Hey everyone, it's me. Back with the newest update. First, a couple of things:

1. Thank you all so much for over 300 Favorites and Follows! I appreciate the love of how you you're enjoying the story. I promise, there's more surprises to come for this revision.

2. I asked a while back about whether we should give Ash a Harem in this story, and after reading a lot of your feedback, we have decided not to do it and give Ash 1 girl of OUR choice. Once we decide who it is, we don't wish to have people annoy us on changing the girl they want. So if you don't like our choice, you don't have to say anything and don't have to read anymore.

3. For those who are saddened of no harem, do not worry, because I am in the process of making another Pokémon story with one in it, so be on the look for it when it is posted.

That's all for now, I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 14: Brock's Breeder Debut

After defeating Lt. Surge and obtaining his third gym badge, Ash was now back at the Pokémon Center, resting in the main lobby. He had given Alpha, Videl, and Quake to Nurse Joy so they could rest up after the match as well.

"How do you feel now, Ash?" Brock asked, sitting down beside him.

"A little bit better," Ash answered.

"You were really on edge back at the Gym. Especially when Surge brought out his Raichu." Brock recalls.

Ash had his head down, just recalling the exact moment. "It's just... it made me think back to that exact moment."

"You wanna talk about it? Maybe it'll help." Brock offers.

Ash knew he did need some help, and who better to get it from than his older and wiser best friend? "Sure," Ash replied. "I don't mind at all."

"Ash, just because you see another Pikachu or Raichu doesn't mean they act the same as the one you had." Brock said.

"I know. But that doesn't make it easy. Just seeing it brings back bad memories." Ash admits.

"Well, do you remember what Lt. Surge said to you during your little episode?" Brock recalls.

Ash paused and remembered what he had said.

'You said you wanted to be a Pokemon Master? Well, what kind of Master gets stumped by one Raichu?!'

'This stuff doesn't just go away on its own. You're going to need to find your own way to deal with this.'

"I know I have to deal with this but how do I do that? This isn't exactly something easy." Ash asks.

"I know, but Surge said that you'd have to figure something out on your own." Brock said.

"Yeah but how do I deal with this? I mean I have no idea what to do." Ash said.

"I'm sorry. I know this is hard but you have to learn to look past this and try to move forward." Brock said.

"Look past it?!" Ash said in disbelief. "You mean I'd have to forget everything that happened to me?"

"Moving on doesn't mean you have to forget. It means healing. You're able to think back on that nightmare but not let it continue to traumatize you." Brock corrects.

Ash remained silent as he let Brock's words sink in. Reaching up and touching the scarred side of his face, Ash was lost in thought.

How does one look back on one of the worst days of their lives and manage to move on? What would it take for them to do that? And most importantly, how long would it take for them to realize that?

"You don't have to do it now, Ash," Brock said as he placed a hand on his shoulder. "It's just something for you to think about in case this ever happens again. I don't want to see you lose your mind and snap because of it, or develop an unhealthy hatred of the entire Pikachu race."

Ash sighed and snapped himself out of his thoughts. "This isn't going to be easy."

"No one said it would be easy," Brock said.

"But I guess you're right, Brock," Ash admitted. "I can't freeze up every time I battle a Pikachu."

"There you go. Take it one step at a time, and you'll be fine," Brock reassured.

"Well I guess in the meantime I'll use this time to cheer you on. Isn't your Breeder contest coming up soon?" Ash recalls.

"That's correct. Tomorrow is the big day for the event," Brock confirmed.

Ash asked, "Are you ready for this?"

"Ready as I'll ever be, but I'll need a good cheering section. Think you can handle the role?" Brock smirks.

"I think I can handle the job," Ash grinned.

"Good," Brock says, laughing. "I can't have a sad cheerleader."

"Cheerleader?! Why, you?" Ash playfully started to nudge Brock.

"That's more like it," Brock smiled, happy to see his friend feeling better.

Soon, Nurse Joy called Ash to the front desk, where his Pokémon were all there, healed up and ready to go.

"Buzz!" "Bulbasaur!" "Shrew!" Videl, Alpha, and Quake all leapt off of the table to meet with Ash.

