Chapter 5

The entire crowd was silent. This decision could eradicate any Argument of not making her an outcast by Viking Law and would change her life probably forever.

"What?" Hiccup nearly screeched. Of all the things he expected from Cami, this was one of the last.

"You heard me. I want to come with you on your Island." She explained further. "I thought about it on my way here and having a Dragon sounds totally awesome. So I want to come with you and train my own.". As always though, she could not uphold any serious tone. "Also, who knows what you two would do on such a gorgeous Island all by yourself, just two innocent teens, completely cut off from society."

Hiccup could not hide the shock in his face. He didn't know if he should turn her down or not. Having a Dragon could be considered the best and worst thing to ever happen in his life. Due to Toothless he finally had a friend and was free from all the expectation that came with being heir of Stoick, but it also came with even more disappointment from the tribe and his former father having him disowned. All this overwhelmed him so much he didn't even acknowledge her teasing, which turned Astrid's checks cherry red.

"If Cami is going so am I." A Person from the crowd exclaimed. The people split up to give her a straight path to the heir and intruders. Once she came close Cami recognized her as her best friend and greeted her formally since she last saw her before venturing with the others.

"Oh right. People this is Frida. Frida this is Hiccup, Astrid and Toothless.". Frida was a near opposite of Cami except in build. Practically everything a Viking searched for in a future bride even if she herself didn't like the Idea of being one. Frida was skilled in agriculture and other domestical skills and particularly liked sewing and stitching, as it could be a good way of expressing your creativity with different designs.

Even though most Tribes saw those qualities as the best for a woman to possess, the Bog-Burglars tried to go against these standards and didn't like Frida for holding them up within the tribe. But since her close friendship with the heir, she didn't get treated as bad as others of her predicament would be and if Cami left without her, Frida would go back to being the village outcast, nearly like Hiccup.

Hiccup began having thoughts about accepting their offer. As sweet as it sounded to have more people support the Idea of befriending Dragons, it could very well end badly and the supporters would be disowned and shamed like him.

"Think about it Hiccup, if we introduce more people to living with Dragons, maybe they would be accepted everywhere." Astrid pulled him out of his thoughts. "Let's give this a try. Besides. It's just two people, what could go wrong.". In a corner of her mind, Astrid thought about her parents. How she wished to see them again and explain why she had left. But while Berk still fought Dragons that would be impossible, she committed one of the highest treasons and would be imprisoned instantly after arrival.

"Okay." Hiccup said to Astrid. "You can come with us, but Toothless is already maxed out with two people, so you will have to use a boat and I warn you, we don't have much housing space left, so you will have to build you own houses with the help of our Dragons." He exclaimed loudly for everyone to hear.

Cami nearly jumped from joy. Her request had been a very bold one even for her so it being actually accepted was at least some form of destiny or godly intervention in her mind.

While packing some stuff from her home to take with, her mother confronted Cami about the crazy things that just transpired.

"Young girl. What is the real reason you want to go with those traitors?" She asked while watching her daughter sheathe her sword and attach it at the side of her belt.

Cami sighed. Of course mothers had to always see right through everything and instantly question every of your choices. "Look, have you seen what he can do. Hiccup just drove right in and took me of the ground before any of you even saw it coming. Now imagine what I could do if I have a Dragon of my own."

Her mother frowned. Although what Cami was saying seemed like the truth, there were still some ulterior motives behind her actions. But if she learned one thing over the years, if Cami didn't want her to know something she had her ways.

Thanks to Cami's speech, some people were actually ready to listen to Hiccup and a low amount even came to him to ask for more Info's about his past with Toothless. Although Hiccup had been extremely surprised by the attention of these people, he wouldn't turn down the opportunity.

What surprised him even more was, as time went on more and more people wanted to join in on this crazy Idea. Most of those people were on the younger side and Hiccup figured the older generations still though of Dragons as those mindless beasts they had more than decades to fight against. The only older people were mothers don't wanting their children to go out there alone for an unknown amount of time.

Since every time someone wanted to go with, they had to pack their stuff too, Hiccup and Astrid stayed until the day was nearly over and all people who wanted to go were ready. Since some of the people packed their weapons, blankets or food while Hiccup explained some things about him and Astrid, he had to answer some questions twice.

"Does Astrid also have a Dragon?" Frida asked.

"Yes, a Deadly Nadder to be precise."

"Why isn't it here."

"She was attacked by Cami, so still resting." Most people looked over to their heir and remembered her view of the Story and attacking one of Hiccups friends.

"What is the relationship between you two?" Came from the back of the ship. Naturally it had been Cami, smirking at seeing Hiccup and Astrid blush at the same time. She laid at the side of the boat leaning against the hull.

"We are just friends and you know that, so please just stop it." He quickly exclaimed. "Anyway, the sun is going down. Cami already knows the way, so she can guide you. Me and Astrid will get back to the Island to sleep in our house." He said out loud, so that everybody would hear him. "And I really need some good sleep." He added under his breath.

Hearing this speech both Toothless and Astrid looked up from their activities. Since most people directed their questions at Hiccup, Astrid sat next to Toothless and both dosed off into either daydreaming or straight up sleeping.

