Ch62

Percy was relaxing in his step father's car with Rachel Dare as they overlooked the sea. It's nice to relax for a while. It was a nice calm day in contrast to the various days of chaos that had been happening ever since summer. He was approaching sixteen soon and quickly he would have to deal with the endgame of the great prophecy.

"Percy what do you think about going to the Caribbean together?" Rachel asked.

He looked at her and smiled, "I'd like to go but with things going on I don't know if I can leave you."

Rachels nodded, "I understand. If you can come that would be great but I know you have a lot of things to do." She avoided his gaze, "Just promise me you will stay safe."

"I'll do my best," he said smiling at her.

Rachel looked at him her face slightly red, "You know with all of these things going on I've been thinking about the important things."

"The important things?" He asked his heart racing in his chest as Rachel leaned in closer.

Rachel smiled at him, "I've learned so much from you Percy. I've enjoyed our time together."

"Uh th-thanks," he said suddenly unable to find the words in his mouth. His heart raced in his chest as he stared into Rachel's eyes. Suddenly he felt like one of Apollo's big red cows.

"Hey boss," said a familiar voice as a pair of hooves landed on the hood of the car.

He turned around to see Blackjack while his brother Chrysaor was on his pegasi. "Hey Percy," His brother said with a small smile. "Sorry Rachel but I have to borrow my brother for a moment."

Rachel sighed but smiled at him, "Off to save the world Percy?"

He nodded, "Looks like it. Can you explain to my stepdad?"

"Of course," Rachel said as she kissed his cheek. "Now go save the world."

He smiled at her his face turning red as he got out of the car and onto Blackjack. "Be safe both of you!" Rachel called out.

"I'll bring him back in one piece," Chris said with grin as their pegasi took flight. As soon as they were far away from Rachel his brother turned to face him. "So how long have you two been seeing each other?"

"We aren't," he said quickly. "It's complicated."

Chris laughed, "Don't worry I understand. Rachel is a nice girl but anyway come one we have to get going."

"Where to now?" He asked as they flew over the water.

"Triton said he needs helping defeating sea monsters," Chris said as the water glistened beneath them. "He sent me an Iris message and Chiron agreed to it."

"How's he doing?" he asked. He hadn't heard much from Triton since summer began both had been busy fighting monsters and other threats.

"Tired from the looks of it," Chris said. "Our father's domain is facing more and more threats and both he and our father have been dealing with them."

"I see so what's the task this time?" he asked as they flew over the ocean.

"We are going to help Triton defeat some sea monsters," Chris said. "Chiron approved of it, our father also wants to talk to you so be prepared for that."

"Good to know," he said watching the ocean beneath them. I wonder if it's about the Great Prophecy? Probably is, hopefully his domain is alright.

They flew over the ocean before Chrysaor ordered his horse to stop fly around an area around the dark waves. "Alright lets go," his brother said.

"Be safe boss," Blackjack said in his head.

He patted his pegasi before he jumped into the water. He felt the cool water around him as he swam into the ocean. A peaceful sensation washed over him as he followed Chrysaor into the depths of the ocean.

As he descended into the water he could feel a cold sensation pass over him along with the faint smell of blood. "There they are," Chris said pointing in the distance.

Squinting his eyes he could see various mermen fending off a bunch of sea serpents. Triton was behind the mermen ordering them into formation. As they swam closer he noticed Triton seemed different, his eyes had bags underneath them his face appearing gaunter and fatigued than before.

"There you two are," Triton said once they swam up to him. "Come on lets make this quick we have to defeat these monsters."

"Got it how is father?" He asked as he and Chrysaor drew their swords.

Triton grimaced, "You'll see him later lets do this first."

He and Chrysaor followed Triton into the battle. I won't let these things into my father's kingdom. Triton struck a sea serpent right under the jaw, the monster roared in pain and tried to resist his older brother.

Gripping Riptide he quickly went for the eye plunging his sword into the monster. The sea serpent yelled in pain as it turned into golden powder. "Lets go we have more," Triton said as he blasted another sea serpent away.

He and Chrysaor quickly went to take out another large sea serpent. His brother's golden sword pierced right beneath the jaw of the monster Willing the water around him he jolted up to the creature and slashed it right in the neck with Riptide. The monster roared in pain as he repeatedly hacked and slashed at it until it disappeared into golden dust.

"Good job," Chris said as they swam to help Triton with a rather large sea serpent.