"Hey guys. Glad to see you're all feeling better," Ash smiled and noticed that Quake was still wearing the dog tag that Surge had given them. "So you're really going to keep wearing that, huh?"

"Sandshrew Sand," Quake said, nodding. "You earned it."

"I'm truly amazed that you've managed to defeat Surge, even after his brutal handling of you in battle," Nurse Joy said.

"Well, he's not really as bad as most people make him out to be," Ash said, thinking about Surge's character as a whole. "I think most trainers just need to take him seriously and not lose focus on themselves."

He thought to himself, "I should know."

"Every Gym Leader has a different way of handling things," Nurse Joy said. "But the end result always makes the trainers better than they were before."

Ash opened his jacket to look at his three Gym Badges before smiling. "Yeah, I think you're right."

Maybe handling this issue would have to be handled the same way he'd been handling his gym battles. Ash just had to take it one step at a time and figure things out.

Putting those thoughts aside, Ash returned his Pokémon to their respective balls and held onto his incubator, which still contained the egg within it.

"Come on, little guy," Ash said. "Let's go enjoy a break from battles and watch some Breeders compete tomorrow."

Ash left with high spirits, eager to get a good night's rest and be prepared for Brock's big debut in the Breeder Competition.

The next day, the area by the harbor was bustling with breeders, Pokemon, and tons of stands for people to try and sell competitors and viewers their merchandise.

"Woah what's all this?" Misty asked.

"Hey what better place to exchange tips and knowledge about Pokemon than at a competition for Breeders?" Brock smiles.

"Step right up! Need some tips on how to care for your Pokémon?!"

"I got the best Pokémon food in town for all types!"

"Need to make your Pokemon's skin shine? I got the perfect products!"

"I think I'm going to like this place," Ash said with a smile. "Do you think there might be someone here who could teach me more about raising baby Pokémon?" he asked, while holding his incubator.

"Probably. It can be good to get another Breeder's Opinion from time to time." Brock said.

"Wow Brock, you seem to really be enjoying yourself. You don't seem nervous at all." Misty said, amazed.

"You must have gotten a pretty big confidence boost," Ash said.

"Partly, but I eventually realized that I just need to focus on me and my Pokémon. Once I realized that, everything else just disappeared," Brock explains.

"Hey, that's some pretty good advice to use," Misty said, liking it.

"So how does the competition work?" Ash asked Brock, curious about its functioning.

"Yeah, what do you need to do?" Misty asked, eager to know as well.

"Well first I have to register which Pokemon I'm using," explained Brock. "Afterwards, the first round is all about checking said Pokemon's conditions to see how well we breeders have raised and cared for our Pokemon. Then they have a series of tests to see the Pokemon's performance abilities, and if I manage to pass both of those, I move onto the battle rounds."

"So there are battles here, I should have known," Ash smiled.

"Yeah, since you're a former Gym Leader, I think you've got it in the bag," Misty agreed.

"Thanks guys. I really want to do well in my first Competition." Brock said happy for the support.

Moving past the booths, the gang soon arrived at the main building where the competition was going to take place.

In front, we see a familiar trainer with spiky black hair and an orange tracksuit.

"Alright, you're all set." The receptionist said.

"Alright, thanks sir," he said as he was handed a button to wear. That's when the doors opened up behind him and he heard a familiar voice from his past.

"I'll be right back, guys; this won't take long."

Running to the counter, Brock saw the figure turn revealing him to be Corey.

"Hey it's you. From Cerulean City." Brock recalls.

"Yeah that's me, Corey. Brock, right?" Corey asked, remembering his name.

"Yep." Brock nods.

"So you actually took my advice and now you're competing huh?" Corey guessed.

"That's right. And I sure didn't expect to see you doing the same," Brock said looking at his button number.

"What better way to make sure I'm taking the best care of my Pokemon?" Corey shrugs.

"Touché," Brock said with a little laugh. "So you're thinking of becoming a trainer and a breeder?"

"There's no rule that says I can't be both," Corey said.

"Fair enough," Brock nodded.

"Next in line, please," the receptionist called out.

"Well Brock, I'll see you out there," Corey said as Brock nodded.

