Ch48
"Alright everyone good job today," Chrysaor said as he sheathed his sword. The campers he was training with sheathed their swords and went off to their activities.
"Well you are quite the swordsman," Quintus said. "Thank you for helping me."
"No problem," he said eyeing the man up and down. "You are quite good with your sword yourself."
Quintus smiled at him. "I know my way around it. Anyway I have other duties to attend to." The swordsman walked away leaving him alone.
"What do you think of him?" Chiron asked approaching him.
"He is hiding something," he said. "We should be careful with him."
"I know," Chiron muttered. "Thank you for being here, we could use a moral boost."
"No problem," he said looking at some campers pass by. "An invasion will come soon we better be prepared soon. Chiron there may be a traitor amongst us," he said softly.
Chiron's face darkened. "I have suspected it but I honestly can't stand the idea of another traitor. What proof do you have?"
"The way that Nico di Angelo just happened to leave and disappear," he said. "Someone here was grooming him and we need to find out who."
"Fine," Chiron sighed. "If you find anything out let me know. I honestly wonder if I can handle another betrayal."
"Trust me once we get the rats out it will get better," he said before heading to the stables I know you'll do well on this quest Percy, right now I'll help the camp in my own way.
He found Silena brushing the hair off a pegasi. "Hello nice day isn't it?" He asked.
Silena looked up at him and smiled. "Of course. Are you here to see Bucephalus?"
"Yes I am. How are you? Busy with the upcoming invasion we may face?" He asked.
The daughter of Aphrodite looked at him, he could see the caution in her eyes. "Y-Yeah. The pegasi are all just nervous. They'll be ready for the battle though."
"That's good," he said as he headed over to Bucephalus.
His pegasi was eating grass as he approached. "Lord how may I be of assistance?"
"Have you noticed anything with her?" He whispered as he brushed him.
"I occasionally hear her talk to herself in the stables. At first I thought it was just her talking to herself but sometimes she would come out with a tense expression." Bucephalus neighed as he brushed his hair.
"I see. Did she bring anything in or out?" He muttered
"None that I could see my lord," Bucephalus said. "Though I noticed last night when she did it she was clutching at something in her bosom, probably a necklace?"
He nodded. It wouldn't surprise him if the communication devise she used would be used. A spy would want to communicate with their base in an efficient and quick manner and would use something easily concealable.
"Thank you," he said as he continued to brush his pegasi. "Let me know of any new developments."
"Understood my lord," Bucephalus said as he finished up brushing him.
A he exited the stables he noticed Silena quickly give him a cautious look before returning to her tasks. She is hiding something I just need proof.
As he headed back to his cabin he ran into Lou Ellen of the newly made Hecate Cabin. "Uh hello Chris I was wondering if my cabin can join yours for capture the flag?" She asked.
"Sure no problem," he said. "We already have the Hermes and Athena cabins working with us."
"Great. Do you need me us to do anything special?" She asked with a smile.
"I guess maybe some defensive spells and traps near the flag," he said. "If you have any siblings good at combat that would be useful too."
"Will do," Lou said. "Thank you for allowing us on your team."
"No problem," he said with a smile. "How are you and your siblings doing here?"
"Oh we are ok," she sighed. "I mean we are the only minor god who has a cabin so we are still new and getting used to everyone." He noticed her avoid his gaze, he knew that a lot of the other didn't think highly of the Hecate Cabin due to their mom working with Kronos.
"Don't worry they'll come around," he said. "Do you think you'll have other campers coming soon?"
Ellen's face darkened, "I don't know. A lot did join us but some still follow the other side."
"Family is a complicated thing," he said. "Don't worry I'm sure things will work out for you guys. Also, if anyone gives you any trouble me and Percy will stand by your cabin."
He was always cautious around magic users since Circe tried turning him into a pig but he knew it was what Percy would do and that his father probably had some of his own plans with Hecate. Besides she seems like a nice kid. I shouldn't blame them all because of Circe.
Ellen's face lit up, "Thank you Chris that means a lot."
"No problem. See you around," he said.
He turned around and was greeted by Circe as he was about to head back to his camp. "Hello Chrysaor," she said folding her arms and looking him over with disdain.
"Circe what do you want?" He sighed.
Circe pursed her lips. "Nothing really. This camp isn't much I'd rather be on my island with my attendants."
"You mean where you enslaved countless men?" He asked. "To be honest you're lucky the gods didn't punish you harder."
Circe pouted. "You know this is no place for a lady like me."
"Really? I find it the perfect place," He said. "What is it you want?"
Circe sighed and looked him in the eyes with a calm gaze. "I want to make a deal."
"A deal?" He asked cautiously.
"Yes a deal," Circe said folding her arms. "I know my siblings aren't trusted but you and your brother have influence here. I wish for all children of Hecate to be more accepted here."