"There seems to be more of them than before," he said noticing all the wounded mermen.

"Yeah more monsters are down here too," Chris said as they went to assist Triton who was blasting the large sea serpent with his trident.

He bolted into the water and slashed off one of the monster's fins. The large monster moaned in pain as Triton blasted it with his trident right in the face incinerating it.

"Are you ok?" He asked watching his immortal brother rub his tired face.

"I'm alright lets go see our father now," Triton said turning around and swimming into the distance.

He and Chrysaor followed their brother toward a huge underwater palace complex. "Wow that's dad's home?" He asked staring in awe at the tall pillars and columns encrusted in gold and seashells.

Various mermen saluted them as they followed Triton into the main hall. "My mother is there be careful she isn't in a good mood with everything going on," Triton said softly as they entered the palace.

"God it," he said as butterflies flew in his stomach at the inside of the palace. There were various paintings pieces of work on the walls as they headed down towards a room.

Two guards opened the door for them and they found it fool of people and sea creatures. "Lord father mother I have returned," Triton said with a bow.

His dad looked up, Poseidon looked older than he last saw him and had white hair instead of his usual black. "D-Dad," he said taken by surprise.

The woman next to Poseidon tensed up her expression cold, "Excuse me I am needed elsewhere." She then swam away as Triton and Poseidon looked away awkwardly.

"Hello Percy that was my wife sorry but she has been stressed out," Poseidon said clearing his throat.

"I understand," he said softly. He didn't blame Triton's mom for not being warm with him, after all he was the son of an affair while she and Triton were his legitimate family.

"Father we took care of the monsters as you commanded," Triton said with a bow.

"Good," Poseidon said gripping his trident. "We will have many more to defeat, go and rest I will talk with your younger siblings."

"Yes father," Triton said bowing deeply before to both of them with a calm gaze. "Percy Chrysaor I look forward to when we can fight together on the battle again."

Triton produced two small rods and gave one to each of them. Looking over the rod he noticed a small button in the middle. Pressing the button the rod expanded until it turned into a large trident. "Wow cool!" He looked at the celestial bronze weapon in awe.

Triton smiled at him and Chrysaor. "I had them both made for you. Here take this if you need me."

To his surprise his oldest brother gave him a small conch shell. "What's this for?"

"I can split myself up. If you need me I can come and send a copy of myself to help you for a short time," Triton said softly as their father looked at them with a hint of approval in his gaze.

"Thanks," he said softly.

Looking at Triton he could faintly see his brother's features darkening his hair starting to turn gray at the edges.

"It's fine," Triton said before turning to Chrysaor. "Take care of him ok? Also we released your crew and forced them on the Styx to serve you."

"Good to know," Chrysaor said. "Don't worry I'll keep Percy safe."

Triton looked at them to his surprise pulled them both in for a hug. "Be safe and take care both of you," Triton said softly the emotion creeping into his voice. "Here take this." Their older brother held him a bag of what appeared to be seashells. "They contain the power of the sea."

He took them and held them tightly. "We won't let you down."

His eyes wettened as he hugged him back. Triton looked at them both and nodded before swimming off to do his tasks leaving them with their father.

Poseidon turned to him and Chrysaor. "Well I appreciate your help down here, my realm is currently under attack."

"Tell us where you need us," he said firmly. "We'll help anywhere."

Poseidon smiled at him, "I appreciate the offer but you need to be on the surface, both of you do." His father then turned to Chrysaor, "Keep him safe and help him when he needs it."

Chris nodded, "I will father."

Poseidon turned to him, "I believe it is time for you to learn about the Great Prophecy. You'll be turning sixteen soon, it is only right that."

"Sounds good. Are you sure you won't need us down here?" He asked.

Poseidon shook his head, "No. I must defend my realm. Be safe Percy I have great expectations for you. Lead your allies and show strength and benevolence when necessary."

He nodded, "I will father." I won't disappoint you.

"Now go," Poseidon said snapping his fingers.

A bubble enveloped him and Chrysaor and lifted them up. His vision blurred as the sea around them sped around quickly as they made their way through the water.

Triton found his mother resting in the throne room rubbing her head, "Mother are you alright?" he asked.

"I'm fine," she said tersely. "Just tired, very tired. All this business with Oceanus is a pain. The fool plans to overthrow us."

"Forgive me I should've sent a messenger to let you know I was bringing my half siblings," he said. He knew his mom tolerated his father having affairs, didn't mean she liked it but she tolerated his half siblings most of the time.