"Yeah, and may the best Breeder win," Brock nodded as he held his hand out for Corey, who responded with a nod and grabbed his hand to shake it.

Soon it was time to begin, as Ash and Misty sat in front row of the audience they saw this event was much different than any Pokemon tournament they had seen.

There were several stands for multiple breeders to present their Pokemon, a small obstacle course, and a panel of three judges to observe it all.

"Hello, greetings, welcome one and all!" said an elderly man with a white beard and black sunglasses, wearing a black suit, accompanied by a Fearow and Rapidash. Unlike other Pokémon, the two of them had shining coats that gleamed under the afternoon sun. "Welcome to Vermilion City's first Pokémon Breeder Competition. I am your host and also the Chairman of the Pokémon Fan Club, based here in Vermilion City. My name is Mr. Preston Manson."

As the crowd went wild everyone was excited. "And right behind me are the eight competitors participating in this fine establishment," Mr. Manson said as the curtains opened, revealing Brock, Corey, and six other competitors.

"Wow, only eight?" Ash said, surprised.

"This is a lot smaller than I expected." Misty said.

There do not seem to be many breeders in town who are competing.

"Now then, for those who are new, I'll explain the rules of the competition. For the first round, our judges will observe each contestant's Pokémon, evaluating their grooming and having them perform a move."

To emphasize his point, special squares and columns were lined up for the breeders to have their Pokémon inspected.

"Now, let's go to our first contestant. Entry number one," Preston said, looking at the girl as the spotlight shone on her.

"Go, Poliwrath!" the girl exclaimed, tossing a Pokéball into the air as it opened up, revealing the blue tadpole Pokémon standing on top of its column.

"Whoa, a Poliwrath!" Misty said in amazement.

However, when the judges approached them, they weren't as impressed.

"Hmm, the pattern on your Poliwrath's fur is not as long as it should be. And its skin is more slippery than shiny," one of them said.

"Young lady how long ago did your Pokémon evolve?" The second judge asked.

"About a week ago." She answered.

"Hmm that means the vitamins and training you gave it when it was a Poliwhirl aren't as effective now that it's evolved." The judge noted.

The girl and Poliwrath stumbled. "I-I wasn't aware of something like that," she said, confused.

"When Pokémon evolves you need to take many things into account including what changes you need to make to its regimen." The judges said. After tallying her score she got a fifteen out of thirty.

"Yikes, those guys are tough," Brock cringed, looking at the scoreboard. He couldn't help but feel bad for that girl and her Poliwrath after seeing their low score.

The next two Breeders managed to receive their scores. One was a 19.7 and the other was a 20.4.

Next up, Corey Sorao from Gardenia Town!" The spotlight shone down on Corey.

Smiling, Corey pulled out a Pokéball. "Hitmonlee, come on out!" The Poké Ball opened up, revealing a humanoid Pokémon with an ovoid body. Its upper torso had almond-shaped eyes with black space around them, and it appeared to lack a nose and mouth. Primarily brown, it had cream-colored, segmented arms and legs. Each hand had three fingers, and each foot had three clawed toes. The soles of its feet and its ankles had circular, yellow pads."Wow, a Hitmonlee!" Ash said, amazed, quickly bringing his Pokédex out to scan it."Hitmonlee, the Kicking Pokémon. This nimble Pokémon launches lethal kicks from almost any position."

As the judges examined it, their responses were very positive.

"Amazing. You can tell that this Hitmonlee is getting plenty of exercise. Its leg muscles are so strong." One said.

"And not to mention its skin looks really shiny. What kind of vitamins do you put in its diet?"

"I make sure my Hitmonlee focuses on attack and defense, so I make sure to give it Protein and Iron," Corey explained.

"Very smart. Knowing just what your Pokemon needs is key to becoming a great breeder." The judges smile.

Tallying the points Corey ended up with a 26.9, the highest score so far.

"A 26.9?" Ash gasped in surprise.

"That's the highest anyone has gotten so far," Misty said as she and Ash looked at Brock with concern and nervousness written on their faces.

Needless to say, this score had shaken up the next team because his Raticate was so nervous it freaked out during the examination.

Sadly the poor guy walked out with a 13.2.

