst, you saw the good in me, and accepted me for who I am…"
The gentle snow falling around them began to glow a faint orange as the first rays of the sun grace their presence.
"...You pushed past everyone's expectations and became strong, stronger than I could ever be…"
Naruto saw the dawn behind him reflect in Hinata's pearlescent irises as he could see her blush.
"I promise to love you with everything I have, to support you in all your dreams and aspirations, and to stand by you through thick and thin, from now till the end of time. You are everything to me, Hinata. Please, will you marry me?"
"Naruto-kun…" Hinata mustered the will to speak, "You are the one who gave me the courage and strength to become who I am now. I love you too, Naruto."
Naruto was pretty sure Hinata chose to have their wedding on the moon specifically to spite Toneri, and he was all for it.
I don't really know how to write romance, so forgive me if the last part was cringe.