His mother sighed, "I could care less about them for now. Our realm is increasingly under attack and my patience with a lot of things is being tested.."

"I'll deal with them," He said firmly. "I'll will not let father down."

"I know you won't," his mother said with a small smile. "We'll bring glory to the realm I swear it."

The door behind them opened and his father entered. "Lord father," he said with a bow. You're looking worse and worse by the day.

"Get some rest," His father said gripping his trident tightly. "Oceanus's armies are moving quickly."

"Father rest I can deal with them," he said quickly.

His mother nodded, "Triton is more than capable of handling them. Dear please rest while you can."

"I cannot. The other Olympians are fighting Typhon I have to finish off Oceanus and if can help them," Poseidon said.

His mother frowned, "Dear at least rest a bit and have some dinner."

His father sighed, "Fine dear. But I have to go back to work right away."

"Father do you intend to help the other Olympians?" He asked. His mother exchanged a glance with him. They both knew that Olympian politics was its own animal and by his father not being there it could lead to all sorts of rumors.

"Maybe when this is done," Poseidon sighed his face appearing more aged. "My realm should be my priority, I have to defend it at all costs."

"Well dear just rest for bit and we will think of something," his mother said.

"I'll be in my chamber," his father said as he turned around and swam off.

As soon as their father was out of ear shot he turned to his mother, "Do you think he can do both? Oceanus is a tough opponent but to go up against Typhon right after that?"

His mother's face grimaced, "I don't know my dear. Hopefully we can work this out, our family's name is on the line."

They exchanged a knowing look, his mother was worried about the same thing he was deep down. If we don't help the other gods father could lose face but if we stay here Oceanus will tire us out.

He clenched his trident. He was his father's heir, this realm was as important to him as it was to his father yet deep down he knew that this might be a diversion.

His mother came over and placed a hand on his shoulder, "I know we are in a bind at the moment dear but trust in our family."

"I will mother," he said softly.

Percy was at the Big House his stomach turning as he looked at the other cabin heads. He had just read the Great Prophecy and now the mood in the room was somber.

"So that's it," he said softly looking at the somber faces. His brother was also in the room to give him some moral support but other than that everyone was at a loss of words.

We can't just stay here. Exchanging a glance with his brother he knew what he had to do. I have to lead them. His stomach felt as if a bunch of butterflies were trapped inside.

Taking a calm breath he looked at all the faces around the table. "We have to defend Olympus, I need the help of everyone."

Clarisse's posture stiffened, "If you want Ares's help tell Michael to give us the chariot."

Michael Yew glared at Clarisse, "No we won it fair and square!."

He sighed, looking over at Malcolm who shook his head. No one said anything, not the Stolls, or Beckendorf, and Drew Tanaka didn't care. Chiron stepped forward, "Clarisse dear the Apollo Cabin one fair and square."

Clarisse stood up, "Well fine if you want to be like that good luck fighting without Ares we are done being your punching bag."

"Come one I'm sure we can work something out," Beckendorf said but Clarisse ignored him and stormed out of the room.

Great another problem to deal with. "Well I lets end this meeting now and prepare for the battle," he said. "Malcolm lets speak in private."

The son of Athena nodded and stayed in the room as everyone but Chrysaor and Chiron stayed. "I can't believe they are letting that stupid chariot get between them," Malcolm said shaking his head.

"Fools indeed," Chris said folding his arms.

"Yeah I can't believe them but hopefully we can make them change their mind," he said. "Malcolm I'm going to make you my chief strategist, make the best defense plans that you can."

Malcolm nodded, "Got. You can count on us."

"Percy I know you will to well," Chiron said folding his arms. "The Fates work in mysterious ways, I trust that you will make the correct decisions."

"I-I'll do my best," he said.

Chiron smiled at him, "I know you will. Now go and prepare we have a lot of things to do."

"The enemy is strong but I've faced worse odds before," Chris said. "Don't worry the Spanish Armada was bigger than the English fleet but it ended up at the bottom of the ocean."

Malcolm nodded, "Exactly. We shouldn't let the enemy's size deter us. I'll use Daedalus's laptop to find anything interesting."

"Great lets do this," he said.

His brother returned to their cabin to clean it up while he helped Malcolm do cabin inspection. "I can't believe Clarisse is fighting over a chariot," he muttered as he watched the Apollo cabin curse the Ares cabin to speak in rhymes.