As Brock looked at the scores, the competition, and how the judges performed their evaluations, a hint of nervousness crept onto his face.

Soon it was his turn.

Making his way out, Brock presented his Geodude for the judges to view.

"Hmm..." The judges stayed silent as they looked at Geodude, making it feel nervous under the intensity of their stares.

"This Geodude…is very taken care of. Its rocky exterior is so strong." One judge said instantly, putting Brock at ease.

"Hmm, the normal Geodude is approximately 1 '4", yet this one seems to be around 3'4". One judge measured Geodude's height and length.

"I've raised this Geodude for quite some time. He's one of my closest Pokemon." Brock said.

"And it shows, you've also made sure to sand down the rough edges." One said rubbing the edges to show it was smooth.

"Every day, I coat Geodude with my homemade special wax." Brock said, taking out a jar to show them.

"Very impressive. It's not often we see homemade remedies. Excellent work."

As the judges tallied the score, Brock ended up with...a 24.7.

"That's a pretty decent score," Misty smiled.

"As long as that last Breeder doesn't score above 25 Brock has a chance." Ash said.

With Brock, he and his Geodude sighed with relief as they looked at their score. "Well, it doesn't beat Corey's score, but hopefully it qualifies us," he said.

"Geo," Geodude agreed with a nod.

As the last Breeder and her Clefable stepped forward everyone held their breath as the judges scored them.

In the end she received...a 23.5. A score that was under Brock's!!

"Yes!" Ash and Misty cheered.

Brock was off to a great start. If he and Geodude could keep this lead they would go onto the finals.

"And that wraps up the first round," Mr. Manson said as he clapped his hands, revealing the results of who would move onto the second round onscreen. "As you turn your gaze to the screen, these will be the next four contestants who will move onto round two."

On the screen, we see Corey, Brock, and two other people.

"To all of you who didn't advance, don't let this one defeat stop your love for Pokémon. A true breeder can learn from their failures and become better because of it. Remember that." Mr. Manson said, making the losers feel better about not advancing.

"With that said," he continued, "let us move on to Round 2, the Pokémon Obstacle Course!" The light shone down upon a large grassy field dotted with obstacles.

"An obstacle course, huh?" Ash said. "I wonder how it'll go."

First up, it's Corey with his Hitmonlee.

"Ready, Hitmonlee?" Corey asked.

"Lee," Hitmonlee nods in agreement.

As the whistle blew, Corey ran alongside Hitmonlee as it made its way through the course.

"Does that mean the trainer has to run alongside their Pokémon?" Misty asked.

"It's like a trust exercise," Ash explained. "The Pokemon does the course while the Breeder runs alongside to show it can keep up no matter the obstacle."

First, Corey's and Hitmonlee jumped up from a ramp and both grabbed onto a hanger, swinging them down across a stream of water and landing on the opposite side. As they maneuvered around some cones, the two of them crossed the finish line, causing the crowd to go nuts.

"They didn't even hesitate for a second," Ash said, amazed.

We can see that the timer has stopped at 20.3 seconds on the screen.

"What a start! Corey and Hitmonlee are off to an amazing start! How will the other three teams fare?" Mr. Manson asks.

The next contestant, along with his Nidorina, ran along the path, doing panel jumps, before Nidorina squeezed herself through a tube. "Come on, faster, Nidorina!" he cried. "We can beat that time limit!"

As it exited the tubes, they approached the swing. Leaping onto it, Nidorina let go too soon of the other, screamed and struggled to reach the other side.

As it exited the tubes, they approached the swing. Leaping onto it, Nidorina let go too soon on the other side and struggled to reach the other side.

"Come on, Nidorina," I said as it climbed up, and we continued running. Because of that pause, it took us 30.2 seconds to pass.

"Oh no! Montgomery and Nindorina did not meet the required time limit. Apparently, they encountered difficulties while navigating through the tubes."

The boy and his Pokémon groaned in disappointment.

Next up was the third-place Breeder with her Clefairy.

"Alright, Clefairy," she said. "It's time to put your best foot forward."

"Fairy." They used Clefairy's hopping skills to try and bounce their way through the course.