Hiccup saddled himself in and again helped Astrid on the Dragon completely ignoring Cami's teasing. The two sped off, shaking the boat in the process and leaving over the horizon just a few seconds after.

The boat already swam some Vika before they took off, so the ride back home had been somewhat shorter than to the Bog-Burglars. Most of the way, was very silent, both riders stuck in though and the Dragon not being able to be understood. Back at their house, Astrid went up the stairs to deposit her axe and check on Stormfly.

"And, how is she?" He asked after hearing her again coming down behind him.

"Better. She'll probably be able to fly in a few days. Do you have an idea what to do with the others?" She countered. They knew just how bad sleeping on the floor was, since they had to before building their beds.

"Not really." He answered. He finally turned around and she saw his forest-green eyes looking down with a sense of distress.

She saw that look many times before on him always after another beating of his dad before the village. Most people didn't even get farther than his general figure and certainly not up to the point of looking into his emotions before spattering out their obvious hate for him.

"Hiccup." She switched to a tone that immediately settled every Argument of responding to her "What is it?" She asked him, her tone weirdly showing said seriousness, but also being gentle and comforting to his position.

"I don't know what to do." He answered, promptly falling back onto a chair in a defeated way. "Everyone will expect me to be this 'Dragon Master', but I don't know what that even is or if I can get to that. I don't want to disappoint everyone again. I just- I don't know what is wrong with me." He swung his arms around, not knowing any better way of showing his emotional turmoil

"Nothing is wrong with you Hiccup. You are just confused and that scares you." She stood up and closed the gap between them. Hiccup still looked down at the floor, not meeting her strong gaze.

"How would you know." His head snapped up to look back into her face. What he said came off more as offensive, than how he meant it and Astrid's eyes glimmered with a bit of anger, not going unnoticed. "You are Astrid Hofferson, you are never scared." He said this time, making sure his tone matched the meaning.

"Wrong. Hiccup, I have been scared and the last time was because of you." She whispered comfortingly. "When you left, I too didn't know what to do. You have showed me so much before you left and I couldn't ever repay that.". Astrid surprised herself with that statement. The last person she ever opened up to was her Uncle Finn, who tragically died against a Dragon and lost his honor while fighting it.

Hiccup face clearly showed all the confusion he felt in the moment. Astrid had left out details, every time she came to the part of searching for him in the Cove and her search mission. Was that the reason, did Astrid especially leave out those parts because she wanted to hide how she felt. "You know you don't have to hide that from me." He said sarcastically.

"It's a habit I picked up some time ago, so it is gonna be hard to do that." She answered way more playful than the topic actually appeared. Vikings don't show emotions, so Astrid learned to do exactly that, but with Hiccup it felt like those Viking rules could completely be thrown away. For Hel sake, they stood directly next to a Dragon, without having it incapacitated or dead.

Hiccup clearly relaxed, now that the atmosphere not felt like drowning him in a storm of pressure and uncertainty. Something about Astrid's words always brought him back to the ground, thinking clearly. Although when thinking about it, since leaving he and Astrid had become very close. Normally having Astrid even talk to him made him flustered and seeing her, he couldn't bring himself to think of anything other than her, but now it seemed more casual at having her constantly around. He thought back to the question Cami asked on the boat just an hour beforehand.

What was their relationship?

Due to their close proximity to each other the past days, nobody could refute the fact that they grew as friends, but sometimes it felt like even more. They both admitted to loving each other multiple times now, but still it didn't seem like they were full on together.

All this thinking eventually shut off his brain until Astrid brought him back out of his state.

"Anyway. I'll go and get some sleep, and you probably should too. Tomorrow is gonna be a long day." She yawned in her speech coincidentally emphasizing the 'long'. "Night, Dragon Boy". Astrid joked, making a comment on how Hiccup expected to be seen as a Dragon Master by the Bog-Burglars.

"Night Milady." He answered as a way of countering her title for him.

After Toothless finally ended, completely emptying the basket of fish Hiccup got for him, both teens and Dragons got to bed, nearly instantly falling asleep. Most worries Hiccup had were completely drawn away by Astrid in that discussion. He knew, if any problems arose, Astrid would be there for him.

The next morning went mostly the same as the day before yesterday until around midday when Hiccup and Astrid saw the boat of Cami and her fellow tribespeople over the horizon. Hiccup, not wanting to wait even longer, flew over and pulled the boat with Toothless' strength.

"Oh right, I wanted to ask. What is up with this warmth?" Cami asked after stepping off the boat, now stranded on the shore.

"Honestly, I don't know." Hiccup answered while motioning the others to follow him. "It seems to just be on this Island. One Night I flew south, but it didn't get warmer. It seems like this heat is radiating off this Island, but as long as it isn't too hot and nothing bad is happening, I don't really care." He shrugged it off. There were still many things to be explored on this Island, the heat being one of them.

Since they build their house relatively high, the walk had been unexpectedly long. Most of the walk, people bombarded him with questions and when they ran out, they started questioning Astrid.