"Yeah Clarisse is really thick headed," Malcolm muttered as they walked into the Aphrodite Cabin.

"Hello boys time for inspection?" Drew asked as one of her sisters gave her a manicure.

"Yes we are," Malcolm said as he looked around and saw that it was pretty clean. "Good job you get a high score."

Drew smiled, "Glad to hear it hon. Silena did a good job."

He turned to Silena and noticed that she was sleeping in a bunk not far from the others. The daughter of Aphrodite's face was down and despite her makeup she still looked tired. "Hey Silena are you alright?" He asked.

Silena turned to him and smiled, "Hey Percy I'm alright."

Drew laughed, "Don't worry we punish her well for spying. She has to do all of the chores around here."

Silena flinched and hid from Drew's gaze. Malcolm frowned at Drew, "Don't be too hard on her we need all of the help we can get."

Drew rolled her eyes, "I know but we need to set an example. I don't want everyone thinking all children of Aphrodite are traitors."

"Well stop it now," he said firmly. "We need all of the help we can get and we should show the enemy that we can be merciful too." Silena looked at him and gave him a small smile.

Drew sighed, "Fine."

They left the Aphrodite Cabin and continued on with their inspection. "Poor Silena," Malcolm said. "Drew basically turned her siblings against her, I hear its pretty bad."

"I'll talk to Chiron about it," he said. "She should be given a fair chance by everyone."

Malcolm nodded as they entered the Hecate Cabin and were greeted by Ellen, "Hey guys come on in," she said.

The inside of the Hecate Cabin was full of strange magical items that were both cool and creepy at the same time. "Well it all looks good," he said as he looked at the cauldron in the middle.

"Great you guys pass too," Malcolm said.

Lou Ellen and her siblings smiled at them. "Great thanks guys," she said. "Oh don't worry about the battle we will do our best to fight and even try to persuade our other siblings to help us."

The daughter of Hecate produced a series of pamphlets in her hands. They read, "Defy the Titans and fight for Olympus, full pardon for all those who fight on our mother's side."

"Great good job," he said handing them back to them. "Lou Ellen I want you to be with me in battle. You and Malcolm here will both be my advisers."

Lou's eyes widened her siblings also looked astonished, "Really you want me as an adviser?"

He nodded, "Yeah your cabin has the most children of a minor god. This will be a chance to show the enemy we are merciful and willing to forgive." He then smiled at her, "Besides you guys have a bunch of cool magic, I don't understand it all but its cool."

Lou's face turned red, "Thank you. We won't let you down." Her siblings nodded in agreement. He knew that some campers still didn't trust the Hecate Cabin but he knew that those that were with them were trustworthy.

"Good well um I'll see you guys later," he said as he and Malcolm left the cabin.

It was getting dark but they both managed to finish their task, "Thanks Percy," Malcolm said as they headed back to the Big House. "Do you need anything else?"

He shook his head, "No. Just a heads up I'll be going somewhere in secret but I'll return right away I promise."

"Where too?" Malcolm asked.

"It's a private matter don't worry I'll come prepared for this," he said.

Malcolm smiled and nodded, "I understand. Be safe."

To his surprise the son of Athena hugged him so he returned the hug, "Don't worry I'll be back. We'll get through this together."

Malcolm looked up at him with fiery determination, "I know we will. Good luck with what you have to do. I'll go and make some preliminary plans with my siblings."

With that the two high fived each other and headed back to their cabins. He found Chris resting on his bed and sharpening his sword. "So are you really going to do it?"

He sighed, "Yeah Bianca di Angelo will be here soon."

"Good luck," Chris said looking up at him. "A word of advice focus on your humanity when you do it."

"Thanks," he said as he got his things ready. His heart pounded in his chest, he really was going to the River Styx. I need this though, I need to do everything I can to win. "When you were immortal what was it like?"

Chris looked up at him, "It was different. Things went by faster and it was harder to appreciate the small things that a mortal does."

"Good to know," he said. "Well then I guess I'll see you soon."

Chris got up and hugged him, "Good luck Percy. I'll do my best to help everyone while you are gone."

He hugged his brother back, "I'll be back I promise."

Chris smiled at him, "Better get going. The sooner you get it over the better."

He nodded and grabbed his backpack. Carefully scanning the area he headed into the woods. He only walked a few feet before Bianca appeared in front of him. "Hey Percy are you read?"

"Ready as I'll ever be," he said firmly.