"Well, this is interesting," the MC said. "It appears Camilla is hoping for Clefairy's special Hoppin' ability to help navigate the course."

"You have to use your Pokémon's skills to their fullest potential," Manson said, impressed.

After passing through the tubes and swinging on the swings, Camilla and Clefairy faced the spinning hoops.

"Okay, Clefairy," Camilla said. "We've got to time this right."

Taking a stance, Clefairy leaped past the first two, but the last one hit Clefairy on its way down.

"Fairies?" she cringed as many of the members of the crowd gasped.

"Oh no, they couldn't time that last jump and ended up getting knocked back," the MC said.

"Hmm, that won't look good for them," Manson said, glancing at the timer.

After finally shaking it off, Clefairy and Camilla crossed the finish line, but their time was almost a minute slower than they had hoped.

"Camilla and her Clefairy finished their performance, but unfortunately, it was also over the required time limit."

"Come on, Brock," Misty said, seeing that he was the last one up.

Stepping up onto the platform, Brock stood beside Geodude. Taking a deep breath, he calmed himself down to focus on the track and plan out his route.

"Okay, Geodude," Brock says. "Don't rush this. Pace yourself and watch out for the water part."

"Geodude," said Geodude, nodding as he closed his eyes to focus and prepare to get things started.

Once the shot had been fired into the air, and the timer had begun, Brock and Geodude took off.

"Geo!" Spinning into a ball, Geodude rolls through the tube and past the cones.

"Look at Geodude go! Using an impressive rollout to move flawlessly past the cones like a well-oiled machine."

As they approached the water, Geodude did not slow down.

"Wait for it... now!" Brock called out as Geodude shot up and landed on the other side without even touching the water.

The crowd went 'ooh' and applauded at the surprise jump, receiving impressed looks from the judges, including Corey.

"If only they knew. I've had loads of practice thanks to training with you, Misty," Ash said, amazed.

Misty said equally impressed, "Brock knows how to avoid water better than anyone."

With the timer now entering the ten-second mark, Brock and Geodude now make their way towards the spinning hoops.

"Go through them one at a time," Brock advises. "Make sure you nail each one."

Taking his advice, Geodude leaped through each hoop before stopping and leaping through the next one.

"Geodude is going through each and every loop with no trouble whatsoever!"

"Home stretch, Geodude! Run as fast as you can!" Brock said as they raced across the finish line.

Looking up, I saw that the time was 24.3 seconds.

Manson turned to his panel, who looked to each other and then to Brock, each giving him a smile and a nod.

"Alright folks, our two Breeder contestants advancing to the final round are..." As everyone looked on, the scores were tallied and displayed on the screen.

On screen, we see Brock and Corey appear. Both men look surprised before glancing at each other.

"Well, it looks like you and I will be facing off. Not what I intended, but I'm looking forward to it." Corey said.

"Agreed," Brock said. "I don't plan to hold back at all."

After clearing away the podiums and stands, they used the wide area as a battlefield.

Corey and Brock stood on opposite sides of the field, facing each other.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, we go to our final round of the competition here in Vermilion City. Both trainers have shown great effort in making it this far, and have raised their Pokémon to their full potential. However, only one trainer will take home the Breeder Pin." Mr. Manson announced.

"Come on, Brock," Misty cheers.

"You've got this! You have way more battle experience than this guy!" Ash yelled.

"The battle between Corey and Brock will now begin. Each side will use only one Pokémon; there will be no time limit, and the match will be decided once either trainer's Pokémon is unable to continue fighting or has been knocked out." the referee announced.

"Alright Rhyhorn let's go!" Calling out a new Pokemon Corey released a rhino-like Pokemon with a body made entirely of rocks.

"Whoa, look at that," Ash gasped as he took out his Pokédex to study the new Pokémon.

"Rhyhorn is the Spikes Pokémon. Its body is covered in a tough armor, making its Tackle attack even more destructive."

"Corey has chosen a Rhyhorn to battle, now what will Brock use against it?" The announcer said.

"Go Paras!" Brock said, calling out his grass type.

"Paras." Paras said ready to fight.

"And Brock selects a Parasect. An interesting match-up we have right here. Both Pokémon have their advantages and disadvantages."