"Here we are." Hiccup finally said, when standing in front of the house he and Astrid build with their own hands and draconic help. His exclamation hadn't been needed though, because most people were awed by its scale that they already stared at it faomr before coming near.

"You really build this all by yourself." Frida asked with complete shock, understandably, since Hiccup and Astrid were still teenagers and on their own.

"It took us quite some time." Hiccup said embarrassed at the appreciation of their new visitors. "We actually finished it only three days ago." He explained.

"Okay, let's not talk around the main thing." Cami jumped in. Her eyes practically sparkled with enthusiasm. "When do we get our own Dragons?" She asked completely oblivious to Hiccups discomfort to that question.

He had feared for that question ever since, until now, the only Dragons Hiccup had encountered either were from the raids, or from the arena. Toothless was the only one that didn't try to attack him and of course Stormfly, but only after Astrid trained her. He didn't know how Dragons in the wild would behave towards them or if all were as friendly and cooperative as Toothless.

"Actually, we don't know of any Dragons on this Island, so we'll have to search on other ones for that. I think just north-east of here was a small Island with a few Dragons, we came across before settling here."

"Great. When do we get going?" Cami instantly responded. She didn't try one bit to hide how cool she thought it would be to fly on a Dragon like Hiccup had. Just hanging from one already felt cool enough for her, so what would it be if she sat more safely on top?

"That is another thing. I though it would be best, if we searched for the Dragons, since we have our own, while you build some houses for yourself." Hiccup awkwardly put his hand on his neck. Cami obviously liked adventures so she would be the hardest to persuade into this plan.

Surprisingly enough, Cami just shrugged. "Okay. Where can we build our houses?" She asked. Hiccup had expected her to give off way more of a fight, so it surprised him, that she actually accepted the Plan.

"Wherever you want. This whole Island seems inhabited by anyone except us so make yourself at home." He answered. With that thing out of the way, his makeshift plan, he made up basically on the spot this morning could work out way better. "But building some houses will take a while, so you could use your blankets and firs to sleep in our house while we search for some Dragons."

With that most people went back to the boat, grabbing their stuff and sprinting to get a place near the fireplace, even though sleeping outside could still be considered warmer than back at their homes.

Frida was nearly the only one left admiring the giant house they stood before. "How long will you be gone then." She asked after forcing her thoughts to come back at the important matters.

"Stormfly is still resting, so Astrid wants to go tomorrow morning. Depending on how the Dragon will react to us it can take about a day or longer than a few weeks, but regardless of what happens, we will come back after a week." He reassured her. Him and Astrid planned this for the entire morning. "Maybe you have some houses build by then." He added playfully, kind of Challenging them to do better than him since they were more people and some of them older and stronger.

With that she too went back to their vessel in search of her Basket while most already made the walk back again.

With the evening approaching, the Bog-Burglars had settled into the lone house and still ate their food when Hiccup spoke out loud.

"You have all visited this Island in hope of a future together with Dragons. Tomorrow Astrid and I will search for Dragons, so you can befriend them and learn the truth. They aren't the mindless beasts our ancestors had led us to believe. While we will be gone, you can do anything you want, but I advise you to build some houses of your own." He said, repeating the plan he said to Cami already.

"Aye." The crowd off women screamed in a chorus. Unfortunately for Hiccup, this did not mean they could be still this Night. The Bog-Burglars fell asleep relatively early, but falling asleep, they got even louder than awake with their snoring. Hiccup barely got an eye shut the entire Night and even Toothless had trouble getting a good sleep. He truly wondered how anyone could live like this every Night.

Instead of waking up the next morning both teens mostly sat in their bed, without much sleep and were already awake when the sun graced the world with its shine.

Trying not to wake the others before their departure, Hiccup and Astrid slid out of the house with their Dragons trudging behind.

They quickly gathered everything they needed for a few days in the wild, so basically nothing since they adapted pretty good the last few weeks. That meant they could even go at higher speed without as much leverage.

"Are you ready?" He asked but got an unexpected response.

"Yes."

Hiccup knew this voice wasn't Astrid. He never heard it before, but it still felt somewhat familiar. He searched around, but nothing was out of the ordinary. Even Toothless and Stormfly didn't seem agitated, as if they didn't hear anything.

"Is everything okay?" Astrid said after looking up from Stormfly and seeing him frantically turn around.

"I think I heard somebody." He answered still confused as to who it could be and why nobody except him had noticed.

"Who." She asked not knowing, Hiccup didn't know it either and tried to figure out the same question.

"I don't know, but I don't hear it anymore. Maybe I just got too little sleep last Night." Hiccup dismissed the voice. He was sure it really existed, but didn't want to pursue it. "Let's just go now"

With that, both Humans saddled their Dragons and took off, Hiccup still hearing that familiar but unknown voice from time to time.

Really fast this time. The Chapter was a bit shorter than the last, but the next will hopefully be even longer. Also some major plot points were set up for in this Chapter, so that is a thing and who could be that mysterious voice at the end. The only thing I'll say, is that we will see the next Chapter, so good wait untill then.

I also started to crosspost this story on AO3 for anyone who wants to read it there, but it is still the same story so reading it here is basically the same.

Again please review for any questions, errors or Ideas.
