Hostage scene:

Stopping just behind the on-lookers, he pushed through the mob and under the tape. Carrisi caught up with him, filling him in on what's been going on. Olivia's scent caught his attention. Glancing towards the building, he picked up on six scents coming there. Two were kids, the other scents belonged to a female, Olivia, and a male. Olivia's usual scent of forest was tainted with fear. It was a scent that didn't suit her, once she should never wear. It brought back memories of Lewis.

"Barba?" Carisi had noticed the dark look in his eyes.

Snapping out of his trance, he looked up at Carrisi with a nod. "Let's go." Walking into the Command bus, he locked onto the man in cuffs. Pushing past Tucker he ignored the nasty look given to him. "Hello, Ralph. I'm assistant District Attorney Rafael Barba. So, who's 'we'?"

"Me and my sister Roxie." Ralph shrunk back by the opposing man. "Our-our mother, she-she needs a new hip. She can hardly walk."

Barba had tuned him out for a moment. 'Angelous?'

'I'm in the alleyway.'

'Any other access through the back?'

'You'd have to use the back window.'

'Again, with the glass.' Barba groaned inwardly.

'You're the one that wants to play the hero.'

"That's all on Joe."

"Joe's his real name?" Taking a seat next to Ralph he used a much less aggressive approach. This kid was shaky just by the presence of the others. "Ralph? Ralph look at me." Getting no response his annoyance began to rise. "Okay."

Everyone jumped at the sudden cry Ralph gave. Rafael had grabbed him by the back of his neck, slamming him down on the table. "Anyone dies in there and you will be going down for felony murder. Anything happens to Captain Benson and you won't get past those doors."

Fin noticed Tucker hanging up his call and making his way toward Barba. Using his body to block the man, he shook his head. In the months they have worked with the ADA, Fin had noticed a few things. One the man had a hell of a temper. He couldn't stand Amaro or Rollins, or anyone that wasn't Noah and Benson really. He also noticed the switch that happened when Benson was mentioned. He'd seen the way he reacts when she's in danger. Barba became a different person, possessive and over-protected. He may try and hide his affection for the woman, but it wasn't working for him. The squad had learned quickly enough to not get between the ADA and his captain.

After the situation with Lewis, he showed them what happens when you do.

Flashback:

"Did you call him?" Carrisi asked for the fifth time looking towards the door.

Fin sighed. "For the tenth time yes, I did. He said he was on his way."

"Why do we need him here?" Amaro grumbled.

Barba pushed the double doors open to the corridor. Giving the squad a quick glance, he walked past them and down the hallway. Following the scared scent leading him to Olivia. Without bothering to knock, he slammed the door open. Immediately he found Olivia alone in the room. Her arms wrapped around herself, trying to soothe herself. She was still covered in blood and in the same clothes from the beach house. Growling Barba shrugged his coat off, draping it over her shoulders. Crouching he pulled his handkerchief from the front pocket and used it to clean her face the best he could. She looked so broken at the moment. Moving slowly, Barba slid his hand to the back of her neck, pulling her head down on his shoulder. With a hand over her head, he gave her his shoulder to cry on. Olivia wrapped her arms around his neck holding on for dear life.

"Let's get you home." Helping her up, he gathered her things and walked her out. "Noah is staying with Lucy for the night. Give you some time to yourself."

She shook her head. "I don't want to be alone."

"I'll stay with you." That was a mistake and he knew it, but after today he'd say it was justified.

"Captain Benson, where are you going?" Tucker called after them. "We are-"

"Done." Barba snapped. "This could have waited until later."

"The fresher the better." Tucker waved Olivia back to him. "Let's go."

Barba held her still next to her. "Olivia is going home. The last thing she needs is to recount what happened to her these past hours."

"A man is missing and she was the last one to see him!" Tucker yelled. "We are doing this now." Making the mistake of trying to reach for her, ignoring the flinch coming from the woman. Tucker found himself on the ground seconds later. A pain aching across his jaw.

"You're worried about that asshole?" Barba loomed over him. "You should be thrilled he's gone."

"Did you just hit me?" Tucker taped the corner of his mouth, glaring at the blood on his fingertip.

"Touch her again and I'll do much worse. As I said, Olivia will be going home right now. She will not be going to work this weekend. You will not call her until Monday afternoon." Leaning closer, he fixed Tucker's tie. "If you fail to follow any of these requirements, I will be charging you."

Tucker snatched his tie. "Charging me? With what?"

"I'm sure I can think of something really good." Straightening himself up, he fixed his suit jacket. "Nice seeing you again inspector." Wrapping his arms around Olivia, he led her out of the building.

Fin chuckled looking back at Amaro. "That's why."

End flashback:

"Give him the deal." Barba ordered the detectives. Walking towards the door, he was stopped by Tucker's hand.

"That's it?" The inspector scoffed.

Shrugging him off he spared Fin one last look before walking out of the trailer. 'Angelous.'

'They moved to the front of the room.' The wolf looked over as Barba entered the alley. 'I assume I am the distraction?'

The alpha nodded. "They start shooting get the hell out of there. And don't let yourself get caught."

'Copy that.'