"Well this just got interesting." Corey grins eager for the challenge.

"Begin!" The ref declares.

"Rhyhorn, Tackle attack!" Corey said as Rhyhorn charges across the field towards Paras.

"Dodge it, and then use Energy Ball!" Brock shouted as Paras leapt up into the air, narrowly avoiding the collision. Paras opened his mouth and a green energy ball appeared before him, which he threw at the charging Rhyhorn.

"Use Rock Blast and counter it!" Corey said. Rhyhorn's horn glowed white and silver energy gathered in front of it, forming into a silver rock, which it fired at the Energy Ball. The two attacks collided, causing an explosion.

"Amazing! These two breeders are already showing just how amazing their Pokémon are!" Mr. Manson said.

"Rhyhorn, use Ice Beam!" A light blue ball formed in front of Rhyhorn's horn. Light blue beams were then released from the ball, and headed towards Paras.

"Paras Dig!" Burrowing underground Paras avoids the attack freezing the hole where it dug.

"Paras had dug underground, now Rhyhorn has no idea where it could be!" The MC said as Paras looked around with a confused face.

"Stay calm Rhyhorn!" Corey said when Paras burst out under and nailed Rhyhorn with an uppercut.

"And Paras lands a super effective hit on Rhyhorn!" the MC announced as Rhyhorn was knocked backward.

"We may be down but we're not out. Rhyhorn Bulldoze!" Slamming its foot down, Rhyhorn caused the ground to shake, knocking Paras off balance.

"R-R-Rhyhorn is shaking the entire building! I hope the debris doesn't cave us in! Everyone hang on to something!" the MC warned as everyone in the building felt the aftershocks and clung onto something for safety.

Misty quickly clung onto Ash, who in turn held her and his egg close to his chest, gripping them tightly to prevent them from slipping or falling.

"Now Take Down!" Corey said. With Paras still recovering from Bulldoze, Rhyhorn took this chance to charge and crash headfirst into Paras.

"Paras!" Paras flew backward and landed on all fours, cringing in pain.

"Paras, hang in there!" Brock said as Rhyhorn felt the recoil damage.

"Ooh that had to hurt! Rhyhorn's Take Down dealt some serious damage to Paras but also damaged itself." The MC said.

"Paras, try to heal yourself. Use Absorb!" Brock said.

Glowing green, Paras used this chance to absorb Rhyhorn's energy.

"Paras!" Paras released a red beam from its mushroom head towards Rhyhorn. Upon hitting, Rhyhorn roared as its body began to glow red, indicating that it was being drained of its energy and transferred into Paras.

"Don't let them suck you dry Rhyhorn! Rock Blast!" Cringing Rhyhorn fires a rock from the tip of his horn hitting Paras and stopping the attack.

"Paras stole energy from Rhyhorn to replenish its own. However, Rhyhorn stopped it with a super-effective Rock Blast, rendering the attack useless!" The announcer said

"I can't tell who's winning. Both of them are pulling out all the stops." Misty said.

"I know, but I just know Brock can make a difference in this battle, somehow," Ash said, confident that his friend would not lose.

On the battlefield, Brock narrowed his eyes seeing Paras try to shake off the previous attack.

'I can't afford to let Rhyhorn get close. I need to slow it down.' Brock thought. "Paras Stun Spore!"

Paras shook its mushrooms and an orange powder came out of them, as it flew and coated all over Rhyhorn's body, causing it to groan in paralysis.

"Rhyhorn!" Corey gasps.

"Now, Energy Ball!" With Rhyhorn paralyzed Paras creates a ball of green energy and hurls it at them.

"Rhyhorn, try to use Ice Beam!" Corey pointed, as Rhyhorn struggled to focus on creating a blue sphere, but cringed at the status effect it was under, allowing Energy Ball to land, causing an explosion.

"Oh no! Thanks to the paralysis Rhyhorn's reaction time has slowed down drastically!" The MC said.

"Hmm, impressive," Mr. Manson said, eyeing Brock.

"Rhyhorn get up! We're not done yet!" Corey yells as Rhyhorn fights through the pain and the paralysis.