Folding his arms he looked Circe in the eyes. He could see sincerity in them but he wasn't one to be fooled too easily. "What do I get?"
He worked with Circe before, he knew how exchanges went and now that she was here she needed a base some level of support.
"I'm child of Hecate one of the best sorceresses by my mother Hecate. Whatever you need I can do it," Circe said folding her arms. "This is a war you could use all the help you can get."
Anything eh? "Can you make someone tell the truth?" He asked.
"Easily," Circe said rolling her eyes.
"Good to know," he said as he extended his hand. "Don't give me trouble and I'll make sure your siblings are ok."
Circe smiled and shook his hand.
That night he saw his son in his dreams. He was working on a ranch when a familiar girl came by. "Hello by chance has someone named Nico passed by her?" Nico di Angelo asked. Her face looking haggard.
Stupid girl run! He wanted to yell but he knew it was a dream.
Geryon turned to her and smiled that big creepy grin of his, eyeing Bianca as if she were a fat cow he was sizing up. "I don't know dear why don't you come along and see if he was her on my ranch," he said. "I've seen many demigods pass by lately, one in particular was a boy in a leather jacket with dark hair."
Bianca's eyes lit up. "Where is he? I think that might be my brother!"
Geryon motioned for her to follow him. "Follow me my dear."
Damn it. He woke up looking at the ceiling. Rubbing his eyes he stretched his body in his bed. She is strong but Geryon is one tricky bastard. A part of him felt guilty that his son turned out the way he did but he knew that his son didn't exactly care about anything but profit. It's my fault in a way, I wasn't the best father.
A part of him wanted to cry and beg him to stop. You reap what you sow.
He woke up the next morning feeling like shit. "Are you ok?" Reyna asked as they got breakfast together.
"I've been better," he sighed. "Just worried about everything."
"You mean the quest?" Reyna asked. "I'm sure Percy will do fine."
He sighed and nodded. It isn't just him I'm worried about.
The entire camp was tense for capture the flag, with the impeding invasion it was more like practice for war. "Alright everyone the Hecate Cabin along with half of the Hermes Cabin will defend our flag while Athena and the rest of Hermes will advance."
"What will you do?" Connor Stoll asked.
He grinned at the son of Hermes. "I'll be attacking and doing my own thing as well."
There were mutters of agreement. "Don't worry we will win this. Just try and remember to work together."
With the blare of the horn the match began. Half of the campers got into defensive positions while the other half began to advance. He quickly jogged around the river paying attention to his surroundings.
"There he is!" His head snapped to his side as he saw a group of guys from the Ares Cabin charge at him.
He sighed as he willed the river and slammed it into them. "Nice try guys," He said before jogging off.
Jogging through the trees he ran into another group of Ares campers. He drew his sword and quickly disarmed them and pushed them to the ground stabbing them in the leg to make sure they couldn't get up again.
Dodging another group of campers he headed towards the hill where the enemy flag was. "Sorry Chris but I can't let you get it easily," Beckendorf said drawing his sword with a grin.
"No problem," he said assuming a fighting stance.
The son of Hephaestus grinned as he hit a button in his hand. A beeping occurred throughout the area followed by a smoke screen.
"Not bad," he said as he carefully stepped on the ground.
Taking a deep he could hear Beckendorf's footsteps running at him. Using his ears he blocked Beckedorf's sword with his and the two engaged in combat in the smoke. Not bad not bad at all but still I've fought in worse.
He exchanged a few blows with him before knocking the blade out of his hand and landing a blow on his writs. Beckendorf screamed in pain as he stabbed him again sending him to the ground.
With that he quickly ran over to the flag and lifted it up from the ground and waved it in the air as the smoke cleared. Chiron's horn burst through the area signifying that the match was over.
"Charlie!" He heard Silena yell as she ran over to the son of Hephaestus.
"Hey I hope I didn't hit anything vital," he said as walked up to him.
"Nah but damn Chris you really are good," Beckendorf said as Silena bandaged him. Looking down at her he watched as she leaned over, he could see the metal of a necklace hidden but he couldn't make out the image.
"Thanks Silena," Beckendorf said as she helped him up.
"Anything for you Charlie," Silena said her face turning red.
"Not bad you did a good job," he said extending a hand.
Beckendorf shook it. "You too my man. You got some mad sword skills."
He laughed. "True me and Percy like to practice a lot."
"Well come by my forge if you ever need anything," Beckendorf said.
"Charlie lets go get something to eat," Silena said avoiding his gaze.
As soon as they finished getting everything cleaned up things continued as normally at camp. "Hey Chiron I need to discuss something with you," he said.
The centaur was watching Quintus train some campers. "What is it?"
After making sure no one was around listening he looked up at the centaur. "I'm going to catch the rat."
The centaur frowned. "Are you sure?"
"Most likely," he said as he watched Silena.