"Paras, use Energy Ball, once more!" Brock said, taking the lead in this battle.

"Use Drill Run!" Spinning its horn like a drill, Rhyhorn pierced through the Energy Ball and raced toward Paras.

"What?!" Brock gasped as Paras looked shocked.

"A good Breeder always has one move saved in case he needs to get out of a tough spot." Corey smirks.

"Paras, dodge it quickly!" Brock said, hoping to avoid it.

As Drill Run charged in Paras leaped up but the bottom of his foot was grazed by the attack causing Paras to fall to the ground.

"Paras barely managed to avoid that devastating Drill Run attack, but not without a little damage." The MC said.

As Rhyhorn lands behind Paras, the paralysis makes it cringe while Paras slowly tries to get up.

Pausing both breeders could tell whoever managed to strike first would win this.

"This is it," Ash said, knowing the battle was about to end.

"Come on, Brock," Misty said, figuratively clasping her hands together.

"Rhyhorn, Take Down!" Corey said as Rhyhorn slowly gained speed and raced towards Paras.

"Paras, Energy Ball!" Charging up the green ball attack, Rhyhorn was closing in.

"Paras!" Hurling the ball just as Rhyhorn got close, causing an explosion and a cloud of smoke.

The announcer exclaimed, "Paras and Rhyhorn have unleashed their final attacks against each other, creating a huge explosion in the process! But who has emerged as the victor of this match?!"

The entire audience was on the edge of their seats, awaiting for the smoke to clear. Brock and Corey didn't take their eyes off the field, as they noticed the silhouettes of their Pokémon through the smoke.

Covered in bruises, Paras and Rhyhorn were panting heavily as they glared each other down.

Everyone in the arena held their breath wondering who would break first.

Slowly a smile appeared on Rhyhorn's face before it collapsed to the ground.

"Paras?" Paras said, surprised.

"R-Rhyhorn is unable to battle! Paras wins! The winner of the match is Brock of Pewter City!" The ref declares.

"And we have a winner! After an insane match, the winner of the Vermillion City Pokémon Breeder Competition is Brock!" The audience stood up to cheer for the boy and his Pokémon.

"Yes! He won!" Misty cheered.

"I told you he would win!" Ash grinned, pleased to see that Brock had emerged victorious.

Brock held up Paras, congratulating it for an excellent battle. "Good job, Paras. You and Geodude made me proud today." He said with a smile as the grass crab smiled, happy of the praise it was getting.

"Huh? Well what do you know?" Corey smiles softly, happy for him.

Soon, Brock, Geodude and Paras were standing in front of Mr. Manson as he approached him.

"Brock for your victory here today I am proud to present you with this." Mr. Manson said, holding out a box.

Inside was a golden medallion with the letters 'BP' engraved on the front.

"Congratulations, you and your Pokemon earned this." He smiles.

Reaching inside, Brock takes the medallion and holds it up to the crowd, causing everyone to applaud him.

Once the competition was over, Ash and Misty met up with Brock outside, who was feeding Geodude and Paras. "Eat up, guys," he said. "You both did a great job."

"Geo!/Par!" Geodude and Paras cried with smiles as they continued eating.

"So Brock, how's it feel to win your first Breeder Competition?" Ash asks.

"It feels good. Way different feeling than when I won gym battles." Brock smiles.

"Well we're happy that you won, you really worked for it." Misty said.

"Thanks guys, hope you don't mind if I keep competing as we travel around?" Brock asks.

"Not at all." Ash shook his head.

"Hey, Brock!" Looking over, they saw Corey waving out to him.

"Corey." Standing up Brock walked over to meet him.

"You and your Pokémon did pretty good for your debut. I really thought I had you but your Pokémon just wanted you to win more." Corey said.

"Oh thanks, you really did give us a run for our money. Rhyhorn and Hitmonlee were very well-trained," Brock said,

complimenting him and his team.

"Right back at ya. You and your Pokemon are off to a great start. Maybe we'll run into each other again on the road." Corey said.

"When we do my Pokemon and I will be even stronger." Brock assures.

"Likewise, best of luck to you." Corey said, holding his hand out as Brock shakes it, forming their new friendly rivalry.
